Google has added Song Search history so you can revisit the searches you ran when identifying tracks—helpful when you remember the vibe but not the title. If you use Google on Android to search for songs, this history can save you from starting over.
This guide shows the exact places to check on your phone, including the most reliable method via Google’s My Activity. You’ll also find troubleshooting steps when the history doesn’t show up right away.

What Google Song Search history means on Android
Song Search history refers to records Google stores for searches related to identifying music (for example, when you used a song-identification flow or searched by track details). It’s tied to your Google Account, and the same activity is typically surfaced under your broader Search/Web & App activity controls.

Prerequisites before you try
- You’re signed into the same Google Account on your Android phone.
- Web & App Activity / Search history is enabled for that account (otherwise you may not have saved history to view).
- Google app is up to date. Update it from the Google Play Store so you get the newest UI and history categories.
If you recently cleared app data or disabled activity tracking, history for song searches may be missing.
Method 1: Check it from the Google app
This method usually surfaces history through the Google app’s “your data” area. The labels can differ slightly between builds, but the flow is consistent.
- Open the Google app on your Android device.
- Tap your profile picture (top-right) or tap More / Settings depending on your layout.
- Go to Settings → look for Your data in Search or History (wording varies).
- Choose Search history and/or a category related to music or song searches.
- Sign in again if prompted, then scroll to find entries that match song searches.
If you see general Search history but no “song” category, use Method 2 to filter more precisely.
Method 2: Use Google My Activity (most reliable)
Google My Activity is where activity categories are easiest to search and filter. Even if your Google app UI doesn’t show a “Song Search history” section, My Activity typically does.
- On your Android phone, open the browser (Chrome is fine).
- Go to:
https://myactivity.google.com - Sign in with the same Google Account you use on your phone.
- Tap Filters (or use the filter controls).
- Choose Date range if you know when you searched.
- Look for a category or search type related to Song, Music, or Song search.
- Open a matching entry to view details.
For faster results, use the page search box inside My Activity to look for keywords tied to song searches, such as an artist name or track title.

How to filter and find only song searches
Because Google can store activity under multiple groupings, you may need to combine filters. Here are practical ways to narrow it down.
Filter by date
If you remember roughly when you identified the song, set a narrow date range (for example, “last week” or “last 30 days”) so you don’t drown in unrelated searches.
Search within the activity page
In My Activity, use the built-in search field. Try common identifiers: the artist name, the song title, or even “song search” wording from the flow you used.
Scan for activity types that reference music
Even if the UI doesn’t explicitly say “Song Search history,” look for entries labeled around music, tracks, or music identification. Tap an entry to confirm.
| What you remember | Best filter/search approach |
|---|---|
| Approximate time | Set a tight date range in My Activity, then search within the page |
| Artist name | Use My Activity search for the artist name, then check song-related entries |
| Song title | Search by track title; open matching entries to confirm the song identification search |
| You only remember it was a song-identification attempt | Filter by recent dates and look for music-related activity types |
Turn Song Search history on or off
If you can’t find older song searches, it may be because history wasn’t being saved at the time. You can check and adjust your activity controls for your account.

1) No “Song Search history” category appears
Start with My Activity (Method 2). The Google app UI can lag behind account features, and some accounts may show the category under a broader Search history view.
2) History appears empty even though you searched
- Confirm you’re signed into the correct Google Account on the phone.
- Check whether Web & App activity or Search history was disabled at the time.
- Wait: syncing can take minutes to hours depending on connectivity.
3) Only part of your song searches show
You might have multiple Google Accounts or switched accounts. Also, some song identification flows may be stored under different activity types than classic web searches.
4) You recently cleared Google app data
Clearing app data can break the app’s ability to display locally cached history, though My Activity should still reflect server-stored activity if history was enabled.
5) You turned off activity later and old entries are missing
Disabling history can stop new entries from being saved. Older entries might remain, but depending on your settings and deletes you may have removed prior activity.

Privacy and data controls you should understand
Song Search history is part of your account’s broader activity trail. That means you can manage it using Google’s history controls and tools for deleting activity.
- Pause or disable activity saving if you don’t want future song searches stored.
- Delete activity for a date range or search type via My Activity.
- Understand scope: controls apply across devices signed into the same Google Account.
If your goal is “keep the history but remove past items,” use My Activity to delete specific entries instead of turning history off entirely.

Search by what you remember
Try searching inside My Activity for the artist or track name. Even when the category label is missing, the text associated with the activity often still matches what you searched.
Check Google account activity on another device
If your Android app is glitching, open https://myactivity.google.com on a laptop or tablet logged into the same account. If the history shows there but not on Android, it points to an Android UI/update issue.
