To beat hard waves in Candy Kingdom Defense, cover the busiest stretch of road with a wide-area unit, add pull or stun control to keep enemies there, and reserve a backline slot for boss damage. Set that burst unit’s targeting to Last when a high-HP boss trails smaller enemies. If ordinary enemies leak, improve coverage or control before chasing more boss damage; if the lane holds but the boss survives, add burst instead.
This guide uses the post-24 October 2026 roster names where they are documented, with older names in parentheses because players still search for them. Candy Kingdom Defense is a Roblox tower-defense game by Monero Studios. The figures below come from player guides and captured unit panels, not an official damage sheet; treat them as recorded examples, not guaranteed results.

Where do I place units in Candy Kingdom Defense?
Place a unit on valid open ground beside the road, then check its range preview before confirming. It only attacks enemies within that range, so position the widest useful zone over the busiest part of the route—not on a visually convenient tile that leaves the road outside its reach.
- Choose the lane that sees the most traffic. On the opening waves, concentrating your upgrades on one reliable lane-carrier is usually stronger than spreading money across several weak units.
- Select the unit and inspect the preview. Move the placement until its range covers the road section where enemies bunch up. If the game says “Not on the road,” shift to valid open ground beside the route.
- Build the first unit up before widening. Early waves punish expensive specialists and scattered upgrades. Add a second unit when another lane becomes active or the first lane-carrier is close to its useful upgrade ceiling.
- Keep room to manage the field. Leave a gap around large units and crowded paths. A large hitbox can make it difficult to select a unit or sell it when you need to rebuild.
- Reposition based on the leak. If one point is repeatedly breached, selling a low-value unit and placing closer to the spawn can restore coverage sooner than adding an upgrade elsewhere.
The practical principle is “build tall, then spread.” A recorded tips guide warns against taking three heroes to tier two instead of pushing one toward tier five. In its suggested opening, place Finn (now Adventure Boy) on the busiest path and funnel upgrades into him; once that lane is strong, add coverage to the opposite route. This is a starting pattern, not a fixed map solution—there are no official tile-by-tile maps for every stage.

Jake (now Stretchy Dog) is a documented low-cost opener: an in-match placement costs $50, up to four can be placed, and full-area attack arrives from his fifth upgrade, according to candykingdomdefense.fyi. His wide coverage makes him useful when early enemies clump, but the cost and upgrade details do not mean every map should start with him. Choose the starter that can cover the route you actually need to defend.
Upgrade through the units panel when on-field controls are crowded. In Battles, the Send button can overlap upgrade buttons, and tight formations can make the correct unit difficult to select. Keep currency available when a boss or tank is approaching so you can finish a relevant tier during the wave instead of spending everything on an upgrade that does not address the current threat.

Hard waves ask you to solve three different jobs: coverage to hit groups, control to slow or hold them, and boss burst to finish a high-health target. One highly ranked unit cannot necessarily do all three. Add the missing job rather than following a tier letter blindly.
| What went wrong? | Likely gap | What to change |
|---|---|---|
| Small enemies escape in clumps | Area coverage | Move a wide-AoE unit over the busiest road section; Jake, Alien Jake, Lich or King Jake are documented coverage options. |
| Fast enemies rush through one point | Control | Add a pull, stun or slow where enemies bunch up; Alien Jake, Magic Man and Lemongrab are documented control choices. |
| The lane holds, but the boss is still alive | Single-target damage | Keep AoE on trash and add a burst unit with backline targeting set to Last. |
| Both the wave and boss overwhelm the defense | Foundation and role balance | Fix the lane first. Boss damage is wasted if the boss never reaches the burst zone safely. |
Alien Jake (called Cosmic Dog after the rename) is a pull-and-hold option: a level-50 captured panel lists 11,000 black-hole damage, 43 range, full-area coverage, roughly a one-minute hold and 4,500 poison damage. Those are panel readings reported by candy-kingdom-defense.org, not a controlled DPS comparison. The black hole’s placement matters as much as its printed damage: use it where the pull keeps enemies inside your other units’ attack zones.
Two Alien Jakes can overlap their black-hole pulls and halt enemy movement, according to the Candy Kingdom Defense Wiki. That can be powerful when the team needs a hard stop, but it uses multiple placements and should not be mistaken for a universal answer to every boss. Use the hold to create time for damage, and preserve a separate slot for the job the hold does not solve.
Magic Man’s maximum-upgrade ability is reported at about 200,000 damage with roughly a 4.7-second cooldown, and provides full-area stun. Another captured reading reports roughly 160,000 before the maximum-upgrade panel; these are different upgrade stages, not evidence of conflicting official DPS. A stun is useful only if the rest of the lane can punish the enemies while they are controlled. A weak damage zone still leaks when the stun ends.
Lemongrab’s evolved lemons are reported at about 18,000 damage with a stun. The Lich’s Extinction panel is listed at 6,800 damage, 54 range, 5.7 attack speed and a two-second stun, with a one-placement cap. These numbers describe recorded panels, not matched tests: level, trait, upgrade state and wave conditions affect comparisons. The useful decision is whether the stun or placement shape covers the point where your defense breaks.

How should I place Flame Princess and other units with unusual attack shapes?
Place by attack shape, not just range. Circular area attacks need the road inside their zone; linear or traveling attacks need enemies to cross their trajectory; persistent ground damage works best at a choke point; and an attack that travels away from its target needs an angle that sends it down the route.
| Unit | Attack shape or job | Placement implication |
|---|---|---|
| Finn / Adventure Boy | Single-target leaps and somersaults; later Meteor Strike is linear | Do not assume Meteor Strike is a circular blast. Aim its line across the road; a captured strike at its first recorded tier hit for roughly 338 damage. |
| Marceline / Vampire Queen | Crimson musical rings track down the road and hit along the path | Base Marceline is a line clearer; keep her path-tracking lane job in mind before evolving. |
| Flame Princess | Persistent ground damage; Solar Flare travels away from its target | Use tight choke points for ground effects. Angle Solar Flare so it travels into the route, not empty road. |
| Jake / Stretchy Dog | Wide stretch attack, then Hammer Slam splash and Stretchy Tornado full AoE | Cover the road where enemies cluster; later upgrades expand his role from opener to area clear. |
| Alien Jake / Cosmic Dog | Full-area black hole that pulls, holds and damages | Place the pull so held enemies remain in allied attack zones. |
| Billy | High damage, slow attacks that travel past targets | He is a poor fit for a dense wall where many targets need rapid hits. |
Flame Princess is the most angle-sensitive example. Solar Flare travels away from the selected target, so putting her directly beside a road does not guarantee the flare will follow it. Check the attack direction and range preview; if the trajectory points into empty space, move her to a different side or angle. Her persistent effects can be effective at a choke, but that does not make every road tile a good placement.
What is the best Candy Kingdom Defense boss placement?
Let area units handle the small enemies at the front, then set your backline burst unit to Last so it prioritizes the target at the rear. A hard-stage boss around 16,000 HP is the documented example; no complete official boss-health table was published.
With default or First targeting, a backline attacker may spend shots on the first small enemy in range while the boss approaches behind it. Last targeting is useful when the boss is the final high-HP target in a line. Keep the AoE unit’s range covering the front-running trash so those enemies do not escort the boss into your base. Targeting settings and unit placement work together: Last does not help if the boss is outside the burst unit’s range.
Marceline Beast is the documented boss-burst evolution. Captured figures list Drink the Red at 40,000 damage to one target and Claw Dive at 3,000; a separate recorded level-50 profile after evolution lists 2,244 damage, 2.34-second SPA and 38 range with the Radical trait. The readings come from different panel contexts and should not be combined into a precise DPS claim. The strategic trade-off is clear: base Marceline’s rings clear a path, while Beast spends its headline ability on one target.
That trade-off answers “should I evolve Jake or Marceline first?” If small enemies leak, evolve Jake into Alien Jake first: the black-hole pull directly addresses lane control. If the lane already holds and the boss survives, Marceline Beast is the more relevant upgrade. Do not evolve Marceline while she is your only line clearer unless another unit has already taken over that job. A boss unit cannot compensate for an open lane.
King Jake is described as the widest coverage option for stages where the enemy line spreads across a lane; that is area coverage, not the same job as Marceline Beast’s single-target burst. The sources disagree about how King Jake relates to Alien Jake in the roster and rankings. Do not merge them: use the individual unit card and evolution path in your game version, and choose by the job needed.

Tournament is a different boss-like problem. It is described as a single-target damage leaderboard, so prioritize the highest-damage hero rather than the tankiest setup used to survive a campaign lane. In campaign, a high-damage unit needs trash control and a safe firing window; in Tournament, the single target itself is the focus.
Which six heroes should I bring, and what changes in co-op?
Build the six-hero loadout around roles, not six favorites that all do the same thing. One documented template uses a wave clearer, a boss-burst unit, a controller, two flexible damage slots and an affordable early-game filler.
| Slot role | Example choices in the guides | Check before committing |
|---|---|---|
| Wave clear | Alien Jake / Cosmic Dog | Does the map give the black hole a useful road section to cover? |
| Boss burst | Marceline Beast | Is another unit already clearing the lane she used to hold? |
| Control | Jake Lich / Lich Dog or Lemongrab | Can the control zone hold enemies within allied damage range? |
| Flexible damage | Princess Bubblegum / Candy Princess or King BMO | King BMO has a two-placement cap and adds summons; it is not a substitute for a pull. |
| Flexible damage or stun | Lemongrab or Magic Man | Choose for the wave problem, not only a tier ranking. |
| Opening filler | Finn / Adventure Boy or base Jake / Stretchy Dog | Can the affordable opener cover the first busy path? |
Placement caps affect the plan. Jake can have up to four placements, King BMO two, and The Lich and Jake Lich one each. A one-copy unit fills its role with a single field placement, so do not build a strategy around stacking it. Two Alien Jakes can be used where available, but a two-placement unit may crowd a small map; leave room to interact with units and sell when necessary. Spare copies belong at useful points along the route, not stacked on one tile where their coverage overlaps without adding meaningful road coverage.
In co-op, coordinate roles before spending: establish wide coverage first, then control, then boss damage, followed by extra bodies or flexible damage. The game supports up to four players, so duplicate roles can be intentional if the map has several lanes, but four players all placing boss specialists can still leave the road uncovered. A useful pick order from player guidance is King Jake, Lich or Alien Jake for coverage; Alien Jake or Magic Man for control; Marceline Beast for boss damage; then Lemongrab or Marceline for extra bodies or flexible clearing.

In Infinite, keep an affordable opener and spend match money on the pressure currently surviving. One documented guide says a new wave arrives every 20 seconds. Later specialists matter only if the early defense holds long enough for them to contribute; do not sacrifice the opening lane for a unit that is not yet solving a live problem.
After a failed run, change the part that failed rather than rebuilding everything at once. If small enemies leaked, improve area coverage; if they raced past a choke, add slow, stun or pull; if the boss survived after the lane held, add single-target damage. Some Infinite pages describe a cumulative-damage score, while others discuss endurance farming for gems, Trait Crystals and Lich portals. Those descriptions do not establish one official scoring rule, so check the mode’s current in-game objective before choosing between survival and damage specialization.
For late dense waves, Lich is a long-term coverage chase rather than an opening plan. A player guide reports that every 10 waves has a 30% chance of spawning a portal and each portal a 5% chance of producing a Lich—about a 1.5% chance per 10-wave checkpoint. The portal is opened in the Tree Fort to fight in Lich’s Lair; each win gives one Lich Ooze and a reported 5% Lich chance, with about 14 wins corresponding to a 50% chance. Jake the Lich’s evolution recipe uses five Lich Ooze and 10 Pages, with no gems listed in that recipe. These are guide-reported odds, not a guarantee of a drop on a fixed schedule.

When should I evolve units, and what does each evolution change?
Evolution should follow a role check: identify what the base unit currently does for your defense, confirm another hero can cover that job, then spend the required materials. The standard shrine recipe documented for seven evolutions is 10 personal materials, five Enchiridion Pages and 1,000 gems. Player video testing reported by a strategy wiki says evolved heroes keep their existing level and trait.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems| Evolution | Act 5 material farm listed in player documentation | Placement change to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Princess Bubblegum → Candy Elemental Bubblegum | Candy Kingdom, Slumber Party Panic | Use the evolved role to complement—not assume it replaces—lane coverage. |
| Jake → Alien Jake | Ice Kingdom, Ice King’s Wrath | Adds the black-hole pull-and-hold control role. |
| Finn → Adult Finn | Fire Kingdom, Burning Low | Check the evolved attack shape and keep the road within the useful zone. |
| BMO → King BMO | MO Factory, Be More | Coverage and extra summoned bodies; cap is two placements, not leak control. |
| Lemongrab → Lemongrab 3 | Castle Lemongrab, Lemonhope | Evolved lemons are reported to add damage and stun. |
| Marceline → Marceline Beast | Nightosphere, Lord of Evil | Changes a line-clearer into a boss-focused single-target unit. |
| Lady Rainicorn → Prism Queen Rainicorn | Crystal Dimension, The Crystal Queen | Check the evolved unit’s role against the missing job in your lineup. |
Each recorded replay card lists 50 Gems and one personal item, and the listed personal-material farm takes 10 Act 5 wins per evolution. The table reflects player documentation checked in late October 2026, not a publisher-issued materials handbook. There is a documented world-count discrepancy: the official Roblox description still lists five worlds and 25 stages, while player documentation checked 25 October lists seven worlds and 35 acts, including Nightosphere and Crystal Dimension. Older pages still call some worlds upcoming. Verify the act name and reward in the live game before farming.
Two other progression details can prevent wasted effort. You cannot feed XP candy to a hero currently equipped in the six-slot team: unequip it, feed it, then re-equip it. XP Candy is listed as 150 XP and Big XP Candy as 600 XP. For summons, player guides list 50 Gems for one pull or 450 for ten, with a Legendary-or-better guarantee in 50 summons; level rewards are reported as 1,000 Gems every five player levels. These costs do not change the match-placement rule: keep enough in-match currency to answer the wave you are facing.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What can the recorded unit numbers tell me—and what can’t they?
Captured panels help identify a unit’s possible role, range and placement limit, but they are not a fair cross-unit DPS ranking. The figures below come from player screenshots or recordings in 2026. A fair DPS test would hold level, trait, upgrade stage and wave constant; available footage does not meet that standard.
| Unit or ability | Recorded panel/example | Placement takeaway |
|---|---|---|
| Alien Jake / Cosmic Dog, level 50 | Black hole: 11,000 damage, 43 range, full area; about one-minute hold; poison 4,500 | Control and area coverage; place where held enemies remain in allied range. |
| Marceline Beast | Drink the Red 40,000 to one target; Claw Dive 3,000 | Boss burst; replace her old line-clear coverage first. |
| Jake Lich / Lich Dog | 20,000 damage, 56 range, 6.1 attack speed; full area; one placement | Late full-area coverage with a strict one-copy cap. |
| King BMO | 2,000 damage / 3.7 attack speed, rising to 10,000 / 5.4; two placements; summons four heroes | Coverage and extra bodies; not a pull or stun substitute. |
| The Lich, Extinction | 6,800 damage, 54 range, 5.7 attack speed; two-second stun; one placement | Control plus damage; position to catch the lane, not a tile off-route. |
| Magic Man, maximum upgrade | About 200,000 damage, roughly 4.7-second cooldown; earlier reading about 160,000 | Max-upgrade stun/damage specialist, not an opening-wave baseline. |
| Princess Bubblegum summon | Gumball Guardian: 2,081 damage / 15.1-second cooldown | This is the summon’s panel, not Bubblegum’s own DPS. |
Halloween recording panels add another warning about comparing numbers. In a 25 October recording reported by candy-kingdom-defense.org, cards wore the Oh My Glob trait. Grim Reaper at its sixth upgrade showed 42,599 damage, 62.6 range and 4.75 attack speed; evolved Metal Reaper at its fifth upgrade showed 155,213 damage, 70.8 range and 4.45 attack speed. The Elder Vampire’s sixth upgrade showed 5,638 damage, 56.5 range and 4.45 attack speed; evolved Dark Cloud at its sixth showed 96,381 damage, 66.8 range and 4.25 attack speed, plus five seconds of burn. Lord of Evil’s last upgrade in a separate 27 October run showed 33,205 damage and 55.6 range; its roster card showed 2,648 damage, 44.9 range and 2.31 seconds with Hero of Ooo. These cards are useful descriptions of recorded states, not a controlled comparison.

One 15-wave Halloween Raid report recorded Lord of Evil dealing 30.35 million damage, 65% of the team total, and Cosmic Dog dealing 16.27 million. That single run shows why event specialists can contribute heavily in a particular team and mode; it does not prove the same share on another map, trait setup or wave. Likewise, tier lists disagree about Marceline Beast and Halloween Secret units. A role split—coverage, control, burst—is more reliable than treating a letter grade as a placement plan.
What version and roster names should I use?
Candy Kingdom Defense launched on Roblox on 29 September 2026, according to Rosenberry Rooms. Following a 24 October rename, the live roster uses names including Stretchy Dog, Adventure Boy, Vampire Queen, Cosmic Dog, Lich Dog and Candy Princess, while older guides and search queries use Jake, Finn, Marceline, Alien Jake and Princess Bubblegum. Use both names when checking guides, but rely on the unit card and current in-game evolution path for the version you are playing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my tower say “Not on the road” when I try to place it?
The unit’s placement preview is over an invalid tile or collision area, rather than valid open ground beside the route. Move the preview to clear ground and check that its displayed range still covers the road before confirming.
Can I sell a tower and place it somewhere else during a match?
Player guides recommend selling a low-value unit and repositioning closer to the spawn when a lane repeatedly leaks. Leave enough space around large units to select them and reach the sell control, especially on a crowded path.
Do evolved heroes lose their level or trait?
A strategy wiki’s reported video testing says evolved heroes keep their existing level and trait. The evolution still changes the unit’s job, so check that another hero can cover the base form’s role before spending materials.
How many players can join a Candy Kingdom Defense co-op run?
Player guides list co-op for up to four players total: you and three friends. Coordinate who supplies coverage, control and boss damage so the team does not leave a lane uncovered while everyone brings the same specialty.
