There is not enough comparable evidence to name five providers as the best Drupal hosts for speed, security, and scalability. The available documentation supports evaluating Pantheon and Acquia as Drupal-focused managed platforms, Upsun (formerly Platform.sh) as a potential fit for teams comfortable with Git-based workflows, and SiteGround as a candidate whose current compatibility needs checking. Cloudways is a fifth name to investigate, not a verified recommendation: no Cloudways-specific primary documentation was established here. None of the available material independently ranks provider speed, security, or capacity.
Use the comparison below as a shortlist, then verify each candidate against your Drupal release, workload, support needs, and budget before committing.

Can these five providers be called the best Drupal hosts?
No. The available evidence does not provide equivalent independent speed or security tests, current plan prices, or comparable support and infrastructure specifications. A ranked “best” list would suggest a level of proof that is not available. Instead, these are five providers to investigate, with the evidence and limitations made explicit.
A hosting platform can affect how much work your team does to deploy, restore, monitor, and secure a Drupal site. But a feature description is not a performance benchmark, and a vendor’s security language is not a substitute for reviewing the controls and responsibilities in the plan you would buy.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
There is also no verified, apples-to-apples uptime, latency, throughput, recovery-time, or security score across these candidates. A provider can be a strong fit for one Drupal installation and a poor fit for another because of traffic geography, editorial workflow, integration requirements, compliance obligations, or the amount of operational work your team can handle.
Which Drupal hosting providers belong on a shortlist?
The table distinguishes what the available sources establish from what still needs confirmation. The descriptions are not equivalent test results or endorsements.
| Provider | What the available evidence says | What to verify before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Pantheon | Pantheon documents Dev, Test, and Live environments, version control, automated backups, and managed infrastructure. Its FAQ says Drupal 7+ sites are supported and that development is free until a site is live and receiving traffic. The FAQ was last reviewed 31 July 2026. | Confirm current plan eligibility and which features are included. Check the current Drupal release and stack compatibility, recovery terms, support scope, and total cost. |
| Acquia | Acquia describes Cloud Platform as managed Drupal hosting and markets performance, security, scaling, caching, and enterprise capabilities. Drupal.org’s hosting directory also features Acquia Cloud. | Ask for current plan, support, security-responsibility, and scaling details for your workload. Acquia’s product claims are not independent comparative test results. |
| Upsun (formerly Platform.sh) | A Pantheon-authored comparison describes Upsun as Git-driven and containerized, with preview environments and support for multi-technology deployments. | Confirm the current product name, architecture, features, Drupal support, and prices directly with Upsun. The description comes from a competitor-authored comparison and may have aged. |
| SiteGround | SiteGround says its servers support Drupal in a requirements article. Drupal.org’s older enterprise hosting directory includes a SiteGround listing. | Confirm current PHP and database versions, product type, plan limits, and support scope. The older requirements article does not establish compatibility with current Drupal releases. |
| Cloudways | No Cloudways-specific primary documentation establishing current Drupal support, plans, features, or support terms was available for this comparison. | Verify Drupal support and all relevant plan details directly before treating it as a candidate. Its inclusion here is an investigation lead, not a recommendation. |
When is Pantheon worth evaluating?
Pantheon is a reasonable candidate to examine if your team values separate development, test, and live environments and wants version-control and backup features described as part of its platform. Those are provider-documented capabilities, not proof that Pantheon will be faster or safer than another host for your specific site.
Pantheon’s FAQ also describes site creation in the US, Australia, Canada, and the EU. It mentions a content-delivery network and points of presence, but those references do not provide a comparable latency or throughput measurement. Treat the region and network information as provider statements to reconfirm for the plan and current availability you need. A region list alone does not establish latency, data-residency suitability, or the location of every service component.
Ask how Pantheon’s Dev, Test, and Live workflow maps to your release process. Clarify whether database synchronization, configuration management, branch handling, and rollback procedures work the way your team expects. Confirm how long automated backups are retained, how a restore is initiated, and whether restoring a site affects traffic or incurs a charge. The FAQ’s Drupal 7+ wording should also be checked against the exact core release and PHP version you intend to run.
When is Acquia worth evaluating?
Acquia is positioned specifically around managed Drupal hosting, making it a candidate to assess for Drupal-focused operations or enterprise requirements. Its Cloud Platform materials discuss performance, security, scaling, caching, and enterprise capabilities. Those are Acquia’s own descriptions, not independently measured outcomes.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Ask Acquia to map each statement to a named plan. “Scaling” might mean a documented process for increasing resources, an architecture that supports multiple application instances, or an optional service; you need to know which applies to your site and what it costs. Likewise, determine whether caching is configured for you, whether a CDN is included, and which cache invalidation tasks remain with your team.

Drupal.org’s hosting directory includes Acquia Cloud, which is useful confirmation that Acquia is recognized in the Drupal hosting ecosystem. It does not replace a current technical and commercial review. Request support hours, escalation paths, security documentation, backup retention, recovery targets, available regions, and any compliance scope relevant to your organization.
When might Upsun suit a development team?
The available description points toward a Git-driven, containerized platform with preview environments and multi-technology deployments. That may be relevant to teams already comfortable managing application configuration through code, reviewing changes in version control, and creating temporary environments for testing.
The description comes from a Pantheon comparison, not current Upsun documentation. Confirm the present product name, service architecture, supported Drupal versions, deployment commands, storage model, environment limits, and pricing directly with Upsun. Ask whether preview environments are isolated, whether they count toward billing, and how production data is protected when used for testing. A workflow that suits a developer-led team may create unnecessary complexity for an organization seeking a conventional control panel and provider-managed changes.
What should you make of SiteGround’s Drupal support?
The sources indicate that SiteGround has offered servers supporting Drupal and has appeared in an older Drupal.org hosting directory. Its requirements article contains older software-version baselines, so it cannot establish compatibility with current Drupal releases. Treat it as a conventional hosting candidate to qualify, not as a verified current-release match.
Ask SiteGround for the exact PHP and database versions available on the plan, whether you can select versions per environment, and how quickly end-of-life versions are removed. Confirm whether the product is shared, virtualized, or managed in a way that matches your traffic and operational needs. Also ask what Drupal-specific help support staff provide, rather than assuming generic web-hosting support includes application troubleshooting.
Should Cloudways be on your shortlist?
Only as a provider to investigate independently. The available evidence does not establish current Drupal support, service features, or support terms, so this comparison cannot responsibly recommend it or describe its present offer. Before considering Cloudways alongside the other candidates, obtain a current provider page or written plan response covering Drupal release support, PHP and database versions, backups, regions, support channels, migration assistance, and resource limits.
What Drupal requirements should you check first?
Start with the exact Drupal release you will run, not a provider’s generic statement that it supports “Drupal.” Drupal requirements vary by release. The Drupal User Guide’s “3.2. Concept: Server Requirements” page, last updated 14 April 2025, lists PHP 8.3 or a higher PHP 8 version, a minimum PHP memory setting of 64 MB, Apache or Nginx, and supported database versions. Those are details from that dated guide, not a promise that they cover every current release; verify the requirements page for your target release before purchase or migration.

Ask the provider to confirm the needed versions and settings in writing for the specific plan. A server may support PHP in general while lacking the version, memory configuration, database version, or web-server setup your site requires. Also confirm whether you can select or change versions yourself, whether changes are available in every environment, and how the provider handles end-of-life software.
Check extensions and operational services as well as headline versions. Your site may depend on scheduled jobs, image processing, search services, a mail relay, or external APIs. Ask whether cron frequency, outbound mail, database connections, file storage, and command-line access are restricted. These details are site-specific requirements, so document them before comparing plans.
How should you compare speed, security, and scalability?
Compare the service against your site’s actual requirements, and request evidence that is specific to the plan. Marketing descriptions can help identify capabilities to ask about, but they do not establish comparative outcomes.
Speed and traffic handling
- Ask what caching and CDN features are included, what you must configure, and whether any usage limits apply.
- Describe your expected traffic patterns, not just an average monthly visitor count. Ask how the plan handles bursts and what happens if usage exceeds its limits.
- Request performance evidence for a workload resembling your Drupal site, including the test conditions and plan used. No comparable provider benchmark is established in the available material.
- Check where your application can run and whether the available regions meet your audience’s needs. A list of locations does not by itself prove faster delivery.
- Test cache behavior with authenticated users, uncached pages, search, forms, and editorial actions. A fast anonymous homepage does not represent every Drupal request.
- Ask whether background jobs, imports, image derivatives, or search indexing share resources with web traffic. Resource contention can matter more than a promotional speed claim.
Security and responsibility
- Ask which security tasks the provider performs and which remain yours, including operating-system and PHP maintenance, Drupal core and module updates, access control, monitoring, and incident response.
- Request current documentation for security controls and any compliance scope relevant to your organization. Do not infer compliance from a general claim of enterprise readiness.
- Clarify how vulnerabilities are reported, who receives alerts, what support channel handles incidents, and what response commitments apply to your plan.
- For sensitive or regulated information, have the provider explain the shared-responsibility boundary and the scope of its documentation before storing production data.
- Confirm administrative access controls, multifactor authentication options, audit logs, credential rotation, and the process for removing former staff or contractors.
- Ask how backups are protected from unauthorized access and whether a compromised account could delete both production data and its backups.
Scalability and recovery
- Ask what resource limits apply to the proposed plan and what the process is for increasing capacity. Get any cost changes in writing.
- Confirm backup frequency, retention, what is included in a backup, restoration steps, and whether restores carry fees or downtime.
- Request the practical recovery procedure for a failed deployment or damaged database, and establish who can initiate a restore.
- Check whether preview or test environments count toward plan limits and whether they can use production-like data safely.
- Ask how scaling affects IP addresses, DNS, cache warming, queues, scheduled jobs, and third-party integrations. A capacity increase can require coordinated changes outside the web tier.
- Run a restoration exercise before launch. A backup that has never been restored is an assumption, not a tested recovery capability.
How do environments and deployments affect daily work?
Environment design is one of the most practical differences between providers. Pantheon explicitly documents Dev, Test, and Live environments; other providers may offer staging, preview, or branch environments under different names and limits. Ask what each environment contains, how code moves between them, and whether databases and uploaded files can be synchronized safely.

If your team uses continuous integration, confirm available Git integration, build hooks, command-line tools, secrets management, and deployment logs. If your team prefers a graphical workflow, confirm that the provider’s interface supports the approvals and audit trail you need.
Preview environments can reduce risk by allowing editors and stakeholders to review changes before release, but they may increase storage, build, or environment charges. Never copy personal or regulated production data into a preview environment without understanding access controls, retention, and data deletion procedures.
What should you ask before signing up?
Use the same questions with each provider so that differences in sales language do not obscure differences in service. Ask for answers tied to a named plan and your target Drupal release.

How do you compare the total cost fairly?
No comparable current plan prices are established for these providers, so an entry price would be misleading. Request a quote or plan breakdown for the same site requirements and compare the expected total, not a headline monthly figure.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Ask whether prices recur monthly or annually, whether usage can create overages, and what happens to billing if you scale up or down. Do not assume a feature mentioned on a product page is included in every plan.
Price the same scenario for every candidate: the same Drupal release, number of environments, storage volume, traffic pattern, backup retention, support hours, regions, and migration assistance. Record one-time setup charges separately from recurring fees. If a provider will not quote a limit or overage policy clearly, treat that uncertainty as a cost risk rather than assuming the cheapest outcome.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What evidence is still missing?
A responsible comparison would need current plan pages or written quotes for all candidates, equivalent support and security documentation, and independent tests using comparable Drupal workloads. That information is not established here. There is also no verified affiliate commission, cookie duration, or tracked-link term for any provider, so commercial relationships should be confirmed before adding referral links and disclosed where required.
Do not turn missing evidence into a ranking statistic. A claimed region count, CDN presence, or enterprise label may be useful prompts for questions, but none proves that one provider is faster, safer, or more scalable than another for your site.

Use a short qualification process rather than selecting a winner from generic claims. A provider that cannot confirm release compatibility or explain recovery and support clearly is not yet a safe choice for production, regardless of its headline positioning.
- Write down the workload: Record the Drupal release, required PHP and database versions, traffic expectations, storage, environments, audience geography, and any compliance constraints.
- Remove incompatible plans: Get written confirmation that the exact plan meets the stack requirements for the target release.
- Test the operating workflow: Determine how your team will deploy code, test changes, restore a backup, and reach support before going live.
- Compare responsibility and recovery: Make sure ownership of updates, security response, backups, and incident handling is explicit.
- Price the real configuration: Compare total costs for the same workload and support coverage, including potential limits and add-ons.
- Verify vendor claims: Recheck current product documentation and plan terms, especially for Upsun and SiteGround, where the available supporting material has qualifications, and for Cloudways, where current provider-specific evidence is absent here.
- Run a pilot: Move a copy or low-risk site first, test deployments and restores, and measure the workflows that matter before scheduling a production cutover.
Choose the provider whose documented plan fits your operational needs and whose limits, responsibilities, and recovery process you understand. The available evidence can help create a shortlist, but it cannot establish an objective fastest, most secure, or best overall host.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I move a Drupal site to a new host without changing its domain?
Usually, hosting migration and domain ownership are separate: a site can keep the same domain while its files and database move to another provider. The cutover still needs a tested copy, a rollback plan, and careful DNS coordination; ask the destination host what migration help it actually provides.
How can I test a Drupal host before moving my live site?
Use a nonproduction environment to test the site’s critical paths with representative content: login, search, forms, editorial workflows, and any integrations. Confirm that cache behavior, scheduled tasks, and backups work there before scheduling a production cutover.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesDoes managed Drupal hosting mean I no longer need to update Drupal?
No. “Managed” can refer to infrastructure and platform operations, while application-level tasks such as Drupal core, contributed modules, configuration, and access management may remain with your team. Get the provider’s responsibility breakdown for the exact plan rather than inferring it from the product label.
Which Drupal version should I use when comparing hosts?
Use the exact release you plan to run and check its current Drupal.org requirements. The User Guide page updated 14 April 2025 lists PHP 8.3 or a higher PHP 8 version, at least 64 MB of PHP memory, Apache or Nginx, and supported database versions, but requirements can change by release.
Are Pantheon’s regions proof that it will be fastest for my audience?
No. Pantheon’s FAQ describes site creation in the US, Australia, Canada, and the EU and mentions CDN points of presence, but a location list is not an independent latency or throughput test. Confirm the exact plan, service components, and performance for your audience.
What should I do if a host advertises enterprise security?
Request current security-control and compliance documentation, then identify the shared-responsibility boundary. Ask who handles operating-system, PHP, Drupal, and module updates; access control; monitoring; incident response; and backup protection. Do not treat a broad enterprise label as proof of compliance.
Is a low introductory hosting price enough to choose a provider?
No. Compare the full configuration: environments, storage, traffic, backups, support, migration, caching or CDN charges, overages, and scaling costs. Request a plan-specific total and record renewal or usage-based charges before deciding.
Should I use Cloudways for Drupal?
The material here does not verify current Cloudways Drupal support, plans, features, or support terms. Treat Cloudways as a lead for independent checking and obtain current provider documentation before making it part of a production shortlist.
The Bottom Line
Pantheon and Acquia have the clearest Drupal-focused documentation in this comparison; Upsun may fit Git-oriented teams, while SiteGround requires current compatibility checks. Cloudways remains unverified. Compare exact Drupal support, environments, backups, security responsibilities, regions, support, recovery, and total cost instead of relying on a “best” ranking.
