Short answer: the China-market standard HONOR Magic9 (model MLY-AN00) is listed with MagicOS 11 based on Android 17, but the official material reviewed does not confirm Google Play services or other Google apps for that exact software build. HONOR’s seven-year Android and security-update announcement starts in EU markets and does not establish the same term for the China model. HONOR’s current global eSIM compatibility list also does not include the Magic9, so built-in eSIM support should be treated as unconfirmed. What exactly is the Honor Magic 9 model covered here?
The clearest official device record is HONOR’s China store listing for the standard Magic9, model MLY-AN00. That listing says the phone launched with MagicOS 11 based on Android 17. A regional Magic9 sold elsewhere may have a different model number, firmware package, modem configuration or feature set, so specifications from another market cannot safely be transferred to MLY-AN00.

A China listing can therefore answer what HONOR documents for that edition without proving what an imported or future regional version will do.
Does the Honor Magic 9 have Google apps?
Google apps are not confirmed for the China-market standard Magic9 in the reviewed official documentation. HONOR’s product page identifies MagicOS 11, while the company’s China support instructions for enabling Google Play services apply to MagicOS 10. Those instructions are useful background, but they do not certify Google Play services, the Play Store or other Google apps on the Magic9’s listed MagicOS 11 build.

What HONOR’s MagicOS 10 instructions actually say
For some China-market phones running MagicOS 10, HONOR says to open Settings > Users and accounts, switch on the Google Play services option, and use an overseas network. It also says Google apps can then be downloaded through the App Market and warns that enabling the service may increase power consumption.
That procedure should not be presented as a Magic9 guarantee. The documented phone is on MagicOS 11, and the material reviewed does not state that the same switch exists, works, or is enabled on MLY-AN00.
How to verify Google support on a specific handset
- Confirm the model in Settings > About phone and record the model number and MagicOS version. A result other than MLY-AN00 is a different product record and needs its own documentation.
- Open the app list and search for Google Play services and Google Play Store. Their presence is stronger evidence than a seller’s generic “global ROM” description, but an installed package can still be disabled or region-restricted.
- Check Settings > Users and accounts for a Google-account option or Google Play services switch. If it is absent, do not assume that sideloading an installer will provide a supported setup.
- Sign in only after confirming that the phone can reach Google’s servers on your network. A setup that depends on an overseas network may not behave like an officially certified global phone.
HONOR has not published, in the reviewed material, a model-specific statement that settles this question for the standard Magic9. Buyers who need Gmail, Google Maps, Google Wallet, Play Store distribution or Play Protect should obtain written confirmation for the exact regional model rather than relying on a generic MagicOS claim.
Does the China version work with Google Play?
There is no confirmed yes for MLY-AN00. The available evidence shows a MagicOS 10 enablement guide and a Magic9 listing on MagicOS 11; it does not connect the two with a statement that the Magic9 includes Google Play services.

Importers should treat “Google-ready” or “Play Store installed” in a listing as a seller claim until it is demonstrated on the exact build. Ask for the model number, software version and a screen recording of the Google Play services and Play Store entries. If the seller has altered the software, future updates or a factory reset could change that arrangement, and HONOR’s reviewed pages do not describe such a configuration as an official Magic9 specification.
Does the Honor Magic 9 get Android and security updates?
HONOR announced on March 3, 2025 that it would offer seven years of Android OS and security updates for its flagship Magic series, with the commitment starting in EU markets. The phrase “starting in EU markets” is a regional scope, not a universal promise for every Magic phone sold worldwide.
The reviewed sources do not state a support duration for the China-market standard Magic9. HONOR’s MagicOS 11 material describes a China mainland upgrade plan and warns that timing and features vary by model, but it does not supply a model-specific number of years for MLY-AN00. Consequently, you cannot apply the EU announcement to the China listing without confirmation from HONOR for that model and market.

How to check an update commitment before buying
- Write down the full model number and the country where the phone will be sold. “Magic9” alone is not precise enough.
- Ask HONOR support or the authorized seller to identify the support policy for that exact model and region, separating Android-version upgrades from security patches.
- After setup, open Settings > System & updates and note the current build, security-patch date and update channel. These details show the present state, not a promise of future duration.
- Keep the purchase record and the written policy. A seven-year EU statement cannot be used as proof for a China-market import unless the manufacturer explicitly extends it.
Does the Honor Magic 9 support eSIM?
Built-in eSIM support is not confirmed for the standard Magic9. HONOR’s global eSIM compatibility page lists supported models, but the Magic9 is not on the list reviewed. HONOR also cautions: “Depending on the country of origin, eSIM may not be supported even if your device is listed above.”

The omission does not prove that every future regional Magic9 lacks eSIM; it means the available manufacturer list does not support promising it for MLY-AN00. eSIM activation also depends on the carrier and the country in which the phone originated, so a compatible-looking handset can still fail an operator’s provisioning check.
How to verify eSIM before committing to a plan
- Check the phone’s exact model and region, not just the retail name.
- In the cellular settings, look for an option such as Add eSIM or Download SIM. Menu wording can vary by MagicOS build, and the absence of an option is a warning sign rather than proof of a hardware defect.
- Give the model number and IMEI to your carrier and ask whether it can issue an eSIM profile for that device. Carrier approval is separate from HONOR’s device list.
- Do not cancel an existing physical-SIM service until the carrier has successfully downloaded and activated the profile.
Are the standard Magic 9 and Super Power Edition the same for SIM support?
No. HONOR publishes separate product records. The official Super Power Edition specification page describes two nano-SIM slots for that edition, but that information must not be copied to the standard Magic9. The standard China store page identifies MLY-AN00; the reviewed material does not settle its physical-SIM or eSIM configuration.

What should you check before importing a China-market Magic 9?
Use this sequence to avoid paying for a feature the phone does not document:
- Identify the hardware: obtain a photo of the About phone screen showing MLY-AN00 or the exact regional model.
- Confirm software: record the MagicOS version and Android base. The China listing for the standard model says MagicOS 11 based on Android 17.
- Test Google requirements: verify Google Play services, the Play Store and Google-account setup on that build, rather than accepting a generic “international” label.
- Get update terms in writing: ask whether the seven-year policy applies to the model and country in your order. The published EU scope does not answer that for China.
- Validate cellular features: have the carrier check the IMEI for eSIM eligibility and network compatibility. If you need dual physical SIM, obtain the standard model’s own specification; do not rely on the Super Power Edition page.
- Check return rights: imported phones can be difficult to return if Google services, updates or eSIM activation do not work as expected.

If your daily workflow depends on Google Play distribution or Google account integration, the unresolved MagicOS 11 documentation is a material risk. Require a seller demonstration on the exact model and retain a return option.

Be cautious if long-term support is your priority
The seven-year figure is meaningful for the EU-market commitment, but it is not evidence of a seven-year China-market policy. Treat the China model’s support duration as unknown until HONOR states it directly.
Do not buy it on an eSIM assumption
Because the Magic9 is absent from HONOR’s current global eSIM list, select a carrier-approved model with confirmed eSIM support if eSIM is a requirement. A physical-SIM configuration shown for another edition cannot substitute for that confirmation.

Can changing the phone’s region unlock eSIM on a Magic 9?
There is no manufacturer statement in the reviewed material that a region change adds eSIM hardware support. Activation still depends on the phone’s exact origin and the carrier, so a software-region switch should not be treated as a substitute for compatibility confirmation.
