You can play Spotify in an Audi through a built-in Spotify app on certain supported 2026 model-year vehicles, through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, or over Bluetooth if your Audi is equipped for it. Audio controls such as bass, balance and fader vary by model year, MMI system, equipment and market, so use the manual for your specific vehicle rather than assuming every Audi has the same menus.

Which Spotify connection should you use in your Audi?

First identify which connection your vehicle supports. A built-in app runs in the car’s infotainment system; CarPlay and Android Auto bring a phone’s apps into the MMI; Bluetooth streams audio from a paired phone. These are different routes, and not every Audi offers all three.

Route Where Spotify runs Phone required? What to check Main limitation
Native Spotify app In the vehicle’s infotainment system No smartphone tethering is required Supported model year, PPE or PPC platform where applicable, market and Audi Application Store availability; a Spotify account is required Only supported on certain newer vehicles and functions are restricted while driving
Apple CarPlay or Android Auto On the phone, with its interface shown in the MMI Yes Whether your Audi supports Audi smartphone interface and whether your phone and connection method are compatible Requires a compatible phone connection; wired and wireless availability differ by vehicle
Bluetooth audio On the phone, streamed to the vehicle Yes Bluetooth music streaming support and pairing instructions for your specific vehicle Provides audio streaming but not the full projected phone interface

Audi says smartphone-interface functions and app availability depend on model, equipment, software configuration and market. Bluetooth streaming is available on newer models, while some older vehicles may require the relevant option. The vehicle’s manual is the safest way to confirm support.

Choose the native app if your supported Audi has it and you want Spotify to run in the MMI without a connected phone. Choose CarPlay or Android Auto if you want the phone-based Spotify interface and your Audi supports projection. Bluetooth is the fallback when music streaming is supported but smartphone interface is unavailable or you prefer a simpler pairing process.

Does your 2026 Audi have the native Spotify app?

Audi announced that its native Spotify app began rolling out on October 21, 2026, through the Audi Application Store for supported model-year 2026 vehicles built on the PPE or PPC architectures. The announced list includes the A6 e-tron, Q6 e-tron, A5, Q5 and A6; Q7 and Q9 availability is tied to their respective market launches. That list is not a guarantee that every vehicle with one of those model names has the app: confirm local availability and your vehicle’s equipment.

The native app is installed in the infotainment system and does not require a connected smartphone for Spotify playback. You still need a Spotify account, and any subscription cost depends on your market and plan rather than being automatically included with the Audi. Audi lists Jam, DJ, real-time lyrics and music videos among the app’s features. Because the system is designed for safe use, some functions are restricted while driving, and Audi says sign-in and settings are unavailable on the center MMI while the vehicle is moving.

If your Audi is a 2026 model but Spotify is not shown in the Application Store, do not assume the installation failed. The vehicle may use a different platform, have different equipment, be in a market where the app has not launched, or not be included in the current support list. Use the VIN-specific manual and Audi’s current local information to verify availability.

When should you use CarPlay or Android Auto?

Use this route when your Audi supports smartphone interface and you want to access Spotify through your phone’s Apple CarPlay or Android Auto display. Audi’s smartphone interface brings one of those phone platforms into the MMI on supported vehicles. The connection may be wired or wireless depending on the particular car and setup; do not assume wireless support just because the interface is available.

Projection is useful when the built-in app is unavailable or when you want the phone’s familiar Spotify library and controls. It still depends on the phone, the phone platform, Audi equipment and the connection method. A vehicle can support smartphone interface without supporting every type of phone connection, so check the exact manual before purchasing accessories.

When is Bluetooth the right option?

Bluetooth is a straightforward option if your vehicle supports music streaming and you do not need the CarPlay or Android Auto interface. It sends phone audio to the Audi, but it is not the same as installing Spotify in the MMI. Pairing steps and available controls differ across models and generations.

Audi France notes that new models support Bluetooth music streaming while older models may require the option. That qualification matters for used vehicles: a phone may pair for calls even when the car does not support Bluetooth media streaming. Confirm that the manual identifies music or media streaming, not only hands-free telephone use.

How do you find the right instructions for your Audi?

Use Audi’s digital owner-manual portal to look up the manual that applies to your vehicle. Audi provides manuals for model-year 2008 and newer and recommends a VIN lookup for vehicle-specific information. This matters because menus, features and connection requirements can differ even between Audis with similar model names.

  1. Find your vehicle identification number (VIN), or select the model and model year if the portal offers that lookup.
  2. Open the applicable owner manual and look for sections on infotainment, Audi smartphone interface, Bluetooth, media or sound.
  3. Check whether the manual describes the native app, phone projection, Bluetooth streaming or only some of those options.
  4. Note any equipment or market qualification attached to the feature. An instruction for a higher audio system or another trim may not apply to your car.
  5. Follow the displayed menu labels in your own MMI. If a label or feature is absent, check the manual’s model and equipment qualifications before trying another route.

There is no single MMI path that can be given reliably for all Audi vehicles. The instructions below are general starting points; the exact wording and sequence depend on your vehicle. If the owner portal presents several manuals, use the one tied to your VIN rather than relying on a similarly named model.

How do you connect Spotify through the built-in app?

If the Spotify app is available in your Audi’s Application Store, use the MMI’s app-store and sign-in instructions for that vehicle. The app runs in the car, so this route does not require a phone connection for Spotify playback.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Park the vehicle and open the Audi Application Store in the infotainment system.
  2. Find Spotify and install it if it is available for your vehicle and market.
  3. Open Spotify and follow the on-screen sign-in instructions using your account.
  4. Complete sign-in and any account setup before driving. Audi says sign-in and settings are unavailable on the center MMI while the vehicle is moving.
  5. Choose music using the MMI controls when it is safe to do so. Audi lists Jam, DJ, real-time lyrics and music videos, but driving restrictions can limit which functions are usable on the move.

If Spotify is not listed, do not infer that a software menu is missing or that every vehicle of that model supports the app. Check the vehicle’s model year, platform, equipment and local-market availability in the manual or Audi’s current information for your market. The October 21, 2026 announcement covers a defined set of model-year 2026 vehicles; it does not make the app universal across all Audis.

How do you play Spotify through CarPlay or Android Auto?

Connect your phone using the method supported by your Audi, then open the phone-projection interface in the MMI and select Spotify. Some equipped vehicles may require a cable or adapter; the connector depends on the car and phone.

  1. Confirm in the manual that your Audi supports Audi smartphone interface and the phone platform you intend to use.
  2. For a wired setup, connect the phone to the vehicle’s specified USB port using a compatible cable or adapter. Verify the required connector and compatibility in both the vehicle manual and your phone’s documentation.
  3. For a wireless setup, use it only if the manual confirms that your vehicle supports it, then follow the MMI’s pairing prompts.
  4. Approve the requested phone permissions and prompts, then open Apple CarPlay or Android Auto in the MMI.
  5. Launch Spotify from the projected interface and start playback. Use the phone or vehicle controls as supported by your setup.

If the interface does not appear, check that you used the correct USB port, that the cable supports data rather than charging only, and that the phone accepts the connection prompt. A cable that fits physically may still be unsuitable for the vehicle or phone. If you are shopping for one, look for a compatible USB cable for Audi smartphone interface only after confirming the vehicle’s connector and the phone’s connector; there is no single cable specification that fits every Audi setup.

For a wireless setup, make sure the vehicle manual actually describes wireless smartphone interface. If it does not, use the specified wired port instead of assuming that a Bluetooth pairing will create CarPlay or Android Auto. Bluetooth pairing and phone projection are separate capabilities.

How do you pair Spotify over Bluetooth?

Pair the phone with the vehicle, then select Bluetooth as the audio source in the MMI and start Spotify on the phone. Audi’s Bluetooth guidance calls for Bluetooth to be enabled on both the car and phone, but the exact menu names and pairing flow depend on the vehicle.

  1. Enable Bluetooth on the phone and open the Audi’s phone or Bluetooth settings while parked.
  2. Start the MMI’s device search or pairing process and select the Audi on the phone, or follow the pairing order shown in the manual.
  3. Confirm any matching code or permission prompt on both screens.
  4. Allow media or audio access if the phone presents separate permissions for calls and music.
  5. Choose Bluetooth audio or the corresponding media source in the MMI, then play Spotify on the phone.

If calls pair but music does not play, confirm that the MMI source is Bluetooth audio rather than the phone function alone. Also check the phone’s selected playback output and the Audi’s media volume. If the Audi does not appear during discovery or refuses pairing, remove an obsolete pairing from both devices and repeat the vehicle-specific process. Older vehicles may not have Bluetooth music streaming even when they offer Bluetooth telephone pairing, so verify that distinction in the manual.

How do you change bass, balance and other audio settings?

Start an audio source, then open the sound controls using the menu path in your vehicle’s manual. Audi’s audio settings are not uniform, and an option may be absent if the vehicle’s system or equipment does not support it. Opening the sound menu with an active source can also make it easier to hear the effect of each change.

As one model-specific example, a third-party mirror of the 2025 Q7 manual describes the path SETTINGS > Sound and lists treble, bass, balance/fader, speed-dependent volume, subwoofer, surround level, focus and 3D effect. Treat this only as an example for that model and year, not as a universal Audi path or feature list.

What the controls generally adjust

  • Bass and treble: Adjust low- and high-frequency emphasis.
  • Balance and fader: Shift sound left or right, and toward the front or rear, where supported.
  • Speed-dependent volume: Adjusts playback volume in relation to vehicle speed when available.
  • Subwoofer: Changes the contribution of a dedicated low-frequency speaker when the installed audio system provides one.
  • Surround level, focus or 3D effect: Audio-system options that appear only on some configurations and may depend on the installed equipment.

Make one adjustment at a time while parked or when it is safe, and listen again at a comfortable volume. If an item in the manual’s example list does not appear in your MMI, your configuration may not include it; do not assume the setting is hidden under the same label in every generation. A setting that exists on a Q7 with one audio configuration may not appear on another Q7, a different model year or a different market configuration.

What should you check if Spotify or the sound controls do not work?

  • Spotify is missing from the MMI: Check whether your model year, infotainment platform, equipment and market support the native app. If not, use a supported phone route instead.
  • The native app asks for a phone: Recheck that you are using the actual Audi Application Store app and that the vehicle is on the supported model and platform list. The native app itself does not require smartphone tethering, but a phone-based route does.
  • CarPlay or Android Auto will not open: Verify smartphone-interface support, the phone’s compatibility, the correct USB port for a wired setup, and any prompts on the phone. Confirm the manual’s instructions before buying a cable or adapter.
  • The projection screen is available but Spotify is not shown: Confirm that Spotify is installed and available on the phone platform, then check the phone permissions and the projected interface’s app list.
  • The phone pairs but Spotify is silent: Select Bluetooth audio as the source, check the phone’s playback output, and confirm that music streaming is supported by the Audi.
  • Calls work but media does not: The vehicle may support hands-free calling without Bluetooth music streaming. Check the manual for the media-streaming option and use CarPlay or Android Auto if equipped.
  • A wired connection charges but does not project the phone: Check that the cable supports data, that you used the specified USB port and that the phone accepted the connection prompt. A physically fitting cable is not automatically compatible.
  • Sound settings are missing: Look up the manual by VIN and check the equipment qualification. Some controls in a manual for another trim, audio system or model year may not apply to your car.
  • Only some sound controls appear: Features such as subwoofer, surround, focus and 3D effect can depend on the installed audio system. Their absence does not necessarily indicate a fault.
  • Spotify account or settings controls are unavailable while moving: Audi restricts sign-in and settings on the center MMI while driving. Make those changes while parked, and observe the vehicle’s safety guidance.

Which route is best for your situation?

For a supported 2026 PPE or PPC Audi with Spotify in the Application Store, the native app is the only route in this comparison that runs without smartphone tethering. For an Audi with smartphone interface but no native app, CarPlay or Android Auto provides the projected phone experience. For an older or more simply equipped Audi, Bluetooth may be the available streaming method, provided the car supports Bluetooth music rather than calls only.

When comparing options, check four things in order: whether the vehicle supports the feature and has the necessary equipment; whether a smartphone is required; whether Spotify runs natively in the MMI or is projected from the phone; and whether the connection is wired, wireless or Bluetooth. Confirm all four against the model year, market, equipment and phone before changing settings or buying an accessory.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Spotify Premium account to use Spotify in an Audi?

Audi’s app announcement says a Spotify account is required, but it does not establish that a particular subscription tier is included with the vehicle. Subscription cost depends on the market and plan, so check Spotify’s terms for your region.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I sign in to Spotify on the Audi screen while driving?

No. Audi says sign-in and settings are unavailable on the center MMI while the vehicle is moving. Sign in while parked before setting off.

Are Spotify music videos available while driving?

Audi lists music videos as a feature of the native app, but says app features are subject to restrictions while driving. The announcement does not specify that every feature is available in every market or driving condition.

Does every 2026 Audi include the native Spotify app?

No. Audi’s October 21, 2026 announcement identifies supported model-year 2026 vehicles on PPE or PPC architectures, including the A6 e-tron, Q6 e-tron, A5, Q5 and A6, with Q7 and Q9 tied to their market launches. Confirm your vehicle’s equipment and local availability.

Can I use Spotify without connecting my phone?

Only when your Audi has the supported native Spotify app installed through the Audi Application Store. CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth audio all use a phone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is Bluetooth pairing the same as Apple CarPlay or Android Auto?

No. Bluetooth streams phone audio when music streaming is supported. CarPlay and Android Auto use Audi smartphone interface to project a phone platform into the MMI, and they may require a wired or supported wireless connection.

Why does my Audi pair for calls but not play Spotify?

Some vehicles support Bluetooth telephone functions without Bluetooth music streaming. Select Bluetooth audio as the MMI source and check the vehicle manual for media-streaming support; otherwise use a supported smartphone-interface route.

What cable should I buy for Audi smartphone interface?

Do not choose by connector shape alone. Check the vehicle manual and phone documentation for the required USB port, connector and data-capable cable or adapter. A compatible USB cable for Audi smartphone interface is vehicle- and phone-dependent.

Why can’t I find the bass or balance menu shown online?

Audi sound menus vary by model year, MMI system, equipment and market. Look up the manual by VIN. Controls such as subwoofer, surround, focus and 3D effect may appear only with certain audio configurations.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Where can I find the correct Audi instructions?

Audi’s digital owner-manual portal covers model-year 2008 and newer. Use the VIN lookup when possible, then consult the infotainment, smartphone-interface, Bluetooth, media and sound sections for your exact vehicle.

The Bottom Line

Start with your VIN-specific Audi manual, then choose the route your equipment actually supports: the native Spotify app on qualifying 2026 vehicles, CarPlay or Android Auto through Audi smartphone interface, or Bluetooth music streaming. Confirm the model year, market, MMI system, audio equipment and phone before assuming a menu, wireless connection or cable will work. Make sign-in and sound changes while parked, and treat online menu examples as model-specific rather than universal.
