To change Silo on Apple TV, start playback and press Play/Pause on the Siri Remote. The playback controls expose Subtitles, Languages, Style, and Audio choices; Apple TV 4K also provides Enhance Dialogue and Reduce Loud Sounds when the title and connected equipment support them. For picture quality, use the automatic best-supported format and verify that the television, HDMI cable, receiver, and Apple TV model can carry 4K and HDR. Defaults are set under Settings > Video and Audio. This guide covers the exact paths, the audio and subtitle tracks shown for Silo, Apple TV 4K limits, and fixes for missing options or a dim, non-4K picture.

How do I turn subtitles on for Silo?

Subtitles are enabled from the playback controls, not from the Apple TV home screen. You can also choose a language and change the subtitle design while the episode is playing.

  1. Open Silo in the Apple TV app and start the episode.
  2. Press the Play/Pause button on the Siri Remote to display the playback controls.
  3. Select the Subtitles button and switch subtitles on.
  4. Select Languages, then choose the subtitle language you want.
  5. Select Style to adjust the subtitle appearance, such as size, font, color, or background options offered by your tvOS version.

The choices shown are title-specific. Apple’s Silo listing includes English CC/SDH and a broad group of subtitle languages, but the exact list can differ by episode, country or region, and the Apple TV hardware in use.

How can I make subtitles appear automatically?

Set a default subtitle language and automatic-subtitle behavior in the Apple TV settings. These defaults affect supported programs; they do not create subtitle tracks that a particular episode does not provide.

Apple TV 4K 32GB Streaming Media Player (2017), Model A1842, Siri Remote, HDMI, HDR10, Dolby Vision, Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Black, MQD22LL/A (Renewed)
  • 4K High Dynamic Range (Dolby Vision and HDR10) for stunning picture quality
  • Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound
  • A10X Fusion chip for ultra-fast graphics and performance
  • Voice search by asking the Siri Remote
  1. Open Settings on Apple TV.
  2. Choose Video and Audio.
  3. In the Audio section, open Subtitle Language and select your preferred default.
  4. In Video and Audio, review Automatic Subtitles. Depending on the available controls, you can have subtitles appear for different languages, when the TV is muted, or after you skip back.

After changing a default, stop and restart playback if the current episode does not update immediately. A manually selected subtitle language in the player takes precedence for that viewing session.

What is the difference between subtitles, CC, and SDH on Silo?

Subtitles generally translate spoken dialogue. Closed captions (CC) and subtitles for the deaf or hard of hearing (SDH) can also identify sound effects, music, or speakers. Apple’s listing identifies English CC/SDH for Silo; choose that track when those additional cues are useful.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Subtitles: Usually dialogue translation, useful when the spoken language differs from your preferred language.
  • CC: Captions that can include non-dialogue audio and are intended to be switchable.
  • SDH: Captions that add contextual information such as a door closing, alarms, or an off-screen speaker.

Terminology and availability are controlled by the title provider. If a CC or SDH entry is absent from the Subtitles menu, Apple cannot supply it through a setting.

How do I change the audio language for Silo?

Choose a different spoken-language track from the playback Audio control. The Silo title page currently lists English original audio plus multiple dubbed tracks; the languages visible to you depend on your region and the episode’s catalog entry.

  1. Start the episode and press Play/Pause to show playback controls.
  2. Select Audio.
  3. Choose the language you want. If the title offers an audio-description version, it appears as a separate choice in this menu.

To set a preferred default for future viewing, open Settings > Video and Audio > Audio > Audio Language. The default is a preference, not a guarantee: Apple TV uses it only when the program provides a matching track.

How do audio descriptions work in Silo?

An audio-description (AD) track narrates important visual information, such as actions, settings, or on-screen text, during pauses in dialogue. Select the AD-labelled track in Playback controls > Audio; it is separate from ordinary dialogue in the same language.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Apple’s current Silo listing shows audio descriptions for English and many dubbed tracks. Because catalog metadata can change, check the episode’s description page if an AD option you expected is missing. The country or region, episode, and Apple TV model can all affect the choices displayed.

How do I make dialogue louder without making explosions louder?

On Apple TV 4K, use Enhance Dialogue to emphasize speech or Reduce Loud Sounds to narrow the difference between quiet dialogue and loud effects. These controls are offered during playback and are not available for every title or audio setup.

  1. Play Silo and press Play/Pause.
  2. Open Audio Options (the wording can vary slightly with tvOS).
  3. Choose Enhance Dialogue, then select Enhance or Enhance More when those levels are offered.
  4. If sudden volume changes are the main problem, choose Reduce Loud Sounds instead. This reduces dynamic range rather than selectively raising voices.

Apple says the available options depend on what is playing, the connected speakers or headphones, and the Apple TV model. If neither control appears, it is a compatibility or title limitation rather than a hidden volume setting. A receiver or soundbar may also apply its own night, voice, or dynamic-range mode; avoid stacking several processing modes until you know which one is helping.

Which audio formats and tracks does Apple list for Silo?

The listing accessed October 25, 2026 identifies English as the original audio and shows multiple dubbed languages. Track capabilities are not identical: many entries identify Dolby 5.1, AAC, Dolby Atmos, and audio descriptions, while some entries identify AAC without Atmos.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Listing detail What it means for playback
English original audio The source-language track for the series; select it from the Audio menu.
Dubbed languages Additional spoken-language tracks may be available, with the visible set varying by region and episode.
Dolby 5.1 Multichannel surround audio when the title, Apple TV, receiver, and speakers support it.
AAC A supported compressed audio format; an AAC label does not imply Dolby Atmos.
Dolby Atmos Appears only on tracks and equipment that support Atmos; some listed tracks do not include it.
Audio descriptions A separate narrated accessibility track where listed.

Do not infer Atmos from the Apple TV model alone. The track selected on the title page and the entire audio path determine the format that reaches your speakers.

Why is Silo not playing in 4K or HDR?

Apple TV can output a high-quality signal only when the show, Apple TV model, display, cable, and receiver path all support it. Apple lists Apple TV 4K output up to 2160p at 60 frames per second, with Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG. Apple also requires a 4K/HDR television and an HDMI cable for 4K/HDR streaming.

Apple TV 4K capabilities

Category Formats or limit listed by Apple
Maximum video output Up to 2160p (4K) at 60 fps
High-dynamic-range video Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG
Surround audio Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Plus 7.1
Object-based audio Dolby Atmos

These are device output capabilities, not a promise that every Silo episode is mastered in every format. The title page, your region, and your equipment determine the options Apple TV actually presents.

What settings should I use for the best picture?

For most systems, leave format selection on the automatic or best-supported choice in Settings > Video and Audio. Apple TV then negotiates a format with the connected display instead of forcing a mode the television or receiver cannot accept.

  1. Open Settings > Video and Audio.
  2. Keep the format on the automatic/best-supported option unless you are troubleshooting a known compatibility problem.
  3. Confirm that the television input used by Apple TV is enabled for 4K and HDR. Some displays label this input mode as enhanced, deep color, or a similar manufacturer-specific term.
  4. If Apple TV passes through a receiver or soundbar, verify that every HDMI device in the chain supports the desired 4K/HDR signal.
  5. Use a 4K/HDR-compatible HDMI cable. Apple specifically states that an HDMI cable is required for 4K/HDR streaming.
  6. Return to the Silo description page and check whether the episode lists the language, audio, or video feature you want.

If a display is SDR-only, Apple TV may still play the episode, but it cannot create genuine HDR. Similarly, an older Apple TV model or an HDMI receiver that cannot pass HDR can limit the negotiated output even when the television itself supports it.

Why does Silo look dim, washed out, or strangely colored?

A dim image is often a format or signal-path mismatch rather than a problem with the show. First identify whether the television is receiving SDR, HDR10, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, or HLG, then check the corresponding picture mode on the TV.

  • Check automatic output: In Settings > Video and Audio, restore the automatic/best-supported format if a forced format produced a dark or desaturated image.
  • Check the TV input: Enable the input’s enhanced 4K/HDR mode if the television requires it.
  • Check the HDMI path: Temporarily connect Apple TV directly to the TV to determine whether a receiver or soundbar is limiting the signal.
  • Check the active picture mode: Some televisions use separate calibration and brightness controls for SDR and HDR. Adjust the mode that is active, not only the SDR profile.
  • Check ambient-light features: Automatic brightness or energy-saving modes can make a correctly signaled HDR picture appear too dark.

Do not assume that the absence of an HDR badge means playback has failed. A particular episode, region, or device may offer only SDR, and Apple does not add HDR when the title does not provide it.

Why are subtitle, language, or Atmos choices missing?

Missing choices can be normal. Apple’s support guidance says that subtitles or language options may not be available for a particular TV program or film, and availability varies by program, country or region, and hardware.

Use this order of checks

  1. Open the Silo description page and read the listed audio, subtitle, CC/SDH, AD, and video features.
  2. Start playback and open both Subtitles and Audio; some accessibility tracks are separate entries rather than language variants.
  3. Confirm the Apple TV model. Enhance Dialogue and several 4K/HDR capabilities are specific to Apple TV 4K or to supported generations.
  4. Check the connected speakers, headphones, receiver, or soundbar. Audio options can disappear when the connected device cannot accept them.
  5. Check your country or region. Catalog rights can change the language and accessibility list even for the same series.
  6. Install available tvOS updates and restart Apple TV, then test the episode again.

Changing the system language will not manufacture a dubbed track or subtitle file. If the title page does not list an option, there is no Apple TV setting that can add it.

How should I compare two Apple TV setups for watching Silo?

Compare the complete playback chain, not just the television. The weaker component determines what you can select and what reaches your ears and eyes.

Comparison area Questions to ask Why it matters
Subtitle and accessibility coverage Are the required languages, English CC/SDH, and audio descriptions listed for the episode? Catalog availability is title- and region-dependent; hardware cannot add absent tracks.
Audio capability Is the path stereo, Dolby 5.1, Dolby Digital Plus 7.1, or Atmos? Enhance Dialogue, Reduce Loud Sounds, and Atmos output depend on the title and connected equipment.
Video capability Does the system support SDR only, or 4K with Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, or HLG? The Apple TV, display, HDMI cable, and any receiver must agree on the signal.
Compatibility Which Apple TV model is installed, and does every HDMI device pass the target format? A single older receiver, cable, or Apple TV can constrain the negotiated result.

A newer television paired with an incompatible receiver can perform worse than a modest television connected directly to Apple TV. Test the direct connection before replacing equipment.

What should I know about changing settings after an episode starts?

Playback selections apply immediately to the current viewing session. Defaults under Settings affect future programs only when the matching language or accessibility track exists.

  • Press Play/Pause whenever you need the controls; they hide automatically during playback.
  • Use the player’s Languages and Audio menus for a one-off change, such as switching to a dubbed track for one episode.
  • Use Settings > Video and Audio for recurring preferences, including default audio and subtitle language.
  • Recheck the selected track after switching episodes because individual episodes or regions can have different metadata.

Apple notes that menu labels and available controls can vary with tvOS version, Apple TV model, connected equipment, and the program being played. If a label differs slightly, look for the equivalent Subtitles, Audio, or Audio Options control in the playback overlay.

What is the quickest reliable setup for Silo?

Use automatic video output, select your preferred subtitle and audio tracks from the playback controls, and enable dialogue processing only if your equipment exposes it. Then verify the title page before assuming a missing language, Atmos, or HDR mode is a fault.

  1. Connect Apple TV 4K directly to a 4K/HDR television with a 4K/HDR-capable HDMI cable, or confirm that every receiver in the chain passes those signals.
  2. Set Settings > Video and Audio to the automatic/best-supported format.
  3. Set default Audio Language and Subtitle Language under Settings > Video and Audio > Audio.
  4. During Silo, use Subtitles for language and style, and Audio for dubbed or audio-description tracks.
  5. Open Audio Options and try Enhance Dialogue or Reduce Loud Sounds only when those controls are available and useful.
  6. If an expected option is absent, check the episode listing, region, Apple TV model, and connected audio equipment before changing more settings.

Apple’s current technical specifications and support guidance, together with the Silo listing accessed October 25, 2026, support these limits: Apple TV 4K can output up to 2160p/60 and the listed HDR and Dolby formats, but the program and the complete hardware chain decide which of those choices appear for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I set different subtitle styles for different people on one Apple TV?

Apple TV applies the selected subtitle style as a device-level preference, so changing it affects subsequent viewers on that Apple TV. If household members need different sizes or contrast, change the Style setting before playback rather than expecting a per-profile style.

Will Apple TV remember a dubbed language for every episode of Silo?

The Audio Language preference is a default, not a forced track. Apple TV uses it when the episode and region provide that language; otherwise it falls back to an available track, so confirm the selection when an episode’s catalog differs.

Do headphones support Enhance Dialogue and Reduce Loud Sounds?

Apple says availability depends on the connected speakers or headphones as well as the title and Apple TV model. Open Audio Options during playback; if the controls are not listed for your headphones, their absence is expected.

Does a faster internet connection guarantee 4K HDR for Silo?

No. Network capacity is only one condition. The episode must offer the format, and the Apple TV, television, HDMI cable, and any receiver must all support and successfully negotiate the 4K/HDR signal.
