Start by closing CONTROL Resonant and playing audio in another game, video, or app. If the same missing, quiet, distorted, crackling, delayed, stuttering, or misdirected sound appears elsewhere, troubleshoot the shared output device, operating-system settings, driver, HDMI path, or physical connection. If every other app sounds normal, concentrate on CONTROL Resonant’s settings and the checks for your platform.
On PC, check the game’s audio levels, Windows output routing, enhancements, spatial sound, format, drivers, connections, and game files. On PlayStation 5, update both the game and console and test Linear PCM. On Xbox Series X|S, fully quit the game to clear a possible Quick Resume state and test Stereo uncompressed. Use another headset, speaker, or connection only as an isolation test; you do not need to buy equipment.

What does the symptom comparison tell me?
The first comparison is more valuable than changing several settings at once. Use the table to identify whether the fault follows the game, a device, a connection, or an audio-processing feature.

Write down which comparison changed the symptom. That single observation prevents you from mixing a game setting problem with a failing cable or headset.

How do I fix CONTROL Resonant audio on PC?
Work through the checks in order, restarting the game after meaningful changes. The PC guide lists symptoms as missing, too quiet, distorted, crackling, stuttering, or cutting out; the same sequence also helps when sound is delayed or routed to the wrong device.
1. Establish a clean in-game baseline
- Open CONTROL Resonant and choose Options → Audio.
- Check Master, Effects, Speech, Music, and, where shown, Controller Speaker Volume. Make sure none is muted or set unusually low.
- For a neutral test, set Dynamic Range to Default, turn Mono Audio off, turn Hyperacusis Filter off, and set Bass and Treble to 0.
- Restart the game and replay the location where the fault is easiest to reproduce.
These are deliberate listening controls, not diagnostic errors. Night Mode narrows the gap between quiet and loud sounds and reduces bass. Mono Audio combines channels, removing left-right directionality, which can help when you need all channels in one ear or speaker but can make positional audio seem wrong. Hyperacusis Filter reduces higher-frequency sounds. After the baseline test, re-enable an option only when you want its intended listening effect.

2. Select the output in Windows, not in the game
CONTROL Resonant has no in-game output-device selector, according to Remedy. Close the game, then open Windows Settings → System → Sound and select the headset, speakers, television, or receiver you actually want to use. Confirm that device is not muted and that its level is high enough to hear.
Launch the game and open the Volume Mixer (in current Windows versions, use Settings → System → Sound → Volume mixer, or open it from the speaker icon). Find CONTROL Resonant, ensure its volume is up, and verify that its per-app output is the same device you selected as the Windows output. A game can be audible in the system test while its individual mixer route points to a disconnected monitor, controller, virtual cable, or old headset.
3. Remove processing that can create crackle, distortion, or dropouts
For the active Windows output, temporarily switch off Audio enhancements and Spatial sound, then test the same scene. Microsoft lists enhancements, unsupported formats, and driver problems among common causes of distorted or crackling audio; its troubleshooting guidance is available at Fix distorted or crackling audio in Windows.
Do not change several processing layers simultaneously after the first test. If disabling them fixes the problem, turn them back on one at a time: the Windows enhancement, spatial mode, headset surround utility, equalizer, or virtual mixer that reintroduces the fault is the likely trigger.

4. Test a format the hardware supports
In the selected device’s Windows properties, try another Default format supported by both the device and its driver. Remedy gives 24-bit, 48000 Hz as an example of a format to test and recommends using the device’s Test control. The exact choices vary by headset, sound card, television, and driver, so never select a rate or bit depth that the connected equipment does not support.
Use the same short, repeatable audio test after each format change. A stable result at one supported format but not another points away from game content and toward the driver or output chain.
5. Simplify the physical and wireless path
- Reconnect the preferred headset or speakers. For one test, connect directly to the PC rather than through a dock, adapter, capture device, or USB hub.
- Disconnect unused Bluetooth, HDMI, controller, virtual, and USB audio devices so Windows cannot select or route to the wrong endpoint.
- If you are using Bluetooth, test wired, USB, or HDMI audio when possible. This is an isolation test, not a recommendation to purchase a new headset.
- Close virtual mixers, equalizers, surround utilities, voice changers, streaming or recording software, manufacturer audio-control applications, and programs using a Bluetooth headset microphone. Such programs can intercept, resample, or compete for the same endpoint.
If direct wired audio works while Bluetooth does not, inspect Bluetooth pairing, battery level, radio interference, the headset profile selected by Windows, and whether another application has activated the headset microphone. Keep the working connection while you continue testing the game.
6. Correct a driver problem without guessing
If the sound broke immediately after a driver update, open Device Manager → your audio device → Properties → Driver and use Roll Back Driver only when Windows offers that option. If rollback is unavailable, obtain the driver for the exact PC, motherboard, sound card, headset, or other audio device and your Windows version from its manufacturer, install it, and restart.
Do not substitute a generic driver merely because its version number is newer. A driver intended for different hardware can remove format choices, disable microphone or surround functions, or create new crackling.
7. Verify the game files
If Windows audio works in other applications and the fault remains limited to CONTROL Resonant, run the launcher’s file-verification command. In Steam this is normally Library → CONTROL Resonant → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files; in the Epic Games Store it is normally Library → the game’s three-dot menu → Manage → Verify. Launcher labels can change, so use the verification instructions in Remedy’s PC article if your menu differs.

Let verification finish before launching the game again. It replaces missing or damaged files without changing the Windows output device, so it is useful only after the shared audio path has passed the other-app test.
How do I fix missing, delayed, or misdirected audio on PlayStation 5?
First play the PS5 home-screen sounds and another game or application. If those are also missing, distorted, delayed, or coming from the wrong direction, troubleshoot the headset, television, receiver, HDMI cable, and console output before changing CONTROL Resonant. If only the game is affected, use the following sequence from Remedy’s PlayStation 5 guidance.

- Review the game’s available volume, output, and accessibility settings, then restore them to a neutral/default arrangement and test again.
- Update CONTROL Resonant and the PS5 system software.
- Restart the console after the updates, rather than relying only on rest mode.
- Set the console to Linear PCM as the first basic output test. This creates a simple signal before you reintroduce surround or other processing.
- Once audio is stable, try another format only if every part of the HDMI chain—console, cable, television, soundbar, or receiver—supports it.
Keep the Linear PCM result as your reference. If a surround format causes delay or wrong-direction effects while Linear PCM is clean, the issue is more likely in the HDMI device, channel mapping, or format compatibility than in the game’s audio files.
How do I fix silent, distorted, delayed, or unbalanced audio on Xbox Series X|S?
Xbox troubleshooting has one extra game-state check: Quick Resume can preserve an interrupted audio state. Test another game or app and, if available, another headset, television, soundbar, or receiver. Then follow the steps in Remedy’s Xbox Series X|S guidance.
- Update CONTROL Resonant and the Xbox system, then restart the console.
- Open the Xbox guide, highlight CONTROL Resonant, choose the quit option, and confirm it is no longer running in Quick Resume. Relaunch it from the dashboard.
- Review the game’s audio settings and test the same scene again.
- Open Settings → General → Volume & audio output.
- For HDMI output and headset output, test Stereo uncompressed first.
- Use surround or spatial output again only after the basic stereo test works and the complete audio chain supports that mode.
If stereo uncompressed is clear but surround is silent, delayed, or unbalanced, check the television or receiver’s input mode and the headset’s own processing. The console can send a valid stereo signal while a downstream device rejects or misinterprets a surround format.

- Same game, different output: If another headset or television is clean, inspect the original device, its cable, firmware, or port.
- Same output, different content: If videos and other games are clean but CONTROL Resonant is not, return to the game’s levels, baseline options, file verification, and platform game-state checks.
- Same device, different connection: A wired, USB, or HDMI test that removes Bluetooth delay or dropouts points to the wireless path or profile.
- Direct connection versus hub: A direct connection that works identifies the dock, adapter, capture device, or USB hub as the next component to test.
- Processing on versus off: A difference after disabling enhancements or spatial sound identifies software processing as the variable, even when the hardware itself is functional.
Change one variable at a time and record the result. A short note such as “Bluetooth delayed, USB clear; enhancements off made no difference” is more useful than a list of every setting changed.
When should I contact support, and what should I include?
Contact Remedy’s Help Center support chat after the platform, device, connection, format, driver, and file checks fail to isolate or resolve the fault. Include the platform, your User ID, a precise symptom description, and a screenshot or video when possible. State whether another game or app reproduces the issue and identify the output device and connection used.
Support may request an error message or code, a Windows DxDiag report, or MSInfo. Reproduce the problem once immediately before collecting those details, and note the exact scene, menu, or action that triggers it. For PC cases, include whether the game was routed correctly in Volume Mixer and whether a supported format or a direct connection changed the result.
Do not omit an HDMI component or adapter from your description. A console-to-television-to-receiver chain can produce a symptom that does not appear with headphones, and support needs that chain to interpret a format-related failure.

Can Bluetooth alone cause delayed CONTROL Resonant audio?
It can, but delay is not proof that Bluetooth is defective. Wireless buffering, the headset profile used when its microphone is active, radio interference, or an intervening mixer can all add latency. A temporary wired, USB, or HDMI connection provides the cleanest comparison without requiring new hardware.
Is Mono Audio useful if I can hear from only one ear?
Yes. Mono Audio combines left and right channels so important dialogue and effects are not lost from the silent side. The trade-off is that directional cues disappear, so turn it off when you need positional information and both channels are working.
Should I reinstall CONTROL Resonant when only one sound effect is missing?
Verify the installation files first; a reinstall is a slower last resort and may not affect a Windows routing or output-format problem. Before reinstalling, confirm that the missing effect is reproducible after a full relaunch and that other game audio and applications work normally.
Why does changing the television or receiver input matter when headset audio is clear?
Headphones bypass much of the HDMI chain. If they work while television or receiver audio is delayed or unbalanced, inspect the selected HDMI input mode, channel mapping, and supported format on each device rather than treating the game installation as the only suspect.
