Neither host is a universal winner. Cloudways is the stronger candidate when you need managed cloud infrastructure, a choice of underlying providers and adjustable server resources. NameHero is the better fit when a packaged shared-cloud plan, cPanel, LiteSpeed, included SSL and a low promotional first invoice match your site. They are different hosting models, so the useful answer depends on your traffic pattern, application, location, management preference and the price you will actually pay after the introductory term.
Cloudways lists configurable plans through DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode, AWS and Google Cloud, while NameHero sells predefined Starter, Plus, Turbo and Business Cloud packages. Compare the configuration your site needs—not the lowest number displayed on either homepage.

Cloudways wins for control and infrastructure choice; NameHero wins for a conventional cPanel experience and a simpler package structure. That is a conditional recommendation, not a performance verdict. The official information supports comparing features, resources and billing conditions, but it does not establish an independently audited speed or uptime winner.
Choose Cloudways when infrastructure flexibility matters
Cloudways’ Flexible platform manages applications on a cloud server you select. The pricing page names DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode, AWS and Google Cloud as available providers, with server size, region and usage affecting the bill. It supports WordPress, Magento, Laravel and PHP applications. Cloudways also presents Autonomous, a fully managed WordPress option with autoscaling.

Choose NameHero when a packaged cPanel plan is enough
NameHero positions Starter Cloud, Plus Cloud, Turbo Cloud and Business Cloud as shared cloud hosting packages. Its homepage promotes cPanel, automatic SSL, LiteSpeed, free website migration and a 30-day money-back offer. The plan page presents allowances such as websites, estimated monthly visits, RAM and NVMe storage, so the decision is primarily about matching your site to a predefined tier.
What is the difference between Cloudways and NameHero’s hosting models?
Cloudways is a managed layer over selectable cloud infrastructure; NameHero is packaged shared cloud hosting. That difference affects control, billing, scaling and how much server administration you perform.
| Dimension | Cloudways | NameHero |
|---|---|---|
| Basic model | Managed hosting with a selected cloud provider and server configuration | Predefined shared cloud plans |
| Control surface | Cloudways management panel for applications, servers and environments | cPanel-oriented account management |
| Applications | WordPress, Magento, Laravel and PHP are explicitly presented | Plan-based website hosting; verify application-specific requirements before ordering |
| Infrastructure choice | DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode, AWS or Google Cloud, subject to availability | Provider-managed shared cloud infrastructure |
| Scaling approach | Change server resources or provider configuration; Autonomous advertises autoscaling for WordPress | Move between packaged plans as your resource needs increase |
| Control panel expectation | Cloudways’ own management interface rather than a standard cPanel account | cPanel is advertised as included |
| Billing logic | Provider, server size, region, usage and possible add-ons influence cost | Plan price, billing term, introductory discount and renewal price influence cost |
This is why a direct “which is cheaper?” comparison can mislead. A Cloudways server and a NameHero shared plan may host the same content-management system while providing very different CPU contention, controls and upgrade paths.
How much will each host really cost?
Use the period you expect to keep the site, not just the first monthly figure. Cloudways pricing changes with provider, server size, region and consumption. NameHero’s advertised introductory prices are tied to a three-year billing cycle, and the homepage says the discount applies to the first invoice.
Cloudways pricing variables
The Cloudways pricing page displays provider-specific examples. At the time documented, DigitalOcean examples included a Micro plan at $11 per month and a Medium plan at $88 per month. These are page-specific examples, not universal prices for every region or server. AWS and Google Cloud pricing varies by region, and usage beyond included bandwidth allowances can create additional charges. Recheck the live calculator for the provider, location, server size and applications you intend to run.
Cloudways’ bill can also change when you add services or select capabilities described as add-ons or plan-specific. Budget for backups, bandwidth overages, storage growth and any optional support or performance features shown during checkout.

NameHero promotional pricing
NameHero’s homepage presents its cloud plans with prices based on a three-year billing cycle and states that the discount is valid for the first invoice. During the same period, the web-hosting plan page displayed Starter Cloud at $2.91 per month and Plus Cloud at $5.05 per month. Because the pages showed different offers, treat both numbers as time-sensitive advertisements, not a guaranteed rate.

| Cost question | Cloudways | NameHero |
|---|---|---|
| What sets the initial price? | Selected cloud provider, server resources, region and usage | Selected package and the promotional billing term |
| Example displayed price | DigitalOcean Micro: $11/month; Medium: $88/month on the cited pricing page | Starter Cloud: $2.91/month and Plus Cloud: $5.05/month on the cited plan page |
| Commitment shown with the offer | Pricing page presents flexible configurations; confirm current billing rules at checkout | Three-year billing cycle; homepage says the discount applies to the first invoice |
| Renewal amount | Not a single fixed figure; depends on the continuing configuration and usage | Not stated in the cited offer; obtain the renewal price before paying |
| Potential extras | Usage above allowances, region differences and optional/add-on features | Taxes, domain or other account services if selected; confirm the order summary |
For a fair total-cost calculation, write down the amount charged today, the date the promotional term ends, the renewal price, expected traffic, storage and bandwidth growth, and the cost of moving if the plan no longer fits. A low first invoice is not proof of a low three-year total.
Which host has the resources my site needs?
Start with workload measurements: application type, number of sites, peak concurrent visitors, database size, background jobs, media storage and geographic audience. A brochure allowance such as estimated monthly visits is not equivalent to a guaranteed concurrency limit.
Cloudways resource planning
Cloudways lets you select a server configuration and cloud provider rather than forcing every site into one shared package. That is useful for a store with a large database, a Laravel application with queue workers or several sites whose combined load exceeds a small shared account. Applications are described as unlimited subject to the capacity of the selected server, so “unlimited” does not mean unlimited CPU, memory or disk.
Recommended Free Tools
Provider and region selection also changes the practical result. A small server near your visitors can outperform a larger server on another continent for latency-sensitive requests, while a database-heavy application may need more memory even when page views are modest.
NameHero resource planning
NameHero’s plans present websites, estimated monthly visits, RAM and NVMe storage as package allowances. Select the tier whose stated limits cover your current sites and leave room for traffic spikes, backups and staging copies. If your application requires a particular PHP extension, database setting or long-running process, confirm that requirement with support before committing to a shared plan.
Shared hosting also means that the provider manages the underlying environment for multiple customers. That can simplify administration, but it gives you less control over server-level tuning than a configurable managed cloud server.
What management tools and features are included?
Both providers advertise managed conveniences, but the labels do not mean identical implementations. Check the exact plan and region before assuming an advanced feature is included.

| Feature | Cloudways presentation | NameHero presentation |
|---|---|---|
| Control panel | Cloudways platform management | cPanel included |

| Support | 24/7 support is listed; some support capabilities are plan-specific or add-ons | Support scope and channels should be confirmed for the chosen package |
| Migration | Free migration of a customer’s first website is advertised | Free website migrations are advertised |
Cloudways’ staging and application model can suit teams that clone, test and deploy changes regularly. NameHero’s cPanel and LiteSpeed combination may be more familiar to someone moving from another traditional shared host. Neither feature list by itself proves faster pages; theme, plugins, code, images, cache state and visitor location remain decisive.
How do migration and support compare?
Both companies advertise migration help, but the offers are worded differently and should be treated as provider claims rather than guarantees of a flawless move.
Cloudways migration scope
Cloudways says it will migrate a customer’s first website for free. Before scheduling, confirm whether your application, mail records, cron jobs, DNS changes and staging copies are included. A migration can be technically complete while DNS propagation, third-party webhooks or payment callbacks still need attention.
NameHero migration scope
NameHero lists free website migrations. Ask how many sites are covered, whether the source control panel must be cPanel, and whether the team moves databases, SSL configuration, cron tasks and email accounts. Get the scope in writing if your account contains more than a basic WordPress installation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesSupport questions to ask before purchase
- Is assistance available during your launch window and in your time zone?
- Will support investigate application errors, or only server and account issues?
- Can support help with a failed restore or DNS cutover?
- What response expectations apply to the plan you selected?
- Are advanced performance or troubleshooting services extra?
Cloudways explicitly lists 24/7 support, but its page also distinguishes plan-specific and add-on capabilities. NameHero’s cited pages emphasize included hosting features rather than a detailed support service-level description, so obtain those terms directly.
How important is server geography?
Choose a region close to the majority of your visitors and, where possible, close to external services your application calls. Lower network distance can reduce time to first byte, but it cannot compensate for an overloaded server or inefficient application.
Cloudways exposes region selection through the underlying provider, and the pricing page notes that AWS and Google Cloud prices differ by region. NameHero’s public plan presentation does not provide an equivalent region-and-price matrix in the cited material. Ask which locations are available for your package and whether moving regions later requires a migration.

Can third-party speed scores identify a winner?
No. A third-party comparison is useful context only when you understand how its numbers were collected. The October 2026 Prehost comparison reports TTFB figures calculated from Chrome UX Report data for August 2026, but that is not a controlled test of identical sites, server sizes, cache states, locations and measurement windows.

How can you run a fair Cloudways-versus-NameHero test?
If speed or stability will determine your purchase, test the same build under comparable conditions. Record every setting so the result can be reproduced.
- Clone the same site. Use the same CMS version, theme, plugins, database, media and PHP version on both accounts.
- Select comparable locations. Put each test site as close as possible to the same audience. Document the city or region and the underlying provider where Cloudways makes that visible.
- Standardize caching. Either configure equivalent page, object and browser caching or test uncached and cached states separately. Do not compare one site with a warm cache against another with an empty cache.
- Warm up both environments. Run the same requests before measuring so installation, image generation and cache creation do not distort the first sample.
- Measure realistic paths. Test the homepage, a database-heavy page, login or cart flows and an uncached request. Include a period of ordinary traffic and a controlled load test only if both providers permit it.
- Repeat from relevant locations. Collect multiple samples at different times and report medians and spread rather than a single fastest result.
- Record failures and recovery. Note timeouts, throttling, cache purges, support interventions and restore behavior, not just milliseconds.
- Compare the complete bill. Add server, bandwidth, backups, add-ons and taxes where applicable, then compare the amount for the same test period.
This approach answers “which host is faster for this site?” more reliably than importing a generic score.

Personal blog or brochure site
NameHero is a practical starting point if one or a few low-to-moderate-traffic sites fit a package’s website, visit, RAM and storage allowances and you want cPanel. Cloudways becomes more attractive when you expect to tune server resources, use a specific cloud region or run several applications on one managed server.
WooCommerce or another transactional store
Prioritize database memory, checkout reliability, backups, staging and support escalation. Cloudways’ selectable resources and staging presentation may fit a store that needs controlled changes, but you must size the server and account for usage charges. A NameHero plan can work when its limits and application requirements are confirmed; do not infer suitability from the promotional price alone.
Agency managing multiple client sites
Cloudways’ application model and provider choices can simplify separating sites while retaining one server-level configuration, subject to capacity. NameHero’s package website limits and cPanel workflow may be easier for clients who expect standard shared-host controls. Compare how each account handles permissions, staging, backups and handoff.

Developer running Laravel or custom PHP
Cloudways explicitly presents Laravel and PHP support and gives you a managed cloud environment to evaluate for the required runtime and workers. With NameHero, verify PHP versions, extensions, process limits, deployment method and scheduled jobs before purchase; the cited promotional pages do not detail those controls.
Site with unpredictable WordPress surges
Cloudways Autonomous advertises autoscaling for managed WordPress, which is worth investigating when demand is difficult to forecast. Clarify how scaling is billed and what limits apply. NameHero’s fixed plan tiers may be adequate for predictable traffic, but a sudden spike can require a plan change or provider assistance.
What are the main pitfalls?
- Comparing unlike products: A shared package and a configurable cloud server do not provide the same isolation or controls.
- Choosing by teaser price: NameHero’s figures are tied to a three-year first invoice, while Cloudways’ cost depends on configuration and use.
- Ignoring renewals: Record the post-promotion amount before checkout; neither cited offer should be treated as a permanent rate.
- Overreading “unlimited”: Cloudways’ unlimited applications remain constrained by the selected server’s CPU, memory and storage.
- Assuming migration is automatic: Confirm site count, mail, DNS, cron jobs, SSL and rollback arrangements.
- Using one speed score: Third-party TTFB data is not a matched benchmark for your build.
- Forgetting region effects: Location changes latency and can change Cloudways pricing, especially for AWS and Google Cloud.
- Leaving no exit plan: Keep an export, database backup and DNS access so you can move if limits or pricing stop fitting.
What should you check before ordering?
- List every site, application, database and background job you will host.
- Estimate normal and peak traffic, storage growth and bandwidth for the next 12 months.
- Identify your visitors’ main regions and the locations each provider can offer.
- Decide whether you need cPanel or prefer a managed cloud control panel.
- Price the full billing period, including renewal, overages, add-ons and taxes.
- Confirm SSL, backups, staging, caching and migration scope for the exact plan.
- Ask support about runtime versions, extensions, cron, email and resource limits.
- Define a test and rollback plan before changing DNS.
For current plan terms, consult Cloudways hosting plans, the NameHero homepage and the detailed NameHero web-hosting plans page. Prices, regions and included features can change, so verify them at checkout.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use my existing domain with either host?
Yes, hosting and domain registration are separate decisions. Keep the registrar where it is, lower the DNS TTL before migration, and change the relevant A or CNAME records only after the new site has been verified.
Does either provider include business email mailboxes?
The cited comparison pages do not establish mailbox allowances for either service. If email is essential, ask specifically about mailbox count, storage, spam filtering, IMAP/SMTP access and migration before ordering.
What happens if my site outgrows the chosen plan?
A Cloudways customer can review a larger server or different provider configuration, while a NameHero customer generally evaluates the next packaged tier. In both cases, check whether the change is online, requires downtime or triggers a new promotional or renewal price.
Should I put a staging copy on the same server as production?
Keeping staging on the same server is convenient but consumes the same CPU, memory and storage pool. For a busy store or a major release, schedule tests during low traffic and monitor resource use so staging does not compete with checkout requests.
