Mori is a stationary, screen-free companion robot that uses a camera, microphones, touch-sensitive inputs, and light sensing to respond to people and changes in a room. Its interaction is voice-aware but nonverbal: it can take voice and environmental audio into account, yet it does not answer in spoken words. Instead, it uses movement, sound, light, and expressive features to create ambient companionship rather than act as a household automation hub or general-purpose chatbot.
What is Mori, and what is it designed to do?
OKA’s Mori, model ARTIFACT-01, is a home companion robot designed to provide ambient presence, nature-inspired sound and light, guided breathing, and expressive reactions. It is stationary and has no screen. Its purpose is not to take over chores or provide a spoken conversation, but to respond in small, nonverbal ways to the people and surroundings it senses.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThat distinction matters when deciding what “AI companion” means in this case. Mori is not described as a robot that follows voice commands to control appliances or answer general questions. Its interaction is closer to a responsive ambient object: it may orient toward someone entering, react to music, or stay quiet when an interruption would seem unwelcome. OKA founder and CEO Hua Wang framed the product’s goal in the October 2026 launch announcement as giving attention back to people: “What if technology didn’t ask for more of our attention, but gave some of it back to people?”
OKA calls Mori’s decision system Attentive Intelligence. Its named internal state, V.I.B.E., stands for Vitality, Interaction, Bonding, and Emotion. The company says that state changes with time and experience, which means the same kind of greeting can be more lively or subdued depending on context and interaction history. These are OKA’s terms for the product’s behavior, not a published technical specification of its AI architecture.

How does Mori sense what is happening around it?
Mori combines several kinds of input rather than relying on a single sensor. Its camera and microphones provide visual and audio context; touch-sensitive inputs in its fabric body register contact; and light sensing gives it information about ambient brightness. These inputs can help it notice a person, a sound, touch, or a change in the room.
| Input or feature | What it can contribute | What is established about Mori |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | Visual context, including the presence of people | OKA says Mori can learn what is familiar and recognize familiar people. The camera can be physically concealed when the head retracts. |
| Microphones | Voice and environmental audio context | OKA says people can interact by voice during Nature Time. Mori does not reply with spoken words. |
| Touch-sensitive body inputs | Physical contact as an interaction cue | Touch is part of Mori’s interaction model; placing both hands on its base starts guided breathing. |
| Light sensing | Ambient brightness | Light sensing is part of the documented sensing stack; a detailed account of the sensor’s range or measurement accuracy is not published. |
| Audio output, movement, and illumination | Nonverbal responses to sensed context | Mori can use sound, movement, illuminated eyes and cap, and posture to express a reaction. |
A useful way to understand the chain is: a sensor registers something, the system interprets it in context, and Mori either responds or remains still. A new sound could be relevant without being a spoken command; a touch could be a direct interaction; a person entering might prompt Mori to turn. The company describes the interpretation as weighing whether to respond, so sensing does not mean every detected event has to trigger an obvious reaction.

The sources reviewed do not disclose the exact camera or microphone specifications, the AI model architecture, training data, or quantitative recognition accuracy. It is therefore reasonable to describe what Mori is intended to notice and how it may respond, but not to promise that it will identify every person, understand every voice input, or react correctly in every room.
Does Mori talk or work like a voice assistant?
No. Mori is intentionally speech-free and does not answer in spoken words. Voice and environmental audio can still be inputs, so the most accurate description is voice-aware, nonverbal interaction, not a voice chatbot.
OKA says users can interact with Mori through touch and voice during Nature Time. Independent coverage describes microphones feeding Mori’s context models. Those facts support the idea that sound can help inform its behavior; they do not establish that Mori transcribes arbitrary speech, handles open-ended spoken questions, or provides conventional voice-assistant features.
Its output is expressive rather than verbal. Mori can move or turn, change its posture, illuminate its eyes or cap, and play sounds. Sometimes its most suitable response may be to remain quiet. This approach can make it feel present without demanding that a person look at a screen or keep up a conversation, but it also means it is not a substitute for a device whose main job is spoken answers or command execution.

How does Mori’s AI decide when and how to respond?
OKA describes Mori as looking around in a new room, learning what is familiar, noticing what is new or changing, and considering whether a response is appropriate. The company’s Attentive Intelligence label refers to that context-sensitive behavior. It has not published enough technical detail to explain the system as a specific algorithm or to independently verify the quality of its decisions.
V.I.B.E.—Vitality, Interaction, Bonding, and Emotion—is the company’s name for a state that changes with time and experience. In practical terms, OKA says Mori’s manner can vary rather than repeat one fixed reaction every time. Repeated interaction is also said to make each unit unique. That is a product description of personalization; it does not tell buyers precisely what information is stored, how long it is retained, or how large a change in behavior to expect.
For readers evaluating claims about AI, it helps to separate three layers:
- Input: the camera, microphones, touch-sensitive body, and light sensing provide signals about people and surroundings.
- Interpretation: Attentive Intelligence and V.I.B.E. are OKA’s descriptions of how context and interaction history inform a possible response.
- Output: movement, posture, light, and sound communicate a reaction without spoken dialogue.
This framing avoids treating Mori as either a passive speaker or an all-purpose intelligent assistant. It is designed for a narrower role: perceiving enough context to make ambient, nonverbal interaction feel responsive.
What can you do with Mori’s main interaction modes?
Mori’s documented experiences use the same combination of sensing and nonverbal output in different ways. They are wellbeing and ambient-design features; the reviewed sources do not report clinical outcomes or establish a medical effect.
Nature Time
Nature Time provides continuous nature-inspired soundscapes and soft light that shift through morning, afternoon, dusk, and night. OKA says people can interact with Mori by touch and voice during this experience. The description does not specify a voice-command vocabulary or guarantee that it will understand arbitrary phrases.

Guided breathing
To start a breathing session, place both hands on Mori’s base. OKA describes the session as intended to help a person reset. No clinical outcome statistic is published, so it should be understood as a guided experience rather than a demonstrated treatment.
Lamp mode
Double-tapping Mori’s head retracts the cap and reduces companion reactions, allowing it to function mainly as a soft lamp. In this retracted state, OKA says the camera is off and concealed. Digital Trends also reports that microphones can be disabled by double-tapping the head; because this is an additional reported privacy detail, check the current product instructions for the precise behavior of the interaction on your unit.
Ambient companionship
Outside a named mode, Mori may turn toward someone entering, react to music, or stay still when interruption seems unwelcome. These examples illustrate the intended style: the robot’s reaction is a subtle cue, not a promise of continuous tracking or a command response every time an event occurs.
Can Mori recognize family members and remember them?
OKA says Mori recognizes and remembers different people, responding differently to familiar faces and strangers. The company also says repeated interaction gradually makes each unit unique. This is a product claim about personalization, not an independently published accuracy benchmark.
The distinction between recognition and perfect identification is important. The reviewed sources do not provide a percentage accuracy, test conditions, supported group size, or evidence about performance across lighting conditions and camera angles. They also do not publish the model architecture or training data. Buyers should therefore treat familiar-person responses as an intended feature, not as a dependable security or identity-verification function.
Personalization may be appealing when a robot’s behavior feels less generic over time. It also raises reasonable questions about what data supports that adaptation and how it is handled. OKA says perception is processed on-device, and Digital Trends reports the company’s position that facial-feature data used to recognize familiar people remains on the device. That is more specific than a general promise of personalization, but the sources reviewed do not independently audit the implementation.

Is Mori always listening, and what privacy controls are documented?
OKA says Mori’s perception is processed on-device. Digital Trends reports the company’s position that raw images and audio are processed locally and discarded, while facial-feature data used for familiar-person recognition remains on the device. The camera can be physically concealed when the head retracts; that retracted state is also reported to turn the camera off. Digital Trends reports that microphones can be disabled by double-tapping the head.
These are documented company claims, not the result of an independent privacy audit or security test in the sources reviewed. On-device processing is useful information about where perception is said to happen, but by itself it does not answer every privacy question: it does not establish the exact data lifecycle, storage protections, software update practices, or whether every possible feature follows the same processing path.
For someone deciding whether to keep a camera- and microphone-equipped object in a shared room, the practical points are:
- Use the physical retracted-head state when you want the camera concealed and off, as described by OKA.
- Use the documented double-tap control to disable microphones if that behavior is supported by the current instructions for your unit.
- Consider who shares the room and whether everyone is comfortable with a device that uses visual and audio context.
- Consult current OKA documentation for the exact controls and data practices before relying on a privacy assumption.
Does Mori need Wi-Fi, and how long does its battery last?
According to OKA support, Mori can operate normally without an internet connection; internet access is needed for some app-management features. The product supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, but the supplied specifications do not define which features require each connection or provide a complete offline feature matrix.
OKA support says a full charge lasts roughly half an hour and recommends keeping Mori connected to its charger for long-term use. This is a short operating period, so Mori is better understood as a product normally used near power than as a portable robot for extended, untethered sessions.
| Specification | Published value | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum diameter | 20.91 cm | OKA product specification, 2026 |
| Maximum height | 29.8 cm | OKA product specification, 2026 |
| Weight | 1.5–2.0 kg | OKA product specification, 2026 |
| Battery capacity | 37.7 Wh | OKA product specification, 2026 |
| Charging time | Up to 2.5 hours to reach 80% charge | OKA product specification, 2026; this is not a stated time to reach a full charge |
| Wireless connectivity | Wi-Fi and Bluetooth | OKA product specification, 2026 |
| Approximate full-charge runtime | Roughly half an hour | OKA support; no test conditions or use pattern are stated |
The stated charging figure stops at 80%, while runtime is an approximate support figure without published test conditions. Those numbers should not be used to infer an exact full-charge time or to compare battery performance under a particular sound, lighting, or interaction mode.

How is Mori different from a mobile or conversational robot?
Mori’s defining trade-off is focus. It emphasizes stationary ambient companionship, nonverbal expression, and on-device perception claims rather than mobility, task execution, or spoken conversation. The comparison below describes categories of use, not a comparison with a particular competing product.
| Dimension | Mori’s documented approach | What a buyer should ask about another product |
|---|---|---|
| Conversation | Voice-aware input, but no spoken-word answers | Does it hold open-ended spoken conversations or only recognize commands? |
| Movement and tasks | Stationary ambient presence; movement and posture are expressive responses | Does it navigate rooms or perform physical tasks? |
| Sensing | Camera, microphones, touch-sensitive body inputs, and light sensing | Which sensors are present, and what do they actually control? |
| Processing | OKA says perception is processed on-device | Which features work locally, and which require cloud services? |
| Wellbeing experiences | Nature Time and guided breathing are documented | Are wellbeing benefits simply design intentions, or supported by measured outcomes? |
| Power and connectivity | Wi-Fi and Bluetooth; OKA support recommends charging for long-term use | What is the runtime under stated conditions, and what works offline? |
This comparison is useful because the word “robot” can imply very different things. A buyer seeking a mobile helper or a spoken assistant may find Mori’s nonverbal, stationary design too limited. Someone seeking an ambient object that responds without asking for constant attention may find that narrower role more relevant.

In October 2026, OKA listed a $649 Founder Edition and a $799 standard preorder price. These were preorder prices reported for that date, not a guarantee of current pricing, availability, shipping terms, or final retail conditions. The available information describes direct sales; it does not establish an Amazon listing, subscription requirement, warranty terms, or regional availability.
Before ordering, verify the current terms directly with OKA and assess whether the product fits your intended use. The factors below address the most consequential practical differences between a companion robot and a conventional smart speaker or lamp.
- Interaction expectations: Mori does not speak answers. Confirm that sound, movement, and light are the kind of response you want.
- Placement and power: Check the 29.8 cm maximum height and 20.91 cm maximum diameter against the surface where you plan to use it, and plan around the short support-stated runtime and charging recommendation.
- Network needs: Offline normal operation is documented by OKA support, while some app-management features need internet. Confirm whether the specific setup or management actions you want require connectivity.
- Privacy comfort: Review the physical camera-concealment behavior, microphone control, and current data disclosures rather than assuming on-device processing resolves every privacy concern.
- Personalization expectations: Familiar-person recognition is a company-described feature, but no accuracy benchmark is published in the reviewed sources.
- Wellbeing claims: Treat guided breathing and nature-inspired sound and light as product experiences, not as clinically validated outcomes.
The best fit is someone who wants quiet ambient interaction and is comfortable with a sensor-equipped object in the home. Mori is a poor match if the core requirement is reliable spoken answers, broad voice-command support, autonomous movement, or a verified therapeutic result.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Mori answer questions out loud?
No. Mori is designed without spoken-word replies, so it should not be chosen as a replacement for a conversational assistant. Its responses are expressed through movement, sound, light, and posture.
Can I use Mori without a phone app?
OKA support says Mori operates normally without internet, but some app-management features require a connection. The available information does not specify which setup or management tasks can be completed without the app.
Does Mori have a proven effect on stress or sleep?
The sources reviewed do not provide a clinical trial or published outcome statistic for stress, sleep, or another health measure. Its breathing and nature-inspired experiences are described as wellbeing-oriented design features, not established treatments.
Does Mori store recordings in the cloud?
OKA’s position, as reported by Digital Trends, is that raw images and audio are processed locally and discarded, while facial-feature data for recognition stays on the device. The reviewed sources do not include an independent audit that verifies those data-handling claims.
