Yes. You need an active PlayStation Plus membership to play Frog Sqwad online on PS5. The PlayStation Store listing says “PS Plus required for online play,” “Online play required,” and “Supports up to 8 online players with PS Plus.” That makes the requirement explicit: cross-play or playing with friends on other systems does not waive it.
Why does Frog Sqwad require PlayStation Plus?
Frog Sqwad is an online co-op game, and Sony’s PS5 Store listing labels online play as required. It also says PS Plus is required for that online play. The listing is the clearest answer for this specific game, rather than a general assumption about multiplayer games.

Sony’s general rule is that most PS4 and PS5 games need PlayStation Plus for online multiplayer, while some titles do not; Sony advises players to check the PlayStation Store listing. Frog Sqwad falls into the Plus-required category. Because its listing also says “Online play required,” do not assume that you can start the PS5 game offline and use a complete offline campaign instead.
The game launched on PS5 on October 28, 2026. The PlayStation Store identifies Panic Stations LTD as the publisher and lists PS5 as the platform; it does not list a PS4 version. Its feature details also identify DualSense controller vibration support, but the controller feature does not change the online membership requirement.

Which PlayStation Plus plan is enough?
PlayStation Plus Essential is enough for Frog Sqwad online co-op. Sony lists online multiplayer as a benefit across its membership plans, so you do not need Extra or Premium just to join an online lobby.
The plan names depend on region. In the United States, the tiers are Essential, Extra, and Premium; some other regions use Deluxe for the top tier. The US Frog Sqwad listing mentions Premium for cloud streaming, but that is a separate feature from playing an installed digital game on a PS5 you own.

Is Frog Sqwad free to play or included with PlayStation Plus?
No. Frog Sqwad is sold as a paid digital game, and no PlayStation Plus catalog inclusion was identified at its PS5 launch. Treat the game purchase and the membership as separate costs: owning one does not provide the other.
As reported by Push Square on October 28, 2026, the listed price before a launch discount was $7.99 in the United States and £6.49 in the United Kingdom. The same coverage said a 20% launch discount was being applied, but PlayStation Store promotions can differ by region. Check the signed-in Store page for the current price in your country rather than assuming the reported discount applies to your account.

For comparison, Steam showed a $7.99 list price and a 20% reduction to $6.39 in the region checked on October 29, 2026, with that offer ending November 7, 2026. That is a Steam price, not a promise about the PS5 promotion. Steam’s temporary sale also does not remove the PS Plus requirement when playing online on PS5.
The PlayStation Store also lists a Deluxe Edition that includes the base game and a Supporter Pack cosmetic bundle; the Supporter Pack is also listed as a separate $4.99 add-on. Choose based on whether you want those cosmetics, not because the edition changes access to multiplayer. Neither edition substitutes for an active Plus membership.
Can you play Frog Sqwad solo or offline without Plus?
The available PS5 listing does not establish a Plus-free offline solo mode. It says online play is required, so the safest assumption is that you need an internet connection and the required membership to play on PS5. Do not buy the game expecting a confirmed offline campaign.
There is a Practice Mode described as a consequence-free environment for learning how to play. Its existence does not prove that it works offline or without Plus on PS5, and the store’s online-play-required notice still applies. If solo practice is your goal, check the game’s current in-game options or ask the publisher before purchasing rather than treating a practice feature as an offline mode.
The Xbox Store lists both single-player and online co-op, but that platform-specific listing does not demonstrate that PS5 has an offline solo path. Store features can differ by platform; for PS5, rely on the PS5 Store’s stated requirements.

Does cross-play let PS5 players avoid Plus?
No. Cross-play lets a PS5 player join friends on other supported systems, but it does not cancel the PS5 membership requirement. If you are the player on PS5, you still need Plus for Frog Sqwad online even when the rest of the party is on PC or Xbox.
Cross-play arrived with the game’s version 2.0 update on October 28, 2026, alongside the PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 launches. The confirmed platforms that can share a lobby are PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Switch 2. PC players can join across the Steam and Microsoft Store/Xbox app versions as well as the console platforms.
Each console player must meet that console’s own online multiplayer requirement. Nintendo Switch 2 players need Nintendo Switch Online, while Xbox console players need an eligible online multiplayer subscription. Steam PC does not charge a console-style online multiplayer fee. These memberships are platform-specific: a PlayStation Plus subscription does not cover an Xbox or Nintendo account.
Cross-play is not cross-progression. No cross-save or cross-progression between ecosystems has been announced, so do not expect progress to carry between PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and PC accounts. Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox cloud saves remain within Microsoft’s ecosystem.
How do you join friends on another platform?
Use the game’s Host Game or Join Game options and share or enter a lobby code. The announced co-op format supports one host and up to seven friends, for a maximum of eight online players in a lobby.

- Make sure each player has access to the game. Cross-play connects supported platforms; it does not give a friend a copy of the game.
- Check the membership requirement for each console player. The PS5 player needs Plus, and console friends need their platform’s eligible online membership. A PC player on Steam does not need a console multiplayer subscription.
- Have one player choose Host Game. The host creates the online lobby and provides its code to the group.
- Have the remaining players choose Join Game. They enter the lobby code to join across supported platforms.
- Keep the group within the player cap. The host counts toward the eight-player maximum, leaving room for up to seven other players.
The available platform listings do not identify split-screen play. Nintendo’s listing specifies one player per Switch 2 system, with two to eight players online. Plan on each friend joining from their own supported system rather than sharing one console locally.
Can a household share the membership?
PlayStation Plus belongs to an account, but Sony allows selected benefits to be shared on a primary PS4 and one PS5 when Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled. Frog Sqwad’s Store listing says the content can be downloaded and played on the main PS5 associated with the account through that setting, and on other PS5 consoles when signed in with the same account.
Sharing can help household members access eligible benefits, but it does not eliminate the need for an active membership in the household. Follow Sony’s current console-sharing instructions on the account and console you intend to use; do not assume that sharing allows several separate accounts to play online simultaneously without checking the applicable account settings and restrictions.

Does cloud streaming change what membership you need?
No for ordinary play from a PS5 installation: cloud streaming is not required to play a digital copy installed on a PS5 you own. The Store’s “PS5 and PS Portal cloud streaming supported only with Premium subscription” line applies specifically to the cloud-streaming route, not to normal local installation.
If you plan to stream the game rather than install and run it on the console, the listing names Premium for that feature in the US. The Store also states that online features require a PlayStation account and are subject to PlayStation terms of service and applicable privacy policy.

What else changed with the PS5 launch?
Frog Sqwad first launched on Xbox Series consoles and PC on June 11, 2026; PS5 and Switch 2 followed worldwide on October 28. The version 2.0 update released with those later platform launches added 11 rooms: Art Attack, The Garden, Mine Frog Sweeper, Rising Tide, Rise And Fall, Prickle Pipe, Lucky Breaks, Sling Things, Spinning Plates, Splinter Sprinter, and Slime Climb. The update also announced a Cult of the Lamb collaboration hat, but its unlock method was not specified.
The game is a cooperative extraction puzzle-platformer from Panic Stations, a studio founded by former Mediatonic staff. Its online design includes ping communication for marking points of interest without voice or text, as well as proximity voice chat with animated frog mouths. Those options affect how a group communicates, not the PS5 membership requirement.
For PC players considering a different platform, Steam lists minimum requirements of Windows 10, 8 GB RAM, a GTX 1060 or RX 580 graphics card, 2 GB of storage, and broadband internet. Those are the Steam PC requirements, not a requirement checklist for PS5. A Panic Stations post on July 2, 2026, said 300,000 players had played Frog Sqwad by that date; that player count is a studio-reported figure, not a measure of PS5 sales or current concurrent players.

Can I use Share Play to invite a friend who does not own Frog Sqwad?
Sony’s Share Play feature can let a Plus subscriber invite a friend to watch or participate without that friend owning the game. Share Play still operates under PlayStation Plus rules, so it is not a way for the host to play online without the required membership.
Could a PlayStation free-multiplayer weekend remove the requirement?
Sony has occasionally run limited online-multiplayer weekends, including one on September 21–22, 2024. No Frog Sqwad-specific or active free-multiplayer window was identified as of October 29, 2026, so check Sony’s announcements if you are relying on a temporary exception.
Does Frog Sqwad work on PS Portal without a PS5?
The Store listing’s Premium-only cloud-streaming note refers to streaming support on PS5 and PS Portal. It does not establish that every account or region can stream the title, so check the current PlayStation Store and cloud-streaming availability for your location.
Can I use one PS5 account on a different console to play?
