FlatOut 4: Total Insanity VR is a finished 1.0 release on Steam for PC VR, launched October 23, 2026 at $29.99. Its biggest additions are passenger-seat multiplayer spectating, optional FlatOut 2 handling and AI, remastered FlatOut 2 content, first-person driver ejections, broader wheel and haptic support, and built-in livery tools. It remains a VR-only PC game: Quest owners need a gaming PC and streaming software, while a PlayStation VR2 version is still in development without a announced release date.
What changed in FlatOut 4 VR version 1.0?
The 1.0 update moves FlatOut 4: Total Insanity VR out of Steam Early Access and adds features aimed at both multiplayer groups and longtime FlatOut 2 players. Flat2VR Studios announced the release on October 23, 2026, stating: “FlatOut 4: Total Insanity VR has officially exited Steam Early Access and is available now in version 1.0 for $29.99 USD.” Steam lists the same release date, price and VR-only PC requirement.

How multiplayer sessions handle empty or disconnected players
AI can fill vacant grid positions, so a race can continue when fewer human drivers are available. Automatic host migration is intended to keep a session alive if the original host disconnects. These features improve continuity, but they do not indicate how many people are currently playing or guarantee a full human grid.
Does FlatOut 4 VR have FlatOut 2 physics?
It does, but the classic handling is an option rather than the default. The updated FlatOut 4 AI remains selected by default; players can switch to FlatOut 2 physics and AI when they want the older style of vehicle behavior and opponents.

What VR headsets and platforms support the game?
The current release is sold through Steam as a VR-only PC title. You need a gaming PC capable of running SteamVR-compatible hardware and a PC VR headset; it is not a standalone Quest application.
What does Quest support mean?
Quest owners can stream the PC version with Steam Link over a suitable network and gaming PC. Streaming does not install or run FlatOut 4 natively on the headset, so image quality, responsiveness and comfort depend on the PC and network setup.
Is FlatOut 4 VR coming to PlayStation VR2?

What wheels and haptic devices work with FlatOut 4 VR?
Version 1.0 broadens steering-wheel compatibility and adds bHaptics and motion-rig telemetry support. The release materials do not provide a complete, model-by-model compatibility table, so check your wheel, pedals and any adapter against current developer or Steam documentation before buying.

Are custom tracks available?
Not yet. Track-creation tools are planned for a later update and should not be counted as part of the finished 1.0 feature set. Likewise, an experimental multiplayer weapons mode and motorcycle balancing work are future or ongoing items rather than guaranteed launch features.
Is the full release worth $29.99?
At the current Steam price, the strongest case is for VR racing groups and FlatOut 2 fans. Passenger spectating, AI-filled grids and host migration address common multiplayer downtime, while optional classic physics, remastered tracks and the returning GT add a distinct retro-handling choice.
The value is less clear if you need standalone Quest support, a specific wheel that has not been verified, or a large public player base. Steam reported 86% positive from 438 all-time user reviews on October 28, 2026; that live figure can change and is not a performance benchmark or a guarantee of multiplayer activity.

Does FlatOut 4 VR support solo racing without other players?
Yes. The game can populate empty grid positions with AI, so you do not need a full group to start a race. The default opponents use the updated FlatOut 4 AI unless you select the optional FlatOut 2 AI.
Will Steam Link make FlatOut 4 VR run directly on my Quest headset?
No. Steam Link streams the PC build to Quest; the game still runs on a compatible gaming PC. A standalone Quest edition has not been announced in the available release information.
