Google Pixel phones support eSIM, Call Screen, wireless charging and long software support, but the exact experience depends on the model, carrier, country and repair market. eSIM activation requires a participating carrier; Call Screen has different automatic and manual availability by country; wireless charging excludes several midrange models and changes standards on newer generations; and repair prices are quoted from the phone’s IMEI rather than published as one fixed fee. Recent Pixel generations receive seven years of operating-system, security and Pixel Drop updates, while older phones follow shorter or different policies.
Does Google Pixel support eSIM?
Yes. Google defines an eSIM as an embedded digital SIM that lets you activate cellular service without inserting a plastic SIM card. Whether activation succeeds is controlled by your carrier: the carrier must support eSIM and may ask for your phone’s IMEI or another device identifier.

Set up an eSIM during phone onboarding
- When the Pixel setup process asks how to connect to a mobile network, choose Download SIM.
- Select Set up an eSIM and follow the carrier’s verification and download prompts.
- Keep the phone connected as instructed. If the carrier requires device information, provide the IMEI or ID it requests.
Add an eSIM after setup
- Open Settings.
- Tap Network & internet, then SIMs.
- Choose Add SIM and tap Set up an eSIM.
- Complete the carrier’s activation flow. The wording can differ slightly by carrier and Android release.
Pixel 7 and later models may store two eSIM profiles, but using two profiles at the same time is still subject to carrier support. A phone can therefore have the hardware capability while a particular plan or market does not allow the configuration.
What to do when eSIM transfer fails
Check that the carrier supports eSIM for your exact Pixel model and plan, then retry the transfer with a reliable internet connection and the latest system software. Repeated failures should be handled by the carrier, because it controls the activation record and may need to confirm the IMEI or issue a new activation process. Do not delete a working profile until the carrier confirms that the replacement is active.

Can Pixel screen spam calls before I answer?
Yes, on supported devices and with a SIM from a supported country. Call Screen asks the caller who they are and why they are calling before you decide whether to answer. Availability is not worldwide, and automatic screening is offered in fewer countries than manual screening.
Automatic and manual availability
| Call Screen mode | Countries listed by Google | Important condition |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic screening | Australia, Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States | A supported-country SIM is required. |
| Manual screening | Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States | A supported-country SIM is required; the feature may be started for an individual incoming call. |
A phone purchased in one country does not by itself guarantee access while travelling. Google’s requirement is tied to the supported-country SIM, so check the SIM and carrier you will actually use.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTurn on Call Screen
- Update the Google Phone app from your app store.
- Open Phone and tap More (the three-dot menu).
- Choose Settings, then Spam and Call Screen or Call Screen, depending on the software version.
- Review the available automatic and manual screening settings and enable the option you want.
On Pixel 7 and later, Google exposes protection levels that can cover suspected spam, possibly faked numbers and first-time callers. The labels and choices can vary with country, carrier and Phone-app version, so seeing fewer options is not necessarily a fault.
What the caller experiences
When screening is available, the Assistant asks the caller to identify themselves and state the purpose of the call. You can read the transcript and choose to answer, hang up or mark the call as spam. The feature is designed as a screening step, not as a guarantee that every unwanted call will be blocked.

Which Pixel phones charge wirelessly?
Google lists wireless charging on Pixel 3 and newer phones, with five exceptions: Pixel 3a, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a (5G), Pixel 5a (5G) and Pixel 6a. Always check the exact model number before buying a charging stand or pad.
| Pixel family or model | Wireless-charging status | Standard or limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Pixel 3 and later, excluding the models listed below | Supported | Qi-based charging; speed depends on the phone and charger. |
| Pixel 3a, 4a, 4a (5G), 5a (5G) and 6a | Not supported | These exceptions do not have built-in wireless charging. |
| Pixel 9 | Supported | Up to 15 W with Pixel Stand (2nd generation); up to 12 W with Qi-certified EPP chargers. |
| Pixel 9 Pro | Supported | Up to 21 W with Pixel Stand (2nd generation); up to 12 W with Qi-certified EPP chargers. |
| Pixel 9 Pro XL | Supported | Up to 23 W with Pixel Stand (2nd generation); up to 12 W with Qi-certified EPP chargers. |
| Pixel 10 and later | Qi2 supported, except Pixel 10a | These models do not work with Pixel Stand (1st or 2nd generation). |
The wattages in the Pixel 9 rows are maximum ratings, not a promise that the phone will draw that power continuously. Temperature, alignment, case thickness, battery level and the charger’s actual output can reduce charging speed. A Qi-certified extended-power-profile (EPP) pad is therefore compatible in principle, but it will not reproduce the Pixel Stand rates listed for the Pixel 9 family.

Choosing a charger
- Confirm the exact Pixel model and whether it uses ordinary Qi or Qi2.
- Match the charger’s certified standard to the phone; do not assume that a Qi2 accessory works with every Pixel.
- For Pixel 9, the published 15 W, 21 W and 23 W figures apply specifically to Pixel Stand (2nd generation), while Google lists up to 12 W for Qi-certified EPP chargers.
- Remove objects or unusually thick cases if charging is intermittent or unusually slow, and keep the phone and pad from overheating.
How can I get a Pixel repaired?
Google offers mail-in and walk-in repair routes in supported markets. The choices depend on your country, the phone, warranty status and the type of damage. Google does not publish one worldwide price list: an IMEI-based repair request produces the applicable estimate.
Compare the available repair routes
| Route | Best suited to | What determines availability or cost |
|---|---|---|
| Mail-in service | Owners in markets where Google or its repair partner accepts shipped devices | Country, warranty, model, damage and the assigned repair partner. |
| Walk-in service | People near an authorized location in a supported market | Local coverage, parts availability, warranty and inspection findings. |
| Self-repair | Owners comfortable replacing an eligible component themselves | Device eligibility, regional parts availability, genuine parts, tools and the user’s technical experience. |
Prepare a Pixel before service
- Back up photos, messages, authenticator data and any other information you cannot replace.
- Remove the physical SIM. If the phone uses eSIM, transfer or otherwise deactivate the profile as directed by your carrier before handing over the device.
- Use Repair Mode when it is available for your model and software version. It is intended to let a technician test the phone without giving normal access to your personal data.
- Start Google’s repair request and enter the IMEI so the system can calculate the estimate for your location and device condition.
- Read the warranty and damage terms in the quote before shipping or checking in the phone.
The estimate can differ between locations and between warranty-covered and out-of-warranty damage. A cracked display, liquid exposure or multiple damaged components may change the final decision after inspection, so treat the IMEI quote as the applicable starting estimate rather than a universal price.

Is self-repair an option?
Google says owners can buy genuine spare parts through iFixit, which also supplies step-by-step guides and tools. Support includes Pixel 2 and later phones, subject to regional exclusions and the parts available for a particular model. Google recommends relevant technical experience; replacing a battery, screen or board can damage the phone or create a safety hazard if done incorrectly.
Before choosing self-repair, confirm that the exact part is sold for your region, read the complete guide, use the specified tools and understand that opening the phone can affect water resistance and warranty treatment. If the repair involves a swollen battery or liquid damage, use a professional route instead of continuing to operate the device.

How many years of updates does Pixel get?
Google lists seven years of operating-system, security and Pixel Drop updates for recent Pixel generations. For Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, the seven-year period is measured from the date each model first became available on the Google Store in the United States.
| Pixel support category | Published policy | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Recent generations, including the Pixel 9 series | Seven years of OS, security and Pixel Drop updates | Count from first US Google Store availability for the Pixel 9-series models. |
| Older Pixel generations | Five years or other periods shown on Google’s specifications pages | Do not apply the newer seven-year promise retroactively; check the individual model’s listing. |
“Pixel Drop” refers to Google’s periodic feature releases delivered alongside the broader update program. The seven-year statement covers all three categories together; it does not mean every feature arrives on every model or in every country at the same time.
How to calculate a model’s expected support window
- Identify the exact Pixel model and storage or regional variant.
- Find the model’s first-availability date on Google’s hardware specifications page. For Pixel 9-series calculations, use the first US Google Store availability date specified by Google.
- Add the published support period for that generation, rather than assuming the newest policy applies.
- Allow for staged releases, carrier approval and regional differences when an update appears later on your phone than on another Pixel.
When buying an older or used Pixel, the remaining support time is more important than the original launch year. A phone from a generation with a shorter policy may have fewer security updates left even if its hardware still performs well.

Use the following checklist instead of judging a phone from the family name alone:
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

- Call Screen: Confirm that your SIM country is supported and whether your model and Phone-app version expose automatic screening, manual screening or both.
- Wireless charging: Check the exact model against Google’s exception list, then match Qi, Qi2 or Pixel Stand requirements and the relevant wattage.
- Repair: Check whether mail-in or walk-in service exists where you live, and request an IMEI-based estimate before deciding between service and self-repair.
- Updates: Use the generation-specific support period and first-availability date to calculate remaining coverage.
Bottom line
Pixel support is strong but not uniform. Confirm your carrier and country for eSIM and Call Screen, verify wireless charging against the exact model, obtain an IMEI-based repair estimate, and calculate update life from the model-specific availability date rather than relying on the Pixel brand name.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Call Screen use Wi‑Fi or mobile data while it is screening a call?
Google says Call Screen works on the device and does not use Wi‑Fi or mobile data for the screening process. You still need ordinary cellular service to receive the incoming call, and the feature remains subject to the supported-country SIM requirement.

Why is my wireless charger slower than the wattage printed on the box?
The published Pixel figures are maximum ratings measured with particular chargers, and the phone can reduce power when it is hot, poorly aligned, enclosed in a thick case or near full charge. A charger’s headline wattage also does not override the Pixel model’s own Qi or Qi2 limit.
Can I request a repair without knowing the final price first?
Yes. Start the repair flow with the phone’s IMEI to receive the estimate that applies to your country, warranty status, model and reported damage. The available mail-in or walk-in route is shown as part of that location-specific process.
Are all Pixel phones covered by the seven-year update promise?
No. Google’s specifications pages show shorter or otherwise different periods for older generations. The seven-year wording applies to recent models listed under that policy, so check the individual phone rather than extrapolating from a newer Pixel.
