EXODUS is an upcoming single-player, third-person science-fiction action-adventure RPG from Archetype Entertainment and Wizards of the Coast. Its defining idea is relativistic time dilation: Jun Aslan can spend days or weeks travelling near light speed while years, decades or more pass for people who stay behind. Every mission therefore carries a social cost as well as combat risk. The official listing currently gives April 7, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Because the game is unreleased, announced and demonstrated systems must be separated from features the developers have only promised to explain later.

The game combines real-time, third-person combat with exploration, crew management and consequential decisions. Jun can recruit human and Awakened companions, investigate dangerous facilities, and search for Celestial Remnants while humanity faces the Rot, a Celestial virus described in the 2026 gameplay announcement as an extinction-level threat.
The central hook is not simply that space travel is dangerous. It is that returning home can be as disruptive as leaving. When does EXODUS release, and on which platforms?
The official FAQ currently lists April 7, 2027 as the launch date. The announced platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Release plans can change before launch, so treat the official EXODUS website as the authoritative source for updates.
EXODUS is presented as a single-player experience. Public material does not describe a persistent multiplayer universe, cooperative campaign or competitive mode. The focus is Jun’s authored journey, the crew travelling with Jun and the consequences that unfold between missions.
How does EXODUS’s time-dilation story work?
Time dilation is the setting’s physical rule and a narrative system, not a temporary power. As a Traveler approaches the speed of light, less time elapses for the Traveler than for observers elsewhere in the galaxy. Jun may experience days or weeks while people who remain behind experience years or decades.
The official time-dilation Q&A gives a concrete example: a round trip to a star system three light-years away can represent about six years for those left behind, even if only a few days pass for the Traveler. The exact outcome depends on the planned route and speed, but the important point is that the cost can be estimated before departure. Jun is not surprised by a magical time jump; the crew can knowingly decide whether a mission is worth the years it will consume for everyone else.
The rule cannot be switched off, cancelled with equipment or bypassed through a gameplay ability according to the official Q&A. That limitation distinguishes EXODUS from a conventional branching RPG in which consequences are mostly dialogue flags. A decision can still branch a story, but elapsed time determines which communities, relationships and political structures are present when Jun returns.
Why is the universe’s history different from a normal space-colonization story?
Humanity leaves a dying Earth aboard ark ships in the 23rd century. Some ships eventually reach the Centauri Cluster and transmit the Green Signal, inviting the remaining diaspora to follow. Because the journeys occur close to light speed, the people who sent that signal can experience tens of thousands of years while early voyagers are still travelling toward the cluster.

That asynchronous history means the setting is not a single human civilization spreading outward at one shared pace. Different human-descended populations have had radically different amounts of time to adapt, evolve and build societies. Some may be culturally recognizable to Jun; others can be separated by millennia of development.
The Celestials represent the setting’s most advanced human-descended powers. Their technology is the source of the Celestial Remnants that Travelers seek, and their legacy provides both opportunity and danger. Recovering a Remnant is therefore not the same as collecting an ordinary upgrade: it can expose Jun to knowledge, factions and biological threats that predate the current human diaspora.
Who is Jun Aslan, and what is the Rot?
Jun Aslan begins as a scrappy salvager and becomes the leader of a crew operating across the Centauri Cluster. Jun’s work involves entering the remains of fallen civilizations, extracting valuable technology and deciding what to do with discoveries that may affect every human settlement.
The Rot is the immediate existential threat. The 2026 gameplay announcement describes it as a Celestial virus driving humanity toward extinction. Public demonstrations show Jun confronting hostile forces and making urgent decisions under pressure, but they do not yet provide a complete account of the Rot’s origin, transmission or cure. Those details should be treated as story questions rather than settled mechanics.

Jun’s conflict is consequently both practical and ethical: recover enough technology to resist the Rot, determine which factions can be trusted, and decide what sacrifices are acceptable when the people paying the price may live decades ahead of Jun’s own timeline.
What does combat and exploration look like?
Confirmed demonstrations show third-person, real-time action across hazardous worlds and ancient or alien facilities. Jun explores derelict sites, fights hostile encounters and searches for Celestial Remnants. The available footage establishes the format and tone, but not a final catalogue of weapons, abilities or difficulty settings.

Companions can fight beside Jun. Their presence is more than a damage-per-second calculation: companion reactions help carry decisions into relationships and later outcomes. A choice made during a firefight or while opening a sealed facility can affect whether a crew member trusts Jun, how the crew functions and what information becomes available later.
The 2026 gameplay reveal illustrates this design with Elise and Tom. Jun must decide whether to open an airlock and purge hostile forces when innocent people might also be inside. The example shows that decisions can be embedded in an action sequence rather than isolated in a conversation menu. Some consequences happen immediately; others take time to surface after Jun has left the location.
How do companions, Awakened characters and morality alignments fit together?
EXODUS has human and Awakened companions. Awakened characters can occupy ordinary social roles such as merchants, soldiers and medics, so they are part of the wider society rather than a single enemy category. They can also join Jun’s crew and participate in combat and story decisions.
Jun’s journey includes two named morality alignments: Paladin and Immortal. The public material confirms that these alignments define aspects of the journey, but it does not yet publish a complete ruleset showing every benefit, penalty or mutually exclusive outcome. Likewise, the developers have not finished detailing the complete companion relationship system. Because travel consumes different amounts of time for Jun and everyone else, a choice can have two layers: what happens at the moment of action and what has changed by the time Jun returns.

For example, saving a group today may require abandoning a mission whose eventual payoff could help a distant settlement years later. The game can make that trade-off legible because the Traveler can estimate the elapsed time before departure. You are not merely selecting a moral label; you are allocating scarce years between the people travelling with Jun and the society waiting at home.
The airlock scenario involving Elise and Tom is a demonstrated example, not a complete map of every branch. Until the promised choices-and-consequences spotlight arrives, it is safest to describe EXODUS as a game with consequential decisions rather than claim a specific number of endings, a fully systemic reputation model or a guaranteed romance structure.

An official community update from March 2026 said deeper spotlights on skills, builds, gear, progression, companion relationships, romance, the Persepolis hub, choices and role-playing mechanics were still planned.
