Delta on iPhone gives you two distinct ways to preserve progress: the emulator’s save states and each game’s own native save data. Its optional Delta Sync service can synchronize games, saves, save states and settings through Google Drive or Dropbox, while compatible controllers connect through iOS Bluetooth and can be remapped for each console system.
The safest setup is to keep using the game’s normal save feature, create a named or locked save state before risky sections, enable Delta Sync on every device you use, and pair your controller in iPhone Settings before selecting it inside Delta. Delta does not supply game files; you must import your own ROMs.

What is the difference between a Delta save state and a game save?
A save state is an emulator snapshot. It captures the running game at a particular moment and is created from Delta’s pause menu, independently of the title’s built-in save screen. A native game save is the data the original cartridge or game software writes when you save through its own menus, checkpoints or battery-backed system.
Open a game’s pause menu and choose Save/Load Save States to create or restore a state. Delta’s documented save-state tools include locks to prevent an accidental overwrite and automatic backup save states. Those protections are useful when experimenting, replaying a difficult section or moving between devices.

Native saves and save states should not be treated as interchangeable. Delta Sync lists “game saves” and “save states” as separate data categories, and the official materials do not promise that every game core handles native save formats identically. For important progress, save in the game itself and keep a Delta state as a second recovery point.
How do quick saves work?
If you use an external controller, you can assign Delta’s Quick Save and Quick Load functions to controller buttons. The press kit also documents a mappable Fast Forward command. These are emulator commands, so they do not replace the game’s own save menu; they provide one-button access to the corresponding Delta functions.
How do I save and load progress in Delta on iPhone?
- Launch the game in Delta and play to the point you want to preserve.
- Open Delta’s pause menu and tap Save/Load Save States.
- Choose a save-state slot and save. Use a descriptive slot or lock the state when you do not want it overwritten accidentally.
- To return to that point later, open the same menu, select the state and choose Load.
- For progress that the game itself records, use its normal in-game save command as well. That creates native game-save data rather than only an emulator snapshot.
Keep more than one state when a decision or boss fight matters. Delta’s automatic backup behavior gives you an additional rollback option if a current state is replaced, but a backup is still tied to the emulator snapshot system, not a guarantee that every native save file can be recovered.
What does Delta Sync synchronize?
Delta Sync is optional. When enabled, it can synchronize your Delta data through either Google Drive or Dropbox. Delta’s documentation names games, save files, skins and BIOS files; its press material additionally lists game saves, save states, cheats, controller skins and controller mappings.

Delta also documents version histories, so earlier versions of synchronized data can be viewed and restored. This is particularly useful after an accidental overwrite or a bad sync, but it is not a reason to edit the cloud files manually.
How do I enable Delta Sync on iPhone?
- Open Delta and go to Settings.
- Tap Delta Sync.
- Under Service, choose Google Drive or Dropbox.
- Sign in to the selected service and approve the connection.
- Return to the Delta Sync screen and check for the Sync Status line, which appears after a service is connected.
Repeat the setup on your iPad or other device and sign in to the same cloud account if you want the installations to share data. Give the first sync time to finish before opening a game on the second device; otherwise, you may be looking at an older local copy while the cloud data is still being transferred.

How are Google Drive and Dropbox different for Delta?

Dropbox visibility does not mean the files are intended for hand-editing. Treat the Dropbox copy as Delta’s managed backup and synchronization data. If you need to recover an earlier version, use Delta’s version-history and restore tools instead of replacing files from the Dropbox website or app.
How do I move Delta saves from iPhone to iPad?
Enable Delta Sync on the original device, choose a service, and allow the initial upload to complete. On the iPad, install Delta through the channel available in your region, open Settings > Delta Sync, select the same service and sign in to the same account. Delta can then bring across the synchronized games, native saves, save states and listed configuration data.
Before deleting Delta from the old device, open a game on the new one and verify both kinds of progress: load a known save state and check whether the game’s own save menu shows the expected native save. Compatibility listed by family does not remove the pairing requirement: the controller must first be connected in iOS Bluetooth settings. Delta can then use it for gameplay and menu navigation.

How do I connect an Xbox, PlayStation or Switch controller to Delta?
- Put the controller into its Bluetooth-pairing mode according to the controller maker’s instructions.
- On the iPhone, open Settings > Bluetooth and tap the controller when it appears in the device list.
- Wait until iOS shows the controller as connected.
- Open Delta, go to Settings, choose Player 1 under Controllers, and select the connected controller.
- Start a game and test the directional controls, face buttons, shoulder buttons and menu commands.
When a controller is active, Delta displays games full screen without the touch-controller skin. You can still operate Delta’s menus from the controller. If a button layout feels wrong, open the controller-mapping options and customize the mapping for that controller and system.
Why remap controls per system?
Different console families use different button labels and layouts. Delta lets you save mappings per system and controller, so a layout that works for one platform does not have to overwrite the layout used by another. Map Quick Save, Quick Load and Fast Forward only after the ordinary game buttons work; assigning emulator commands first can make basic input harder to diagnose.

Work through the failure in this order:
- Check the service: Open Settings > Delta Sync on both devices and confirm they use the same selected service and account.
- Check Sync Status: The status line appears after a service is connected. If the second device has not connected, it may still be showing only local data.
- Look for both save types: Check the game’s native save menu and Delta’s Save/Load Save States screen. A missing state does not prove the native save is gone, and vice versa.
- Use version history: Delta documents the ability to view and restore earlier versions of synchronized data. Use that recovery path instead of editing cloud files.
- Do not edit Dropbox data: Visible files are still managed by Delta; changing them can cause data loss.
- Check the ROM: Delta’s troubleshooting guidance warns that corrupted or altered ROM files can freeze or fail to run. Re-import a clean copy of your own game file rather than assuming a save is the problem.
If the game itself freezes, test whether another known-good game launches. A failure limited to one title points toward that ROM or its compatibility, while a controller or sync problem will generally affect Delta’s menus or multiple games as well.
Where can I install Delta, and what game files do I need?
Delta’s guide says the app is available through AltStore PAL in European Union countries and through the App Store outside the EU. Availability can therefore depend on the country associated with your Apple account.
Delta does not distribute games. You must provide your own ROM files, and those files must be intact and unaltered. A damaged ROM can prevent a game from starting or make it appear that saves and controller input are failing when the underlying problem is the game file.
Which setup should you choose?
For a single iPhone
Use the game’s native save, add occasional locked save states for difficult sections, and pair a controller in iOS before selecting it in Delta. Delta Sync is optional if you do not need cloud backup or another device.
For iPhone and iPad
Enable Delta Sync with one supported service on both devices. Let the initial upload finish, verify a native save and a save state on the second device, and leave Dropbox files untouched if Dropbox is your chosen service.
For controller-heavy play
Choose a supported Xbox, PlayStation or Switch controller, confirm it appears as connected in iOS Bluetooth, then select it under Player 1. Customize mappings per system and add Quick Save, Quick Load and Fast Forward after the core controls are confirmed.
