The only reliable way to reduce new internet data for a huge game is to reuse an existing local installation. On PS5, that means transferring the game from another PS5 on the same network and account, or retaining it on compatible storage so you do not download it again later. Pre-loading, a faster broadband tier, Ethernet, and an SSD can change when the transfer happens, how quickly it finishes, or where the files live—but none makes the first internet download smaller.

How do I transfer GTA VI between PS5 consoles instead of downloading it twice?
Use Sony’s built-in data-transfer feature when the game already exists on another PS5. Both consoles need to be on the same network and signed in to the same account; the transfer moves local data and does not waive ownership or account checks.

The drive saves future bandwidth only if you retain the files and can reconnect it when needed.
Is a PS5-compatible M.2 SSD better for avoiding re-downloads?
An M.2 SSD is the better fit when you want to launch stored PS5 games without copying them back and forth. Sony’s guidance calls for a PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe drive, a capacity between 250 GB and 8 TB, supported physical dimensions, and an effective heat-dissipation mechanism such as a heatsink. Install only a model whose dimensions and cooling solution fit Sony’s published requirements. After installation, the PS5 formats the drive, so copy any existing data elsewhere first. Once a game is installed there, it can remain playable on the console and can be moved with the console when Sony’s compatibility and account requirements are met.
An M.2 drive does not shrink the first download. Its bandwidth benefit is avoiding a later download after you have deleted or replaced the local installation. Compare its cost with the value of keeping several large games available and with your console’s remaining internal capacity.
Does pre-loading reduce the amount of data?

A higher-throughput plan can finish sooner. Ethernet
A LAN cable can reduce wireless interference and make a local PS5-to-PS5 transfer more consistent. It may also improve a download’s sustained rate when Wi-Fi is the bottleneck. There is no published GTA VI measurement showing any data saving from Ethernet.
