War Plans are Diablo 4’s Lord of Hatred endgame playlist: after finishing the expansion campaign, visit the Command Table in Temis, choose a chain of familiar endgame activities, complete them in sequence, then claim the War Chest. The table unlocks a short plan that grows as you progress; activities also earn points for their own trees, which add modifiers and rewards. Whispers can accompany a chosen activity, but are not a separate playlist stop. The live rules described here are Season 15, checked against patch 3.2.3 on 27 October 2026. Season 16 changes discussed below are from the 3.3.0 PTR and are not live rules.

What are War Plans in Diablo 4?

War Plans turn existing endgame modes into a structured, repeatable route. Instead of choosing a single activity and then deciding what to do next, you pick a board of activities at the Command Table, run them one after another, and earn a completion reward. Blizzard described the system in its 2026 Lord of Hatred preview as a way to give endgame play “structure, depth, challenge and greater rewards.” It is not a new dungeon: the stops are modes already in the game, with War Plan trees adding optional twists to how those modes play.

The system is tied to Lord of Hatred. That expansion requires the Diablo IV base game. War Plans are also a progression system: the Command Table begins at rank 0/10, and completing plans advances it, opening more choices and building toward a longer playlist. Maxroll’s 2026 guide describes fresh plans as short, with the number of stops increasing toward a maximum of five. Reports differ on the precise first-plan length by character and progression state, so the reliable expectation is that early plans are shorter than the fully developed board.

Finishing each activity advances the chain and provides that activity’s rewards. Complete the entire plan to open the War Chest in Temis. Blizzard identifies Cube Spoils from completed plans as a main source of Horadric Cube materials, alongside Elite monsters, Undercity Tributes, and Whisper Caches. The chest’s contents vary; Blizzard has not published a fixed War Chest gold or experience payout.

How do you unlock War Plans, and where is the Command Table?

You need Lord of Hatred and a completed expansion campaign to unlock the core War Plans system. The Command Table is in Temis, the capital of Skovos, beside Tyrael.

  1. Own Lord of Hatred. The expansion requires the Diablo IV base game.
  2. Complete the Lord of Hatred campaign on at least one character.
  3. Travel to Temis and interact with the Command Table beside Tyrael.
  4. Choose a War Plan and select activities from the available board.

After one character completes the campaign, later characters can use the campaign-skip option rather than repeat the full story. A secondary guide identifies “The War for Sanctuary” as a priority quest associated with the table; treat that name as a guide detail, not a requirement established by Blizzard’s cited feature overview. Since patch 3.0.2, a dedicated War Plan teleport can take you to the active objective, or to Temis when you have no active objective.

What activities can you add to a War Plan?

The six selectable activity types are Nightmare Dungeons, Helltides, the Undercity, Lair Bosses, Infernal Hordes, and the Pit. You build the route by choosing among these options as they appear on your board.

  • Nightmare Dungeons: a dungeon route that can include Escalation Nightmare Dungeon content when the relevant Sigil and nodes are available.
  • Helltides: progress through the Helltide objective rather than by opening chests. Since Season 14, the War Plan objective is to collect 75 Cinders on Normal through Penitent, or 250 Cinders on Torment I and above (Blizzard Entertainment, 2026).
  • The Undercity: a timed activity with its own tree and reward modifiers.
  • Lair Bosses: boss-focused progression. The Lair Boss skill tree requires Torment I or higher; Greater Lair Boss activity nodes require Torment VI or higher, according to Maxroll’s 14 October 2026 guide.
  • Infernal Hordes: a wave-based activity with a dedicated tree and increased Activity Experience compared with a standard node.
  • The Pit: a progression activity with its own tree. Access to the Pit skill tree requires Season Rank 2 through the Hellish Descent capstone, according to Maxroll.

Whispers are different: Tree of Whispers is not a seventh selectable stop. Blizzard says Whispers can “double up with any activity selected.” They still count for activity progression and can earn Activity Points for customization. This resolves a discrepancy in some older guides that list Whispers as a playlist node. Echoing Hatred and fishing are also outside the War Plan playlist.

When one activity ends, the game routes you to the next stop. Blizzard says it will generate a required Sigil on the fly if you do not already have one. Activities are selected from the top of the board downward, according to Maxroll’s guide.

How does War Plan progression and Activity Experience work?

Each activity has a separate seven-level skill tree, with one skill point earned at each level (Maxroll, 2026). Completing that activity as part of an active War Plan earns Activity Experience; higher difficulty generally awards more. Spending the resulting points unlocks nodes that can change an activity’s spawns, rewards, objectives, or added mechanics. Some nodes bring features from other modes into the activity.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

For the six selectable modes, the live Activity Experience values below are from Maxroll’s 14 October 2026 table. The figures are credited to Maxroll, 2026. “Standard” covers Lair Bosses, the Undercity, the Pit, Helltides, and Nightmare Dungeons; the other columns are separate activity variants.

Difficulty Standard activity Infernal Hordes Greater Helltide Escalation Nightmare Dungeon
Normal 25 50 75 85
Hard 31 62 94 106
Expert 37 75 113 128
Penitent 43 87 131 149
Torment I 50 100 150 170
Torment II 56 112 168 191
Torment III 62 125 187 212
Torment IV 68 137 206 233
Torment V 75 150 225 255
Torment VI 81 162 243 276
Torment VII 87 175 262 297
Torment VIII 100 200 300 340
Torment IX 112 225 337 382
Torment X 125 250 375 425
Torment XI 137 275 412 467
Torment XII 150 300 450 510

These are Activity Experience values, not the amount of character XP or a guaranteed War Chest payout. Infernal Hordes award twice the standard-column value in this table; Greater Helltides award three times the standard value; Escalation Nightmare Dungeons award more still. The table matters if you are choosing a route to level a particular tree, but points are also tied to what you actually want the activity to do.

Examples of high-impact nodes highlighted by Maxroll’s community recommendations include Waking Spoils, Gauntlet, Fearless Conviction, Nemesis, and Branching Pathways for Nightmare Dungeons; Hellmouth, Writhe and Rot, and Wretched Vermin for Helltides; Gutter Filth, Jade Epiphany, and Pathfinder for the Undercity; Two by Two, Greater Nemesis, and Lair of Runes for Lair Bosses; Method and Madness, Exalted Council, Council Coffers, and Infernal Hoard for Infernal Hordes; and Choron’s Blessing, Choron’s Haste, Heart of Stone, and Damned Thieves for the Pit. Maxroll describes Choron’s Blessing as adding four Glyph upgrade chances, for nine total in a run. These are community suggestions, not mandatory Blizzard settings.

Whispers have a tree despite not being playlist stops. Completing Whispers in the world can earn Experience for that tree, which requires less XP than the other six trees because it has no selectable playlist node. Perks from an activity tree can affect that activity outside a War Plan, but tree progression is earned by running the activity within a plan; Whispers are the documented exception for world activity progression.

What rewards do War Plans give?

War Plans combine rewards attached to individual activity nodes with the reward for finishing the chain. The board can offer armor, weapons, jewelry, gold and Obols, salvage materials, dungeon keys, Experience orbs, gem fragments, Horadric reagents, runes, and Talisman items (Maxroll, 2026). Nodes can appear in Magic, Rare, Legendary, or Mythic quality, and higher War Plan ranks make higher rarities more common. The exact type, quality, quantity, and placement are randomized, so the board is not a guaranteed way to obtain a particular item.

Blizzard has specifically increased War Plan experience rewards over multiple patches. In Season 15 patch 3.2.1, baseline Experience Orbs for completing any War Plan node in Torment X and above increased from 2 to 4, regardless of reward type or rarity (Blizzard Entertainment, 2026). Experience reward nodes of Magic, Rare, Legendary, and Mythic quality also had their orb count doubled in Season 15 (Blizzard Entertainment, 2026). Earlier, patch 3.1.0 increased War Plan experience rewards at Torment VIII and above and increased Infernal Hordes rewards. Those are node-reward changes, not a published fixed XP amount for the War Chest.

Blizzard’s Season 15 examples also increased general bonus experience: Torment X moved from 1200% to 1300%, Torment XI from 1300% to 1500%, and Torment XII from 1400% to 1700% (Blizzard Entertainment, 2026). These are season-wide bonus figures, not War Chest multipliers. Likewise, Whisper Gold Caches at Torment XII rose from approximately 35 million to approximately 100 million Gold; that is adjacent Whisper-cache tuning, not a War Plan chest figure.

Can you do War Plans in a party?

Yes. Live party boards can be synchronized through the party option at the Command Table in Temis. The whole party must be there; the initiator chooses New Plan For Party, which costs 2 Marks of El’Druin (Blizzard Entertainment, 2026), and starts a vote to reroll and sync everyone’s board. If all players accept, the initiator’s new board is copied to the group. Blizzard’s patch 3.1 notes describe these as fully shared boards with synchronized progression and objectives.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Party synchronization ignores individual War Plan level, Torment level, and campaign completion. That makes it possible to join the same board even when party members’ personal progression differs. Later hotfixes also addressed shared-board reroll costs and Infernal Hordes party votes, so use the in-game prompt as the current authority if a menu or vote differs from an older guide.

Are War Plans account-wide?

Since Season 15, War Plans reputation points are shared by characters that match on all three character partitions: Eternal or Seasonal, Hardcore or non-Hardcore, and Normal or Solo Self-Found. For example, two Seasonal, non-Hardcore, non-SSF characters share reputation; a Seasonal non-Hardcore SSF character belongs to a separate partition. Each character still allocates its own points in its own planner, similar to shared skill or Paragon points.

There is a Hardcore season-transition caveat: only living characters transfer points at season change. From Season 15 onward, a living Hardcore character in the same partition—including a level-one storage character—is needed to carry a dead character’s accumulated points into Eternal. An older sentence on Maxroll says activity experience is not shared; Blizzard’s Season 15 account-sharing announcement supersedes that for reputation progression. Separate planners remain per character.

How do you reroll a War Plan?

On the live Season 15 board, use the New Plans control to refresh the offered board; Maxroll says it can reset the offered board up to three times. A party uses the separate New Plan For Party option and the unanimous-vote flow described above. Marks of El’Druin are a War Plans currency, and the party option costs 2 Marks. The exact solo reroll price for a live Season 15 board is not established in the cited official notes, so check the displayed cost in game rather than relying on a number from an older guide.

Do not confuse rerolling the board with changing activity-tree nodes. In Season 15, activity-tree changes use gold, while rerolling a board and synchronizing the party use Marks of El’Druin. Season 16 PTR rules change the respec currency, as described below.

What is War Plans Tactics in the Season 16 PTR?

War Plans Tactics is a tested Season 16 system for influencing which activities and reward categories appear; it is not a live Season 15 feature. Blizzard’s 3.3.0 PTR ran from 27 October 2026 at 10:00 a.m. PDT through 3 November 2026 at 10:00 a.m. PST. Until Blizzard publishes live Season 16 notes, all Tactics, Marks of Wisdom, and Tyrael’s Boons details here should be treated as PTR information.

On the PTR, completing War Plan activities earns Tactics points. You can spend up to 3 points in a given activity node and up to 3 in a reward node to increase the likelihood that preferred activity types or reward categories appear. At least 1 point invested in Helltides or Nightmare Dungeons opens a further preference for Greater Helltides or Escalation Dungeons. Blizzard describes this as increasing the chance, not guaranteeing a particular node; it has not published the per-point probability.

Blizzard’s PTR article lists nine reward categories: Armor, Weapons, Jewelry, Salvage, Gems, Gold, Activity Keys, Horadric Cube Materials, and Talisman Items. Some secondary PTR roundups also list Obducite as a tenth category, but Blizzard’s published list does not. Do not assume Obducite is a separate Tactics reward node unless the live interface confirms it.

What are Marks of Wisdom?

Marks of Wisdom are the PTR currency for changing War Plans Tactics and individual Activity-tree nodes, replacing gold for those changes in the test build. Turning in completed War Plans awards Marks of Wisdom, and the PTR holding cap is 20 (Blizzard Entertainment, 2026). Blizzard has not published a live earn rate per completed plan, and the 20-Mark cap is a PTR limit rather than a confirmed live Season 16 cap.

The PTR vendor Mrak offers an “Unlock and Max War Plans” boost that removes 3 Marks of El’Druin and 20 Marks of Wisdom. That is a test-vendor detail, not a live progression shortcut. If the system ships, consult the shipped patch notes for the final costs and caps.

To maintain the grip and prevent accidental falls, it's a good practice to periodically reapply pressure to the suction cup.

What is Tyrael’s Boons, and do you need Lord of Hatred?

Tyrael’s Boons is a separate seasonal progression tree tested for Season 16. Blizzard says all Seasonal players can access it without owning Lord of Hatred, unlike the core War Plans playlist. The PTR allows up to 132 points, enough to choose up to 4 of 6 available selections across four paths. Unassigning a point costs 5,000,000 gold (Blizzard Entertainment, 2026), and a player cannot take every node in one season.

  • Curious Addition: improves Purveyor of Curiosities outcomes, including a second-item chance, new item types or higher quality, with an optional higher cost aimed at better Ancestral odds.
  • Merchant of Mystery: adds a Torment merchant selling caches for Forgotten Souls. Points can improve Ancestral cache odds and branch toward rune or gem payments, or greater cache quantity or quality.
  • Scent of Gold: improves gold and experience, with branches for more Horadric Cube materials and Gem Fragments, better monster gold and gem drops, or a higher Legendary-find chance.
  • Trash for Treasure: focuses on crafting and salvage: cheaper Alchemist transmutes, chances for Forgotten Souls, Obducite and Scrolls of Restoration, and more monster drops of Obducite and salvage. Salvaging Ancestral items can also yield a Scroll of Restoration.

The Trash for Treasure PTR path unlocks Greater Temper, a Horadric Cube recipe that upgrades a Tempered Affix to a Greater Affix for 30 Scrolls of Restoration and 1,000 Obducite (Blizzard Entertainment, 2026). Seasonal Blessings do not disappear in this PTR design; they become a static set of the same five Blessings. Tyrael’s Boons is an additional seasonal layer rather than a replacement.

Which War Plan route should you choose?

For a live Season 15 farm, choose the tree effects and activity rewards that match your goal rather than assuming one route is best for every character. The current activity trees support three useful decision axes:

  • Experience and progression: compare Pit, Nightmare Dungeon, and Helltide nodes, including the increased Activity Experience for Escalation Nightmare Dungeons and Greater Helltides at a given difficulty. Patch changes have raised War Plan experience at higher Torment levels.
  • Targeted gear and Mythics: consider Helltides together with Lair Bosses, and inspect the actual reward nodes on the board. The board’s rarity and reward type are randomized; neither mode guarantees a specific drop simply because it is in the plan.
  • Gold and materials: compare Infernal Hordes and the Undercity, along with salvage, Horadric reagent, rune, and gold reward nodes available on your board.

There is no official average War Chest gold or XP figure, completion-rate statistic, or player-count figure for War Plans. Treat fixed payout claims cautiously: the published evidence supports variable node rewards and a completed-plan chest, not a single guaranteed chest quantity.

What changed between live Season 15 and the Season 16 PTR?

System Live Season 15 Season 16 PTR (not live)
Board control Reroll offered plans; select activities and customize their trees. Tactics points weight the chance of preferred activity types and reward categories.
Changing nodes Gold for Activity-tree changes; Marks of El’Druin for board rerolls and party sync. Marks of Wisdom for Tactics and Activity-tree changes; PTR cap of 20.
Seasonal progression Seasonal Blessings and Season 15 Splinter modifiers. Tyrael’s Boons added; Blessings remain as a static set of five.
Expansion access Core War Plans require Lord of Hatred. Core War Plans still require Lord of Hatred; Tyrael’s Boons are available to all Seasonal players without it.

The PTR is evidence of features being tested, not confirmation that every value or mechanic will ship unchanged. In particular, the exact Tactics chance per point, final Marks of Wisdom cap and payout, and live Season 16 availability were not specified in the PTR material summarized here. Do not treat an unofficial Season 16 date as confirmed by the PTR announcement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can War Plan activity perks work outside an active plan?

Yes. Once unlocked, Activity Perks can modify their activity even when you are not currently running it as a War Plan stop. The distinction is that tree progression normally comes from activity completions within a plan; world Whispers are the documented exception.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Does Diablo 4 send me straight to the next War Plan activity?

Yes. Completing a stop routes you onward, and Blizzard says the game can generate a missing Sigil for the next activity. Since patch 3.0.2, a dedicated War Plan teleport also takes you to the active objective, or back to Temis if there is no active objective.

What quest name do some guides associate with the War Plans table?

A secondary guide identifies “The War for Sanctuary” as a priority quest at the Command Table. Blizzard’s feature overview does not establish that quest name as a universal prerequisite, so use the campaign-completion requirement and the in-game table prompt as the dependable checks.
