Cloud gaming and live casino platforms use a surprisingly similar delivery foundation, but they do not stream the same thing. Both send time-sensitive video to a browser or app, accept actions from a user, and rely on backend services to keep sessions and results synchronized. Cloud gaming renders a software game on remote GPUs and returns encoded frames. Live casino technology captures a physical dealer studio and coordinates that video with bets, game state, and operator systems. That distinction affects latency targets, integration design, device requirements, testing, and regulation. The shared infrastructure is best understood as a set of reusable building blocks—not as evidence that the two experiences are interchangeable.
What technology do cloud gaming and live casino platforms have in common?
The overlap is concentrated in delivery and coordination rather than in the content being delivered. A typical platform in either category needs servers, real-time video transport, a client interface, session management, and a way to associate user actions with the correct game event.

| Remote compute or hosting | Runs game instances, rendering engines, orchestration, and supporting services. | Hosts streaming, game-state, operator, wallet, and integration services while studio equipment produces the source video. |
| Real-time video | Encoded frames and audio generated by the game engine. | Encoded feeds from cameras covering a dealer, table, and other studio views. |
| Interactive return path | Controller, keyboard, mouse, or touch input sent to the remote game. | Bets, table controls, and game events sent to the platform before or during a round. |
| Client delivery | A browser or app decodes the stream and displays the game. | Desktop and mobile HTML5 interfaces present the stream, controls, and account functions. |
| Synchronization | Input, simulation state, rendered frame, and audio must remain in sequence. | Video timing must match betting windows, dealer actions, results, and settlement data. |
| Network edge and security | Edge placement, transport security, and capacity management reduce round-trip delay. | CDNs, edge connectivity, protected studio links, and resilient hosting distribute the broadcast and APIs. |
Amazon’s Amazon IVS betting and gaming material illustrates how managed live video can be paired with interactive gaming data. The existence of these common layers does not mean every provider uses the same protocol, cloud topology, or operational controls.
How does a cloud-gaming stream work from button press to video frame?
Cloud gaming moves the game itself away from the player’s device. The player’s device is primarily an input, decoding, and display endpoint.

- A session is allocated. An orchestration layer assigns the player to a running game instance, often near the player’s network region.
- Input travels upstream. A controller, keyboard, mouse, or touch event is sent over a low-latency channel to that instance.
- The remote game simulates the result. The game engine updates its world, physics, audio, and user interface on a CPU/GPU-equipped host.
- The GPU renders frames. The resulting images are encoded, commonly with hardware acceleration on the host.
- Frames and audio return downstream. A real-time transport carries the encoded media to the client, where software or hardware decoders display it.
- Telemetry closes the loop. The service measures connection health, input delay, frame delivery, and session status so it can adapt or recover.
Meta’s engineering description, published June 9, 2022, places edge sites, GPU hosting, orchestration, WebRTC, and secure real-time transport in this kind of architecture: Meta’s cloud-gaming infrastructure account. It is a dated provider description, not a universal specification.
Amazon GameLift Streams documentation describes browser delivery over WebRTC from cloud GPU instances and states a capability of up to 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second. That is a product capability statement, not a guarantee that every title, browser, encoder setting, or household connection will sustain those figures.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHow does a live casino platform deliver a dealer and a result?
Live casino starts with a physical event. Cameras capture a studio or table, production systems switch among views, and software ties the broadcast to the authoritative game state and wagering workflow.
- Studio capture creates the source. Multiple cameras, microphones, lighting, and production equipment record the dealer and table.
- Broadcast systems process the feed. Video is mixed, encoded, and sent into the delivery network with the timing needed for betting and game events.
- The game engine records state. The platform tracks open and closed betting phases, dealer actions, outcomes, and settlement data separately from the picture.
- The client combines views and controls. A player sees the live video alongside bet controls, balances, limits, and result information.
- Operator systems settle the session. Wallet, identity, reporting, risk, and customer-account services receive the relevant events through an integration boundary.
Pragmatic Play describes multi-camera production and desktop/mobile HTML5 support on its live casino page. The supplier states that “all Pragmatic Play Live Casino games are available on both desktop and mobile in HTML5”; that is the supplier’s own product statement, not a claim about every live casino service.
The same page gives a supplier-stated glass-to-glass latency of 1.5–2 seconds, subject to conditions. Glass-to-glass means the interval from an event captured at the studio to its appearance at the viewer’s screen; it does not, by itself, describe betting-request latency, settlement time, or the delay on a particular customer’s route.

What is the difference between the streamed workload and the return path?
The most important technical difference is what the platform is transporting and what the user’s action means.

| Question | Cloud gaming | Live casino |
|---|---|---|
| What is rendered or captured? | Software-rendered game frames generated after each simulation update. | Camera video of a real studio, with graphics and overlays added by production or client software. |
| What does an input trigger? | An immediate simulation change, such as movement, aiming, or menu navigation. | A bet, selection, or table action governed by a defined betting phase and game rules. |
| What is authoritative? | The remote game instance and its simulation state. | The game-state and wagering systems, not the player’s view of the broadcast. |
| What must stay synchronized? | Input, simulation, frame, audio, and sometimes multiple players’ states. | Video, betting windows, dealer actions, outcome data, and account settlement. |
| What happens when delay rises? | Controls feel sluggish, and fast games can become difficult to play. | Players may see a late table view or miss a betting window; the platform must preserve the rules and result integrity. |
This is why calling both services “interactive streaming” is accurate only at the infrastructure level. The cloud-gaming client is effectively a remote display for a running program, while a live-casino client is a synchronized viewing and wagering surface.
Which components are usually placed at the edge?
Edge placement brings compute, media ingress, or delivery capacity closer to users and studios. In cloud gaming, an edge site may host the GPU instance or reduce the distance to it. In live casino, edge and CDN services commonly distribute the encoded studio stream while protected connections carry feeds and APIs between the studio, platform, and operators.
Continent 8 describes network, CDN, edge, and security services for live-dealer and streaming deployments at its live-dealer and streaming overview. This is a provider-described design, not proof that every operator uses that provider or an identical topology.
Edge capacity does not remove every source of delay. Encoding queues, congestion on the last mile, Wi-Fi conditions, browser buffering, device decoding, and the distance between a studio and a wagering service can all remain material. A platform therefore needs measurements at each boundary rather than a single “latency” label.

How should latency claims be measured and compared?
Latency figures are meaningful only when the endpoints and conditions are stated. A vendor’s glass-to-glass result, a cloud-gaming input-to-photon measurement, and an API response time describe different intervals.
- Define the start event. It might be a camera exposure, a player input, a bet submission, or a server event.
- Define the end event. Possible endpoints include a decoded frame, a visible pixel, an accepted bet, or a settled result.
- Record the route. Region, access network, Wi-Fi or wired connection, device, browser, codec, and CDN path can change the outcome.
- Separate averages from worst cases. A median hides spikes that can cause a missed input or betting window.
- Test synchronization, not only speed. A fast picture that is out of sequence with the state feed is a correctness problem.
The 1.5–2-second live-casino figure cited above is Pragmatic Play’s stated output under its conditions. The up-to-1080p/60fps statement is Amazon Web Services’ capability description. Neither is an independent, side-by-side benchmark, and neither should be presented as an industry-wide result.
What are the main live-casino integration models?
Operators generally choose where the user interface, wallet connection, and platform functions live. Vivo Gaming describes two models on its technology page.
| Model | Where the experience runs | What the operator controls | Typical trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Data feed API | The operator’s own interface receives video and result data. | The operator keeps its UI and wallet flow while consuming the provider’s game and media feeds. | More control over presentation and account experience, with more integration and synchronization work. |
| Turnkey API | More platform functions run on the provider’s infrastructure. | The operator connects to a packaged service rather than implementing every function itself. | Faster operational integration can mean less control over underlying components and user-flow details. |
These labels are supplier terminology, so contract definitions matter. Before implementation, document which system is authoritative for player identity, wallet balance, game state, results, responsible-gambling controls, reporting, and incident recovery.
What do players’ devices and browsers need to do?
Both categories shift substantial work to the endpoint, but the work differs. A cloud-gaming client must capture responsive input, maintain a real-time media connection, decode frequent frames and audio, and display them with minimal buffering. A live-casino client must decode a broadcast while rendering controls, tables, overlays, account information, and state updates.

- Browser support: WebRTC capability and reliable media decoding are central to browser-based cloud-game delivery; HTML5 enables the stated desktop and mobile live-casino interfaces.
- Device performance: Hardware decoding can reduce power use and improve smoothness, but the exact result depends on the device, operating system, browser, codec, and stream settings.
- Network stability: Sustained bandwidth is not enough; jitter, packet loss, route changes, and queueing delay affect responsiveness and synchronization.
- Session recovery: Clients need a defined behavior when a tab sleeps, a mobile network changes, or the media connection drops.
“Available on mobile” should therefore be read as interface and product support, not as a promise of identical quality on every handset or cellular route.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does regulation affect where live-casino equipment can run?
Yes. For remote gambling, the physical and logical location of equipment can be a licensing issue, not merely an infrastructure preference. The UK Gambling Commission guidance on remote gambling equipment addresses equipment and cloud servers for Great Britain. Its scope is jurisdiction-specific, so an operator must check the rules that apply to each market rather than treating one country’s guidance as global law.
Architecture reviews should inventory studio hardware, game servers, wallet and identity services, monitoring, backups, and cloud regions. They should also record who can access each system, how events are retained, and how the operator demonstrates that the approved equipment and controls remain in the declared locations.

How can a team choose the right architecture?
A useful decision process starts with the workload and the control boundary, then validates performance and compliance.
- Classify the source. Decide whether you are transporting rendered software frames, physical studio video, or both.
- Map authoritative state. Identify the system that decides a game result, accepts an input or bet, and records settlement.
- Choose the integration boundary. For live casino, compare a feed into your own UI with a provider-hosted turnkey model; for cloud gaming, define which orchestration, identity, and catalog services remain yours.
- Set measurable targets. Specify input-to-display, glass-to-glass, event-to-result, reconnect, and synchronization metrics with test conditions.
- Design for failure. Define what the user sees during a dropped stream, delayed state message, duplicate request, or unavailable game instance.
- Validate geography and licensing. Confirm that studios, servers, cloud regions, support access, and retained records meet the relevant jurisdictional requirements.
- Run route-specific tests. Test representative devices and networks in each launch region; do not substitute a supplier capability figure for your own acceptance test.
This process prevents a common design error: selecting a media protocol first and discovering later that wallet, game-state, or regulatory requirements cannot be reconciled with it.

What should an operator ask a platform supplier before signing?
- Which latency number is quoted, and where are its start and end points?
- Are video and game-state channels timestamped and reconciled by the same service?
- Which regions host GPUs, studios, APIs, wallets, logs, and backups?
- What browser, codec, resolution, frame-rate, and mobile combinations are supported?
- Who owns the player-facing UI, identity flow, wallet calls, and responsible-gambling controls?
- How are duplicate bets or repeated input requests handled after reconnect?
- What evidence is available for capacity, failover, security controls, and incident reporting?
- Which capabilities are product-specific statements rather than independently measured guarantees?
Answers to these questions expose the real architecture more reliably than a shared label such as “real-time streaming.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a live casino use the same WebRTC setup as cloud gaming?
It can use WebRTC or another real-time transport, but the protocol alone does not solve the harder synchronization problem. Live casino still has to align the broadcast with betting phases, game-state messages, and settlement, while cloud gaming must align input with simulation and rendered frames.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Is 1080p at 60 frames per second guaranteed for every cloud game?
No. The cited capability is an upper product statement from Amazon GameLift Streams, not a promise for every title or connection. Codec settings, device decoding, congestion, and the player’s route can produce a lower effective resolution or frame rate.
Who controls the wallet in a live-casino data-feed integration?
In the feed model described by Vivo Gaming, video and results are placed into the operator’s own interface and wallet flow. The contract should still specify which service is authoritative for balance, bet acceptance, reversals, and settlement because those details determine how disputes and retries are handled.
Does locating servers closer to players guarantee a fairer game?
No. Edge placement can reduce transport delay, but fairness depends on authoritative game-state controls, consistent event ordering, auditable records, and the rules of the relevant jurisdiction. A short network path cannot compensate for an out-of-sync or poorly governed wagering system.
