Cloud gaming can cost anywhere from a Prime membership or a free tier to more than $20 per month, depending on whether the service supplies games or simply streams hardware for games you already own. Xbox Game Pass combines a catalog with cloud play, NVIDIA GeForce NOW mainly streams supported PC games from your existing stores, and Amazon Luna Standard is included with Prime while Luna Premium adds a larger catalog.
The price shown at checkout is only part of the budget. Monthly cloud-hour limits, games outside a catalog, premium-hour overages, storage, taxes, regional pricing and a compatible controller can all add cost. The figures below reflect official information available on October 25, 2026; catalogs, limits, prices and availability can change by country and platform.

How much does cloud gaming cost in 2026?
There is no single cloud-gaming price because the major services sell different things. Game Pass charges for access to a changing game library plus cloud play. GeForce NOW charges primarily for streaming performance and session time while you provide a supported game from a linked store. Luna puts a curated library inside Prime and sells a separate Premium tier for broader access.
| Service | What the subscription mainly provides | Cloud-play allowance or access rule | Known price information | Typical extras |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Xbox Game Pass | Game catalog, cloud gaming and, by tier, console or PC benefits | Official page lists 5 hours/month for Essential, 10 for Premium and 15 for Ultimate | Essential starts at $10/month; Premium is listed at $14.99/month; Ultimate was announced at $22.99/month in April 2026. Regional prices may differ. | Games outside the catalog, additional cloud hours after the planned November 2026 change, taxes and compatible hardware |
| NVIDIA GeForce NOW | Cloud PC performance for supported games in your connected stores | Performance and Ultimate include 100 hours/month, with up to 15 hours rollover | No current official US retail listing was published; day passes are available in some markets | Additional premium hours and persistent storage |
| Amazon Luna | Curated streaming library, family games and streaming for purchased titles | Standard is included with Prime; Premium expands the library | Prime membership or a separate Premium subscription, with market-specific pricing | Premium upgrade and any Prime or Premium price changes in your market |
These are not equivalent plans. A low Game Pass price may be better for someone who wants included games, while a GeForce NOW membership can be a better fit if the games are already in a supported Steam, Epic, Ubisoft, Xbox or other connected library.

What is included with Xbox Game Pass cloud gaming?
Game Pass is the most catalog-oriented option: you pay for a tier that includes games and then use cloud gaming for supported titles. Microsoft’s April 21, 2026 announcement says Ultimate includes hundreds of games on Xbox and PC, current Call of Duty titles, in-game benefits, online console multiplayer, unlimited Xbox Cloud Gaming and major day-one releases. The exact library and benefits depend on region and platform.
How the Game Pass tiers differ
| Tier | Catalog and benefits described by Xbox | Cloud hours listed on the current cloud page |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | More than 50 games; starts at $10/month | 5 hours per month |
| Premium | 200-plus games; $14.99/month in the cited Xbox guide | 10 hours per month |
| Ultimate | 400-plus games, day-one releases, online console multiplayer, EA Play, Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics | 15 hours per month |
Microsoft also announced that Game Pass Ultimate would drop from $29.99 to $22.99 per month and PC Game Pass from $16.49 to $13.99 per month, with prices varying by region. Those figures are the announced recurring prices, not a promise that every country will display the same amount.
What happens to cloud hours?
Xbox’s September 3, 2026 announcement says the revised inclusion of cloud gaming begins in November 2026: 15 hours for Ultimate, 10 for Premium and 5 for Essential. Additional cloud playtime is to be sold through the Xbox Store, but the announcement did not publish the overage price or package sizes. Check the account page for your market when the change reaches you.
Which Xbox games cost extra?
A game that is cloud-playable but not included in your Game Pass catalog must be purchased separately. Buying it does not automatically mean every title is available to stream: cloud support, region and platform still determine whether the play button appears. Promotional introductory rates, taxes and billing-term discounts can also change the amount charged.
How does GeForce NOW pricing work?
GeForce NOW is principally a streaming-performance subscription, not an all-you-can-play game catalog. You connect supported storefront accounts and launch games you own or can install through supported services. Before subscribing, verify that the exact edition of a desired game is supported and present in your account.

What the paid memberships add
NVIDIA lists Free, Performance and Ultimate memberships, with day passes in some markets. Performance and Ultimate members receive 100 hours of monthly playtime and can roll over up to 15 hours. Premium features include higher resolution and frame rates, ray tracing, DLSS, Reflex, faster access, saved graphics settings, supported mods and Install-to-Play for thousands of opted-in Steam games.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
After the monthly allowance is used, NVIDIA says members can buy additional premium playtime or continue with a free-user experience until the allowance resets. The price of extra hours is market-specific in the cited information, so do not assume that a particular overage rate applies in your country.
Persistent storage is a separate charge
Install-to-Play and saved installations can require persistent storage. NVIDIA lists these add-ons at $2.99 per month for 200 GB, $4.99 for 500 GB and $7.99 for 1 TB. They are recurring storage charges in addition to the membership, and the listed dollar amounts may not be the checkout price in every region.
Why ownership changes the total
With GeForce NOW, a subscription can still leave you paying for individual games. A title might be free-to-play, included in a separate PC subscription, purchased during a sale or already owned; those are different cost paths. Make a list of the games you actually intend to play and check each one’s supported store and streaming status before comparing membership prices.
Is Amazon Luna free with Prime?
Amazon Luna Standard is included with Prime, rather than being a completely separate free service. Standard provides a curated cloud-streaming library, GameNight family and party games, PC games that can be claimed and kept, and streaming for purchased games. The selection and eligibility vary by market.

What Luna Premium adds
Luna Premium includes everything in Standard plus a larger game library. It is available to both Prime and non-Prime members, so Prime is not a prerequisite for the upgrade. The practical cost comparison is therefore Prime membership versus Prime plus Premium, or Premium alone if you do not subscribe to Prime.
When Premium is worthwhile
Premium makes sense when the Standard rotation does not contain enough of the games you want. Because Amazon describes the catalog as market-dependent, inspect the library shown for your account rather than relying on a US list or an older review. Streaming a game you purchased is a different benefit from receiving that game in the subscription catalog.
What costs extra after you subscribe?
Cloud gaming’s advertised monthly fee is rarely the complete cost. Check these categories before starting a trial or paid month.
- Games outside a catalog: Game Pass titles not included in your tier must be bought separately. GeForce NOW generally requires ownership or access through a supported store. Luna can stream purchased games, but that purchase remains yours to fund.
- Cloud-hour overages: Xbox plans to sell additional playtime through the Xbox Store after the November 2026 changes; the cited announcement did not state prices. GeForce NOW allows additional premium-hour purchases after the included allowance.
- Storage: GeForce NOW persistent storage costs $2.99/month for 200 GB, $4.99 for 500 GB or $7.99 for 1 TB according to NVIDIA’s listed add-ons.
- Higher Luna access: The larger Luna Premium library requires the Premium tier instead of relying only on Prime-included Standard.
- Hardware: A compatible device and controller are separate purchases if you do not already own them.
- Taxes and regional billing: Sales tax, value-added tax, currency conversion, introductory promotions and annual or other billing discounts can change the effective total.
What device, controller and internet connection do you need?
Xbox says cloud gaming requires a supported device, an internet connection and a compatible controller connected by Bluetooth or USB. Its stated minimum download speed is 10 Mbps; 20 Mbps is recommended for best quality on some devices. That bandwidth figure is a baseline, not a guarantee of smooth play, because Wi-Fi congestion, latency and household traffic also matter.
Budget for the equipment you already lack
- Use a supported phone, tablet, computer, console, browser or TV device for the service and region you choose.
- Pair a compatible controller by Bluetooth or connect it by USB where supported.
- Prefer a wired connection or a strong 5 GHz/6 GHz Wi-Fi signal when possible, especially for high-resolution streams.
- Check whether your TV streaming device is supported before buying it; compatibility differs by service and country.
GeForce NOW and Luna also have device and regional support lists. A subscription cannot overcome an unsupported operating system, storefront or controller, so confirm those details before paying.

Which cloud gaming subscription fits your play style?
| If your priority is… | Start by evaluating… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A large included catalog and day-one releases | Game Pass Ultimate | It combines hundreds of games, listed cloud hours and several console/PC benefits. |
| Lower monthly entry cost with a smaller catalog | Game Pass Essential or Premium | Essential starts at $10/month and Premium is listed at $14.99/month, but their cloud-hour allowances are lower than Ultimate. |
| Best streaming features for games you already own | GeForce NOW Performance or Ultimate | Paid tiers emphasize resolution, frame rate, graphics features and access to supported owned games. |
| Family or party play with an existing Prime membership | Luna Standard | Standard is included with Prime and includes GameNight content. |
| A broader Luna catalog | Luna Premium | Premium adds a larger library and can be bought by Prime and non-Prime members. |
Count hours as well as games. Someone who streams every evening may hit a monthly allowance quickly, while a person who plays occasionally may value a free or Prime-included tier more than higher frame rates.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How can you calculate the real monthly and annual cost?
Use the recurring subscription price as the starting point, then add only the extras your usage requires. For the announced US Xbox prices, twelve months of Ultimate at $22.99 would total $275.88 before tax, while twelve months of PC Game Pass at $13.99 would total $167.88. These are simple calculations from the announced monthly figures, not guaranteed regional annual prices.
- Write down the checkout price in your country, including tax.
- Multiply by the number of months you expect to keep the service.
- Add games you would otherwise purchase, but only when they are not included in the catalog you selected.
- For GeForce NOW, add expected premium-hour overages and any persistent-storage tier.
- Include a controller, streaming device or upgraded network equipment if you do not already have compatible hardware.
- Recheck the total after promotions end; an introductory rate may not be the recurring charge.
Do not compare a catalog subscription with a hardware-streaming subscription using price alone. Compare the cost of the games you would actually play, the hours you need and the performance you expect.

How do you avoid unexpected charges and access problems?
- Verify the local offer: Open the service’s account or signup page while signed in from your country and record the recurring price, tax treatment and renewal date.
- Audit the library: Search for your specific games, editions and storefronts. “Cloud playable” does not mean every version is included.
- Check the hour policy: Note the monthly allowance, rollover rule and overage method. Xbox’s additional-hour pricing was not yet published in the cited September announcement.
- Test your network: Meet Xbox’s 10 Mbps minimum, and use the recommended 20 Mbps target where applicable. Test at the time you normally play.
- Confirm controller support: Pair the controller before subscribing so you do not discover a hardware requirement after payment.
- Track renewals and add-ons: Storage and Premium upgrades can recur monthly even when a base subscription is canceled or changed.
Are cloud gaming subscriptions worth the cost?
They are usually worthwhile when they replace a larger upfront hardware purchase, give you access to games you would buy anyway, or let you play on devices you already own. They are less attractive when your favorite games are unsupported, you need more cloud hours than the plan includes, or your internet connection regularly produces lag.
The clearest value distinction is the business model: Game Pass bundles a catalog, GeForce NOW sells streamed PC capability around games you supply, and Luna combines Prime-included access with an optional larger catalog. Choose the model that matches your existing games first, then compare the monthly fee and extras.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I play a game I bought separately through Xbox cloud gaming?
Only if that title is supported for cloud play in your region and on your platform. A purchase can be required when the game is outside the Game Pass catalog, and buying it does not by itself guarantee cloud availability.
What happens when GeForce NOW reaches its monthly hour limit?
NVIDIA says you can purchase additional premium playtime or continue using a free-user experience until the allowance resets. Performance and access may therefore change after the included hours are consumed.
Do I need Prime to subscribe to Luna Premium?
No. Amazon says Premium is available to Prime and non-Prime members. Prime includes Luna Standard, while Premium is the separate option with the larger catalog.
Are the advertised cloud-gaming prices the same in every country?
No. Xbox explicitly says prices, plans, libraries and availability vary by region, and Microsoft’s announced figures may differ at checkout. Taxes, currency and local promotions can also change the final recurring amount.
