Google AI Mode does not offer a documented one-click file export for an individual answer. Its Share control creates a link to the existing AI Mode thread, while Google Takeout is the documented way to download account data that may include AI Mode activity. The shared link captures the questions and answers already in the thread at the moment you create it; private follow-ups added later are not added to that link. Before sharing, inspect the whole thread for personal or confidential information, because anyone who receives the link may be able to reshare it.
What is the difference between sharing a Google AI Mode response and exporting it?
Sharing publishes a web link to an AI Mode conversation. Exporting means downloading data to your device; Google’s current help documentation describes that broader download through Google Takeout, not a separate AI Mode-only file for one response.

The distinction matters because the two actions have different audiences and scopes:

Google says Search Services History can include queries, viewed results, AI Mode responses and related activity when the relevant history setting is enabled. The exact controls are rolling out gradually, so labels and availability can differ between accounts and interfaces.

How do I share a Google AI Mode response on a computer?
On a computer, open the response in Google Search or go directly to google.com/ai, then use the Share control below the AI response.
- Open Google Search and start or reopen AI Mode, or visit
google.com/ai. - At the bottom of the AI response, click Share.
- Choose Copy link to place the URL on your clipboard, or select one of the social platforms Google displays.
- Paste the link into your message, document or browser to verify what the recipient will see before sending it.
Google recommends having history and personalized recommendations enabled for the best sharing experience. Its help page says sharing may be unavailable when that setting is off. If the control is missing, open your current Search history settings and look for the labels shown on your account; Google is updating these controls and does not promise one universal layout. In the Google app on Android, open AI Mode and tap Share beneath the response. You can then copy the link or use a social app offered by the share sheet.
- Open the Google app and enter AI Mode.
- Open the conversation containing the response you want to share.
- Tap Share beneath the response.
- Tap Copy link, or choose an available social platform and complete that app’s send screen.
If Share is not available, check whether history and personalized recommendations are enabled, then revisit the current Search settings. Availability can vary during Google’s staged settings rollout. Android-specific guidance is in Google’s help article.
What does a shared AI Mode link show?
A shared link includes the questions and responses that already exist in that AI Mode thread when you create the link. Treat the entire conversation as shareable, not just the response whose Share button you pressed.

Existing questions and answers are included
If you asked several questions in one thread, the shared version can contain those earlier questions and their responses. Scroll through the thread first and remove or avoid sharing anything that reveals private details, account information, workplace material or another person’s data. Google specifically warns users not to share personal information and notes that shared links can be reshared.

After you create the link, additional questions and responses that you add in your own private thread do not update that link. If the conversation changes, create a new shared link after checking the revised thread.
A recipient’s follow-up is separate
When someone opens the shared thread and asks a follow-up question, that activity goes into a new private thread in the recipient’s AI Mode history. It does not become part of your original private conversation or silently expand the link you sent. The Android sharing documentation describes this behavior at Google Search Help.
Can I export one AI Mode answer as a file?
Google’s reviewed documentation does not describe a separate AI Mode-only export file for an individual response, nor does the Share button download a PDF, text file or spreadsheet. If you need a local copy of one answer, you can use your browser or device’s ordinary print or save features as a manual workaround, but that is not an AI Mode export function and may not preserve interactive elements.
For account data, use Google Takeout. Google’s Search Services History guidance says a Takeout download can include Search Services History, which may contain AI Mode responses when the relevant history setting is enabled. Takeout is an account-data archive rather than a selector for one conversation, so review the available data categories and the resulting archive before assuming a particular thread is present. Which option should I use: a public link or Google Takeout?
Choose based on whether another person needs to read a conversation or you need your own account data for retention, analysis or records.

How do I find, delete or reshare a public AI Mode link?
Use AI Mode history’s public-link manager. Google documents options to copy a link again, delete one shared link or delete all shared links.
- Open AI Mode history.
- Open the More menu.
- Select Manage public links.
- Choose the individual link you want to copy again or delete, or use the control to delete all links.
Deleting a shared link and deleting the original AI Mode thread have different documented timing. Google says deleting a shared thread removes the shared content within minutes. Deleting the original AI Mode thread may take a few days to remove its corresponding shared link, so do not describe both actions as immediate. If access is urgent, remove the public link first, then delete the underlying history entry.
How do I delete AI Mode history?
You can delete one AI Mode history entry or clear all entries from the history controls. This removes saved AI Mode activity, but related Search activity may require a separate action.

- Open AI Mode history.
- Select the specific entry.
- Use the entry’s delete control and confirm if prompted.
Delete all AI Mode entries
- Open the history menu.
- Choose the option to delete all AI Mode history.
- Confirm the deletion shown by Google’s current interface.
Check My Activity for remaining records
Google says deleted AI Mode searches may remain in My Activity for some time and are automatically removed there in less than 24 hours. You can also delete the activity manually in My Activity. A search that began as an AI Overview and then moved into AI Mode can produce separate history entries, so removing the AI Mode entry may not remove the original Search history entry. Where is my AI Mode history and Search Services History?
AI Mode history is available from the AI Mode interface, where you can open conversations and reach history actions such as Manage public links. Broader Search activity is managed through My Google Activity and the Search Services History settings.
Search Services History is being rolled out, so your account may show different names, switches or menus from another person’s account. Google’s current guidance says the service can include queries, viewed results, AI Mode responses and related activity. Open Search Services History help and follow the labels visible in your account rather than relying on a screenshot from an older interface.
Why can’t I see the Share button or a history control?
The most likely causes are account settings, a staged interface rollout or the difference between a Search result, an AI Overview and an AI Mode thread. Work through these checks in order:

- Check Search history and personalized-recommendation settings, because Google says sharing may require them.
- Refresh the page or update the Google app, then reopen the conversation.
- Look in the current AI Mode history menu for Manage public links rather than expecting a button beside every result.
- If your account still lacks the control, consult Google’s current help pages; rollout differences mean the feature may not yet appear in your interface.
Do not assume that the absence of a Share button means a response can be downloaded another way. Google’s documented alternatives remain link sharing and, for eligible account data, Google Takeout.
What should I check before sending an AI Mode link?
Use this short privacy checklist immediately before copying the URL:
- Read from the beginning of the thread, not only the latest answer.
- Remove personal identifiers, account numbers, addresses, private prompts and confidential work details from the conversation before sharing.
- Consider whether earlier questions reveal more context than the recipient needs.
- Send the link only to the intended audience and remember that recipients can reshare it.
- After sending, use Manage public links if you need to revoke that URL.
These checks are especially important because the link represents the thread’s existing content at creation time; it is not a filtered excerpt of one sentence or answer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I share only one answer from a long AI Mode conversation?
Google’s documented Share action operates on the existing thread and does not describe a control for selecting a single response. If the earlier questions contain sensitive context, start a separate AI Mode thread containing only material you intend to disclose, then share that thread.
Can I download just one conversation with Google Takeout?
Google documents Takeout as a download of selected account data, not as a per-conversation AI Mode export. The archive’s contents depend on the history services and data categories available to your account when you request it.
Does deleting AI Mode history erase a link I already sent?
Deleting saved history and removing a public link are separate controls. Use Manage public links when your immediate goal is to stop access through a shared URL, then handle history deletion separately.
Why do I see both an AI Overview entry and an AI Mode entry for one search?
A search that starts as an AI Overview and continues into AI Mode can generate separate history entries. Review both the AI Mode history and My Activity when you need a complete cleanup.
