Comcast’s third quarter of 2026 was a mixed result: revenue and adjusted EBITDA declined from a year earlier, but net income and free cash flow rose. Peacock delivered its second consecutive profitable quarter, Universal’s The Odyssey became the studio’s highest-grossing film, and Comcast said its planned separation of NBCUniversal and Sky remains targeted for completion by the middle of 2027.
The figures come from Comcast’s October 22, 2026 earnings release, the accompanying earnings call and its SEC filing. The central question is whether stronger cash generation and improving streaming economics can offset pressure in broadband, advertising and other legacy businesses while the company executes a complex separation.

Did Comcast have a good quarter despite lower revenue?
It was a financially uneven quarter rather than a clear win or loss. Comcast’s reported revenue fell 6.1% year over year, and adjusted EBITDA fell 5.8%, but attributable net income increased 3.5% and free cash flow remained above $4 billion.
| Measure | Q3 2026 result | Year-over-year context |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $29.298 billion | Down 6.1% |
| Net income attributable to Comcast | $3.448 billion | Up 3.5% |
| Adjusted EBITDA | $9.106 billion | Down 5.8% |
| Adjusted earnings per share | $1.07 | Comcast’s reported Q3 figure |
| Free cash flow | $4.211 billion | Quarterly cash generation |
| Dividends | $1.2 billion | Paid during the period, according to Comcast |
The contrast matters because revenue and EBITDA are broad indicators of operating scale, while net income can also reflect items below operating profit. Comcast did not present the quarter as a uniform improvement: its co-CEOs emphasized cash generation, Peacock’s profitability and Universal’s film performance while acknowledging the work still required across the wider company.

Why did Comcast revenue fall even though net income rose?
The reported numbers measure different layers of the business. Revenue captures what Comcast brought in from customers and commercial activity; adjusted EBITDA reflects operating earnings before specified adjustments; net income includes additional items that can move differently from sales. A 3.5% increase in attributable net income therefore does not mean the company’s operating businesses grew across the board.
Comcast’s own risk language points to competitive broadband conditions, changes in consumer behavior, advertising demand, programming and licensing costs, regulation and litigation as factors that can affect results. Those pressures help explain why management’s message paired strong free cash flow with caution about the operating environment.

What drove the improvement?
Comcast said strong growth in distribution drove Peacock’s result. The company did not provide a single price, churn or average-revenue-per-user figure in the cited materials, so the subscriber total should be read as a scale and momentum indicator rather than a complete measure of customer economics.
What does the subscriber count include?
The 48 million figure is explicitly a paid-subscriber count. Comcast did not give a total account figure covering any free or promotional access in the earnings materials, so it should not be treated as the service’s total audience.
How much money did The Odyssey make?
The Odyssey had nearly $1.8 billion in worldwide box-office revenue year to date, according to Comcast. That performance made it Universal’s highest-grossing film of all time.

The film also helped Universal become the first studio to reach $5 billion in global box office during 2026. These are gross ticket-sales figures, not a disclosed measure of Universal’s profit: theaters, distribution partners, marketing expenses and production costs are not broken out in the earnings materials.
When will Comcast split NBCUniversal and Sky?
Comcast is targeting completion by the middle of 2027. On the October 22 earnings call, chief financial officer and co-CEO Mike Cavanagh said the transaction was in its execution phase and that the company was building stand-alone public-company infrastructure.
What the planned structure is intended to do
The proposed transaction would create two independent companies: one centered on NBCUniversal and the other on Sky. Management says separation is intended to give each company the financial strength and strategic flexibility to pursue its own growth priorities instead of operating inside the current combined structure.

What has Comcast done financially?
Comcast paused share repurchases beginning July 1 and expects that pause to last at least through the separation. The company reported $1.2 billion in dividends for the quarter. The buyback pause preserves capital while Comcast builds the stand-alone organizations and works through the transaction.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Is the mid-2027 date guaranteed?
No. “Middle of next year” is management’s target, not a completed closing date. Comcast’s safe-harbor language warns that competitive conditions, consumer behavior, advertising, programming and licensing agreements, regulation, litigation and execution risks connected with the separation could change the timing or outcome.
What should readers watch before the separation?
- Operating trends: whether broadband competition and changing household spending continue to pressure revenue.
- Peacock durability: whether profitability persists beyond a second quarter and whether paid-subscriber growth translates into sustainable economics.
- Content performance: whether Universal can follow The Odyssey with additional releases that support studio earnings and streaming engagement.
- Execution milestones: progress on stand-alone systems, public-company infrastructure and any required regulatory or legal steps.
- Capital allocation: how the buyback pause and ongoing dividends affect cash use while the transaction is prepared.
What does Comcast’s Q3 result mean overall?
The quarter shows a company with weaker reported sales and operating profit but meaningful cash generation, a newly profitable streaming platform and an unusually strong film asset. The NBCUniversal-and-Sky separation is moving from announcement to implementation, yet its target date and eventual benefits remain dependent on execution and external conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Peacock’s $261 million figure profit after all expenses?
It is adjusted EBITDA, Comcast’s operating-profit measure with specified adjustments, not GAAP net income. The earnings materials do not state Peacock’s separate GAAP net income for the quarter.
Does The Odyssey‘s box-office total equal Universal’s earnings from the film?
No. Worldwide box office is the gross paid by moviegoers. The reported figure does not show how receipts were divided with theaters and distributors or what remained after production and marketing costs.
Will Peacock remain part of Comcast after the NBCUniversal-and-Sky transaction?
Comcast describes the plan as a separation that would create an independent NBCUniversal company, which is the business associated with Peacock. The final legal structure and operating arrangements are still subject to the transaction’s completion.
What could delay the planned mid-2027 closing?
Comcast has identified regulation, litigation, licensing arrangements, competitive conditions, advertising and consumer behavior as potential influences on timing. Building stand-alone public-company infrastructure is also an execution task that must be completed before closing.
