For a Capcom PC game that stutters, crashes, or stalls while compiling shaders, start with the exact game and its current build—not a universal “RE Engine fix.” Record your game version, GPU and driver, Windows version, where the problem occurs, and whether it began after an update. Then check for a matching game patch, verify the installation, compare your PC with that title’s requirements, and make only the game-specific cache or settings changes that apply. The steps below distinguish Monster Hunter Wilds guidance from Dragon’s Dogma 2 requirements; those details do not automatically apply to other Capcom games.
What should I check before changing settings?
Write down a short baseline before troubleshooting. It helps distinguish a game bug introduced or fixed by an update from a local configuration issue, and gives support useful details if the problem persists.

Change one setting or condition at a time and note the result. If several things change at once, a temporary improvement will not tell you which change mattered. Avoid deleting folders at random: a game’s shader cache, its saved data, and other local files are not interchangeable.
Why do requirements differ between Capcom games?
System requirements are specific to each title. Monster Hunter Wilds and Dragon’s Dogma 2 illustrate why a fix or hardware rule for one Capcom game should not be applied to another without checking its own published requirements.

These are published requirements and targets, not a promise that every PC with the listed parts will have identical performance. Wilds’ recommended 60 fps target explicitly includes frame generation; it should not be read as a native 60 fps rendering guarantee. Wilds also requires an SSD, whereas Dragon’s Dogma 2 lists one as recommended rather than required. Check the listing for your specific game and edition before deciding that storage is the cause.
System RAM is not graphics memory
The 16 GB RAM figure in those requirements refers to system memory. Wilds’ optional High Resolution Texture Pack has a separate threshold: Capcom says a graphics card needs at least 16 GB of graphics memory (VRAM) for that pack. Having 16 GB of system RAM does not meet that VRAM requirement, and vice versa.

First check whether the publisher has issued a fix for your title and symptom. If the issue appeared after an update, confirm the installed build before changing drivers, cache files, or unrelated Windows settings.
Check the current Wilds update guidance
Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds news feed lists Ver.1.042.00.03, released October 27, 2026 UTC, as including measures for crashes on some AMD graphics cards. Its guidance at the October 30, 2026 research timestamp lists NVIDIA GeForce driver 581.57 or newer and AMD Radeon 25.9.1 or newer. Driver guidance can change, so check the current Wilds notice before acting on those version numbers. The patch note says it implemented measures for an issue that could crash the game on some AMD graphics cards; it does not guarantee that every AMD-related crash has been resolved.

Do not carry forward an older patch’s driver warning as if it were the current recommendation. Also, do not treat a patch note as proof that every crash has the same cause. If you have the current build and the problem continues, move on to file verification and a controlled check of your configuration.
Verify the game files in Steam
- Open Steam Library and select the affected game.
- Open Properties, then Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files and allow Steam to complete the check.
- Launch the game again and see whether the same crash occurs at the same point.
Verification checks the installed game files; it is a reasonable early step when a crash follows an update or an installation may be incomplete. If you use a different storefront, use its own file-repair or verification feature rather than assuming Steam’s menu path applies.

Check security software without disabling protection broadly
If verification does not help and the failure looks like an executable or game file is being blocked, inspect your security software’s alerts or quarantine for a specific entry related to the game. Follow the software publisher’s safe process to review that item. Do not leave antivirus or other protection disabled as a general troubleshooting step; a broad shutdown creates risk and does not establish that security software caused the crash.
Why is Monster Hunter Wilds stuck compiling shaders?
A shader screen that stalls or crashes can have more than one cause. Capcom has documented shader-compilation bugs addressed by a game update, and it separately identifies potentially damaged local shader-cache files as a troubleshooting target. A cache reset cannot replace a game patch or make unsupported hardware meet the game’s requirements.

- Confirm the game build. Check whether Wilds is current and whether the installed update addresses shader compilation or warming. Capcom director Yuya Tokuda said Title Update 2 fixed shader-compilation bugs.
- Compare the PC with the game requirements. Check the graphics card and memory against the title’s published requirements, not just the amount of system RAM. If the machine is below the relevant requirements, cache deletion alone is not a hardware fix.
- Check the graphics driver. Compare its version with current guidance for your GPU and the game. Use the GPU maker’s official instructions for driver installation; restart the PC after installing a driver before judging whether it changed the symptom.
- Consider Wilds’ named cache files only if appropriate. Capcom’s full-game troubleshooting thread identifies
shader.cacheandshader.cache2in the directory containingMonsterHunterWilds.exeas optional deletion targets, if those files are present. - Let the game rebuild and observe. A cache rebuild can take time. Do not assume a pause during rebuilding means the game is permanently stuck; allow it to proceed, then check whether the same failure returns.
These filenames and the executable path are specific to the full version of Monster Hunter Wilds. They are not instructions for Dragon’s Dogma 2, Resident Evil, or every Capcom PC game. In particular, a beta troubleshooting discussion that refers to MonsterHunterWildsBeta.exe is not the authority for the full game’s file path.
If you want to reset a driver shader cache, follow the graphics-card maker’s current instructions. That is different from deleting Wilds’ named game-cache files. Do not delete arbitrary game folders or saved data in an attempt to clear shaders.
When shader warming crashes
Capcom also describes a Wilds crash during shader warming associated with insufficient VRAM. If the crash occurs during warming, compare the card’s graphics memory with the game’s requirements and contact Intel or the PC manufacturer for guidance when the available GPU hardware may be insufficient. The documented troubleshooting does not establish that every warming crash means the graphics card is defective.
Why does Wilds crash after installing the High Resolution Texture Pack?
The optional Wilds High Resolution Texture Pack has its own VRAM requirement. Capcom says at least 16 GB of graphics memory is required and warns that insufficient VRAM can destabilize the game even if you change the in-game Texture Quality setting.

This is a reversible, no-cost check if instability started after installing the pack. Lowering Texture Quality is not a substitute for the stated VRAM threshold. A graphics card with 16 GB VRAM is relevant only if you specifically want to use this optional pack; it is not a general first step for crashes, and a purchase requires checking compatibility with the PC’s power supply, physical space, and budget.
How can I narrow down stuttering during gameplay?
First establish whether the stutter is tied to a requirement, a particular scene, or competing load on the PC. Use reversible changes and compare the same situation rather than expecting a preset to deliver a particular frame-rate increase.

Check storage and load before tuning graphics
- For Wilds, confirm that the game is installed on an SSD, as Capcom lists an SSD as required, and that the PC has the listed 75 GB of available storage.
- For Dragon’s Dogma 2, treat an SSD as recommended, not a shared blanket requirement for all Capcom games.
- Compare the system with the game’s listed requirements. If a PC falls below a published minimum, settings changes may not resolve the underlying limitation.
- Note whether the stutter happens constantly or only in one area or at one repeatable moment. A location-specific symptom and a system-wide symptom point to different things to investigate, but neither alone proves a cause.
Try low-risk changes one at a time
- Close recording software and overlays temporarily to check whether they are competing for resources. Reopen them individually afterward if the stutter changes.
- Try Low or Medium graphics settings and compare the same scene. Treat this as a diagnostic comparison, not a promised FPS gain.
- On a laptop, check that the game is using the intended GPU and that the laptop is connected to power with its appropriate performance configuration selected.
- If the problem appears related to high processing load, try a frame-rate limit and observe whether pacing becomes more consistent. Dragon’s Dogma 2’s own requirements warn that frame rate can drop at high processing loads.
- If the PC becomes hot or its performance changes during a longer session, check ventilation and airflow before considering cooling hardware. Do not assume overheating without evidence of a thermal issue.
Game updates can matter as much as local settings. Capcom’s January 2026 Wilds update reduced shader warming outside the compilation screen and adjusted texture streaming. That is a specific update description, not a quantified promise about the stutter or frame rate on an individual PC. The separate 90% figure reported for Title Update 2 concerns the processing-load impact of the specified anti-cheat measures, not total CPU use or FPS.

Describe the exact screen, scene, or action that precedes the crash, and say which troubleshooting change you made and what happened afterward. Capcom’s cited troubleshooting thread says the Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo is not subject to user support. Do not assume support instructions for the full game apply to the demo.

- Occurs in a repeatable scene during gameplay: record the scene and settings, then compare with overlays and recording software closed and with a lower preset.
- Continues after a patch and file verification: collect the support artifacts rather than repeatedly deleting files or applying generic tweaks.
Capcom’s Wilds notes and troubleshooting guidance establish particular fixes and checks, not a universal explanation for every crash or stutter. No population-wide rate for shader stutter, no percentage of players helped by cache deletion, and no universal performance gain from a particular preset is established here. Treat a result on your own PC as evidence about that configuration, not as a general guarantee.

Can clearing a shader cache damage my save file?
The Wilds cache instructions name two shader-cache files, not saved-game data. Do not delete other folders or files as part of a cache reset; if you are unsure which directory you have open, stop and use Capcom’s full-game guidance.
Does the Monster Hunter Wilds beta black-screen report explain a current full-game crash?
No. A historical October 2024 beta discussion included a player describing a black screen while in-game text remained visible, but that comment does not establish a current full-game bug or its cause. The beta executable path should not be used as the full-game cache-path instruction.
Did Capcom promise a 90% increase in Wilds frame rate?
No. The figure director Yuya Tokuda gave for Title Update 2 was about the impact of specified anti-cheat measures on processing load. It is not a claim about total CPU use, FPS, or the improvement a particular player should expect.
