On a Galaxy Z Fold 8, the dependable screenshot command is to press the Side key and the lower part of the Volume key at the same time, then release. The image is saved in Gallery. If that button combination is awkward, enable Palm swipe to capture and sweep the edge of your hand across the display. For a webpage or other tall document, take a normal screenshot first and tap Scroll capture in the screenshot toolbar.
Those are the three methods documented for the Fold8 itself. Samsung’s broader Galaxy guide also describes voice-assistant commands and a Take screenshot shortcut in the Tasks Edge panel, but their presence can depend on your software and settings. The available documentation therefore does not substantiate seven separate, Fold8-specific alternatives; this guide separates confirmed methods from options you should check on your own phone.

Use the hardware shortcut: press the Side key and the lower part of the Volume key simultaneously. Release both as soon as the screen flashes or the capture feedback appears. The screenshot is then stored in Gallery.
This is the model-specific procedure described in Telstra’s Galaxy Z Fold8 Android 17 support guide and in a surfaced Fold8 manual excerpt. It does not require a setting to be enabled, works for an ordinary visible screen when the app allows capture, and is the best first step when you need a reliable result.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If holding both keys is uncomfortable, the Fold8 manual documents Palm swipe to capture. If you need content below the current view, Scroll capture is a follow-on action that starts with a regular screenshot. Voice commands and the Tasks Edge panel are additional Galaxy features, not guaranteed Fold8 alternatives.
Which screenshot methods are actually confirmed for the Fold8?
The table separates procedures documented for the Fold8 from features Samsung describes generally for Galaxy phones and tablets.
| Method | Physical buttons | Setup required | Best for | Compatibility note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Side key + lower Volume key | Yes | None | A normal visible screen | Fold8-specific instructions; the app must permit capture |
| Palm swipe to capture | No | Enable under Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures | One-handed ordinary screenshots | Fold8 manual method; the app must permit capture |
| Scroll capture | Only for the initial screenshot | No separate switch; use the screenshot toolbar | Webpages and other content taller than the display | A follow-on to a normal screenshot, not a separate initial capture command |
| Voice command | No | Check whether Bixby or Google Assistant is enabled and offers the command | Hands-free capture | Listed in Samsung’s general Galaxy guide; availability on every Fold8 setup is not established |
| Tasks Edge panel shortcut | No | Check whether the Tasks Edge panel is available and configured | A menu-based shortcut | Listed in Samsung’s general Galaxy guide; check the individual phone |
The documentation does not verify seven distinct ways to start a screenshot on every Galaxy Z Fold 8. S Pen Screen write is not a valid addition: Samsung limits that feature to compatible devices, and Android Authority reported on July 22, 2026, that the Fold8 does not support the S Pen.
How do I use the Side key and Volume shortcut?
For a standard screenshot, use this sequence:
- Open the screen you want to preserve.
- Press the Side key and the lower part of the Volume key at the same time.
- Release both keys promptly. The resulting image is saved in Gallery.
Pressing one key noticeably earlier than the other can change the result. Keep the phone steady and use a brief, simultaneous press rather than holding the keys down. If the screen does not respond, try again with the lower section of the Volume rocker; the Fold8 instruction refers specifically to that part of the key.

What if the button shortcut changes the phone’s power or volume behavior?
- Check that both keys are being pressed together, not in sequence.
- Make sure your fingers are on the Side key and the lower Volume section, rather than the upper Volume section.
- Try a second screen that normally permits screenshots. A protected app can reject the capture even when the key timing is correct.
How do I turn on Palm swipe to capture?
Palm swipe avoids a two-button press. On the Fold8, enable the feature at Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures → Palm swipe to capture, then move the edge of your hand left or right across the display.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Advanced features.
- Choose Motions and gestures.
- Turn on Palm swipe to capture.
- Return to the target screen and sweep the edge of your hand across the display from one side to the other.
Use the side edge of your hand, not a flat palm pressed against the screen. A smooth pass across the display is more consistent than a short tap or a diagonal touch. The manual describes both left-to-right and right-to-left swipes, so use whichever direction is more comfortable.
Why does Palm swipe do nothing?
- Recheck the exact setting path; the gesture is unavailable while its switch is off.
- Keep the hand edge in contact with the display during the pass and move across the screen rather than toward it.
- Test on a permitted screen. Gesture recognition cannot override an app or feature that blocks screenshots.
How do I capture a full webpage or other long page?
Scroll capture extends a regular screenshot to include content that is below the visible screen. It is not a separate way to begin a screenshot: first capture the current view, then use the toolbar that appears.
- Open the webpage, document, conversation, or other tall content.
- Take a normal screenshot with the Side key and lower Volume key, or with Palm swipe.
- When the screenshot toolbar appears, tap Scroll capture.
- Let the capture extend through the hidden content, stopping when the portion you need is included.
- Open Gallery to view the resulting elongated image.
The Scroll capture control is useful only when there is additional content to capture below the current view. If the toolbar does not offer it, the screen may not be vertically extendable, or the app may restrict screenshots. In that case, capture the permitted visible sections separately rather than treating the missing control as a hardware fault.

Can Bixby or Google Assistant take a screenshot?
Samsung’s general Galaxy support guide describes voice commands through Bixby or Google Assistant, including a “Take screenshot” request. Because that guide covers Galaxy devices broadly, verify that your Fold8’s selected assistant is enabled, recognizes the command, and has the necessary permissions before relying on it.
To check, invoke the assistant you already use and say the literal task phrase “Take screenshot.” If it does not recognize the request, use the hardware or Palm swipe method instead. The available material does not establish identical voice-command behavior across every Fold8 software version, carrier configuration, language, or assistant setup.

Samsung’s general Galaxy guide also lists a Take screenshot shortcut in the Tasks Edge panel. If the panel and task are present on your phone, open the Edge panel, select the Tasks panel, and choose the screenshot command. This gives you a menu-driven route without pressing the Side and Volume keys.
Do not assume the shortcut is installed simply because it appears in a general support article. Edge-panel availability and the task list can vary with software and configuration. If you cannot find Tasks, check the phone’s Edge-panel settings; if the panel is unavailable, return to the documented Fold8 methods.

Why can’t my Fold8 screenshot a particular screen?
Samsung US Support states: “Some apps or screens may block screenshots for privacy or security reasons.” The company also notes that screenshot availability can vary by model, software, provider, and screen. A failed capture can therefore be an intentional restriction rather than a problem with your buttons or gesture.
Signs the restriction is intentional
- The shortcut works in Gallery, Settings, or another ordinary screen but fails only in one app.
- The screenshot toolbar does not appear, or Scroll capture is absent on content that otherwise looks long.
- The app handles financial, identity, streaming, or other protected information and displays a warning or blank result.
When a target is blocked, capture a permitted screen or use the app’s own export, share, or download function if it provides one. Do not treat a security restriction as something to bypass; changing screenshot methods cannot make a protected screen capturable.

Does the Galaxy Z Fold 8 support S Pen screenshots?
No supported evidence in the available Fold8 instructions makes S Pen Screen write a suitable method. Samsung’s general guide qualifies Screen write as a feature for compatible devices, not every Galaxy model, and Android Authority’s July 22, 2026 report says the Fold8 does not support the S Pen.
That is why S Pen annotations should not be counted among the Fold8’s screenshot methods. Use the screenshot toolbar’s available editing controls after a permitted capture, or annotate the saved image in an app that supports it.

Which method should I choose?
- Need a normal screenshot immediately: press the Side key and lower Volume key together.
- Find two-button presses awkward: enable Palm swipe to capture and use a left-to-right or right-to-left hand-edge sweep.
- Need a complete webpage or tall document: start with either normal method, then tap Scroll capture.
- Need hands-free control: test “Take screenshot” with the configured Bixby or Google Assistant, but treat it as device-dependent.
- Prefer a panel command: check whether Tasks Edge includes Take screenshot on your Fold8.
- Nothing works in one app: test another permitted screen before troubleshooting the phone; the app may be enforcing a privacy or security block.
What should I check when screenshots still fail?
| Symptom | Likely explanation | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| No image after pressing the keys | Keys were not pressed simultaneously, or the screen blocks capture | Repeat on a normal screen with the lower Volume section; then test the target app separately |
| Palm swipe is ignored everywhere | The gesture switch is disabled or the swipe is not crossing the display | Follow the full Settings path and make a deliberate edge-of-hand pass |
| Scroll capture is missing | The screen has no additional vertical content, or the app restricts it | Try a long, permitted webpage after taking a normal screenshot |
| Voice command is not recognized | The assistant or command is unavailable in the current setup | Check the configured assistant and use the button or palm method as the fallback |
| Tasks Edge is not listed | The general Galaxy option is not enabled or included in this software configuration | Review Edge-panel settings; do not treat its absence as a Fold8 hardware failure |
Frequently Asked Questions
Where should I look if a screenshot is not immediately visible?
The Fold8-specific instructions identify Gallery as the save location. Open Gallery after the capture and look for the newly created image; if the target app blocked the operation, no file will be created.
Why does Scroll capture appear on one page but not another?
The control is intended for content that continues below the current viewport. A fixed or protected screen may not expose the option even though ordinary screenshots work elsewhere.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Can a carrier or software update change which screenshot options I see?
Yes. Samsung says availability can vary with the model, software, provider, and screen. Recheck gesture, assistant, and Edge-panel settings after a major software change rather than assuming every Galaxy guide applies identically.
Why do some guides suggest S Pen Screen write for the Fold8?
Samsung’s general documentation describes Screen write for compatible devices, so it is easy to mistake a broad Galaxy feature list for a Fold8 specification. The Fold8-specific evidence and a July 22, 2026 report indicate that the phone does not support the S Pen.
