Nintendo Music is Nintendo’s official soundtrack streaming service. Access is included with a Nintendo Switch Online membership and a Nintendo Account; you do not need to own a Switch console. You can listen in the mobile app, on a computer through the web player, and in compatible cars through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The app also allows downloads for offline listening.
The important limitation is licensing scope: Nintendo offers a selected, expanding catalog rather than every soundtrack it has released. Nintendo currently describes more than 250 hours from over 130 games, but titles and regional availability change. Nintendo has said game music is valuable intellectual property, yet it has not published a game-by-game explanation for why a particular soundtrack is or is not available on third-party services.

Nintendo Music is a Nintendo-operated service that grants members access to the soundtracks Nintendo has placed in its catalog. Your Nintendo Switch Online membership authorizes listening in the service; it does not give you a general license to copy, redistribute, remix, upload, or use Nintendo music in your own videos or products.
Nintendo President and Representative Director Shuntaro Furukawa said at the company’s 85th Annual General Meeting on June 27, 2025, “We consider our game music to be a valuable and important form of Nintendo IP.” He explained that Nintendo Music was created to deliver game music to a broad audience worldwide in a way unique to Nintendo, including playlists organized around games, characters, and battle music. That statement explains Nintendo’s product strategy, not the contract terms for every composer, recording, publisher, or territory.
#1 Best Overall
No public source cited here provides a universal rule for why one Nintendo soundtrack appears on Spotify, Apple Music, another service, or nowhere outside Nintendo Music. Do not assume that a missing album reflects a specific composer dispute, label restriction, or platform policy unless Nintendo or the relevant rights holder documents it.
Do I need Nintendo Switch Online or a Switch console?
You need an active Nintendo Switch Online membership and a Nintendo Account. You do not need to own or currently use a Nintendo Switch system.
Membership and account requirements
- Nintendo Switch Online is sold separately; Nintendo Music access is included at no additional charge with the membership under Nintendo’s launch description.
- A Nintendo Account is required to sign in and verify eligibility.
- A family membership can cover people in the same Nintendo Account family group, subject to Nintendo’s family-group rules.
- You also need internet access for sign-in, catalog browsing, and streaming. Downloaded app tracks can be played offline after they have been saved.
Because Nintendo sells memberships by region and may change terms, check the membership page for your country before relying on an older price or promotion. A launch-era “no additional cost” statement should not be read as a permanent standalone price guarantee.
Where can you use Nintendo Music?
Nintendo describes support for smartphones, tablets, computer browsers, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The mobile application is the route for offline downloads; the browser version is intended for listening on a computer.
Supported listening routes
| Route | What it is useful for | Offline downloads |
|---|---|---|
| Phone or tablet app | Full catalog access, playlists, recommendations, spoiler controls, and extended playback | Yes, in the app |
| Computer web player | Listening from a browser without installing a mobile app | Not stated by Nintendo’s service description; downloads are specifically described for app users |
| Apple CarPlay | Control compatible playback from a supported vehicle display | Use app downloads when you expect poor connectivity |
| Android Auto | Control compatible playback from a supported vehicle display | Use app downloads when you expect poor connectivity |
Hardware, operating-system, vehicle, and country compatibility can change. If a connection is important for a trip, sign in and test playback before leaving rather than assuming that every car or browser configuration is supported.
Which Nintendo games and soundtracks are available?
Nintendo’s current service description says the web version contains over 250 hours of music spanning more than 130 titles. Those figures are Nintendo’s current counts and can grow as new soundtracks are added. They are not a promise that every Nintendo-published game or every track from an included game is present.
The App Store listing describes coverage from NES through Nintendo Switch 2. Examples named by Nintendo include:
- Mario Kart World
- Pikmin 4
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
- Splatoon 3
- Kirby and the Forgotten Land
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Super Mario Odyssey
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Super Mario Galaxy
- Wii Sports
- Metroid Prime
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
- Donkey Kong Country
- Super Mario Bros.
These examples are not a permanent catalog guarantee. Nintendo says additional soundtracks will continue to be added, so a title’s presence, track list, or regional availability can change after this article is published.

How to check a specific game
- Open Nintendo Music on a supported phone or tablet, or open the web player on a computer.
- Sign in with the Nintendo Account linked to your Nintendo Switch Online membership.
- Search by game title, track name, or playlist. Searching the exact game name is more reliable than searching a character or composer.
- Open the game page and review the available albums, individual tracks, and playlists. Some games may have selected tracks rather than a complete score.
- Check the result while signed in from the country where you will listen. Nintendo’s catalog and service availability are country-specific.
Date-stamp any catalog check when you are documenting availability for a project, because Nintendo can add releases without changing the name of the service.
Why is a Nintendo soundtrack missing from streaming services?
The only supportable general answer is that availability depends on Nintendo’s release and licensing decisions for that recording, game, territory, and service. Nintendo has not published individual licenses or a universal legal explanation covering every absence from Spotify, Apple Music, or other third-party platforms.

A game soundtrack can involve several distinct rights questions: the underlying musical composition, a particular game recording, performers and musicians, soundtrack or album distribution, regional contracts, and the platform’s delivery terms. Without a statement from the rights holders, it is not accurate to identify one of those factors as the reason a specific album is unavailable.
Nintendo Music may therefore contain music that is not offered through a general-purpose streaming catalog, while still omitting other Nintendo material. Treat that pattern as a product and rights decision, not proof of a dispute. If you need a definitive explanation for a particular release, look for an announcement from Nintendo, the game’s publisher, composer, label, or collecting society; otherwise describe the title as “not listed in Nintendo Music” rather than claiming why.
Is Nintendo Music on Spotify or Apple Music?
Nintendo Music is Nintendo’s own service; the evidence here does not establish a complete, officially licensed Nintendo catalog on Spotify or Apple Music. Individual tracks or albums may have separate official releases, may differ by country, or may not be available at all. Search those services for the exact game and album, and verify that the uploader or label is an authorized rights holder before treating a result as official.
| Source | Authorization signal | Catalog completeness | Offline and device considerations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Music | Official Nintendo service accessed through Nintendo Switch Online | Selective, expanding catalog; Nintendo currently reports over 250 hours and more than 130 titles | App downloads; phone, tablet, browser, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto support described by Nintendo |
| Official release on another streaming service | Look for a Nintendo, publisher, label, or other clearly authorized account | Varies by game, album, and country; no universal Nintendo catalog is established here | Depends on that service’s subscription, app, and download rules |
| User upload or unverified channel | Authorization is not established merely because the audio is available | May be incomplete, edited, removed, or mislabeled | Availability and downloads can disappear; do not assume legal permission to reuse |
For a legal-listening decision, prioritize authorization, the exact game’s catalog coverage, your country, offline capability, device support, and the total subscription cost. “Found online” is not the same as “licensed for public distribution.”

Yes. Nintendo says app users can download tracks for offline playback. Download the music while signed in and connected, then test it in airplane mode or with mobile data and Wi-Fi disabled. Offline access is a listening feature inside the app, not an export of unprotected audio files.
Practical offline checklist
- Update the app before downloading a large playlist.
- Leave enough device storage for the selected tracks.
- Download over Wi-Fi if your mobile plan is limited.
- Open the downloaded playlist once before travel so the app can complete account verification.
- Keep the Nintendo Account and membership active; offline access should not be treated as permanent ownership of the recordings.
What features help you find and use the music?
Nintendo Music is organized for browsing as well as ordinary album playback. You can search by game, track, or playlist; browse screenshots; make personal playlists; and receive recommendations based on your Switch play history. Recommendations are a convenience, not evidence that every game in your play history has a soundtrack in the catalog.

The app includes spoiler hiding, which is useful when a track title, character name, or screenshot could reveal a story detail. Selected tracks also support extended playback for 5, 10, 15, 30, or 60 minutes. This is designed for long background listening without manually restarting a short loop; it does not mean every track offers every duration.
Where is Nintendo Music available?
Nintendo Support’s article updated June 2, 2026 lists 49 markets. Nintendo says more regions may be added, so confirm your country before buying a membership specifically for this service.

Availability is tied to Nintendo’s regional service terms. A membership or account created in one country should not be assumed to provide identical catalog access while you are traveling or using a different country storefront.
What should you do if a game or track does not appear?
- Confirm that your Nintendo Account is signed in to the account with Nintendo Switch Online access.
- Check the service’s country availability and the account’s region.
- Search alternate spellings, the full game title, and individual track names.
- Check both the game page and curated playlists; a track may be discoverable in one view before you recognize it in another.
- Update the app or refresh the browser session, then sign in again.
- If the title is still absent, record it as not currently listed. Do not infer a rights dispute from the absence.
Catalog growth is ongoing, but Nintendo has not promised a release schedule for a particular missing game. The most reliable answer is the current in-app or web catalog in the listener’s country.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can children in my Nintendo Account family use Nintendo Music?
Nintendo says its family membership allows everyone in the Nintendo Account family group to use Nintendo Music. Each person should sign in with the Nintendo Account included in that family group rather than sharing one person’s credentials.
Does Nintendo Music keep working if my Switch Online membership expires?
Access is tied to Nintendo Switch Online eligibility, so an expired membership should not be treated as continuing service access. Downloaded tracks are a feature of the app, not a perpetual purchase of the recordings.
Can I use Nintendo Music tracks in a YouTube video or podcast?
Listening access does not grant permission to synchronize, redistribute, or publicly perform the recordings. Obtain separate permission from the relevant rights holders before using Nintendo music in content or products.
How often does Nintendo add new Nintendo Music soundtracks?
Nintendo says new soundtracks will continue to be added, but the supplied service information does not provide a fixed release calendar. Check the app or web catalog for the current additions instead of relying on a promised date.
Do recommendations include every game I have played on Switch?
No guarantee is stated. Recommendations are based on Switch play history, but only music Nintendo has placed in the service’s available catalog can be recommended.
