Agentforce achieves deterministic AI-agent UI by taking the critical presentation choice away from the language model. A builder binds an action to a response format with the render: directive; when that action runs, the Connections layer applies the configured format instead of asking the model which component to use. The model still handles intent interpretation, subagent selection, and open-ended planning, but the configured form, disclosure, consent screen, or approval interface is selected by the platform. Salesforce describes that specific rendering decision as 100% deterministic. The guarantee is therefore precise: it covers the configured action and presentation path, not every output in an otherwise probabilistic conversation.
What does “100% deterministic rendering” mean in Agentforce?
It means the platform, rather than the LLM, chooses the renderer for an action that has been configured with a response format. If the action executes, Agentforce uses the bound format for that output. A required form does not depend on the model remembering an instruction, and a compliance disclosure does not disappear because a conversation took an unexpected turn.

The boundary matters. Agentforce does not make the entire agent deterministic. Intent interpretation, selection of a subagent, action planning, and free-form language generation remain probabilistic unless they are constrained separately with Agent Script or other controls. The 100% figure applies to the configured presentation decision and its action lifecycle.
How does Agentforce separate probabilistic reasoning from deterministic UI?
The architecture splits an interaction into a flexible reasoning phase and an enforced rendering phase. This preserves conversational capability while making critical UX obligations repeatable.

1. Probabilistic reasoning interprets the request
The reasoning engine reads the user’s request, determines which subagent is relevant, and plans which actions to run. That flexibility is useful for natural-language requests with several valid paths. The model can still ask clarifying questions or choose among ordinary business actions.
2. A deterministic boundary binds the critical action
For an action whose presentation must not vary, the builder adds a render: binding to a response format. The model can decide that the action is needed, but it no longer decides whether the result should be a card, a form, a disclosure, or plain text.
3. A response-format abstraction targets the client
The bound format can point to a Salesforce Lightning Web Component, a custom interface such as a React component, or structured JSON consumed by a headless application. The same action-level rule can therefore support different channels without putting component selection back into the prompt.
4. Conversation Client renders the result
Agentforce Conversation Client provides the UI container, input and message handling, token streaming, and dynamic Lightning Types renderers. Salesforce Developers says the client has processed more than 2.5 million actions across its interfaces; the guide does not state a year for that figure. That volume describes processing scale, not an independent accuracy benchmark.
What happens when a rendered action runs?
At runtime, the platform associates the action result with its configured response format and attaches the corresponding component or structured payload to the conversation output. Other actions can continue using their normal behavior, so deterministic rendering does not require every action in an agent to use the same UI.
When several actions are involved, Agentforce identifies the action configured for deterministic rendering and applies its format to that action’s output. This is an action-level guarantee, not a promise that every message in a multi-step chain will become a component. For supervised or long-running actions, rendering waits until approval and execution have completed, so users do not receive a success-oriented interface before the governed operation is finished.

How do you configure deterministic rendering with render:?
Use a distinct action for each mandatory presentation and bind that action to the format the client is expected to render. The exact builder screens and syntax can change between Salesforce releases, but the implementation logic is stable.
- Identify the non-negotiable output. Write down what must appear, such as a consent capture form, regulated disclosure, approval gate, or required data-entry form. If several outputs have different legal or operational requirements, treat them as separate actions.
- Define the response contract. Choose the Lightning Type, Lightning Web Component, custom React component, or JSON shape that the consuming client will render. Include the fields and user inputs the client must handle; do not leave the choice of component to a runtime prompt.
- Create or select the action. Keep the action’s purpose narrow enough that one response format is appropriate. A general “handle everything” action makes deterministic testing and audit evidence harder because it mixes unrelated outcomes.
- Add the render binding. Associate the action with its response format through the
render:directive. This tells the Connections layer to apply the configured presentation whenever that action produces its governed output. - Connect the client. In a Lightning experience, provide the selected Lightning renderer. In an external or headless application, implement the agreed JSON contract or custom component and map the action’s response to it.
- Exercise the complete lifecycle. Test ordinary execution, approval-required execution, long-running execution, cancellation, and multi-action chains. Confirm when the component appears, what it displays while waiting, and which action event is recorded.
- Verify the event trail. Inspect the per-action and per-session records for the action, response format, connection, and conversation point. Use those records as the evidence that the governed presentation path ran.
Can Agentforce render deterministic UI in React or a headless application?
Yes. Deterministic rendering is not limited to a Salesforce-hosted screen. The response-format abstraction can target a custom third-party UI such as React or emit structured JSON for a headless consumer. The external client is responsible for rendering the contract it receives, while Agentforce remains responsible for selecting that contract for the configured action.
For a React integration, define the component and its input schema before binding the action. The action should return data that the component can render without asking an LLM to choose among React components. For a headless integration, define the JSON contract and make the consumer’s mapping explicit; the deterministic guarantee concerns which contract is selected, while visual details still depend on the consuming application’s implementation.
This distinction is important for testing. A stable Agentforce response format cannot correct a client that ignores fields, maps them incorrectly, or deploys a different component version. Validate both sides: the platform event should identify the expected format, and the client should render that format according to its contract.

How are multi-action, approval, and long-running workflows sequenced?
Rendering follows action lifecycle state. If an action needs approval or takes time to complete, the governed component is attached after the required approval and execution steps finish. This prevents a form or disclosure that implies completion from appearing while the operation is still pending.
Multi-action chains
Mark which action owns the mandatory presentation. When the chain runs, Agentforce can continue executing ordinary actions while associating the deterministic format with the configured action’s output. Test the order explicitly, especially when an earlier action changes data used by the rendered component.

Supervised actions
Approval is part of the lifecycle rather than an afterthought. A test should cover the state before approval, the approval decision, and the post-execution rendering point. The platform’s event record should let an auditor connect the rendered output to the approved action and conversation point.
Long-running actions
Do not assume that a component appears at invocation time. Rendering waits for completion under the governed lifecycle, so the client needs an appropriate waiting or progress state of its own. The deterministic guarantee concerns the final configured format, not an invented progress design that was never bound to the action.

A prompt can tell an LLM to “always show the disclosure,” but the instruction competes with stochastic interpretation, context limits, tool choices, and unusual conversation paths. Salesforce Engineering explains the design in direct terms: the LLM was not made more deterministic; the rendering decision that needed to be deterministic was removed from the LLM entirely.
Prompt-only controls remain useful for tone, explanations, and other flexible behavior. They are a poor control for an omission that creates legal, safety, or operational risk. Bind the mandatory output at the action boundary instead of relying on the model to remember a presentation rule on every turn.
Which agent experiences should use deterministic rendering?
Use the platform-enforced path when omission or substitution is unacceptable. Typical candidates include:
- Mandatory regulatory or privacy disclosures.
- Consent capture and acknowledgment screens.
- Approval gates for sensitive operations.
- Required forms whose fields must be collected before an action can proceed.
- Structured confirmation interfaces for transactions or other irreversible changes.
Keep recommendations, exploration, and conversational explanations probabilistic when there is no single required presentation. Forcing every answer through a fixed component can make an agent less natural without improving compliance.

How does deterministic rendering compare with other controls?
The important difference is who selects the renderer and what evidence remains after the conversation.
| Approach | Who chooses the renderer? | Repeatability | External or headless support | Sequencing behavior | Audit evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Prompt-only instruction | LLM | Stochastic; an instruction can be missed | Depends on custom prompt parsing and client logic | Varies with model decisions | No platform-enforced rendering event |
render: plus a response format |
Agentforce platform for the configured action | 100% for that presentation decision and action lifecycle | Lightning components, custom React interfaces, or structured JSON | Applied to the configured action; governed actions wait for approval or completion | Action, format, connection, and conversation point recorded per session |
| Agent Script with deterministic transitions and state controls | Scripted workflow controls around broader transitions | Deterministic where explicitly modeled | Depends on the workflow and client contract | Controls state and transitions beyond one rendered action | Use workflow and action records together |
These approaches are complementary. A team can use Agent Script to constrain broader workflow state, then use render: for the exact component or response format that a critical action must produce.
How can you audit that the required UI appeared?
Agentforce records deterministic-rendering events per action and session. The records include the action, response format, connection, and conversation point. That lets a compliance or operations team verify an individual interaction and aggregate results across sessions.
Per-session verification
Start with the action that should have produced the form or disclosure. Confirm that its event identifies the expected response format and connection, then match the conversation point to the user turn or workflow state that triggered it. This distinguishes “the agent discussed consent” from “the consent component was selected for rendering.”

Aggregate reporting
For recurring obligations, aggregate the events by action, format, connection, and session. Investigate sessions with no event for a required action rather than treating a free-form message as proof of presentation. Keep the report scoped to the action’s configured lifecycle; it cannot establish that every unconstrained model response was deterministic.
Client-side checks
Platform evidence proves which format was selected. The consuming client must still be tested to show that it mounted the expected component or rendered the JSON contract correctly. Record client errors separately so a transport or UI defect is not confused with an Agentforce selection failure.

What should you test before relying on the guarantee?
A deterministic binding reduces one class of uncertainty, but release testing still needs to cover the action and client around it.
- Trigger the action with direct requests, indirect wording, and clarification turns.
- Run it alone and inside a chain with several actions.
- Test approval-required and long-running paths, including the period before completion.
- Verify that the intended format is used in each supported interface.
- Confirm that React or headless consumers honor the response contract.
- Check that the per-session event contains the action, response format, connection, and conversation point.
- Repeat the tests after Salesforce releases that change product names, SDK behavior, Lightning Types, or partner-program availability.
Salesforce Engineering states the 100% guarantee for the configured presentation decision in 2025. Salesforce product behavior, SDKs, and availability can change with later releases, so pin your own implementation and compliance documentation to the release you operate.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat are the limits of the 100% claim?
The claim does not promise deterministic intent recognition, subagent selection, action planning, or free-form prose. It also does not guarantee that an external client will display a component correctly after receiving the selected format. It says that, once the governed action and its lifecycle reach the rendering point, Agentforce does not ask the LLM to choose a different presentation.
No independent benchmark comparing this path with other agent-UI frameworks is provided in Salesforce’s cited material. Treat the 100% figure as a platform design guarantee for the configured boundary, not as a comparative benchmark for overall agent quality or reliability.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does deterministic rendering make the Agentforce model deterministic?
No. The model can still interpret intent, choose subagents, plan actions, and generate open-ended text probabilistically. Only the renderer selection bound to the configured action is removed from that decision process.
Can I use one deterministic action with several client types?
Yes, if each client implements the response-format contract it receives. A Lightning interface, React app, and headless consumer can provide different visual treatments while Agentforce selects the same governed format for the action.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →What proves that a disclosure was rendered in a specific session?
The deterministic-rendering event for that session identifies the action, response format, connection, and conversation point. Pair that platform record with client-side rendering or error telemetry when you need to prove that the consuming application mounted the selected UI.
When should I avoid deterministic components?
Avoid them for open-ended recommendations and exploratory conversations that have no single required presentation. A fixed renderer adds unnecessary rigidity when omission does not create a compliance, consent, approval, or data-capture risk.
