Cronos: Lazarus is a $9.99 story DLC, not a standalone game. It launches on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 3 December 2026, with a Nintendo Switch 2 release planned for Q1 2027. You must own Cronos: The New Dawn on the same platform (and, on PC, the same storefront). The Deluxe Edition does not include Lazarus: it adds starter resources, two armor skins, a digital artbook and soundtrack. If you are new to the series, the practical route is the discounted Standard Edition first, then Lazarus when it releases.

What is included in Cronos: Lazarus?
Lazarus is a prequel chapter about the Pathfinder, the elite Collective agent who later becomes the Warden. Its story follows a forbidden attempt to revive a lost Essence, a mission the Collective must not discover. The Tracker, a Collective envoy built to hunt the Pathfinder, pursues you throughout the new chapter.

A separate campaign, not a sequel
The expansion fills in the Warden’s origin before the events of Cronos: The New Dawn. It is still third-person survival horror, but its announced design is faster and more aggressive than the base campaign. Publisher materials describe the goal as fighting on your own terms while uncovering secrets inside the Collective.
New movement and combat tools
- Teleportation: rapid repositioning for escapes, flanking and closing distance.
- Decoy: distracts enemies and briefly makes the Pathfinder invisible.
- Gladius: a new melee weapon described as faster and deadlier than the base game’s dagger.
Wccftech’s Gamescom 2026 report says Decoy and Teleportation are intended to be chained: using either ability reduces the other’s cooldown, creating a more frantic encounter rhythm. That description comes from the published preview, not an independent performance test.

What has not been announced
No official campaign length, map count, complete enemy or boss list, Season Pass, Complete Edition or physical Lazarus disc had been announced by 29 October 2026. The Steam page lists Windows minimum requirements only, so a Lazarus Mac or Linux version remains unconfirmed even though the base game lists those operating systems.
Does Lazarus require the base game?
Yes. Lazarus is downloadable content and cannot be played by itself. Steam states that the content requires Cronos: The New Dawn on Steam; the equivalent rule applies to PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo purchases.
Same platform and same PC storefront
A license on one platform does not unlock the DLC on another. For example, a PlayStation 5 disc or digital license does not activate a Steam copy, and an Epic Games Store base game does not satisfy a Steam Lazarus purchase. On PC, buy both the base game and expansion from the same storefront: Steam with Steam, Epic with Epic, or GOG with GOG.
Physical base game plus digital DLC
Physical copies of the base game exist for PS5 and Switch 2. A compatible disc or cartridge supplies the required base-game license on that console; Lazarus is then purchased and downloaded digitally. There is no announced physical Lazarus disc or cartridge.

No. Deluxe and Lazarus are separate products. The Deluxe contents lists checked for Xbox and PC contain only base-game bonuses, while Steam shows Lazarus as a second DLC row rather than part of the Deluxe package.

Pre-launch Deluxe advertising included 48-hour early access (playing on 3 September 2025 instead of the 5 September launch). That window has ended and is not a current benefit.
What the Deluxe upgrade does not do
Buying Deluxe, or the $14.99 Deluxe Edition Upgrade for a Standard owner on Steam, does not grant the Pathfinder campaign, Gladius, Tracker encounters or either new ability. If Lazarus is your reason for upgrading, purchase the Lazarus DLC separately.
Which edition should you buy?
Your best purchase depends on whether you already own the base game, your platform and whether cosmetic extras matter to you.
You already own Standard on PC, PS5 or Xbox
Buy Lazarus at its announced $9.99 reference price when it goes on sale in December. Deluxe is optional: choose the upgrade only for the skins, artbook, soundtrack and starting supplies.
You already own Deluxe
You still need to purchase Lazarus. Deluxe does not convert into a bundle and no Complete Edition has been announced.
You do not own the game and want the full story
On Steam, the Standard Edition is listed at $29.99 during the Halloween sale through 2 November 2026, down from its $59.99 list price. Bloober Team and Bandai Namco also advertise 50% discounts on PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store and Nintendo eShop, but each store can set different dates and regional prices. Buying Standard during the sale and Lazarus at $9.99 would put the current US Steam total at about $39.98 before tax, compared with $69.98 at the regular Standard list price plus the DLC.
You want only the base game’s slower survival-horror loop
Stay with Standard. The base campaign emphasizes methodical resource management and the merge-and-burn loop; Lazarus is specifically marketed around quicker repositioning, stealth through Decoy and more aggressive melee combat. This is a play-style choice, not an edition requirement.

You play only on Switch 2
The base game is available now, but Lazarus is delayed to Q1 2027 with no announced calendar day. GameWith reports that Switch 2 has no Deluxe Edition SKU, so buy Standard and wait for the Lazarus listing rather than looking for a Switch 2 Deluxe bundle.
You want a physical copy
Buy a PS5 disc or Switch 2 cartridge of the Standard Edition from a retailer, then add the digital expansion when it reaches your console store. A physical base copy does not include Lazarus.
When does Cronos: Lazarus come out?
The announced release date is 3 December 2026 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Switch 2 follows in Q1 2027; no day in that quarter has been published.
PC storefront availability
The official Lazarus page names Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG for PC. Steam’s app page (app 4768180) showed “This content is not yet available on Steam” on 29 October 2026, with an expected unlock roughly four weeks later. That status is normal before launch and does not mean the DLC was cancelled.
Do not confuse free updates with Lazarus
The October 2026 Photo Mode update and Halloween Pumpkin Head skin are free additions to the base game. They are not Lazarus content and do not provide its story or combat abilities.
How much does Lazarus cost?
The announced reference price is $9.99. Bloober Team’s Polish press release also lists 34,99 zł. Steam had not printed EUR, GBP or JPY prices by 29 October 2026, so do not infer a converted checkout amount; wait for your regional store listing.

Steam prints “i5-8400F” in the processor line; gaming-st.com notes that this may be a SKU typo. Treat the store text as the published requirement rather than as a recommendation to buy a particular processor. The Lazarus page shows Windows minimums only, so Mac and Linux compatibility is not confirmed.
Languages
Steam’s visible language rows show English interface, full audio and subtitles; French, Italian, German and Spanish-Spain have interface and subtitles but no full-audio mark. The header says 15 languages are supported, although the complete matrix was not expanded. SpiritGamer reports French text with English voice on Steam for both the base game and Lazarus; console French audio was not verified.
How do you buy and install Lazarus safely?
Check the platform license before paying. The following sequence avoids the most common cross-store and edition mistakes.
- Identify your play platform. Confirm whether you will use Steam, Epic, GOG, PS5, Xbox Series X|S or Switch 2.
- Verify the base-game license. You need Cronos: The New Dawn on that same platform; PC purchases must also use the same storefront.
- Choose Standard or Deluxe only if you need the base game. Deluxe adds cosmetics and resources, not the expansion.
- Buy the base game during a live promotion if appropriate. The Steam Halloween price is valid through 2 November 2026; confirm the store’s displayed end date and currency.
- Purchase Lazarus after its listing opens. For PC, use the same storefront as your base game. For consoles, use the account that owns the compatible digital or physical base license.
- Install the expansion and keep the base game installed. The 30 GB Lazarus figure is additional listing space, not a replacement for the base-game installation.
What are the biggest buying mistakes?
- Assuming Deluxe is a bundle: it is not; Lazarus remains a separate purchase.
- Buying DLC for the wrong store: Steam, Epic and GOG licenses do not cross-unlock.
- Expecting a Switch 2 launch in December: the current window is Q1 2027.
- Counting preorder bonuses as current contents: launch bonuses such as pistol ammunition, a health pack, energy and an armor skin were time-limited and have expired.
- Expecting a physical expansion: no Lazarus disc or cartridge has been announced.
- Assuming a playtime: no official hour count has been published, so any exact completion estimate is speculation.
- Confusing free base updates with DLC: Photo Mode and Pumpkin Head do not unlock Lazarus.
How was the edition choice determined?
The buying map uses five practical criteria: whether you already own the base game, what each SKU actually contains, platform release timing, same-store license rules and the difference between the base game’s deliberate combat and Lazarus’s faster toolkit. Prices are quoted as published for October 2026, with sale end dates and regional uncertainty attached to each figure. No campaign-length or performance claim is added where an official figure is unavailable.
What is the story context for Lazarus?
The expansion’s slogan is “Defy the calling. Bring her back.” Its premise follows the Pathfinder as he attempts a forbidden revival while the Collective sends the Tracker to stop him. Publisher materials identify the Pathfinder as the earlier identity of the Warden, making Lazarus an origin story rather than a parallel campaign with an unrelated protagonist.
Bloober Team said the Warden had been the most recognizable and requested character since The New Dawn launched. The expansion is co-developed by Bloober Team and PixelAnt Games, published by Bloober Team SA and built in Unreal Engine. It carries frequent violence or gore as mature content.

What should you buy right now?
If you already own Standard or Deluxe on PC, PS5 or Xbox, plan on the $9.99 Lazarus purchase in December; do not rebuy the base game or Deluxe unless you want its extras on another account. If you are new, the discounted Standard Edition is the value choice before 2 November 2026, followed by Lazarus at launch. Switch 2 players should buy the base game if they want to start now and wait for the Q1 2027 expansion listing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I play Lazarus before finishing Cronos: The New Dawn?
The expansion is a prequel, so its events occur before the base story. The publisher has not stated a save-file or completion requirement; ownership of the base game is the confirmed requirement.
Will my PS5 or Xbox save transfer into Lazarus?
No cross-platform or cross-generation save-transfer policy has been announced for the expansion. Treat each console ecosystem as its own purchase and save environment until the platform store provides explicit details.
Does the Lazarus price include future DLC or a Season Pass?
No Season Pass has been announced, and the $9.99 figure is for the Lazarus story DLC itself. There is also no announced Complete Edition that bundles it with the base game or Deluxe extras.
Can I buy Lazarus on Steam if I own the game on Epic Games Store?
No. The Steam dependency requires the Steam edition of Cronos: The New Dawn; an Epic or GOG license does not satisfy that storefront check.
Are French voices available in Lazarus?
Steam’s visible table marks French interface and subtitles but not full French audio. A published language report describes French text with English voice on Steam; console French audio has not been confirmed.
