For the modern story, buy Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade first and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth second. Intergrade contains the first remake game and Yuffie’s FF7R EPISODE INTERmission; Rebirth is the second installment. The upcoming third game, Final Fantasy VII Revelation, is scheduled for April 8, 2027, so it is a preorder rather than part of a finished trilogy. If you want the complete 1997 story in one purchase, choose the original Final Fantasy VII. Your best choice depends on whether you want the original adventure, the modern three-game retelling, a physical PS5 package, or immediate access while waiting for the final installment.

Use this order of preference:
- Want the complete original plot in one game? Buy the original Final Fantasy VII. The upgraded Steam edition keeps the original story and adds optional conveniences such as 3× speed, encounter suppression and battle assists. Steam’s product page identifies those features.
- Want the modern retelling in narrative order? Start with Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, then play Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Intergrade is the normal entry point because it contains the first installment and the Yuffie episode.
- Want both released remake games on PS5 discs? Look for the physical Twin Pack, but treat the Square Enix listing’s “currently unavailable” status as important. Do not assume the displayed “from $59.99” is a currently available retailer price.
- Want to reserve the whole remake project? The digital Remake Series Trilogy Edition was announced at $84.99 with immediate access to the first two games. It is a preorder for the third game, not a claim that Revelation has launched.
- Want to play only Rebirth? It is officially described as standalone and includes a recap, so it can be played without first owning Remake. The story is easier to follow in order, however, and starting with Intergrade gives you the intended setup and Yuffie’s additional episode.
What is the difference between the original FFVII and the remake project?
The original Final Fantasy VII is a single, complete 1997 role-playing game. The modern project is a substantially expanded reimagining split across three separate games: Remake, Rebirth and the unreleased Revelation. Therefore, Remake is not the whole original game, and the original is not a “complete edition” of the remake trilogy.
The original game
The original is the straightforward choice for one self-contained journey. Square Enix’s September 2026 announcement says the original has sold more than 15.7 million copies worldwide; that figure refers to the original game, not Rebirth or the remake trilogy. Square Enix’s announcement provides that qualification.

The upgraded PC edition on Steam retains the original story while offering optional 3× speed, the ability to turn encounters off and battle assists. Those are convenience settings, not additional story content, so choose this edition when you value the complete classic structure over the modern remake’s expanded scenes and combat.
The modern three-game retelling
Remake Intergrade covers the first portion of the retelling and adds the Yuffie-focused FF7R EPISODE INTERmission. Rebirth continues the story as the second installment. Revelation is scheduled for April 8, 2027, subject to change, and is not available to play as of October 30, 2026. The announced date is documented in Square Enix’s release notice.

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Does Intergrade include the Yuffie DLC?
Yes. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade bundles the first remake game with Yuffie’s FF7R EPISODE INTERmission. That is why Intergrade is the safest modern starting purchase instead of assuming an older PS4 Remake listing contains every add-on.
What Intergrade contains
- The first remake installment, Final Fantasy VII Remake.
- Yuffie’s separate INTERmission episode.
- The current Intergrade release across PS5, PC, Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, with Xbox-on-PC support listed for the 2026 releases.
Square Enix’s platform announcement lists the newer versions, including Switch 2 and Xbox availability, at this official release page. The older PS4 Remake product is a different package; do not infer that buying or upgrading it automatically grants INTERmission.
Can you start with Rebirth?
Yes. Square Enix calls Final Fantasy VII Rebirth “a standalone game that welcomes fans and newcomers alike” and provides an in-game recap. That makes a direct purchase possible, but first-time players seeking story order should still begin with Intergrade and then move to Rebirth.
Starting with Rebirth means meeting the modern version of the cast and world without playing the first remake installment. The recap supplies context, while Intergrade supplies the preceding events and the Yuffie episode. Rebirth is therefore a practical entry point for someone who already knows the original or wants to play on a platform where only Rebirth is currently being considered.
The publisher’s FAQ and platform information are available on the official Rebirth page. It is also available on PS5, PC, Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, with Xbox-on-PC support announced for the 2026 releases; older articles that describe Rebirth as PS5-only are out of date.
Is the FFVII remake series complete?
No. Two games are released, and the third is scheduled rather than launched. Intergrade and Rebirth are playable now; Revelation is announced for April 8, 2027.

What the trilogy preorder means
Square Enix announced a digital Remake Series Trilogy Edition preorder at $84.99 in September 2026. The announcement said buyers received immediate access to Intergrade and Rebirth, while the third game would become available at launch. That is an announced price, not a promise that every store will show the same amount on October 30, 2026. Confirm the current checkout contents, region and price before paying.
The announcement said trilogy preorders were available for PS5, Xbox and PC at that time, with Switch 2 digital preorders opening later. Check the store page for the exact platform version rather than assuming a purchase transfers between console families. Details are in Square Enix’s announcement.
Which platforms have Intergrade and Rebirth?
Both released remake games are now listed for PS5, PC, Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S. Xbox-on-PC and Xbox Play Anywhere support are confirmed for the 2026 releases. Platform availability is no longer a reason to assume that Rebirth must be played on PS5.
| Platform | What the current information establishes | Buying implication |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 | Intergrade and Rebirth are available; a physical two-game Twin Pack is specifically listed. | Best fit for someone who wants the named physical Twin Pack and the console versions. |
| PC | Intergrade and Rebirth are available; Rebirth’s requirements include a 155 GB SSD. | Check drive space and hardware before downloading Rebirth. |
| Switch 2 | Both games are listed, with TV, tabletop and handheld modes documented for the platform. | Check Nintendo’s listed file sizes and available storage. |
| Xbox Series X|S | Both games are listed for Xbox Series consoles; Xbox-on-PC and Play Anywhere support are announced for the 2026 versions. | Buy the Xbox-specific listing and verify the store’s entitlement wording. |
These platform details come from Square Enix’s Intergrade announcement and Rebirth product information.
Should you buy physical or digital?
Choose physical when resale, disc ownership or a shelf copy matters; choose digital when immediate access, preload and avoiding disc swaps matter. The important distinction is package contents: a disc or download name does not by itself tell you whether INTERmission, future access or collectible extras are included.
PS5 Twin Pack
The specifically named PS5 physical Remake Intergrade & Rebirth Twin Pack contains both released games and INTERmission. Square Enix’s direct listing showed “from $59.99” and simultaneously marked the product “currently unavailable” when checked. Treat that figure as a listing reference, not a guaranteed current retailer price or stock status. The product page is here.
Digital purchases
Digital storefronts sell the games separately and also carry the announced trilogy preorder. Read the included-games line before checkout, especially when a listing uses “Remake,” “Intergrade,” “Rebirth,” “Trilogy” or “Premium” in its title. Revelation is not part of a normal two-game purchase unless the listing expressly identifies the trilogy preorder.
Deluxe and collector packages
Rebirth’s physical Deluxe edition includes an art book, mini soundtrack and SteelBook. The Square Enix Store-exclusive Collector’s edition adds a Sephiroth collectible and specified digital items. These extras do not add required story chapters, so pay for them only if the physical materials or collectible are worth the premium to you. See the publisher’s Rebirth store page for the edition descriptions.

Revelation’s announced physical Deluxe edition likewise includes a soundtrack, art book and SteelBook. Its digital Premium editions emphasize a future Story Expansion Pass and other digital benefits. Those are preorder benefits for a game scheduled in 2027, not content available to play today.
Do you need to rebuy Remake on PS5?
Not necessarily. A qualifying PS4 digital owner can receive the PS5 Remake upgrade under the PlayStation listing’s terms. A PS4 disc owner needs a PS5 with a disc drive and must insert the disc to use the upgrade.
The upgrade alone should not be treated as an INTERmission entitlement. The episode requires the PS5 game, and qualifying owners can purchase it separately. Check the eligibility and add-on wording on your account before buying Intergrade again. The relevant PlayStation listing is available here.
This distinction matters when comparing an inexpensive PS4 copy with Intergrade: the former may reduce the cost of obtaining the base PS5 game, while the latter is the clearer all-in-one purchase for the first remake game plus Yuffie’s episode.
What storage and performance requirements matter?
Storage is the most concrete platform difference documented in the current product information. PC Rebirth requires a 155 GB SSD, while Nintendo lists the Switch 2 file sizes separately for each game.
| Game and platform | Published storage information | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Rebirth on PC | 155 GB SSD required | Reserve that capacity on an SSD before installation; it is a product requirement, not a measured average install. |
| Intergrade on Switch 2 | 90.4 GB listed by Nintendo | Nintendo’s storefront figure, checked in 2026; actual free space on a particular system can differ. |
| Rebirth on Switch 2 | 91.5 GB listed by Nintendo | Keep enough system or compatible-card space for the listed download. |
| Revelation on Switch 2 physical Game-Key Card | At least 130 GB free for the first-launch download | This requirement applies to the announced future Revelation Game-Key Card, not automatically to every Switch 2 physical release. |
Square Enix documents PC graphics options, support for up to 120 frames per second on sufficiently capable systems and PS5 Pro enhancements for Rebirth. Those are supported capabilities, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate on every computer or display. Consult the official Rebirth specifications before choosing PC hardware.
Nintendo lists TV, tabletop and handheld modes for the Switch 2 versions. The documented modes establish portability, but they do not establish comparative frame rates against PS5, Xbox or PC.
Does the Switch 2 physical edition require a download?
For Revelation, yes: Square Enix says the future Switch 2 physical release uses a Game-Key Card, requiring a first-launch download and at least 130 GB of free space. That disclosure is specific to Revelation‘s announced physical version; do not apply it to every Switch 2 Final Fantasy VII cartridge without a separate product statement.

Those are storefront file-size figures, so check the console’s available storage and the exact physical or digital product description before ordering. The Nintendo listing for Intergrade is here, and the Game-Key Card storage requirement appears in the Revelation store listing.

Playing Remake is not an access requirement for Rebirth, and the games do not provide full character or save-file progression transfer. Earlier Remake or INTERmission saves can qualify for specified summon bonuses in Rebirth under Square Enix’s PS5 and PC conditions.

Which bonuses and early-purchase offers are still valid?
Do not assume a launch bonus is attached to every current listing. The January 2026 Intergrade digital early-purchase offer that included the original game ended on January 31, 2026.
On the Switch 2 physical store page, Square Enix identifies the booster-containing Day One Edition as sold out there. The regular Standard Edition does not include that booster pack. The platform announcement is documented at Square Enix’s Switch 2 release page.
Is Crisis Core Reunion part of the remake trilogy?
No. Crisis Core –Final Fantasy VII– Reunion is an HD-remastered prequel. It is optional context, not “part one,” “part three” or a substitute for either the original game or the modern remake installments.

Which buying route fits your situation?
You want one finished story tonight
Choose the original Final Fantasy VII. It is the only option in this guide that delivers the 1997 adventure as one complete game. Use the Steam conveniences if you want to reduce grinding or speed through familiar sections, but remember that they do not turn it into the modern remake.

You want the modern story in order
Buy Intergrade, play the main game and INTERmission, then buy Rebirth. This route avoids confusion about what the first installment contains and gives you the Yuffie episode without a separate add-on decision.
You already own a qualifying PS4 copy
Check the PlayStation upgrade terms first. A digital PS4 owner may obtain the PS5 game under the listing’s eligibility rules; a disc owner needs a disc-drive PS5 and the original disc. Price the separate INTERmission purchase against Intergrade before deciding which route costs less.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYou want discs for both released games
Search for the exact PS5 physical Twin Pack name and verify seller, region, stock and contents. The publisher listing was unavailable when checked, so a third-party listing may not reflect the direct-store status or the same price.
You are comfortable waiting for the conclusion
Compare the current trilogy preorder with buying Intergrade and Rebirth separately. The announced $84.99 figure included immediate access to both released games, but checkout prices and platform availability can change before you place the order. Revelation remains scheduled for April 8, 2027, not available now.
You prioritize portability
Choose the Switch 2 versions and budget the Nintendo-listed 90.4 GB for Intergrade and 91.5 GB for Rebirth. For the future Revelation Game-Key Card, plan for at least 130 GB of free space for the required download.
You prioritize PC graphics options
Choose the PC release if your system meets Rebirth’s 155 GB SSD requirement and can support the desired graphics settings. Up-to-120-FPS support is documented for sufficiently capable systems, but the actual result depends on the computer and display.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the original Final Fantasy VII spoil the remake trilogy?
The original and the remake project tell related versions of the same broader adventure, so the original reveals major story developments that the modern games may reinterpret. Buy the original first only if you are comfortable with that overlap; choose Intergrade first if preserving the remake’s surprises matters more.
Can I buy Rebirth without owning Intergrade?
Yes. Rebirth is sold as a standalone game and includes a recap, so no Intergrade license is required to launch it. You will not receive Intergrade or the Yuffie episode unless your purchase specifically lists them.
Does a PS4 Remake save unlock all Rebirth content?
No. Earlier saves can qualify for specified summon bonuses, but the games do not promise complete character, equipment or story-progression transfer. Keep the qualifying save on the console or PC account and platform covered by the publisher’s conditions.
Is the $84.99 trilogy price guaranteed at every store?
No. $84.99 was the price announced for the digital trilogy preorder in September 2026. Storefront currency, regional pricing, promotions and the contents shown at checkout can change, so verify the current listing before ordering.
