Finding Green Card Sponsors: A Practical PERM Search Guide

To find employers with a history of sponsoring employment-based green cards, start with the U.S. Department of Labor’s PERM disclosure files, then check whether each employer has a relevant opening and currently sponsors that particular role. PERM records show past labor-certification determinations; they do not promise sponsorship to a new applicant. An employer’s temporary-work visa filings, a live job vacancy, and your own visa availability are separate questions.

The latest release covered here is the Department of Labor’s FY2026 Q3 PERM disclosure, with determinations dated October 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. Use the method below to turn that historical data into a focused employer shortlist—not a supposed list of guaranteed sponsors.

How do I find companies that sponsor green cards?

Use the Department of Labor’s Office of Foreign Labor Certification (OFLC) PERM disclosure data to identify employers with past permanent labor-certification activity, then verify the current role and sponsorship policy directly with the employer. The PERM program page explains the process, while the Performance Data page provides the quarterly files and record layouts.

  1. Open the official data page. Go to DOL OFLC Performance Data. Under “Latest Quarterly Updates,” select the FY2026 Q3 PERM disclosure spreadsheet and its accompanying record layout. Check that a newer release has not replaced it when you do your search.
  2. Read the record layout before filtering. Use it to identify what each column means, including employer, job or occupation, location, and determination information where those fields appear. Do not infer a field’s meaning from its label alone.
  3. Filter for your occupation and geography. Search for records that resemble the work you do and the places where you can accept a job. Compare the job information and worksite or hiring geography—not just an employer name that appears somewhere in the file.
  4. Check the determination and remove duplicates carefully. Review case results and employer names, and avoid counting repeated records as separate employers. DOL cautions that employer-submitted data may contain errors, some information is withheld, undecided cases may be absent, and a small share of determinations can change after an appeal or redetermination.
  5. Build a shortlist, not a yes-or-no list. Note how closely the record matches your occupation and location, how recent the relevant PERM history is, and what the determination says. Treat those details as leads, not a DOL endorsement or a prediction that the employer will sponsor you.
  6. Check current hiring and policy. Look at the employer’s careers page and the specific job description. Ask the recruiter or immigration team whether the role qualifies for the company’s employment-based permanent-residence sponsorship process, when eligibility is considered, and who handles immigration questions.
  7. Check visa availability separately. Once you understand a role and the employer’s policy, consult the current State Department Visa Bulletin for the relevant preference category and chargeability area. If considering adjustment of status, check USCIS’s current instructions to see which filing chart applies.

As of October 30, 2026, the latest DOL PERM release identified here is FY2026 Q3, covering determinations from October 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. That is a defined period of determinations, not a complete list of cases submitted, all employers currently hiring, or current sponsorship commitments.

What should go in a useful shortlist?

Track enough information to decide which employer to investigate next. A spreadsheet can include employer name as shown in the record, occupation or job information, worksite or geography, determination and date, source-file name, live job link you found yourself, and the result of your direct sponsorship inquiry. Keep the historical record separate from your notes about current vacancies and policy so the former cannot be mistaken for proof of the latter.

Prioritize matches by relevance rather than raw volume. A record for a different occupation or distant worksite may be less useful than a smaller number of recent records closely aligned with your work and target location. This is a practical way to organize public case information; DOL does not publish a predictive sponsorship score.

How should I compare employers in the file?

Use consistent comparison columns rather than ranking companies by the number of rows. First compare the occupation and duties with your actual background. Then compare the recorded worksite with the location you can accept, including whether the employer’s current posting names a different office or a remote arrangement. Add the determination date and result, because a recent, clearly interpreted record gives you a more useful conversation starter than an old or ambiguous entry. Finally, record the date and wording of the employer’s answer about the particular opening.

Legal names and subsidiaries may appear differently across records. Preserve the name exactly as displayed, then add a separate note if a careers page uses a parent or trade name. Do not merge entities merely because they share branding, and do not assume that a case for one subsidiary applies to another. Deduplicate repeated rows only after checking the case identifiers and fields in the record layout; otherwise you may erase distinct worksite or occupation records.

Save the quarter and download date with your spreadsheet. A later quarterly release may add, revise, or remove information. Keeping the original file and a link to DOL’s page lets you explain why your shortlist changed without presenting an old snapshot as current policy.

What does PERM data prove—and what does it not prove?

A PERM determination is evidence of activity in the permanent labor-certification process, not evidence that an employer will sponsor every candidate or that a green card was ultimately granted. Keep four separate checks in view: past PERM activity, temporary-program LCA activity, an open job and present sponsorship policy, and your own visa category and availability.

Evidence What it can tell you What it cannot establish by itself
PERM disclosure record Historical employer labor-certification determination activity, with case details defined by DOL’s record layout. Current vacancies, a standing commitment to sponsor, or an approved green card for a particular worker.
Labor Condition Application (LCA) Activity connected to temporary H-1B, H-1B1, or E-3 employment. A PERM filing, an immigrant petition, permanent-residence sponsorship, or an available job.
Current job posting or employer response Whether a role is being advertised and what the employer says about sponsorship for it now. Visa availability or a guarantee that a particular worker will qualify for a green card.
Visa Bulletin and applicable filing instructions How immigrant-visa availability is organized by preference category and chargeability area, and which filing chart USCIS currently says to use. A guarantee of an individual’s timing or eligibility based only on the employer’s history.

DOL describes PERM as the permanent labor-certification route. For a typical PERM case, the employer establishes a qualifying U.S. employer identity and work location, a permanent full-time opportunity, a prevailing wage, and applicable recruitment and notice steps before filing. DOL says certified labor certification normally precedes the employer’s USCIS immigration petition. The word “normally” matters: not every employment-based immigrant case necessarily follows PERM, and this guide does not attempt to catalog category-specific exceptions.

DOL’s guidance also makes clear that the job requirements are employer- and role-specific: “The employer must determine the actual minimum requirements and job duties for the job opportunity.” A record for one role therefore should not be read as a promise that a different role—or a future applicant—will be sponsored.

What does an employer have to do in a typical PERM case?

The employer, rather than the applicant, drives the labor-certification filing. It must identify the real permanent, full-time opportunity and its U.S. work location, determine the actual minimum requirements and duties, obtain a prevailing-wage determination, complete the applicable pre-filing recruitment and notice steps, and submit the PERM application. DOL describes certified labor certification as normally preceding the employer’s petition to USCIS. Those obligations explain why a company may have sponsored one carefully defined position but decline to sponsor another that looks similar on a résumé.

This sequence also explains why a PERM row is not a job advertisement. The disclosure reflects a determination in a government labor-certification process; it does not show that the same opening remains vacant, that the employer will repeat the process, or that an applicant has been selected. Ask about the employer’s current process instead of trying to infer a commitment from the filing alone.

Does an H-1B sponsor also sponsor a green card?

Not necessarily. H-1B sponsorship is temporary nonimmigrant employment; PERM is a permanent labor-certification process. An employer’s H-1B-related records can suggest that it has handled some immigration-related hiring, but they do not show that it filed PERM for a particular role or will sponsor permanent residence.

DOL’s LCA program covers H-1B, H-1B1, and E-3 temporary employment. Its LCA program information and LCA disclosure files should not be relabeled as a list of green-card sponsors. For example, DOL’s FY2026 Q3 LCA statistics report 409,668 certified LCA applications through June 30, 2026. That is a count of certified applications in a temporary-program dataset—not a count of green cards, workers, PERM cases, or employers willing to sponsor permanent residence.

The same table names employers such as Amazon.com Services LLC and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. Those names illustrate participation in the temporary LCA program only. They do not verify a current permanent-sponsorship policy, a qualifying vacancy, or a PERM case for the job you want. You may use LCA records as secondary leads if you want to identify employers with temporary visa activity, but return to PERM records for historical permanent labor-certification evidence. Then ask about the actual position you are pursuing. Neither dataset answers the employer-policy question for you.

How can I tell whether an employer has filed relevant PERM cases?

Use the case details and record layout, not just a search result for the company name. A useful record is one that aligns with the work and location you are targeting, has a result you can interpret, and is recent enough to justify checking the employer’s current policy.

Match occupation and job information

Compare the recorded occupation and job information with the work you are qualified to do. Job titles can differ even when the underlying work is similar, so inspect the available fields and their definitions rather than relying on a title-only search. Conversely, a familiar employer name is not meaningful evidence if the disclosed roles have little connection to your occupation.

Match the relevant location

Pay attention to the worksite or geography recorded for the case and compare it with your target area. An employer may operate in many locations; a case tied to one location does not establish that a different office or remote role has the same policy. Use the public record to narrow your search, then confirm location and role details on the live posting or with the employer.

Interpret recency and determination cautiously

Newer relevant records may be more useful as a reason to ask about current practice than much older records, but age alone does not establish that sponsorship is still offered. Check the case result and use the record layout to understand it. Do not assume that a case was approved simply because it appears in a disclosure file, or that an absent record proves an employer never sponsors.

DOL warns that employer-submitted data can contain errors and that some information is withheld. It also says, “A small percentage of determinations may be subject to change in subsequent quarterly releases due to appeal or redetermination decisions on employer applications.” A quarterly file is therefore a useful public snapshot, not an infallible real-time employer directory.

What common search mistakes should I avoid?

  • Copying a static “sponsor list.” A list without a quarter, occupation, worksite, and result hides whether the entries are relevant or current.
  • Treating an absent row as proof of no sponsorship. Undecided cases may be absent, some information is withheld, and employer-submitted data can contain errors.
  • Counting every row as a separate employer. Repeated or related cases can inflate apparent volume; inspect identifiers and legal names before deduplicating.
  • Assuming a parent company covers every affiliate. Verify the entity named in the job posting and ask which employer would actually employ and sponsor you.
  • Using a remote job as a location match automatically. Confirm the worksite and any location requirements for the specific opening.
  • Confusing a certified LCA with PERM. LCA evidence concerns temporary programs and cannot establish permanent-residence sponsorship.
  • Quoting another applicant’s timeline. Category, chargeability area, filing dates, and agency instructions differ; check the current official bulletin for your circumstances.

How do I confirm sponsorship for a specific job?

Ask about the job you are applying for, not just whether the company has ever sponsored someone. An employer’s policy can depend on the position and its own eligibility rules, so a general statement about the company may not answer your question.

  1. Read the posting for language about immigration sponsorship, work authorization, and job location. If the language is unclear, do not treat silence as confirmation either way.
  2. Ask the recruiter or hiring contact: “Does this role qualify for your employment-based permanent-residence sponsorship process?”
  3. Ask when eligibility is considered and who handles immigration questions. These are screening questions; the employer must provide the answer for its own role and policy.
  4. Keep the response tied to the opening and date you asked. If the role, location, or hiring stage changes, reconfirm rather than relying on an older answer.
  5. Separate an employer’s willingness to sponsor from your case timeline. For category, chargeability, or filing questions, consult the current official guidance or a qualified immigration professional.

A recruiter’s answer about a company process is not a visa decision. The employment-based route, the employer’s steps, the applicant’s eligibility, and visa availability are related but distinct parts of the process.

How do visa category and chargeability affect the search?

Finding an employer willing to sponsor is only one part of an employment-based green-card plan. Visa Bulletin availability is organized by preference category and chargeability area, so there is no single wait estimate that applies to every reader.

The State Department’s October 2026 Visa Bulletin states a worldwide annual level of at least 140,000 employment-based preference immigrant visas. That statutory worldwide figure is not a forecast of how many visas will be available to a particular person; the bulletin separates availability by category and chargeability area. As of October 30, 2026, October 2026 is the current bulletin and November 2026 is listed as upcoming on the Visa Bulletin page.

After identifying a potential sponsor, check the bulletin for the applicable preference category and chargeability area rather than applying another person’s timeline to your case. If you are considering filing for adjustment of status, consult USCIS’s current chart instructions for the relevant month; the State Department bulletin alone does not tell you which chart USCIS permits for that filing.

What is the most reliable way to use sponsor data?

Treat public records as a screening tool, then verify what matters for your application. The strongest practical conclusion from a PERM record is that it gives you a reason to investigate a relevant employer—not that the employer is hiring, will sponsor your role, or can provide an immediate path to a visa.

  1. Use the latest DOL PERM disclosure file and its record layout.
  2. Look for occupation and location matches, and inspect the determination information.
  3. Use LCA history only as evidence of temporary-program activity.
  4. Confirm the current opening and permanent-residence policy with the employer.
  5. Check visa availability and filing instructions separately for your category and chargeability area.

This approach is more dependable than copying a static company list because it distinguishes historical government records from current hiring and individual visa availability. DOL’s official starting points are its PERM guidance and quarterly performance data.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the 140,000 employment-based visa figure mean 140,000 visas are available in every category?

No. The State Department describes it as a worldwide annual level for employment-based preference immigrant visas. The Visa Bulletin allocates availability across preference categories and chargeability areas, so the figure is not an individual estimate.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can an immigration attorney tell me whether I qualify for a specific employment-based category?

A qualified immigration attorney can assess case-specific eligibility and explain how the relevant category and visa availability apply to your circumstances. Employer records alone do not decide those questions.

Why might an employer’s PERM information differ between quarterly files?

DOL says a small percentage of determinations may change in later releases because of appeals or redeterminations. Employer-submitted errors and withheld information can also affect what a reader sees in a disclosure file.

Is a PERM certification the same thing as a green card approval?

No. PERM is the labor-certification stage in a typical employment-based process. A determination does not by itself establish an approved immigrant petition, visa availability, or permanent residence.

Does having no PERM row mean an employer never sponsors?

No. Undecided cases may be absent, some information is withheld, data can contain errors, and the available file covers a defined period of determinations. Ask the employer about its current policy instead of treating a missing row as a definitive answer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I contact an employer listed only in the LCA data?

You may use LCA history as a secondary lead for temporary-program immigration activity, but it is not proof of green-card sponsorship. Check PERM evidence and ask about the specific job and policy.

What should I ask a recruiter about sponsorship?

Ask whether the particular role qualifies for the employer’s employment-based permanent-residence sponsorship process, when eligibility is considered, and who handles immigration questions. Keep the answer tied to the role, location, and date.

The Bottom Line

Start with the latest DOL PERM disclosure, match records to your occupation and location, and use the results to build a shortlist. Then verify the live opening and sponsorship policy with the employer, treat LCA history only as temporary-program evidence, and check Visa Bulletin availability separately for your category and chargeability area.
