What does “player choice” mean in these two RPGs?
Choice can mean at least four different things: changing the story, carrying consequences into later games, defining the character who represents you, and deciding which relationships or personal boundaries matter to the protagonist. Treating those as one score hides the important differences between these releases.

Electronic Arts presents Mass Effect Legendary Edition as a single-player package containing the base content of Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, plus more than 40 pieces of downloadable content. Its product description says, “Your choices seamlessly travel from one game to the next.” That is a promise of continuity: decisions made early can remain part of the context for later missions, relationships and the galaxy’s fate.
The Veilguard uses a different structure. It tells a standalone Dragon Age story through Rook, a character whose faction, background, class, lineage and appearance affect how the adventure is framed. BioWare says a chosen faction changes narrative, dialogue and gameplay interactions. The game therefore concentrates agency inside a new story rather than asking you to reconstruct a complete state from several earlier releases.

Neither approach guarantees that every decision creates a dramatic alternate ending. EA’s Legendary Edition page does not promise that every choice produces a large, unique outcome, and the documented Veilguard features do not establish a complete map of every branch. The useful question is what kind of continuity and expression you want to see.
Do my choices carry over in Mass Effect Legendary Edition?
Yes. The defining choice system in Legendary Edition is cross-game continuity: Shepard’s decisions are designed to travel from the first game through the second and third. The package includes all three remastered single-player campaigns and more than 40 DLC items, so the intended experience is a connected trilogy rather than three unrelated campaigns.
That continuity can affect the context in which later missions, alliances and personal relationships are presented. Within the new adventure, faction selection is a concrete source of variation. BioWare says the faction you choose affects narrative, dialogue and gameplay interactions. That makes the choice meaningful at the level of how Rook is introduced, how groups respond and which role-play cues are available, even though it is not the same as importing a decade of previous saves.
Which game gives more consequential decisions?
Mass Effect Legendary Edition offers the broader time horizon; The Veilguard offers more documented control over the new protagonist and the social context around them. Calling one “more consequential” without specifying the scale of consequence is therefore misleading.
In Legendary Edition, consequence is cumulative. The three-game structure lets a decision acquire meaning later, when the same person, organization or conflict returns. EA describes Shepard’s relationships as affected by choices, but the product page examined does not give a complete companion-by-companion comparison. Which game lets me represent myself in character creation?
