Budget each Pokémon separately, then add the three bills: remaining power-ups, evolution, and a second Charged Attack. Stardust is shared by your account, ordinary Candy is tied to an evolutionary family, and Candy XL is required for high-level power-ups. The final authority is the price shown on that Pokémon’s Power Up and NEW ATTACK buttons, because level, form, Shadow or Lucky status, and rounding can change the total.
For an ordinary level-20 Pokémon, the published calculator example is 225,000 Stardust and 248 regular Candy to reach level 40. Reaching level 50 adds 250,000 Stardust and 296 Candy XL. Those figures exclude evolution and the second move, so a complete team can cost substantially more.

What costs should you add for each Battle League Pokémon?
Use this formula for every member of the team:
Complete build = power-up Stardust and Candy + evolution Candy (if needed) + second Charged Attack Stardust and Candy + any purification cost.
Power-ups are not flat-price purchases. Pokémon GO Help Center states that “Candy and Stardust costs for each Power-Up may increase as your Pokémon gets stronger.” Your starting level, target level, current CP, league cap, and status determine how many purchases remain. A calculator gives a planning estimate; the in-game quote for the individual Pokémon is the final check.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The second Charged Attack is a separate purchase. Documented ordinary tiers are:
| Second Charged Attack tier | Stardust | Ordinary Candy |
|---|---|---|
| Low | 10,000 | 25 |
| Standard | 50,000 | 50 |
| High | 75,000 | 75 |
| Highest | 100,000 | 100 |
These tiers depend on the Pokémon. Open its profile and tap NEW ATTACK to see the applicable price. The new slot unlocks an available attack at random; a Charged TM changes an existing move and does not buy the extra slot.
Evolution is another line item. Evolution Candy is family-specific, so a large supply for one species does not pay for another. If you are building an evolved form, include its evolution cost before spending Stardust on the final moveset.
How much do level 40 and level 50 power-ups cost?
Pokémon GO Hub’s published calculator gives an ordinary-Pokémon example of 225,000 Stardust and 248 regular Candy from level 20 to level 40. From level 40 to level 50, the same example adds 250,000 Stardust and 296 Candy XL. Therefore, level 20 to level 50 is 475,000 Stardust, 248 regular Candy, and 296 Candy XL before evolution or a second move.
Pokémon level and Trainer level are different. Official help says Trainers can begin collecting Candy XL at Trainer level 31; a Pokémon being level 40 does not mean your account must be Trainer level 40. Candy XL can come from several normal activities once you meet the Trainer-level requirement.

Worked budget examples (arithmetic, not species recommendations)
The following totals combine the published power-up example with documented second-move tiers. They are calculations, not the measured spending of an account and not a promise that every Pokémon starts at level 20 or qualifies for the cheapest move price.
| Build | Power-up scope | Second move | Total before evolution |
|---|---|---|---|
| One ordinary Pokémon to level 40 | 225,000 Stardust + 248 Candy | 10,000 Stardust + 25 Candy | 235,000 Stardust + 273 regular Candy |
| Three identical level-40 builds | Three times the row above | Three low-tier moves | 705,000 Stardust + 819 regular Candy |
| One ordinary Pokémon to level 50 | 475,000 Stardust + 248 regular Candy + 296 XL | 100,000 Stardust + 100 Candy | 575,000 Stardust + 348 regular Candy + 296 XL |
| Three identical level-50 builds | Three times the row above | Three highest-tier moves | 1,725,000 Stardust + 1,044 regular Candy + 888 XL |
Use your Pokémon’s actual current level and displayed move tier instead of copying these examples. A level-25 catch, an already powered-up trade, or a Pokémon that needs only a few upgrades can be far cheaper than the level-20 baseline; a lower-level target may also be enough to stay under a league CP cap.
How do Great League and Ultra League caps change the budget?
Current published formats use a 1,500 CP cap for Great League and a 2,500 CP cap for Ultra League. Build toward the cap and the role you need, not toward an arbitrary Pokémon level. A power-up that pushes a candidate over the format’s CP limit cannot be reversed.
- Open the candidate’s appraisal and profile, then record its current CP, level information, and evolution stage.
- Check the league’s CP limit and estimate the final CP after each available power-up.
- Stop at the last legal upgrade, even if the Pokémon could technically reach a higher level.
- Only then price the second move and evolution, because an over-cap investment may leave you with an unusable league candidate.
Team value is also comparative. The cheapest three Pokémon are not automatically the best team: each must cover a role alongside the other two, have usable attacks, and fit your shield and energy plan. Rankings or simulators can suggest candidates, but they cannot guarantee a win because alignment, shields, energy, and player decisions change matchups.
Should you build a Shadow, Purified, or Lucky Pokémon?
Status changes the budget and the battle properties, so do not treat these options as interchangeable discounts.

Shadow Pokémon
Pokémon GO Help Center says Shadow Pokémon require more Stardust and Candy for powering up and for unlocking a second Charged Attack than regular Pokémon. Pokémon GO Hub’s calculator models a 20% power-up increase, with rounding applied at each step. For the level-40-to-50 interval, it lists 360 Candy XL for Shadow versus 296 for an ordinary Pokémon.
Purified Pokémon
Purification consumes resources immediately, then lowers future costs and changes the Pokémon. It replaces Frustration with Return, while Frustration ordinarily cannot be removed with a TM outside specified events. Pokémon GO Hub models a 10% power-up reduction and 272 Candy XL from level 40 to 50 for a Purified Pokémon. Check the post-purification CP and moves before deciding whether the lower future bill improves your intended league build.
Lucky Pokémon
Lucky status primarily reduces Stardust for power-ups. It does not halve Candy or Candy XL, and a published Stardust guide distinguishes the Lucky power-up discount from the second-attack charge. Price the NEW ATTACK button separately instead of assuming the discount applies to every line item.
Is it cheaper to unlock the second move before evolving?
Sometimes, but only a Pokémon-by-Pokémon check can answer it. A published comparison lists Riolu’s second move at 10,000 Stardust and Lucario’s at 75,000, a 65,000-Stardust difference; the unlocked slot remains after evolution. That is a species-specific example, not a universal baby-stage rule.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Record the unevolved Pokémon’s NEW ATTACK price and evolution Candy requirement.
- Record the evolved form’s NEW ATTACK price, either from a matching specimen or the in-game profile when available.
- Compare both complete paths, including any power-ups you would perform before or after evolution.
- Unlock early only when the slot carries through evolution and the move is useful for the final form.
Evolution can also change CP enough to invalidate a Great or Ultra League plan. Confirm the evolved CP and legal league before committing Stardust.

How can you earn the resources without confusing income with cost?
Official help lists catching, hatching, transferring, research, and battling among ways to obtain Candy and Stardust. Candy stays within the evolutionary family, while Stardust is a shared account resource. Candy XL becomes available after the Trainer-level requirement and can come from several ordinary activities.
Pokémon GO Hub describes a conversion of 100 ordinary Candy into 1 Candy XL. Treat that as an expensive emergency option, not a default farming plan: converting 296 regular Candy would consume 29,600 ordinary Candy for the level-40-to-50 example.
Dated seasonal opportunities
Pokémon GO Hub’s Twilight Trails guide lists Master League and a Mega Halloween Cup rotation for October 27–November 3, 2026. It also describes some 4× Stardust win-reward periods, excluding end-of-set rewards, plus battle-themed Timed Research with Stardust and Rare Candy XL. These are temporary rotations, not permanent rates; verify the live in-game notice, local dates, and eligibility before counting them in a budget.
The built-in Explorer Gadget is a separate, phased feature. Pokémon GO describes it as available to eligible level-20-plus Trainers where enabled, with Poké Ball-only attempts and daily limits. It cannot run simultaneously with a paired physical accessory. Neither an accessory nor a power bank creates Stardust or Candy without successful gameplay catches.

- League: Confirm Great League’s 1,500 CP or Ultra League’s 2,500 CP cap and the Pokémon’s projected final CP.
- Current level: Price only the remaining upgrades from the Pokémon you actually own.
- Move bill: Tap NEW ATTACK and record the displayed Stardust and Candy tier.
- Evolution: Add family Candy and compare pre-evolution and post-evolution second-move prices.
- Status: Recalculate for Shadow, Purified, or Lucky treatment; do not apply an ordinary rate blindly.
- XL access: Confirm your Trainer level and Candy XL supply before planning level-40-plus upgrades.
- Team role: Check how the candidate covers weaknesses and complements the other two Pokémon.
- Trade risk: Official help says trading changes CP, HP, and other stats and shows the Stardust fee before confirmation. Do not casually trade an invested PvP candidate.
After this checklist, add the three individual totals. Keep a reserve for future move updates or a better candidate rather than spending the entire Stardust balance on a single impressive level.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my in-game power-up quote different from an online calculator?
Calculators use a starting level and status assumptions, while the game prices the specific Pokémon you selected. Current level, Shadow, Purified, Lucky treatment, and per-step rounding can all change the displayed amount. Use the calculator for planning and the profile button for the final number.
Can I turn ordinary Candy into Candy XL in Pokémon GO?
Pokémon GO Hub describes a 100-to-1 conversion. It is available as a costly exchange, so calculate the ordinary Candy you would consume before using it for a PvP project.
Does buying a second Charged Attack let me choose the move?
No. The purchase opens an available attack slot at random. A Charged TM rerolls an existing attack; it does not purchase the additional slot.
Are four-times Stardust Battle League rewards always active?
No. The four-times periods described for late October and early November 2026 are tied to specific seasonal events and exclude end-of-set rewards. Check the current event notice and dates in your region before relying on a bonus.
