What should I check before changing the installation?
Start with service availability and connectivity. These checks can identify a platform outage or an unstable transfer without touching game data.
1. Check PlayStation service status
Open the official PlayStation service-status page and look for an alert affecting PlayStation Store, downloads, or account services. PlayStation places this check at the beginning of its stuck-download and game-troubleshooting workflows because a service incident can make a healthy installation appear broken. If an alert is active, wait for service restoration and retry the update afterward instead of deleting Cyberpunk.
2. Test the PS5 internet connection
On the console, go to Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection. Let the test complete and note whether the connection fails or repeatedly drops while the update is queued.

- After the home screen returns, open Downloads/Uploads.

Could storage location or licensing be blocking the update?
Yes. PlayStation’s game-troubleshooting guidance specifically calls out USB extended storage and digital licenses as separate checks.
Move the game from USB extended storage
If Cyberpunk 2077 is installed on USB extended storage, move the game data to the PS5’s internal storage, then retry the update. The purpose of this step is to remove the external-storage path from the equation; it is not a request to format the drive.
After the move completes, return to Downloads/Uploads and start the update again. If the game was already on internal storage, skip this step.

For a digital purchase, use the PS5’s Restore Licenses function before escalating. This refreshes the console’s entitlement check and is relevant when the game is owned by the account but the Store or update process does not recognize that entitlement correctly.

The Safe Mode menu also contains Repair Console Storage and Update System Software. Those options belong to different branches: storage repair is for a console-storage problem, while system-software updating is for a firmware item that is stuck or failing. Do not select a system-software option merely because a game patch is slow.
When should I delete and redownload Cyberpunk 2077?
Delete and redownload is a later escalation, not the first response to a stalled timer. PlayStation lists it after service, connection, restart, storage, license, and Safe Mode checks.
- Confirm that PlayStation services are operating.

CD PROJEKT RED notes that the Store may show the PS5 version as $0 while still requiring you to select Buy. The zero price is the displayed transaction value in that flow; it does not mean the prompt can be skipped. Select the Store’s Buy option and then check Downloads/Uploads for the upgrade.
Check region and CUSA matching
The game copy or account region must match the game’s CUSA code. A disc from one region paired with an account or Store entitlement from another can prevent the upgrade from appearing correctly. Check the CUSA information associated with the disc and ensure the account and copy are from the same supported region before treating the behavior as a network failure.

What if the stuck item is the PS5 system-software update?
Firmware recovery is separate from a Cyberpunk patch. Confirm the item name in Downloads/Uploads before proceeding.
Retry from the error details

Use Safe Mode’s Update System Software option
