As of October 30, 2026, Rockstar has not published an official GTA 6 download size, installed size, minimum free-space requirement, or minimum internet speed. The game is scheduled for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026, with pre-loading set to begin at local midnight on November 12. Even the physical box contains a download code rather than a game disc, so buyers will need an internet connection to get the game. PS5 lists offline play for the single-player experience, but that does not guarantee every feature or service will work offline.
How many GB is GTA 6?
There is no verified official number yet. In practical terms, do not buy a drive or delete games solely because you have seen the 210 GB claim. First check your own console’s available playable storage. Once the official listing displays its requirements, compare that information with your available space and leave room for any installation or update requirement the console reports.
Do you need internet to download or play GTA 6?
You will need internet to obtain the game, including if you buy the physical box. Rockstar says that the box contains a download code and no game disc, so it does not provide game files that can be installed from a disc without downloading. The platform listings identify GTA VI as a single-player experience and the US PlayStation listing says “Offline play enabled,” but platform notices also warn that some features may require an internet connection.

When can you download GTA 6 before launch?
Rockstar says pre-loading begins at local midnight on November 12, 2026. Its announced release date is November 19, 2026, so the pre-load window opens seven calendar days before launch. Pre-loading is useful because it lets buyers download ahead of release rather than starting the full transfer on launch day. - Check your platform and free space. Use the console’s storage settings, then compare available space with the official GTA VI listing once the pre-load becomes available.
- Connect the console to the internet. PS5 supports Wi-Fi and wired LAN; a wired connection is an option if convenient, not a guarantee of a particular speed.
- Open the official game listing or library entry on your console. Confirm that it is the correct platform version and review any storage or connectivity notices shown there.
- Start the pre-load when it becomes available. If you have a physical code-in-box copy, redeem its code and download the game; the box does not contain a game disc.
- Allow time for installation and updates. Do not assume that completing the data transfer means the console has completed every installation step or that all launch-day requirements are satisfied.
There is no sound factual download-time estimate until the verified download size is known. Transfer time depends on the amount of data, the speed your console actually achieves, network conditions, and other traffic on your connection. No. The announced physical box is code-in-box, not a disc copy: Rockstar’s support guidance states, “A disc will not be included in the box.” That means choosing a physical retail box does not avoid downloading the game. Plan for a working internet connection and enough console storage even if you prefer buying a boxed product. How should you free up storage before the official size is known?
Start by checking the space available on the console where you intend to play. On PS5, Sony identifies Settings > Storage as the place to check storage and manage or move data. Removing or moving games you no longer need may be enough; an accessory is not automatically necessary just because an unconfirmed size is being reported. Keep three questions separate when deciding whether you need more space:
- How much free playable storage do I have? Check the console itself, not just the capacity printed on an accessory or console box.
- How much space does the official listing say is required? Wait for the relevant platform’s published figure, and note whether it refers to the download or installation.

Sony’s supported M.2 specifications are accessory compatibility rules, not GTA VI requirements. Its guidance specifies a PCI-Express Gen4x4 M.2 NVMe SSD with Key M, effective heat dissipation, a capacity from 250 GB to 8 TB, and a recommended sequential read speed of 5,500 MB/s or faster. Sony warns that not every third-party drive that appears to match will necessarily be guaranteed. Do not confuse an M.2 drive installed in the console with an external USB drive. The first is an internal expansion option for playable PS5 games when compatible; the second is for storing PS5 games that must be moved back to playable storage before launch. Either may help manage a library, but neither figure tells you how much space GTA VI itself will require.
What storage options are available for Xbox Series X|S?
Microsoft documents a Seagate Storage Expansion Card compatible with both Xbox Series X and Series S. Microsoft describes it as maintaining the internal SSD’s peak performance, unlike an ordinary USB drive. There is no official GTA VI size from which to conclude that a specific card capacity is mandatory, or that GTA VI will or will not fit on a Series S with a given library. Check the console’s available storage and the Series S listing when the official requirement is displayed. A capacity printed on an expansion card is not the same as space left free on the console after other games and system data are present.
Does GTA 6 have PC or PS4 storage requirements?
The platform announcement covered PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Rockstar says the game will not run on PS4.
