No—not across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Saints Row (the 2022 reboot) supports two-player co-op across generations within the same console family: PS4 with PS5, and Xbox One with Xbox Series X|S. PC players have an optional Steam–Epic cross-play path, but that does not connect PC to consoles. Cross-progression between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC has not been announced.
That distinction matters when choosing a copy: if you want to play with a particular friend, buy the game for the platform family or PC launcher they use. The game’s co-op lets you explore together, but it does not make every version part of one shared multiplayer pool.

Does Saints Row have crossplay?
Saints Row is cross-generation, but it is not fully cross-play across console brands. A PS4 player can join a PS5 player, and an Xbox One player can join someone on Xbox Series X|S. PlayStation and Xbox players cannot join each other, and console players cannot join PC players.
There is one narrower PC exception: PLAION’s Steam release FAQ said optional cross-play with Epic Games would use Epic Online Services (EOS). Steam also lists “Cross-Platform Multiplayer” for the game. In this context, that means PC storefront-to-PC storefront play—not the ability to join PlayStation or Xbox sessions. The FAQ’s live support page was returning a 404 on October 29, 2026, so the Steam–Epic detail rests on its archived wording and Steam’s current store feature listing, not a fresh live confirmation.

Deep Silver confirmed the console distinction to GamesRadar+ in July 2022: “There is cross-gen play. So Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S co-op is doable, and PS4 to PS5 is too – but not cross-console play.” The representative could not then confirm console-to-PC cross-play. Later PC storefront information adds the Steam–Epic option, but does not change the console rule.
Does Saints Row 2022 have crossplay and cross-progression?
It has limited cross-play, as described above, but no announced cross-progression between platform brands. Do not assume a PlayStation save can move to Xbox or PC, or that progress on Xbox transfers to a Windows PC account.
Some features can look like cross-progression without being cross-platform save transfer. Xbox lists cloud saves and Smart Delivery, and Steam lists Steam Cloud; those features keep saves within their respective ecosystems. Xbox Smart Delivery lets one Xbox purchase serve Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, but it is not a license or save transfer to PlayStation, Steam, or the Microsoft Store PC version. The Xbox store does not list Xbox Play Anywhere, so there is no basis to claim Xbox-console-to-Windows progression.
Within a platform, progress also carries between solo and co-op. Rock Paper Shotgun’s co-op guide reported that a guest’s earned XP, items, collectibles, and achievements return to that guest’s own save. The host’s story progress determines which missions are available in the session; playing a mission in a friend’s game does not force the guest to repeat it in their own world. That is useful save continuity, but it remains separate from moving a save between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

Can I play with friends on other systems?
Only if “other systems” means another generation in the same console family, or another PC storefront covered by Steam–Epic cross-play. If your friend is on a different console brand or on PC while you are on console, the versions do not connect for co-op.
Before buying, check the platform or launcher your friend actually uses. A PS5 copy is the compatible choice for playing with a PS4 friend; an Xbox Series X|S copy works with an Xbox One friend. For PC, coordinate on Steam or Epic and account for the optional EOS requirement. The Xbox listing specifies Smart Delivery, while Steam and Epic are separate PC storefronts—do not treat a purchase on one as a purchase on the other.

How does Saints Row co-op work?
Co-op is for two players, with drop-in/drop-out sessions and untethered exploration of the open world. You can roam separately until a mission starts; beginning one teleports the partner into the mission. There is no dedicated PvP mode.

- Choose a session from the menu. The available choices include Host Game using an existing save, Join Friend, Host New Game, and Matchmaking.
- Set privacy if you do not want an open session. Session Privacy defaults to open-to-all. Change it to Friends Only or Invite Only to limit who can join.
- Coordinate story progress. The host’s campaign progress gates the missions available. A guest can earn and keep their own rewards, but the host controls the story state for that session.
- Check optional co-op settings. Friendly fire is off by default, with full, partial, or no friendly fire available; the setting affects damage you take. Both players must enable Co-op Pranking for that feature. Host-only HQ Customization is off by default, so guests can redecorate the base unless the host changes the setting.
“Fully untethered drop-in / drop out co-op” is the wording used in Deep Silver’s marketing. In practical terms, the pair can explore the open world without staying close together, but starting a mission changes the session flow by bringing the partner into it. Xbox’s official store listing specifies online co-op for two players (2–2), consistent with the game’s two-player limit.
On Xbox consoles, online multiplayer requires Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate, sold separately, according to the Xbox store. A PlayStation Plus requirement is not established by a PlayStation store page, so check the current PlayStation listing and account requirements for your region rather than assuming the Xbox rule applies to PlayStation.

No to both. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S do not share co-op, even though both versions are for current-generation consoles. The same limit applies to PS4 versus Xbox One, and to either console generation versus PC. The exception is PS4–PS5 or Xbox One–Xbox Series within their own families.
Do not confuse a game being sold on several platforms with cross-platform play. Here, “cross-generation” means connecting two generations in one family. “Cross-play” means players on different platform families can group up. Steam’s “Cross-Platform Multiplayer” flag is narrower than it may sound in isolation: read alongside PLAION’s FAQ, it points to PC launcher cross-play between Steam and Epic, not console interoperability.

Is Saints Row likely to get console cross-play later?
There is no announced PlayStation–Xbox or console–PC cross-play update, and it is not sensible to buy on the assumption that one will arrive. Volition, the studio that developed the reboot, was closed by Embracer in 2023. That does not prove that no future publisher update is possible, but it makes an unannounced cross-play patch a poor basis for a purchase decision.
PLAION’s Steam FAQ described substantial post-launch work: “We have deployed 4 major updates – including fan requested features such as cheats, selfie mode, combat overhaul among lots more, fixed thousands of bugs and issues, released several cosmetic packs, 2 map expansions and 3 story expansions check www.saintsrow.com/news for a full picture of everything we have been working on.” The linked Saints Row news page is the publisher’s place to look for announced game updates; that history of patches and expansions is not an announcement of cross-platform play.
Which version should I buy for co-op?
Buy the version that matches your friend’s platform family or PC storefront. A console generation upgrade within the same Xbox or PlayStation family is supported, but changing brands is not. On PC, coordinate whether the group is using Steam or Epic and remember the stated EOS requirement for the optional Steam–Epic route.
Account for the purchase model as well as compatibility. Xbox Smart Delivery covers Xbox One and Series X|S from one Xbox purchase. Steam and Epic are separate PC storefronts, so do not assume a copy on one gives access to the other. The Gold Edition bundles the Expansion Pass, which includes three story expansions; that edition choice does not unlock cross-play or cross-progression.

At the time reported in the available data, Steam showed 59% positive from 3,216 English user reviews overall and 62% positive from 87 recent reviews, both labeled “Mixed.” Amazon listed the Day 1 Edition at 4.1 out of 5 stars from 554 customer reviews. Does Saints Row have matchmaking, or do I need to invite a friend?
