If the widely reported 210GB PlayStation 5 download figure is accurate, a full-speed connection would need about 4 hours 40 minutes at 100Mbps, 9 hours 20 minutes at 50Mbps, and 28 minutes at 1Gbps. Those are ideal line-rate calculations, not guarantees. Wi-Fi conditions, other household traffic, console activity, Rockstar’s servers and launch-day congestion can extend the wait.
The most important qualification is that 210GB is a reported PS5 listing figure, not a storage specification Rockstar has officially confirmed. The Xbox Series X|S download size has not been established either.

How long will GTA 6 take to download?
At the speeds most homes advertise, the theoretical answer ranges from nearly two days to less than half an hour. The calculation treats 210GB as 1,680 gigabits and assumes the console receives data at the connection’s full advertised rate for the entire transfer.

For planning, treat the table as a minimum-like estimate. ISPreview’s 2026 calculation similarly describes nearly five hours at 100Mbps and about 28 minutes at 1Gbps as best-case results on an unloaded connection. GTA Toolbox notes that full line speed is an assumption and that launch-week downloads can be slower.
10Mbps: about 46 hours 40 minutes
A 10Mbps line would need almost 47 hours if it never lost speed. That is roughly two full days, so starting only on launch morning would be impractical.
25Mbps: about 18 hours 40 minutes
At 25Mbps, the ideal transfer is 18 hours 40 minutes. An overnight start may not be enough if the connection is shared or the download rate fluctuates.
50Mbps: about 9 hours 20 minutes
50Mbps reduces the ideal time to 9 hours 20 minutes. That fits a long workday or overnight window only when the console can keep downloading without interruption.
100Mbps: about 4 hours 40 minutes
The line-rate answer at 100Mbps is 4 hours 40 minutes. For a real schedule, allow around five hours or more rather than assuming the advertised maximum will be sustained.
200Mbps: about 2 hours 20 minutes
200Mbps cuts the ideal transfer to 2 hours 20 minutes. Other traffic, Wi-Fi limitations and server throughput can make the elapsed time longer.

300Mbps: about 1 hour 33 minutes
A 300Mbps connection needs approximately 1 hour 33 minutes in the ideal calculation. It is fast enough for a same-evening download, but it is not a promise of a 93-minute completion.
500Mbps: about 56 minutes
500Mbps produces an ideal time of 56 minutes. The result is under an hour only if the console, network and download servers all deliver close to that rate.
1Gbps: about 28 minutes
At 1Gbps, the arithmetic gives approximately 28 minutes. ISPreview explicitly frames this as a best-case result on an unloaded connection, so a launch-day wait can be longer.
How is the 210GB download time calculated?
Network providers quote bits per second, while storage is normally described in bytes. Because one byte contains eight bits, 210GB becomes approximately 1,680 gigabits.
- Convert storage to bits: 210GB × 8 = approximately 1,680 gigabits.
- Convert gigabits to megabits: approximately 1,680,000 megabits.
- Divide by the advertised rate in Mbps to get seconds.
- Divide by 3,600 to convert seconds into hours.
In formula form: time in hours = 1,680,000 ÷ speed in Mbps ÷ 3,600. This decimal convention matches the way broadband speeds are normally marketed. It does not account for protocol overhead, pauses, retransmissions or a server that cannot supply data at your line rate.
Why can the real download take longer?
The ideal table assumes a continuously saturated connection. Several independent limits can increase the elapsed time, and none can be reduced to a universal percentage penalty from the available evidence.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Wi-Fi conditions: Distance, walls, interference and the console’s wireless radio can prevent it from receiving the advertised broadband rate.
- Shared household traffic: Streaming video, cloud backups, work calls and other game downloads compete for the same connection.
- Console activity: Background updates, installation work and system tasks can affect when the transfer finishes.
- Server-side limits: Rockstar’s delivery infrastructure may be busy, particularly when many players begin pre-loading or downloading together.
- Launch congestion: A calculation based on an unloaded line is most useful as a best case; it should not be read as a launch-day guarantee.
An Ethernet cable can remove one source of wireless variability, but no evidence establishes that it guarantees a particular speed increase. Likewise, replacing a router does not automatically make a console download faster if the broadband service or remote server is the limiting factor.
Can I preload GTA 6 before launch?
Rockstar Support says pre-loading begins at local midnight on November 12, 2026. The same support material identifies November 19, 2026 as the launch date for the documented platforms, giving eligible players a seven-day window to start the transfer before release day.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Use that window whenever possible. Starting at local midnight on November 12 avoids making your connection compete with the busiest launch-day rush, although it still does not guarantee a constant download rate.
What the platform information actually confirms
Rockstar currently lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The reported 210GB figure is associated with a PS5 listing attributed to PlayStation Game Size and reported by GamesHub; Rockstar had not confirmed it. There is no established Xbox Series X|S size to substitute into the table.
Does the physical GTA 6 copy include a disc?
No. Rockstar’s support information says the physical version contains a download code inside the box and does not include a disc. Buying a boxed copy therefore does not eliminate the large download: after redeeming the code, the game can still be pre-loaded according to the platform’s schedule.
A physical purchase may change how you obtain the license, but it does not turn the reported download into a small disc installation. Plan the internet transfer and storage space separately.

How much storage should I plan for on PS5?
Do not treat a reported download size as the same thing as installed size or required free space. A download can contain compressed data, while installation may require additional temporary room for unpacking, verification or updates. Rockstar has not confirmed a final PS5 storage requirement in the information available here.
Check the console’s free space before pre-loading and leave room for installation activity rather than targeting exactly 210GB. If the internal drive is short on capacity, a PS5-compatible M.2 NVMe SSD is the relevant expansion category. Compatibility requirements still apply: not every M.2 drive is suitable for PS5 games, and extra storage does not make the internet connection faster.
Download size, installed size and free space are different
- Download size: The amount of data transferred from the network; 210GB is the reported PS5 figure.
- Installed size: The space occupied after the console has unpacked and installed the game; it may differ from the download.
- Required free space: The room the system needs to download, install and possibly update the title; it can be higher than either figure.
Can I download GTA 6 overnight?
Whether overnight is enough depends on your speed and when you start. At 10Mbps, 25Mbps or 50Mbps, the ideal times are approximately 46 hours 40 minutes, 18 hours 40 minutes and 9 hours 20 minutes respectively, so one night may not complete the transfer. At 100Mbps, an overnight window is more plausible, but the ideal 4 hours 40 minutes should still be treated as around five hours or more for scheduling.
Before leaving the console to download, confirm that it is connected to the internet, has enough free storage and is configured to remain available for downloads in its power settings. A sleep or rest-mode setting can vary by console configuration; the important requirement is that the system remains online and permitted to download.
What should I do before starting the download?
- Verify the platform: Use the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S edition listed for your console. Do not assume the reported PS5 size applies to Xbox.
- Check available storage: Keep more free space than the reported transfer amount because installation and updates can need additional room.
- Schedule around pre-load: Rockstar says PS5 and Xbox Series X|S pre-loading starts at local midnight on November 12, 2026.
- Reduce competing traffic: Pause other large downloads and, where practical, avoid simultaneous high-bandwidth streaming or backups.
- Use the most reliable connection available: Wired networking may reduce wireless variability, but it cannot guarantee a particular throughput.
- Start early: If your speed is below 100Mbps, begin as soon as pre-loading opens rather than waiting for launch day.
What if the download estimate is much longer than expected?
First compare the console’s current rate with your plan’s advertised rate, not with the theoretical time in the table. If the rate is low, stop other household transfers, move the console closer to the access point or use a wired connection where feasible, and verify that the console is not installing another update at the same time.
If your local network appears healthy but the rate remains low, the remote service may be busy. Restarting repeatedly will not create server capacity; leave the console connected and allow additional time. Do not infer a new official file size from a changing estimate, because the 210GB figure itself remains unconfirmed by Rockstar.

What is the bottom line for each common internet speed?
Use the ideal figures as the fastest plausible schedule, then add contingency for conditions you cannot control. A 100Mbps household should plan for roughly five hours or more, while a 1Gbps household should regard 28 minutes as an unloaded best case rather than a promise. The safest way to avoid a launch-day wait is to use the November 12 pre-load window, keep sufficient console storage free and remember that Xbox’s final download size has not been confirmed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is 210GB the final installed size of GTA 6?
No. The figure is a reported PS5 download listing, not a Rockstar-confirmed installed-size specification. Installation space and update requirements can differ from the amount transferred.
Will the Xbox Series X|S version also be 210GB?
That has not been established. The reported number is tied to a PS5 listing, so Xbox owners should wait for an official or platform-specific listing instead of assuming the same size.
Does buying the physical edition avoid the internet download?
No. Rockstar’s support information describes a boxed download code with no disc. The code still requires the game data to be downloaded to the console.
What is the difference between Mbps and MB/s?
Mbps means megabits per second, the unit used for broadband advertisements. MB/s means megabytes per second; because a byte contains eight bits, a displayed MB/s value is numerically about one-eighth of the equivalent Mbps rate before overhead.
