The MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro-470 is the closest direct alternative to the GMKtec EVO-X1 Pro if you want a premium AMD mini PC for local AI, development and heavy multitasking, because its reviewed configuration uses a Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 and socketed DDR5 memory. Choose the Beelink SER9 Pro when a smaller, office-oriented system and built-in meeting features matter more than upgradeable memory. If you prefer to stay with GMKtec, the EVO-X2 is the same-brand step-up listed with Ryzen AI Max+ 395.

Availability changes the answer: GMKtec’s European collection currently shows the EVO-X1 Pro as sold out and the EVO-X2 as in stock, but that is a regional, live listing rather than a worldwide status. Compare the exact memory, SSD, operating system, warranty and price in your country before ordering. “AI PC” branding alone does not predict local-model speed; memory capacity, quantization, software, cooling and power limits do.

Which GMKtec EVO-X1 Pro alternative should you buy?

Use this shortlist to narrow the decision before comparing seller pages. The entries are not interchangeable: some favor expandable hardware, some favor a smaller office footprint, and one is a configurable Intel kit rather than a ready-to-run PC.

Model Best fit Documented configuration or position Main trade-off
MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro-470 Local AI, development and long-lived heavy multitasking Reviewed Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 with Radeon 890M; socketed DDR5; three M.2 slots in the reviewed system Larger chassis; memory and storage details vary by SKU
Beelink SER9 Pro Office work, calls and compact desk setups HX 370 configurations with Radeon 880M; reviewed unit had 32GB soldered memory; storage expansion is supported Memory cannot be replaced in the reviewed design
GMKtec EVO-X2 Same-brand buyers who want a newer top-tier platform GMKtec EU lists Ryzen AI Max+ 395 and currently shows stock in that collection Regional stock and the exact preconfigured memory, SSD and price must be checked
GEEKOM A9 Max Premium AMD mini-PC buyers comparing several HX tiers Current comparisons include HX 370 and HX 470 versions Confirm the exact processor and configuration; versions are not equivalent
ASUS NUC 15 Pro+ Buyers comfortable configuring a business-oriented Intel kit Configurable compact Intel system Kit pricing excludes the memory, storage, operating system and setup you add
ASUS ROG NUC Gaming or GPU-heavy work Gaming-focused compact PC with discrete graphics Larger, more expensive and less office-like than an integrated-GPU mini PC

Lower-cost models such as the GMKtec M6 Ultra or AceMagic K1 can make sense for ordinary office tasks, but they belong to a lower performance tier and should not be presented as equivalent local-AI workstations.

What is the GMKtec EVO-X1 Pro, and what is actually verified?

GMKtec’s European AI-PC collection identifies the EVO-X1 Pro as an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 mini PC. On the collection page observed for this comparison, the Pro was marked sold out at the displayed European price. The same page listed the EVO-X2 with AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 as in stock. Both facts are time- and region-sensitive: a European listing does not establish availability, price or configuration in North America, the United Kingdom, Australia or another market.

There is no manufacturer specification sheet for every EVO-X1 Pro configuration in the available material. That means you should not publish a universal claim about its RAM type, number of SSD slots, port layout, chassis dimensions, operating system or power adapter without checking the current regional product page.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Be particularly careful with the earlier EVO-X1 review. Notebookcheck’s reviewed non-Pro unit used a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, Radeon 890M graphics, 32GB of soldered LPDDR5X memory and a 1TB NVMe drive; the review also documents OCuLink. Those are useful family-context facts, not a verified EVO-X1 Pro specification sheet. The Pro’s HX 470 designation should not be silently replaced with the older review unit’s HX 370.

How should you match a mini PC to local AI and everyday work?

Start with the workload, not the product name. A mini PC that feels identical for browser tabs can behave very differently when a model, virtual machine or long video export consumes most of its memory and cooling budget.

Local model inference

Memory is often the first constraint. Model size, quantization, context length and the software runtime determine how much RAM or shared graphics memory is needed. A machine with more upgrade headroom can remain useful as your models grow, while a fixed-memory machine may force you to use smaller quantized models or offload work. No single “AI PC” label guarantees a particular model will fit or run at a particular speed.

The live local-AI comparison interface used by some buying guides lists model-memory needs and estimated runtimes, but those figures are third-party estimates rather than matched laboratory tests of these systems. Treat them as planning clues, then check the exact model, memory capacity and power profile you intend to buy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Office multitasking and calls

For documents, web applications, spreadsheets, video meetings and light creative work, a compact system with enough memory and a fast SSD is usually more important than the highest AI tier. The SER9 Pro is positioned in this category and adds meeting-oriented voice features. Its reviewed 32GB memory is soldered, so choose the capacity carefully at purchase.

Software development and virtual machines

Compilers, containers and virtual machines benefit from memory headroom and fast, expandable storage. Socketed RAM and multiple M.2 slots can reduce the need to replace an entire machine when projects grow. Check whether a seller’s advertised capacity is one module or a matched kit and whether the drive bays are available after the included SSD is installed.

Photo, video and other sustained workloads

Integrated graphics can be capable, but a short benchmark does not prove sustained performance. Cooling, fan behavior, power limits and the application’s hardware acceleration determine how a mini PC behaves during a long export or render. The available material does not provide a matched noise or sustained-load test across the shortlist, so do not infer quiet operation or all-day boost clocks from a single score.

Games and discrete-GPU applications

If your priority is modern games, CUDA-style workloads or another task that specifically benefits from a discrete GPU, the ASUS ROG NUC is a different class of option. Compare its size, price and graphics performance against your real games rather than treating it as a like-for-like office replacement for an integrated-GPU mini PC.

Why is the MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro-470 the closest direct alternative?

It matches the EVO-X1 Pro’s premium AMD AI-mini-PC positioning while addressing the most consequential long-term concern: upgradeability. TechRadar’s reviewed AI X1 Pro-470 used a Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 and Radeon 890M, and the review describes socketed DDR5 memory rather than permanently soldered RAM.

Memory and storage flexibility

The reviewed system has three M.2 slots. That gives a buyer more ways to add fast storage, separate an operating-system drive from project data or keep a spare drive for testing—subject to confirmation that the current SKU uses the same board layout. The review unit’s expansion story is more important than a generic “up to” claim: verify the number of accessible slots, supported drive lengths and whether one slot is occupied by the supplied SSD.

Who should choose it

  • Users who expect local models, containers or virtual machines to grow over time.
  • Developers who want replaceable memory instead of buying a new PC when capacity becomes limiting.
  • Creators who need several fast project volumes and can accept a somewhat larger chassis.

What to verify before ordering

  • The exact RAM capacity and kit configuration.
  • Which M.2 slots are populated and the supported SSD sizes.
  • Included operating system, charger, warranty and seller location.
  • Whether the listed price is for the reviewed HX 470 configuration or another processor tier.

Is the Beelink SER9 Pro better for office work?

It can be, when your priority is a compact office computer rather than maximum expansion. SER9 Pro configurations use the Ryzen HX 370 and Radeon 880M, and its positioning emphasizes everyday productivity and meetings. The reviewed design’s 32GB memory is soldered, while storage can be expanded; a buying guide lists expansion to 8TB, but confirm the seller’s exact drive support and included capacity.

Where it fits

The SER9 Pro is a sensible choice for a fixed desk setup with office applications, many browser tabs, calls and moderate creative work. Meeting-oriented voice features may be useful in a shared workspace, although you should still check the microphones, camera compatibility and operating-system controls you need.

Its non-negotiable trade-off

Soldered memory removes a common upgrade path. Select enough RAM at checkout for the virtual machines, browser sessions or local tools you expect to use over the computer’s life. Storage expansion does not compensate for a memory ceiling when a workload needs to keep a model or several large applications resident at once.

Should you buy the GMKtec EVO-X2 instead?

The EVO-X2 is the natural same-brand alternative when you want to remain in GMKtec’s ecosystem and the EVO-X1 Pro is unavailable. GMKtec’s European collection lists the EVO-X2 with AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 and showed it in stock when checked.

That listing establishes the processor family and regional stock status, not a universal configuration. Before paying, confirm the RAM amount and whether it is replaceable, SSD capacity and slot count, display and USB ports, networking, operating system, warranty coverage and the delivered price in your country. An apparently newer processor does not automatically make the EVO-X2 the better purchase if it ships with less memory or a configuration that cannot be expanded for your workload.

How do GEEKOM A9 Max and ASUS NUC 15 Pro+ compare?

GEEKOM A9 Max

The A9 Max appears in current premium mini-PC comparisons with both HX 370 and HX 470 versions. Treat those as separate products: processor tier, integrated graphics, memory and cooling can change with the SKU. It is worth shortlisting if a local seller offers a configuration that matches your required RAM and SSD at a better delivered price, but do not compare an HX 370 listing with an HX 470 listing as if they were the same machine.

ASUS NUC 15 Pro+

The NUC 15 Pro+ is a configurable Intel compact system rather than a preconfigured AMD AI box. Its headline kit price is not a complete system price. Add the memory, SSD, operating system and any setup or licensing costs before comparing it with a ready-to-use mini PC. It can suit business buyers who value a conventional Intel platform and their own component choices; it is less convenient for someone who wants to unpack a fully configured local-AI machine.

When do lower-cost or gaming alternatives make sense?

GMKtec M6 Ultra and AceMagic K1

These lower-cost directions are appropriate when the real requirement is email, web applications, documents, streaming and light multitasking. They can reduce the purchase price and power draw, but their lower performance tier makes them poor substitutes for a top-end local-AI workstation. Buy one only after confirming that your intended model, memory footprint and applications fit within the specific configuration.

ASUS ROG NUC

The ROG NUC belongs on the list when discrete graphics are the priority. It is larger and more gaming-specific than a typical tiny office mini PC, so evaluate desk space, acoustics, power consumption and the price of the GPU capability you will actually use. For ordinary office work, that extra graphics hardware may be unnecessary overhead.

What hardware differences matter most in a fair comparison?

Compare like with like. A processor name, “AI” badge or attractive bare-kit price can hide the differences that determine whether the system remains useful.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Memory capacity and upgrade path

Record both the installed capacity and whether it is soldered or socketed. The reviewed MINISFORUM system uses socketed DDR5, while the reviewed SER9 Pro uses soldered memory. The earlier non-Pro EVO-X1 review also reports 32GB soldered LPDDR5X. Do not apply that last figure to the Pro without a Pro-specific listing.

SSD layout

Note the number of M.2 slots, interface generation, supported drive lengths and which slot contains the factory SSD. Three slots in the reviewed MINISFORUM system create expansion options, but the current SKU still needs confirmation. A claim such as “up to 8TB” describes a storage ceiling, not the capacity included in every box.

With this port, you could install external GPU with faster support speeds compared to Thunderbolt 4 and USB4. Note: *Non-hot-swappable, OCulink requires one M.2 2280 PCIe4.0 SSⅮslot*.

External expansion and ports

USB4, display outputs and Ethernet matter only if they match your peripherals and monitors. OCuLink is useful for a compatible external GPU or high-bandwidth enclosure, but it is a specific expansion use case rather than a universal benefit. Notebookcheck documents OCuLink on the EVO-X1 family review, and TechRadar documents it on the reviewed AI X1 Pro; verify the exact Pro port list before buying a dock or GPU enclosure.

Cooling, noise and sustained power

Mini PCs can deliver strong short bursts and then reduce clocks under a long load. Ask whether a review measured a sustained workload, fan noise and surface temperature under the same power mode you will use. The available comparisons do not establish a controlled, cross-model noise or sustained-performance ranking, so leave room for configuration and room-temperature differences.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How can you compare price and availability without being misled?

Use a complete system price for the same country and currency. Include the memory, SSD, operating system, power adapter, shipping, taxes, warranty and return terms. A bare NUC kit and a preconfigured AMD mini PC are not directly comparable until those additions are priced.

Stock is equally specific. GMKtec’s observed EU collection showed the EVO-X1 Pro sold out and the EVO-X2 in stock; neither status proves what a retailer in another region has on hand. Record the seller, configuration and date you checked, and recheck immediately before purchase because mini-PC listings and promotional prices change.

What should you check before placing an order?

  1. Write down the workload. Specify the local model or software, expected context size, number of virtual machines, monitor count and games or creative applications.
  2. Set a memory floor. Choose the capacity that fits your workload now, then decide whether socketed memory is worth paying for future growth.
  3. Confirm the exact SKU. Match the processor, integrated graphics, RAM technology, SSD capacity and operating system on the seller page—not just the family name.
  4. Map expansion. Count free M.2 slots, identify USB4 and display outputs, and verify OCuLink only if you have a concrete external-GPU or enclosure plan.
  5. Price the complete system. Add taxes, shipping, storage or memory upgrades, OS licensing and any accessories required for your desk.
  6. Check support and returns. Confirm warranty geography, return window, replacement-part availability and whether the seller handles firmware or driver issues.
  7. Recheck availability. Live stock and prices can change between comparison and checkout, especially for regional collection pages.

What common buying mistakes cause disappointment?

  • Confusing EVO-X1 with EVO-X1 Pro: the reviewed HX 370, 32GB soldered LPDDR5X and 1TB NVMe belong to the earlier EVO-X1 review unit, not a universal Pro specification.
  • Assuming “AI” means a model will fit: inference depends on model size, quantization, memory, software and power limits.
  • Buying soldered memory without planning: a fixed 32GB configuration may be comfortable today but restrictive for larger models or several virtual machines later.
  • Comparing a kit price with a complete PC: add RAM, SSD, OS and setup to a configurable NUC before judging value.
  • Using a short benchmark as a noise guarantee: sustained load, cooling mode and room temperature can change the experience.
  • Treating OCuLink as mandatory: it matters mainly when you have a compatible external-GPU or high-bandwidth expansion plan.
  • Generalizing EU stock: a sold-out or in-stock badge on a European page does not describe every market.

What is the practical verdict?

Choose the MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro-470 when upgradeable memory and multiple SSD slots are central to a local-AI or development workstation. Choose the Beelink SER9 Pro for a compact, meeting-friendly office computer when you can live with soldered memory. Consider the GMKtec EVO-X2 if the Pro is unavailable and its current regional configuration gives you the memory, storage and warranty you need. Use the GEEKOM A9 Max or ASUS NUC 15 Pro+ only after matching the exact SKU and complete system cost; choose the ROG NUC when discrete graphics, not tiny size, is the deciding requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a mini PC run large language models locally without an internet connection?

Yes, provided the model and runtime fit within the system’s available memory and supported software. Quantized models generally require less memory, while larger context windows and simultaneous applications increase the requirement; check the specific model’s documented memory target rather than relying on the PC’s AI branding.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is soldered RAM always a deal-breaker in a compact PC?

No. It is reasonable for a fixed office workload whose memory needs are known and stable. It becomes a serious limitation when you expect to add virtual machines, larger local models or demanding creative projects, because storage upgrades cannot increase the memory ceiling.

Do I need OCuLink to use an external GPU?

No, but OCuLink can provide a direct high-bandwidth connection on systems that support it. An external GPU also requires a compatible enclosure, power supply, drivers and a practical desk setup, so confirm the complete chain before paying extra for the port.

How often should I recheck mini-PC prices and stock?

Check again at checkout and immediately before publishing or buying. Regional listings, promotional prices and configurations can change quickly, and an EU collection page cannot be used as a guarantee for another country.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
