GoDaddy and WP Engine both offer managed WordPress hosting, but they target different buying decisions. GoDaddy’s listed plans emphasize low first-year pricing, automatic core updates and, on higher tiers, daily backups, staging and security tools. WP Engine publishes a more detailed WordPress platform model with daily and on-demand backups, one-click staging, estimated traffic capacity and tiered support. Neither is automatically better: the right choice depends on your country and renewal price, billing term, number of sites, expected traffic, and whether you need WordPress-focused operational and developer features.
The prices shown by the two companies are not like-for-like: GoDaddy’s opened page displays euro-denominated first-year offers, while WP Engine’s US page shows an annual Essential price in US dollars. Use the comparison below to match the plan to your actual requirements rather than choosing from the largest headline discount.

What is the difference between GoDaddy and WP Engine managed WordPress hosting?
Both services run WordPress on infrastructure managed by the host, so routine platform work such as WordPress core maintenance, backups or security controls is handled through the provider rather than a completely self-managed server. The practical difference is how much detail each provider publishes about tiers, capacity, tooling and support.
GoDaddy’s managed WordPress approach
GoDaddy lists three managed WordPress tiers on the reviewed page: Basic, Deluxe and Ultimate. Automatic WordPress core updates are shown as included across the managed plans. The higher tiers add daily backups, staging and more security and performance features, while the entry tier uses weekly backups.

WP Engine’s platform approach
WP Engine describes managed WordPress, PHP and MySQL, daily and on-demand backups, one-click staging and development environments as platform features. Its plan comparison also publishes estimated visit ranges, storage ranges, bandwidth and a support ladder, making capacity planning more explicit than on the GoDaddy plan listing.
These descriptions are provider offerings, not independent speed or reliability tests. Actual results depend on the site’s theme, plugins, database, traffic pattern and configuration.
How much do GoDaddy and WP Engine cost?
There is no honest single-price winner because the displayed currencies, promotion periods and billing terms differ. GoDaddy’s page shows first-year monthly offers in euros; WP Engine’s US page shows an annual-billing price in US dollars.
| Provider and tier | Displayed price | Billing and geography | What the display means |
|---|---|---|---|
| GoDaddy Basic | €2.79/month (shown against €13.99) | First-year offer; euro-denominated page | Promotional first-year amount, not a universal global or renewal price |
| GoDaddy Deluxe | €9.99/month (shown against €17.99) | First-year offer; euro-denominated page | Promotional first-year amount, not a universal global or renewal price |
| GoDaddy Ultimate | €12.99/month (shown against €24.99) | First-year offer; euro-denominated page | Promotional first-year amount, not a universal global or renewal price |
| WP Engine Essential | $28/month; $336 due today | US pricing page; billed annually | Annual charge shown for the Essential plan |
| WP Engine Business | Not stated as a public monthly amount on the opened page | Higher-touch tier | Page directs prospective customers to “Get in touch” |
| WP Engine Enterprise | Custom | Enterprise tier | Requires a provider quotation |
Before checkout, compare the same country, currency, contract length, tax treatment, introductory period and renewal rate. Also check whether a listed amount is charged monthly or collected for a full year. A low first-year number can be useful for a new project, but it should not be treated as the long-term cost until the renewal line is visible.
Which provider supports more websites and traffic?
GoDaddy’s displayed tiers are organized primarily around site count and storage. WP Engine publishes traffic, storage and bandwidth estimates by plan, which is useful for sites with measurable growth or high campaign traffic.
Rank #2
| Capacity measure | GoDaddy Basic | GoDaddy Deluxe | GoDaddy Ultimate | WP Engine Essential | WP Engine Business | WP Engine Enterprise |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Websites included | 1 (additional sites can be added) | 1 (additional sites can be added) | 3 (additional sites can be added) | Not stated in the cited comparison | Not stated in the cited comparison | Not stated in the cited comparison |
| Displayed storage | 10 GB NVMe | 20 GB NVMe | 30 GB NVMe | 10–50 GB | 50 GB–2 TB | 2 TB+ |
| Estimated monthly visits | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | 25,000–400,000 | 400,000–800,000 | 800,000+ |
| Bandwidth | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | 75 GB | 550 GB | 550 GB+ |
WP Engine labels visit figures as estimates rather than hard guarantees. The provider specifically directs owners of dynamic sites or sites with traffic spikes to contact it, because a simple page-view estimate may not represent resource demand. GoDaddy’s reviewed listing does not provide an equivalent tier-by-tier visit or bandwidth matrix, so confirm limits during checkout if those numbers affect your decision.

How do backups compare?
Backup frequency is one of the clearest differences between the displayed GoDaddy tiers and WP Engine’s platform description.
- GoDaddy Basic: weekly backups.
- GoDaddy Deluxe and Ultimate: daily backups.
- WP Engine: daily automated backups plus on-demand backups; the plan comparison says backup contents are retained for no less than 30 days and no longer than 60 days.
Frequency alone does not answer every recovery question. Ask how many restore points are available, whether database and media files are captured together, how a restore is initiated, and whether staging restores are possible without overwriting production. The published WP Engine retention range is a platform statement, not a promise that every account keeps the same number of labeled restore points. GoDaddy’s listing gives frequency but does not state an equivalent retention range on the reviewed page.
Which host offers staging and development environments?
If you need to test a plugin, theme or WordPress update away from visitors, staging can prevent a live-site outage. GoDaddy lists staging on Deluxe and Ultimate, not on Basic. WP Engine lists one-click staging and development environments as platform features.
GoDaddy staging decision
Choose at least Deluxe if a staging copy is a requirement. Confirm how many staging instances are included, whether staging storage counts toward the plan, and how database changes are pushed back to production; those details are not specified in the reviewed plan listing.
Rank #3
WP Engine staging decision
WP Engine’s one-click wording indicates a built-in workflow rather than a manually duplicated site. Confirm the number of environments and any limits that apply to your tier before relying on it for a team workflow, because the public comparison does not provide every environment quota in the same table.
What automatic updates and WordPress management do you get?
GoDaddy lists automatic WordPress core updates across its managed WordPress plans. WP Engine describes managed WordPress/PHP/MySQL and security patching as part of its platform. Neither statement means every plugin or theme update is risk-free or automatically applied in every situation.
- Keep a current backup before a major WordPress, plugin or theme change.
- Use staging to test compatibility when your plan includes it.
- Review update logs and the site’s checkout documentation for exclusions, rollback behavior and maintenance windows.
Core updates, plugin updates and security patches are separate controls. A host can manage the WordPress core while still requiring you to review third-party plugin vulnerabilities and application behavior.
Which service has stronger performance and security features?
The providers describe different feature bundles, but the claims below come from their own product pages rather than independent benchmarks.
| Area | GoDaddy listing | WP Engine listing |
|---|---|---|
| Optimization and caching | Site optimizer on all listed plans; Ultimate adds Object Cache Pro and application performance monitoring | EverCache |
| CDN | CDN performance claims on Deluxe and Ultimate | Global Cloudflare-powered CDN |
| Malware and vulnerability controls | Automated malware scans and removal on Deluxe and Ultimate | Security patching and plugin risk scans |
| DDoS protection | Enhanced DDoS protection on Deluxe and Ultimate | Layer 3+4 DDoS protection; advanced DDoS is an optional add-on |
| Web application firewall | Not stated on the reviewed plan listing | Managed WAF is an optional add-on |
| Uptime commitment | 99.9% uptime guarantee on managed WordPress plans | 99.99% SLA for plans with isolated resources; not stated as applying to every tier |
A CDN can reduce latency for cacheable assets, while object caching and application monitoring address different bottlenecks. Security scans also do not replace least-privilege accounts, tested updates and an incident-response plan. Treat the performance language as feature and service claims, not as proof that one host is faster for your particular site.
Rank #4
How does support compare?
WP Engine publishes support by tier more explicitly. Its pricing page lists 24/7 chat for Essential, chat and phone for Business, and dedicated account and priority support for Enterprise. GoDaddy’s general hosting information advertises phone and chat support, but the reviewed WordPress plan listing does not provide an equivalent plan-by-plan support matrix.
| Support question | GoDaddy | WP Engine |
|---|---|---|
| Channels shown in the cited pages | Phone or chat on the general hosting page; plan-specific split not stated | 24/7 chat on Essential; chat and phone on Business; dedicated and priority support on Enterprise |
| Migration assistance | Older overview discusses automated migration and developer access; verify current inclusion at checkout | Migration assistance is described for eligible plans; higher tiers may include advisory or hands-on support |
| Guaranteed response or resolution time | Not stated | Not promised in the cited material |
Do not infer a guaranteed resolution time from “24/7” availability. It describes when a channel is offered, not how quickly a complex plugin, DNS or traffic incident will be fixed. If your launch depends on hands-on help, ask sales to identify the exact plan entitlement in writing.
Is GoDaddy or WP Engine better for WordPress?
The better fit depends on the operating profile of your site, not a universal ranking.
GoDaddy is a plausible fit when:
- You are optimizing for the displayed first-year euro offer and have confirmed renewal pricing for your market.
- You run one or a few smaller sites and the listed 10–30 GB storage tiers are sufficient.
- You need daily backups and staging but do not need them on the entry tier, making Deluxe or Ultimate acceptable.
- You prefer a conventional phone-or-chat support model and can validate the exact assistance included with your plan.
WP Engine is a plausible fit when:
- You want published estimates for visits, storage and bandwidth to support capacity planning.
- Daily and on-demand backups, one-click staging and development environments are central to your workflow.
- You need a clearly defined support ladder as the site or team grows.
- You are prepared for annual billing on Essential or a sales-led process for Business and Enterprise.
These are conditional recommendations based on listed features and terms, not claims that one provider will deliver universally better speed or uptime.
How should you choose a plan step by step?
- Identify the market and currency. Select the country where the account will be billed and record the currency, tax treatment and renewal amount.
- Count production sites. Include planned additional sites, multisite networks and staging copies when checking storage and site allowances.
- Estimate traffic realistically. Use analytics, campaign calendars and peak events rather than an average month alone. For dynamic sites or spikes, ask WP Engine about the estimate or ask GoDaddy for the applicable resource limits.
- Set a recovery requirement. Decide whether weekly backups are acceptable, whether you need daily or on-demand points, and how long you must retain recoverable content.
- Define your deployment workflow. If you test changes before publishing, select a tier with staging and verify environment limits and push-to-production behavior.
- List security controls you actually need. Compare malware scanning, removal, DDoS protection, CDN, caching, plugin risk scans and any paid WAF or advanced DDoS add-ons.
- Match support to consequence. A brochure site may be fine with general chat or phone support; a revenue-critical store may justify a tier with phone, priority or advisory coverage.
- Read the service terms. Confirm backup restoration, SLA eligibility, traffic overages, storage limits, cancellation rules and renewal pricing before paying.
What should you verify before migrating a WordPress site?
A migration can fail even when the new host has the right headline features. Prepare a rollback and validate the application, not just the page design.
Best Value
- Lower DNS time-to-live in advance if you control the domain, while keeping the current site online.
- Inventory WordPress core, PHP version, plugins, themes, cron jobs, email sending, scheduled imports and external API connections.
- Create a complete backup of files and the database and test that it can be opened or restored.
- Build the destination copy and check URLs, media, forms, checkout, logins, redirects, search indexing settings and transactional email.
- Use a temporary URL or staging environment for functional checks; do not publish a staging copy with accidental no-index or password settings.
- Freeze or replay new orders, comments and form submissions during the final cutover so data created on the old site is not lost.
- Change DNS, monitor both hosts, then keep the old account available until propagation and application checks are complete.
WP Engine says migration assistance applies to eligible plans, while GoDaddy’s older overview describes automated migration and developer access. Because those entitlements can change, confirm the current plan and obtain any required eligibility in writing.
What are the common mistakes in a GoDaddy versus WP Engine decision?
- Comparing unlike prices: a euro first-year offer and a US annual price cannot establish which service is cheaper without matching terms.
- Assuming entry plans include every workflow: GoDaddy’s listed staging and daily backups begin above Basic.
- Treating visit estimates as guarantees: WP Engine’s ranges are estimates, and dynamic or spiky sites need a provider conversation.
- Overreading uptime percentages: WP Engine’s 99.99% SLA is tied to isolated-resource plans; GoDaddy’s 99.9% guarantee is a separate commitment with its own terms.
- Skipping restore testing: a backup that has never been restored is an assumption, not a recovery plan.
- Buying security labels instead of controls: verify what is scanned, what is removed, what is an add-on and who responds to an incident.
- Confusing support hours with expertise: 24/7 channel availability does not promise a particular fix time or plugin specialist.
Where can you check the current terms?
Provider pages change by country, promotion and plan revision. Check the current GoDaddy Managed WordPress plans and WP Engine plans and pricing for the checkout amount, renewal line and included limits. For support and migration details, consult WP Engine’s WordPress support information. GoDaddy’s broader managed WordPress explanation is available at its managed hosting overview, but verify older feature descriptions against the current plan documentation.

Choose GoDaddy when its regional introductory offer and tiered features meet your site’s needs after you confirm renewal pricing, backups, staging and support. Choose WP Engine when explicit capacity estimates, daily and on-demand backups, built-in staging and a more detailed support structure justify annual billing or a higher-tier quote. Compare the exact checkout and contract terms for your market before committing; the published pages do not support a universal winner.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I start with one host and move to the other later?
Yes, WordPress files and databases are portable, but the move still requires DNS planning, testing and a rollback window. Preserve the old site until forms, orders, redirects, cron jobs and email have been verified on the new host.
Do the advertised uptime percentages mean my site will never go offline?
No. An uptime guarantee or SLA defines a contractual availability target and possible remedies, subject to eligibility and exclusions. Planned maintenance, application errors and traffic overload may be handled differently, so read the provider’s SLA terms.
Are backups a substitute for a separate WordPress backup?
Not automatically. Host backups are valuable for infrastructure recovery, but an independent copy gives you another control plane if an account is locked or a mistake is replicated. Keep at least one export outside the hosting account and periodically test restoration.

Neither published plan table guarantees unlimited burst capacity. WP Engine provides estimated ranges and explicitly asks owners of dynamic or spiky sites to make contact; with either provider, discuss the event, caching, resource limits and escalation path before a campaign or launch.
