Original Xbox games do not have Xbox achievements. The original console launched before the achievement system existed, so a missing achievement list for an original Xbox title is expected. What many players mean instead is an older Xbox 360 game running through backward compatibility. Selected Xbox 360 titles have achievement records that you can inspect on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, the Xbox app for Android or iOS, the Xbox app for Windows PC, and PC Game Bar. On a modern console, start the game, press the Xbox button, then open Game activity > Achievements. In an app, sign in with the profile that earned the achievements and open that profile’s achievement area; labels vary as Microsoft updates each app.
This distinction prevents the most common false diagnosis: backward compatibility can run a supported original Xbox game, but it cannot add an achievement list that never existed.

What does “original Xbox achievements” actually mean?
The phrase combines two different generations. An original Xbox game is a title released for Microsoft’s first Xbox console. Xbox’s official backward-compatibility documentation states that there are no Xbox achievements for those games because achievement functionality was not available on the original Xbox when it launched.
An Xbox 360 game is a later-generation title. Some Xbox 360 games are supported on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S through backward compatibility, and an achievement-enabled 360 title can retain its achievement record. Those are the “old achievements” most people are trying to find.

“There are no XBOX achievements for Original XBOX games because this functionality was not available on the Original XBOX at that time of its release.” — Xbox, official Xbox Backward Compatible Games page
Backward compatibility is selective. Xbox says modern consoles support selected Xbox 360 and original Xbox games, and that the exact features available can vary by game. Compatibility therefore answers whether a title can run; it does not change the generation of the title or create achievements for an original Xbox release.
How do I check an achievement-enabled game on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S?
Use the console Guide while the supported game is running. You need the modern console, the game installed or launched through backward compatibility, and the Xbox profile whose history you want to inspect.
1. Confirm the game generation
First decide whether the title is an original Xbox game or an Xbox 360 game. If it is an original Xbox release, there is no achievement list to open. If it is an Xbox 360 release, it may have achievements, provided that the specific title is among the backward-compatible games and was published with achievement support.
2. Sign in to the correct profile
Sign in on the Xbox One or Series X|S console with the profile that earned the achievements. The Guide displays the activity associated with the active profile, so using a family member’s account or a second profile can make a legitimate history appear to be missing.
3. Launch the game
Start the achievement-enabled Xbox 360 title through its backward-compatible version. You do not need to search the entire profile first; opening the game gives the Guide a direct route to that title’s activity.

5. Interpret an empty or absent list
If the game is an original Xbox title, stop troubleshooting: the absence of a list is normal. If it is an Xbox 360 title and the list is absent, check the game’s generation, compatibility status, and signed-in profile before treating the result as an account problem.
How can I see old Xbox achievements in the Xbox app?
Xbox identifies achievement-tracking surfaces in its Android and iOS app, the Xbox app for Windows PC, and PC Game Bar. The reliable method is the same across them: sign in with the profile that earned the achievements, open your profile or achievement area, and select the relevant game. Microsoft changes navigation labels and placement, so do not rely on one permanent button name.
Android and iOS
- Open the Xbox app on your Android phone or iPhone.
- Sign in with the same Xbox profile used on the console or when the achievements were earned.
- Open your profile, then look for the achievements area or the list of games with achievement progress.
- Select the Xbox 360 game you want to inspect.
If the app shows a profile summary rather than a dedicated achievements button, use the profile’s game or achievement history entry. The exact wording can differ between Android and iOS releases and can move after an app update.
Windows PC Xbox app
- Launch the Xbox app for Windows PC.
- Verify the account avatar or profile name before opening history.
- Open the profile or achievement section.
- Select the game to view its available achievements and progress.
This surface is useful when you want to browse several games rather than inspect the title currently running on a console. It still cannot display achievements for an original Xbox game, because no such list exists.
PC Game Bar
- Open PC Game Bar in Windows.
- Open the Xbox profile or social area shown in the overlay.
- Navigate to the achievement view and choose the game.
Game Bar is another documented Xbox achievement-tracking surface. Its panels can be rearranged or renamed by Windows and Xbox updates, so look for the profile’s achievement area rather than a fixed panel position.
What is the Gaming tab, and why might I not see it?
Xbox’s newer profile design can place achievements and completed games in a Gaming tab. Xbox has described this tab, along with Mythic Achievements that recognize completed games, in announcements for Xbox Insiders. Other profile features—such as hiding games, highlighting completed games, and completion filters—have also been introduced as Insider improvements.
That means the Gaming tab is a rollout-dependent option, not a guaranteed replacement for the console Guide or the standard app profile. An account that does not have the tab is not necessarily missing achievement data. Use the established profile achievement area in the app, or the in-game Guide path on console, while the newer layout reaches more accounts.

What Mythic status does and does not mean
Mythic Achievements can recognize games that a player has completed, including eligible Xbox 360 titles, according to Xbox’s Insider announcement. This is a way to organize or highlight completion; it does not add achievements to original Xbox games. A completed original Xbox game can still lack an achievement list because the original platform never supported that functionality.
How do I tell which generation a game belongs to?
Generation is the first diagnostic step because it determines whether an achievement list can exist. Check the game’s release generation in your Xbox library or its backward-compatibility information. A title identified as an original Xbox game cannot have Xbox achievements; a title identified as Xbox 360 may have them if it was achievement-enabled and is supported on the modern console.
Do not infer the generation from the fact that a game runs on a Series X|S console. Backward compatibility allows selected older games to run on newer hardware, but the game remains an original Xbox or Xbox 360 title for achievement purposes.
Why does my old game show no achievements?
Most missing-list reports have a straightforward explanation. Work through these cases in order instead of assuming that your profile has been damaged.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The title is an original Xbox game
This is the expected result. Original Xbox software predates Xbox achievements, so there is no achievement metadata for the console or app to display. Backward compatibility does not retrofit a list.
The title is an Xbox 360 game that is not supported
Modern consoles run only selected Xbox 360 and original Xbox games through backward compatibility. If the title is outside that catalog, it may not launch through the modern Xbox backward-compatibility environment, and its activity will not appear as a playable backward-compatible game there.
The game has no achievement support
Not every older title necessarily has an achievement list. Confirm that the specific Xbox 360 release was achievement-enabled rather than relying on its age or popularity.

The wrong account is active
Achievements belong to the Xbox profile that earned them. Sign out of a secondary profile or switch to the account used during the original play session, then reopen the game or profile history.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe app layout changed
An update can move achievements from a prominent shortcut into the profile, gaming, or completed-games area. Search within the signed-in profile for those sections before concluding that the record disappeared.
The feature is still rolling out
Insider-only and staged features do not appear for every account at the same time. If the Gaming tab, Mythic status, or a completion filter is absent, use the documented achievement area or Guide route instead.
Which method should I use: console or app?
The underlying account history is the same, but each surface is suited to a different task. Choose the console Guide when the game is open; choose an app when you want to browse your profile without launching a title.
| Comparison point | Modern Xbox console | Xbox app or PC Game Bar |
|---|---|---|
| Game generation | Shows a list only when the running title has achievement support; original Xbox games remain list-free. | Shows the profile’s available game records; it cannot create records for original Xbox titles. |
| Device surface | Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S Guide. | Android, iOS, Windows PC app, or PC Game Bar. |
| Account identity | Uses the profile signed in on the console. | Uses the profile signed in to the app or Game Bar. |
| Interface availability | Guide > Game activity > Achievements is the stable documented route. | Profile labels can move; the Gaming tab and completion features may depend on Insider or staged rollout status. |
For a single game, the console route is usually the shortest because it starts from the title already running. For a historical scan across many games, the app or profile view avoids launching each title.

What does backward compatibility change—and what does it not change?
Backward compatibility lets selected Xbox 360 and original Xbox games run on modern Xbox hardware. It can preserve access to an Xbox 360 title’s existing achievement record, which is why an older 360 game may appear in your current achievement history.
It does not convert an original Xbox game into an Xbox 360 game, and it does not generate achievements for software that originally shipped without them. The catalog is selective, and Xbox notes that features vary by game. Treat compatibility and achievements as two separate checks: first ask whether the title runs, then ask whether that title has an achievement list.

A practical troubleshooting checklist
Use this sequence when the result is unclear:
- Identify the generation. Mark the title as original Xbox or Xbox 360.
- Check whether the title is supported. Modern consoles include selected backward-compatible games, not the entire historical library.
- Confirm the profile. Use the account that earned the achievements, not merely the account currently holding the console license.
- Use the console path. With the game running, press Xbox, choose Game activity, then Achievements.
- Try the profile view. In Android, iOS, Windows, or Game Bar, open the signed-in profile’s achievement area.
- Look for rollout differences. If a Gaming tab or completion filter is missing, that can reflect Insider or staged availability rather than lost data.
- Classify the result. No list for an original Xbox game is normal; a missing list for an eligible Xbox 360 game warrants checking the title and account again.
How should I interpret achievements for a backward-compatible game?
An Xbox 360 achievement record remains tied to the 360 game’s identity even when you play it on Xbox One or Series X|S. The modern console is providing the runtime and the Guide, while the achievement list belongs to the supported 360 title.
This explains why two games that look similar in a library can behave differently. One may be an original Xbox release with no achievement functionality; the other may be an Xbox 360 release with a preserved list. The console generation you are holding is not the deciding factor—the game’s original platform and support status are.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What should I do if menu names do not match these steps?
Look for the same destination rather than an exact label. On console, start from the Xbox button and find Game activity, then Achievements. In an app, start from your profile and look for achievements, games, completed games, or a Gaming section.
Microsoft can change labels and placement between console firmware, mobile releases, Windows app versions, and account rollouts. A different arrangement does not alter the generation rule: original Xbox games have no Xbox achievements, while eligible Xbox 360 games can expose their existing records through supported tracking surfaces.
How we framed the answer
The selection of methods follows Xbox’s documented surfaces and the platform distinction that determines whether a list exists. The console route is listed first because it provides the explicit Guide path while a game is running. Android, iOS, Windows PC, and PC Game Bar follow because Xbox identifies them as achievement-tracking surfaces. The Gaming tab is separated because Xbox describes it as an Insider or staged rollout rather than a universal menu.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I earn new achievements in an original Xbox game on a Series X|S?
No. Running an original Xbox title through backward compatibility does not add an achievement system to it. You can play the supported game, but there is no Xbox achievement list to unlock or sync.
Will an Xbox 360 disc show achievements when I use it on a modern console?
Only if that specific Xbox 360 game is supported through backward compatibility and was released with achievement support. The disc or digital license does not by itself guarantee that the title is in the supported catalog.
Why can a friend see a Gaming tab while I cannot?
Xbox has described the Gaming tab and related completion features as Insider or staged improvements. Accounts can receive those interface changes at different times, so use the regular profile achievement area or the console Guide while your account awaits the rollout.
Do I need to install the game to view its old achievement record in the app?
The app can be used as a profile history surface, so you can browse available game records without launching the title on a console. If no record appears, first verify the game generation and the profile signed in to the app.
Can switching Xbox profiles make achievements disappear?
It can make the history look empty because the console and apps show the active profile’s records. Switch back to the account that earned the achievements, then reopen the profile or the game’s achievement view.
