To remove a non-consensual intimate deepfake, make two separate reports: ask the website or platform hosting the image to remove the original, and ask Google to remove qualifying results from Search. Google removal can make a result harder to find through Google, but it does not delete the underlying webpage or file. Save the URLs, screenshots, and report confirmations before anything changes.
What can Google remove—and what must the host remove?
Google’s non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII) process can apply to intimate or sexually explicit images shared without the depicted person’s consent, including fake, AI-generated, or synthetic imagery that falsely shows them nude or in a sexual situation. Google’s guidance describes a central reporting form for content in Google services such as Search, Drive, and Photos.

Google Search removal and source removal are different outcomes. Google can remove or restrict a result in its own products; only the site, platform, or host can delete the image or page from its service. Google advises people to contact the owner of the website hosting the content as well as report the result to Google. A result disappearing from Search is not proof that the original file has been erased.
This specific Google policy is aimed at intimate or sexually explicit imagery. If an image is manipulated but does not depict the person nude or in a sexually explicit situation, it may not meet the policy’s definition. A separate route—such as a platform’s impersonation or abuse policy—may still be relevant.

It helps to think of this as a two-track takedown, with an optional third track for future matching uploads. A Google request targets results in Google’s products. A host report targets the page or file where it is published. StopNCII can help participating services detect matching images. These routes can complement one another, but none should be mistaken for the others.
What should I save before reporting the deepfake?
Record enough information to identify each copy and show where it appeared. A page or file can disappear while a request is being prepared, so preserve what you can without redistributing the image.
- The exact URL of each source page and, if available, the direct image or media URL.
- The Google Search or Google Images result URL.
- Screenshots showing the result and page context, including the username, host, and date where visible.
- The search query that surfaced the result.
- Threats, extortion messages, or payment demands connected to the image.
- Copies of submitted reports, confirmation messages, and reference numbers.
Google’s form asks for specific content URLs and contextual information. Keep a separate record for each source, because one page’s removal does not establish that other copies have been removed. Do not submit child sexual-abuse material through a general reporting form; use the designated child-safety reporting route.
For each separate post or result, make a simple record that links the URL to the service and the date you found it. If a page contains multiple images, note the location of the specific image on the page. Preserve the report number and any response alongside that record. This makes it easier to follow up on the right item if one URL changes or a platform asks which post you mean.
Do not wait for a perfect evidence package before using a reporting route. The exact URLs and basic context are especially useful because a service needs to locate the content. If a screenshot is unavailable, provide the identifying details you do have. If there are threats or demands for payment, save those messages and their context as well as the image links.
How do I ask Google Search to remove a deepfake?
Use the Google Search result controls where they are available, or submit the relevant removal request through Google’s central form. Google announced a simpler Search workflow on February 10, 2026; it was rolling out in most countries and was expected to expand, so controls may differ by region or account.

- Start a removal request. Select the three-dot menu on the result, then choose “remove result”, if that option appears.
- Choose the relevant reason. Select “It shows a sexual image of me” and follow the prompts.
- Submit the identifying information. Provide the specific result or content URLs and the requested context. Where the interface offers it, submit multiple images together rather than filing separate requests for each one.
- Review optional safeguards. The workflow may offer an option to filter similar explicit results proactively. Read the setting and decide whether to opt in.
- Track the request. Google’s announcement says request status can be followed in the Results about you hub, with updates also sent by email.
If the Search menu or reason does not appear, use Google’s central content-removal form and explain that the image is non-consensual and fake or falsely depicts you in an intimate or sexually explicit situation. The form’s scope includes Google services such as Search, Drive, and Photos; use the product-specific process for content hosted within a Google product when applicable. Availability and interface labels can change, so follow the options actually shown in your region.

When describing the material, be direct about the central issue: whether it is intimate or sexually explicit, whether it was shared without the depicted person’s consent, and whether it is fake or falsely depicts that person. Google’s current definition of NCII abuse includes creation or distribution of intimate or sexually explicit imagery and videos without consent, including fake, AI-generated, or synthetic imagery often called deepfakes. That definition matters because not every manipulated image necessarily fits this particular removal route.
Google’s February 10, 2026 announcement added the option, where available, to report multiple images together and to opt into safeguards that proactively filter similar explicit results. Those are optional features of the Search workflow, not a substitute for identifying the specific result or reporting the source to its host. Check the request status in the Results about you hub and watch for email updates; do not assume a request is complete just because you submitted the form.
How do I get the image removed from the hosting site?
Report the source page or media file directly to the platform or host. Use the closest available reporting route—such as non-consensual intimate imagery, privacy, abuse, impersonation, copyright, or legal removal—and submit each relevant source URL.
- Find the platform’s reporting route. Look for its policy or help page and choose the category that best matches the content. If the image is on a Google product, use Google’s product-specific reporting process.
- Identify the material precisely. Include the page URL, direct media URL if available, account or username, and the location of the image on the page.
- Explain the violation plainly. State that the image is intimate or sexually explicit, was shared without the depicted person’s consent, and is fake or AI-generated if that is the case. Ask the service to remove the image and any page or post containing it.
- Request confirmation. Ask for a report reference or confirmation when the platform provides one, and save its response.
- Repeat for other copies. Report each distinct post, page, or host; do not assume one service’s action removes copies elsewhere.
Keep the request factual and concise. Include only the information needed to locate and assess the content, and retain a copy of what you submit. If a reporting form is broken or unavailable, preserve the error and look for the platform’s designated privacy, abuse, or legal contact.
A useful host report has four parts: where the material is (the URL and, if possible, the direct media link); which account or page published it; why it violates the service’s policy or applicable law; and the action requested, such as removal of the image and the post containing it. Ask for confirmation if the service offers it. You do not need to assume that one category fits every case: use the most specific available route for intimate imagery or abuse, and consider privacy, impersonation, copyright, or legal reporting when those grounds apply.
If the source is a Google service, use the appropriate Google product process rather than treating an ordinary Search result report as deletion of content stored on Drive, Photos, or another Google product. If your request depends on copyright infringement, a trademark violation, or a court order, that is a separate legal path. Google explicitly says a content-policy report does not substitute for legal notice.
Which route should I use first?
For qualifying non-consensual intimate imagery, it is usually practical to submit both the Google request and the host report as soon as you have the URLs and context. The routes address different locations, so there is no need to wait for one service’s decision before reporting to the other. Add StopNCII if you want a containment measure for participating platforms.

| Route | What it targets | What it can do | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Search request | A qualifying result in Google products | Request removal or restriction of the result from Google | Delete the source webpage or file from another host |
| Host or platform report | The published post, page, or file on that service | Ask the service that holds the content to remove it | Automatically remove copies elsewhere or clear stale Search results |
| StopNCII | Matching uploads on participating platforms | Share a digital fingerprint to help participating services detect or block matches | Serve as a universal takedown for every host or remove a Google result by itself |
| Legal reporting or escalation | A legal claim or process, depending on the facts and jurisdiction | Use the relevant legal channel for matters such as copyright, trademark, or a court order | Replace a platform-policy report or guarantee the same result in every jurisdiction |
There is no universal response time or guaranteed outcome established for ordinary Google or host reports. Keep the confirmation details and follow the service’s process. A legal deadline, where one applies, depends on the law and the platform covered.
What if the host removed the image but Google still shows it?
Once the source page or file has been removed or changed, request a refresh through Google’s cache or outdated-result process. This follow-up is for an obsolete Search result; it is different from the original NCII report, which asks Google to remove qualifying content.
Use the exact outdated result URL and, if possible, confirm that the source page no longer displays the image. If the source is still live, a refresh request cannot delete it from the host; return to the host’s reporting route and continue that separate request.
Think of this as a cleanup step after the source changes. It addresses the stale Google listing, not a live copy on the original site. Keep both records: the host’s removal confirmation, if provided, and the outdated result URL you submit to Google. If the page remains online or the image still loads from its direct media URL, follow up with the host rather than relying on a Search refresh.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCan StopNCII help prevent re-uploads?
StopNCII is a containment measure for participating platforms, not a universal takedown service. The Federal Trade Commission’s 2026 consumer guidance says StopNCII.org creates a digital fingerprint, or hash, of an image and shares that fingerprint—not the image itself—with participating platforms.
A fingerprint can help participating services identify or block matching uploads, but it does not send a deletion request to every independent image host or remove content already indexed by Google. Use it alongside reports to the source host and Google, not in place of them. The FTC identifies digitally altered images and AI deepfakes as forms of image-based abuse.
In practical terms, StopNCII addresses a different problem from a takedown: it may help participating platforms recognize a matching image in future uploads. Its coverage is limited to participating services, so do not treat it as a guarantee that a copy cannot reappear elsewhere. The FTC describes the tool as free and says the fingerprint, rather than the image, is shared with participating platforms.

When should I consider legal or safety escalation?
A content-policy report and a legal notice are separate processes. Google says a policy report does not substitute for legal notice; copyright infringement, trademark violations, or a court order should be raised through the relevant legal channel as well as any applicable content-policy route.
The FTC’s September 2026 alert describes a U.S. Take It Down Act requirement: platforms covered by the law must provide a reporting route for intimate images shared without consent, including deepfakes, and the alert describes a 48-hour removal period after a qualifying request. That is not a worldwide deadline for every website. Whether the law applies depends on statutory coverage and the circumstances.
For threats, extortion, imminent harm, a minor, or repeated distribution, consider contacting law enforcement and a qualified legal or victim-support service. Legal options and deadlines depend on jurisdiction and facts; do not assume the same remedy applies everywhere.
If a platform’s reporting form does not work, save the error and use its designated privacy, abuse, or legal contact to continue the report. Escalation should preserve the same concise facts and URLs so the service can identify the material. If the matter involves extortion, immediate safety concerns, a minor, or persistent redistribution, consider reaching out to appropriate local authorities and qualified support. Do not assume that a U.S. statutory rule applies to a platform or person in another country.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What costs, deadlines, and guarantees should I expect?
The cited guidance does not establish a universal processing time, success rate, or response deadline for an ordinary Google Search request or a report to an independent host. Avoid promises that a result will disappear in a set number of hours or that a single report will remove every copy. Keep track of each submission and use the relevant follow-up route if the source changes or a result becomes outdated.
The FTC describes StopNCII as free. For legal help or victim-support assistance, cost and availability vary; no single fee or service can be assumed. The Take It Down Act’s 48-hour period is described by the FTC for platforms covered by the U.S. law after a qualifying request, not as a global guarantee for all websites. Coverage and the specific facts matter.
There is no product purchase that solves the core problem. A USB drive, VPN, antivirus product, or screenshot tool is not a substitute for reporting the source, reporting qualifying Search results, or using a relevant legal route. Save evidence carefully, but prioritize the actual removal channels.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Google report automatically notify the website hosting the image?
Do not assume it does. Google Search removal and the host’s deletion process are separate requests, so submit a report to each relevant service and keep their confirmations separately.
Can I submit a request on behalf of someone shown in a deepfake?
Google’s cited guidance does not specify how every representative request is handled. If you are acting for someone else, identify your relationship in the form and follow its prompts; where safe and possible, the depicted person can also submit the request directly.

Provide the exact source and result URLs you saved, plus any report references or other context that identifies the content. Do not delay a report solely to obtain a screenshot if the relevant URLs and details are already available.
Does removing a result from Google delete the deepfake from the internet?
No. Google can remove or restrict a result from its products, but the source website or platform controls the underlying page or file. Report the material to the host as well.
What should I do if the image is no longer on the host but still appears in Google?
Use Google’s cache or outdated-result refresh process with the exact result URL. That follow-up addresses a stale listing; it does not remove a live copy from its host.
Will StopNCII stop every re-upload?
No. It shares an image fingerprint with participating platforms to help detect or block matching uploads. It is not a universal deletion request for every independent host and does not replace Google or host reports.
Is there a guaranteed deadline for Google or a website to act?
The cited guidance establishes no universal deadline for ordinary Google or host reports. The FTC describes a 48-hour period for qualifying requests to platforms covered by the U.S. Take It Down Act; that does not apply to every platform worldwide.
What if the image is fake but not nude or sexually explicit?
It may fall outside Google’s specific NCII removal definition. A platform’s impersonation, abuse, or other reporting route may still fit the situation.
Should I report copyright infringement instead of non-consensual imagery?
Use the route that matches the facts and the platform’s policies. A copyright, trademark, or court-order claim should use the relevant legal channel; Google says a content-policy report is not a substitute for legal notice.
The Bottom Line
Report qualifying intimate deepfakes to both Google and the service hosting the original: Google can address its results, while only the host can remove its copy. Save URLs and confirmations, use Google’s outdated-result process after a source is removed, and consider StopNCII for matching uploads on participating platforms. No ordinary report guarantees a universal takedown deadline.
