“Unlock every dude” is not one task in How Many Dudes?. During a run, you recruit Dudes from the offers at the Dude Ranch. Separately, you can discover Dude Types in Collections, improve that collection with Stars and higher Tiers, and pursue the I’m Every Dude achievement. Those systems overlap, but recruiting a Dude for one run is not proof that you have permanently unlocked that type.
The safest route is to recruit the choices your current run offers, check Collections for undiscovered entries, and use the official Dudex to identify each type, its family, Ability and Relics. Do not rely on a character-by-character permanent-unlock list: the available pool changes, and the current Dudex includes Sports entries whose rollout and prerequisites are not fully documented for every platform.

What does “unlock every dude” mean?
Players usually mean one of four different outcomes. Decide which one you want before chasing a missing name, because the correct action differs in each case.

The developer describes each Dude Type as having baseline Stats, a unique Ability and a collection of Relics associated with that type. That makes the Dudex useful as a reference, but it does not state a separate permanent-unlock requirement for every entry.

Can you unlock more Dudes permanently?
There is no confirmed universal process in the published guidance that permanently adds every named Dude to every future recruitment pool. An unofficial roster FAQ says the original 42 types were available from the start of runs and that the recruitment pool varies; because that FAQ is unaffiliated and reflects the original roster, treat it as a description of early availability rather than a guarantee for every current entry.
The developer’s full-release guide instead focuses on recruitment during runs and collection progression. In practical terms, a Dude appearing in one run means you recruited that run’s offer. A Dude missing from that run may simply not have been selected for its pool, rather than being locked behind a permanent character quest.

- Recruitment offers are run-specific, so a complete named roster does not imply that all names can appear together.
- Collections and recruitment answer different questions: one records discovery and Stars, while the other supplies the team for a particular run.
- The original developer homepage describes 42 unique Dudes across six families. The current official Dudex also lists a Sports family, so the original 42 is best labeled as the original description, not an unqualified current total.
How do you recruit Dudes during a run?
Start a run and use the recruitment choices presented at the Dude Ranch. The game does not promise that every type will appear in one run, so the objective is to take the offers you need when they are shown and use later runs to look for types that did not enter the current pool.
- Begin a run. Proceed until the Dude Ranch presents recruitment choices. The exact offer sequence can vary, so do not expect a fixed order.
- Read the offered flyers and choices. Select a Dude that fits your team or one you have not yet discovered. If a name is unfamiliar, use the in-game clickable description before committing.
- Record what you found. After recruitment, check Collections to see whether the type is now listed as discovered. This separates a successful discovery from a temporary team choice.
- Repeat with new runs. A missing Dude may simply be absent from the current recruitment pool. Restarting or progressing another run gives you another set of offers; it does not establish that the type has a permanent unlock quest.
- Use the Dudex for identity, not for assumed requirements. Look up the Dude’s family, Ability and associated Relics there. If the entry gives no prerequisite, do not invent one from the name or from another character’s behavior.
Recruitment and discovery can happen together, but neither requires you to force every Tier 1 objective first. Collection Stars and recruitment offers are separate progression tracks.
How do Collections and the Dudex help find a missing Dude?
Collections is the in-game place to determine whether a type is undiscovered in your installation. The official Dudex is the reference for what the type is supposed to be and how its mechanics are described.

Use Collections to classify the problem
- Entry is visible and marked undiscovered: the game knows the type, but your collection has not recorded it yet. Continue recruiting from later Dude Ranch offers and follow any clickable explanation attached to the entry.
- Entry is already discovered: you may be looking for a different form of progress, such as a Star, Relic or Trinket requirement, rather than a character unlock.
- Entry is absent: compare the installed build with the current Dudex. An absent entry can reflect a different roster version or a platform rollout rather than a failed recruitment attempt.
Use the Dudex to avoid name and mechanic confusion
The Dudex documents Dude Types, families, Abilities and associated Relics. It also helps distinguish an ordinary Dude entry from a summoned unit. For example, Echo Dude and Skeledude appear among Dude Types, while Streaker Dudes are described in connection with the Sports Relic called Streakers, which causes groups of them to appear in battle. A directory row or a summon name should not automatically be counted as an independently recruitable character.
How do you finish the Dude collection?
Collection completion requires more than simply seeing names in the Dudex. The developer’s full-release guide says you will need to move up to Tier 2 and Tier 3 at some point, and it notes that some higher-Tier rewards can help fill lower-Tier requirements.
Understand the Tier rule
Do not assume that every Tier 1 Star must be completed before any Tier 2 or Tier 3 progress is worthwhile. The guide specifically says higher-Tier Silver and Gold Stars for Relics and Trinkets can apply retroactively to lower Tiers. That gives you flexibility: pursue the Tier whose Relic or Trinket objectives match the Dudes and equipment you are already using.
A practical collection route
- Open Collections and identify which Dude Types are undiscovered and which Stars are incomplete.
- During runs, recruit from the available Dude Ranch offers while building toward Relic and Trinket objectives.
- When a Tier 2 or Tier 3 objective is achievable, take it rather than delaying solely to clear every Tier 1 Star.
- Return to Collections after the run and check which Stars, Relics, Trinkets and Dude discoveries were credited.
- Use the Dudex to verify the family and Ability of any remaining type, then wait for that type to enter a later recruitment pool.
The published progression guidance does not provide a separate per-character formula such as “defeat boss X” or “collect Y copies” for every Dude. Keep the distinction between collection rewards and character discovery intact.
What does the I’m Every Dude achievement require?
The published achievement condition is to discover every Dude Type. It does not say that you must win a run with every Dude, complete every Ability challenge, or unlock a separate character through each boss.

To pursue it, use Collections as your checklist and mark a type only when the game records it as discovered. The achievement guide does not settle whether the newly listed Sports entries are already included in the counter on every platform build. If your Collections screen and achievement progress disagree, treat the installed version as the authority and check whether the Sports content has reached your platform before assuming a hidden prerequisite.
Which Sports Dudes are in the current Dudex?
The currently accessible official Dudex lists a Sports family with Basketball Dude, Broadcaster Dude, Coach Dude, Football Dude, Hockey Dude, Soccer Dude, Streaker Dude and Tennis Dude. Their listing establishes names and family context, but it does not establish individual prerequisites or confirm that every platform build had received the same rollout by October 29, 2026.

Because the source does not say that all eight entries are independently recruitable, a “Sports unlock table” with invented steps would be unreliable. Confirm that the update is installed on your platform, then use Collections and the Dudex together to see what your build actually supports.
Why is a Dude in the Dudex but missing from my game?
There are three likely explanations: the type did not appear in this run’s recruitment pool, your collection has not discovered it, or the Dudex is showing content that has not reached your platform build. These cases look similar but require different responses.
If the type is in Collections but not offered
Continue with another run. The recruitment pool varies, and no source establishes that one run can present every named type. Check the Dude Ranch offers rather than treating a skipped offer as a permanent lockout.

If the type is not in Collections
Check the installed version and platform against the current Dudex. The official reference identifies Sports names, but the available material does not provide a platform-by-platform rollout table for Steam, Android or iOS.
If a battle unit appears without a recruitable entry
Inspect the mechanic’s description. Streaker Dudes, for instance, can appear because the Streakers Relic summons them. Summoning a unit during combat is not the same as discovering an ordinary Dude Type through recruitment.

It describes the original developer homepage’s launch-era framing: 42 unique Dudes across six Dude Families. The same developer’s currently accessible Dudex separately lists Sports, so quoting 42 as the complete current roster would overstate what that number proves.
The homepage also advertises more than 850,000 team compositions. That is a developer-stated illustration of combinatorial variety, not a measured unlock-rate statistic and not evidence that a particular Dude requires a particular number of runs.
Which platforms and versions should you check?
Steam lists July 30, 2026 as the game’s release date, with Butterscotch Shenanigans as developer and publisher. The developer homepage links Steam, Google Play and the App Store, but the available official pages do not establish identical Sports availability or identical achievement counters across those platforms.

- Open Collections and note whether the missing entry exists there.
- Compare that result with the current official Dudex, especially for Sports entries.

Can every Dude appear in a single run?
The available guidance does not promise that. Recruitment offers come from a run-specific pool, so a complete collection normally requires checking multiple runs rather than waiting for one all-inclusive sequence.
Why did recruiting a Dude not make it appear as a permanent option?
Recruitment is a run-level action, while Collections records discovery separately. A successful recruit can add the type to your collection without proving that the same choice will be available in every future run.
Do Streaker Dudes count as normal recruits?
