There is no established overall winner between Samsung’s newly announced Galaxy Tab S12 tablets and Apple’s iPad Pro for professional work. Choose by the exact apps and file workflows you need, then compare multitasking, display size, accessories and local total cost. Samsung’s U.S. announcement says the S12 series becomes available October 7, 2026; as of October 3, it has not yet reached that stated availability date. Neither the cited manufacturer specifications nor announcements establish a direct performance comparison or hands-on test.
Which Galaxy Tab S12 and iPad Pro models are being compared?
Samsung’s U.S. announcement describes two Galaxy Tab S12 models: the 14.6-inch S12 Ultra and 12.6-inch S12+. Both have 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays, according to Samsung’s September 30, 2026 announcement. Samsung lists U.S. starting prices of $1,399.99 for the Ultra and $1,199.99 for the S12+, with availability beginning October 7, 2026. These are U.S. launch details, not a current or worldwide price guarantee.

Apple’s current iPad Pro technical specifications cover 11-inch and 13-inch models with Tandem OLED displays and ProMotion up to 120Hz. The cited page lists M5 configurations and storage from 256GB to 2TB. Those size and display specifications describe different product lines; they do not establish which screen is better for a particular task.
If you regularly work with large canvases, timelines, documents or side-by-side windows, the 14.6-inch S12 Ultra offers the largest stated display among these options. The 11-inch iPad Pro is the smallest listed model here and may better suit a compact carry setup. Consider screen dimensions alongside the keyboard or stand you plan to use, since those affect the footprint of a working setup.

Will the apps and files you need work on a tablet?
Start with a list of required applications, specific features, file formats, plug-ins and any handoff requirements. Matching an app’s name across Android and iPadOS does not prove that the tablet versions have the same capabilities, file behavior or compatibility with desktop workflows.
Galaxy Tab S12 software
Samsung specifies Android 17 with One UI 9 and names apps including Photoshop, Notability, Goodnotes, LumaFusion, Notion and Clip Studio Paint in its S12 announcement. Samsung describes Photoshop as preloaded and says buyers are eligible for four months of Photoshop mobile plan access. The announcement says the app is initially distributed through Galaxy Store for at least six months starting October 7, 2026; it also identifies AI Assistant as beta. Other app offers and trials have eligibility, subscription, market and end-date terms. Treat them as conditional promotions, not guaranteed cash savings. Samsung’s named apps and offers do not establish feature parity with desktop software or iPad versions.

iPad Pro software
Apple’s cited specification page identifies iPadOS, built-in apps and M5 configurations, but it does not assess third-party app versions or compare professional features with the S12. Verify the exact functions you depend on—such as file import/export, plug-in support, collaboration, licensing and external-device compatibility—before choosing either tablet.

How do multitasking and external displays fit your work?
Samsung specifies Multi Window with up to three sections and DeX, which it presents as a PC-like working environment. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S12 product page and FAQ also cautions that certain specialized software may still require a laptop. DeX can change how apps and windows are presented; it does not make Android equivalent to a desktop operating system or guarantee that desktop-only software will run.

Apple lists Thunderbolt/USB 4 and support for one external display on the iPad Pro, up to 6K at 60Hz or 5K at 120Hz, in its technical specifications. That is a specific connection and display capability, not proof that every desktop-style window arrangement or professional workflow will behave as it does on a computer.
- Try your real workload: open the documents, app combination and number of windows you use, rather than judging by a feature name.
- Check whether your job requires a desktop-only application, a particular plug-in, a managed workplace tool or a specific external display setup.
- Confirm the adapters, drives and file handoffs your workflow needs. Product specifications alone do not establish compatibility with every accessory or service.
What should you know about pen, keyboard and battery?
Samsung says the S Pen is included with the S12. Its Pro Keyboard and Book Cover Keyboard Slim are separate accessories, and Samsung’s FAQ says a device charger is not included; package details may differ by regional listing. Confirm the precise retail box and accessory compatibility for your market on the Samsung product page.

Battery figures are manufacturer estimates using different stated activities, not comparable tests of a professional workday. Samsung claims up to 23 hours of video playback for the S12 Ultra and up to 21 hours for the S12+ in its 2026 U.S. announcement. Apple estimates up to 10 hours of Wi-Fi web use or video playback, and up to 9 hours of cellular web use, on the cited iPad Pro specifications page accessed October 3, 2026. Do not use these figures alone to predict runtime during intensive work.

How should you compare total cost?
Samsung’s U.S. launch starting prices are $1,399.99 for the S12 Ultra and $1,199.99 for the S12+, with stated availability from October 7, 2026. They are starting prices, not a like-for-like quote for a chosen storage or connectivity configuration. The cited Apple technical specifications are not a current price quote.
Before buying, compare the price in your country for the exact storage and connectivity configuration, then add the keyboard, pen if needed, adapters or storage, taxes and recurring app costs. Check whether a promotion is available to you, its expiry and subscription terms, and whether your preferred apps require paid plans. Samsung’s offers vary by region and eligibility; do not count a trial as a lasting reduction in cost.
Which tablet suits which professional workflow?
- Consider the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra if its 14.6-inch canvas, included S Pen, Android app selection, Multi Window and DeX approach fit your work—and you have verified that your required software runs on Android.
- Consider the Galaxy Tab S12+ if you want Samsung’s stated S12 software and included-pen setup in a 12.6-inch display rather than the Ultra’s larger screen. The cited sources do not establish a cross-platform performance advantage for it.
- Consider an 11-inch or 13-inch iPad Pro if your required apps and iPadOS workflow are the better fit, or its Thunderbolt/USB 4 and specified external-display support meet your setup needs. Choose between the listed sizes according to portability and working area.
- Keep a laptop in the workflow if a required specialist application is desktop-only or your organization depends on computer-specific tools. Samsung itself warns that certain specialized software may still require a laptop.
Samsung’s executive Jay Kim described the S12 series as designed for people “constantly exploring new ideas, developing new skills, and bringing their ambitions to life.” That is product positioning, not evidence of a measured advantage over iPad Pro. The available manufacturer information provides no controlled S12-versus-iPad Pro professional-workload benchmark, so a numerical performance winner is not established.
