To stop a Google AI subscription, open Gemini, go to Settings & help → Manage subscription, then use Google One’s Cancel membership control. Cancellation normally stops the next renewal while your benefits remain active until the current billing period ends. You can instead choose Change membership plan and select a lower plan when Google offers one. A refund is a separate request: contact the seller that charged you—Google, Google Play, or Apple—and follow that seller’s refund process. Most Google storage-plan purchases are non-refundable, although local law and limited country-specific exceptions can change the result.
What is the difference between canceling, downgrading and requesting a refund?
Canceling prevents another renewal, downgrading moves you to a cheaper available tier, and requesting a refund asks the original seller to reverse a charge that has already been made. They are separate actions, so canceling a plan does not automatically create a refund request.

The quickest route for a Google-billed AI plan starts in Gemini and finishes in Google One. Follow these steps while signed in to the Google Account that owns the subscription.

- Choose Manage subscription. Google opens the Google One membership settings associated with your account.
- Select Cancel membership.
- Review the cancellation information, continue through the confirmation screens and confirm that you want to cancel.
- Save the confirmation email or take a screenshot showing the plan’s end date.
On a computer, you can open Google One directly and use its settings page to reach the same Cancel membership control. If you have several Google Accounts, verify the profile picture and email address before confirming; canceling the wrong account will not stop the charge on the account that actually owns the plan.
How do I cancel Google One or a Google AI plan on a computer?
Google One’s membership settings contain the cancellation control for subscriptions billed directly by Google. Sign in at the Google One website, open your membership or plan settings, select Cancel membership, and complete the confirmation prompts.

If the page offers a pause or plan-change option instead of cancellation, read the resulting date and price carefully before accepting it; a plan change is not the same as ending the membership.
How do I downgrade instead of canceling?
Use Google One’s plan controls when you want to keep some storage or benefits at a lower cost. In Gemini, choose Settings & help → Manage subscription; in Google One, open the membership settings. Select Change membership plan, review the lower tiers shown for your account and confirm the plan you want.
What if no lower plan appears?

Google Accounts include 15 GB of free storage, shared across Gmail, Drive and Google Photos, according to Google’s 2026 product information. Google lists 5 TB of storage for Google AI Pro on its 2026 subscription page, but availability and included features can vary by country and plan.
How do I cancel a subscription purchased through the Apple App Store?
An App Store purchase must be managed through Apple’s subscription system, not canceled solely from Google One. Google’s iOS instructions point users to Membership plans → Manage plan → Cancel membership in the Google One app, while App Store billing and refund matters are handled by Apple.
- Open the Apple device’s subscription settings with the Apple Account used for the purchase.
- Find the Google subscription in the active-subscriptions list.
- Select the subscription, choose the cancellation option and confirm.
- Return to Google One or Gemini later to verify the paid-through date.
If the subscription does not appear in Apple’s list, check other Apple Accounts and your purchase receipt. A Google Account can be different from the Apple Account that supplied payment, so searching only by email address can miss the transaction.

How do I cancel a Google AI subscription billed through Google Play?
For a subscription purchased in an Android app or through Google Play, use Google Play’s subscription management screen while signed in to the Google Account that made the purchase. Select the Google AI or Google One subscription, choose the cancellation command and confirm.
The Google Play receipt identifies the seller, order number and transaction date. Keep it: Google Account Help directs Play Store purchasers to Google Play’s refund policies, and the order number is usually required when support investigates a charge.
Which cancellation route should I use?
The seller that processed the payment controls cancellation and refund handling. Use the channel shown on your receipt rather than assuming that the product name determines the route.

Google One’s Additional Terms of Service state that customers must contact the seller from which they purchased the subscription. A third-party seller is responsible for cancellation and refund issues for its transaction.
Will canceling remove Google AI and storage immediately?
Normally, no. Google One’s terms say: “If you cancel your subscription, you will retain access to Google One for the remainder of your current billing period, unless you are entitled to cancel with immediate effect or have other cancellation or withdrawal rights.” Your Google One and AI benefits therefore usually remain available until the paid-through date shown after cancellation.
Immediate termination can apply when a specific law or cancellation right requires it, or when a seller’s terms provide it. Do not assume that submitting a cancellation automatically produces a same-day loss of access; check the confirmation screen for the actual end date.
What happens to Google AI Pro features after the plan ends?
When an AI Pro plan ends, Google’s Gemini help says the account loses Pro-only Gemini access, expanded Google One storage, direct support and member benefits. Gemini features in Gmail and Docs and other included integrations also end. Any included YouTube Premium Lite benefit ends with the plan as well.
Export or save work that depends on those features before the end date. A lower plan may preserve storage while removing AI features, so compare the proposed plan’s inclusions rather than treating every downgrade as a like-for-like replacement.

What happens if my account is over its storage limit?
Dropping from a large plan can leave your account above its new quota. Google One help warns that Gmail may stop sending or receiving messages, Drive cannot upload or sync new files, and Google Photos cannot back up new photos or videos until storage use is reduced.
How to avoid an over-quota lockout
- Open Google One storage management and identify the services using the most space.
- Empty Gmail Spam and Trash, review large attachments and delete messages you no longer need.
- In Drive, remove large videos, installers, duplicate folders and old device backups, then empty Drive’s trash.
- In Google Photos, review large videos and duplicate images before deleting; empty Photos trash if you need the space released immediately.
- Wait for Google’s storage calculation to update, then confirm that usage is below the replacement plan’s capacity.
Deleting files is permanent after the relevant trash-retention period, so download anything you may need before removing it. If you cannot get under the new quota, keep a larger plan or move data to another storage service before the paid period ends.
How do I request a refund for Google AI or Google One?
First identify who charged you, then submit a refund request through that seller. Include the original seller, transaction date, order number and a concise reason for the request.
- Find the receipt in your email, Google Play order history or Apple purchase history.
- Record the exact product name, transaction date, amount, currency and order or transaction number.
- Open the official refund flow for that seller.
- Explain whether the charge was accidental, duplicated, unauthorized or otherwise covered by the seller’s policy, and state whether you have already canceled renewal.
- Save the case number and any confirmation. Do not submit duplicate requests through several channels unless support tells you to do so.
Google AI subscription pages state: “Cancel at any time. No refunds for partial billing periods, except as required by applicable law.” Google Account Help likewise says that in most countries or regions, Google storage-plan purchases are non-refundable, even when the customer cancels. Approval is therefore not guaranteed and depends on the seller’s policy, local law, purchase channel and circumstances.
Are Google One storage purchases refundable?
In most countries or regions, Google Account Help says Google storage-plan purchases are non-refundable. Canceling stops future renewals but generally does not reverse the current billing period or create a prorated credit.
There are exceptions where applicable law gives a withdrawal or refund right. Google documents a country-specific exception for Israel: eligible Google One members may cancel with immediate effect and request a prorated partial refund. Purchases made through Google Play or Apple remain subject to those sellers’ procedures.

Can I get a refund after canceling?
You can still submit a refund request after cancellation, because cancellation and refund are independent. Cancellation only addresses future renewals; the seller must separately decide whether to reverse the existing payment.

Submit the request promptly, identify the original payment channel and explain the circumstances. If you subscribed through Apple or Google Play, contacting Google directly may delay the case because Google One’s terms place responsibility with the seller that processed the purchase.

The most common causes are being signed in to the wrong Google Account, viewing a plan billed by Apple or Google Play, or having an account role that cannot manage the membership.
- Compare the signed-in email with the receipt and the profile shown in Gemini or Google One.
- Search your receipts for the seller and switch to that seller’s management page.
- Open Google One in a browser if the mobile app does not show the control.
- Update the app, sign out and back in, or try a private browser window to rule out a stale session.
- If a family manager controls the plan, ask that manager to make the change.
Do not treat deleting the Gemini app, removing a payment card or deleting files as cancellation. None of those actions reliably stops a subscription renewal.
How can I verify that cancellation or downgrade worked?
After confirming the change, check the membership page for a status such as canceled, scheduled to end or a new plan name. The page should display the date through which paid access remains available.
- Look for a confirmation email from the seller.
- Check the next-renewal date in the same account used for the subscription.
- Review your bank or card statement later for unexpected renewals.
- For a downgrade, confirm both the new storage quota and the effective date.
- For a refund, look for a separate approval or credit notice; a cancellation email is not a refund confirmation.
How do I choose between canceling and downgrading?
Cancel when you no longer need paid storage or Pro-only features. Downgrade when you still need additional storage or selected Google One benefits but can live without the higher tier.

Google’s 2026 product page says Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra are available in more than 140 countries and territories, but the exact plans and benefits shown to your account can depend on location. Use the plan screen for your country rather than relying on a list from another region.
What should I do before the paid period ends?
Use the remaining time to export important work, consume any benefits you are entitled to use, and reduce storage if you are moving to a smaller tier. Confirm that shared-family storage and device backups will still fit within the replacement quota.
- Download files that depend on Pro-only tools or integrations.
- Review family members’ storage if the plan is shared.
- Check Google Photos backup settings on phones and tablets.
- Move large Drive archives to local or alternative storage.
- Record the cancellation or downgrade end date in your calendar.
These steps do not accelerate a refund, but they prevent avoidable data and workflow problems when the plan changes.

For a Google-billed plan, cancel through Gemini’s Manage subscription link or Google One settings; choose Change membership plan if you want a lower tier. For Google Play and Apple purchases, manage the subscription with the seller shown on your receipt. Expect access to continue through the current billing period unless an immediate-cancellation right applies, and treat any refund as a separate request whose approval is governed by the seller and applicable law.

Cancellation does not itself erase your existing content. The risk is that an account above its new quota may lose the ability to send mail, upload or sync Drive files, or back up new Photos items until you reduce storage.
Can a family member cancel a shared Google One membership?
