There is no single offline method for every Call of Duty game. Activision says Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 require a continuous internet connection, including Campaign. A console’s paid social-play or multiplayer subscription is a separate issue: campaign access may not require that subscription, but the console still must remain connected for those games.
For installation problems, first identify the exact title, platform, console generation and license type. Then finish required updates, install the standalone game and Campaign content, and match the repair to the error. A disc does not bypass a mandatory update or an online-Campaign requirement.

Can I play the Call of Duty campaign offline?
Only if the specific game officially supports disconnected play. Activision’s current editions FAQs state that Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 need a continuous internet connection for every mode, including Campaign. You cannot use a menu setting, a disc or a lower streaming-quality option to turn either title into an offline game.
That requirement is different from a paid console social-play subscription. Activision says a console player does not need the subscription described in the Black Ops 6 editions FAQ solely to play Campaign. For Black Ops 7, solo play in Co-Op Campaign is excluded from the console social-play subscription requirement. Those are subscription exemptions, not offline exemptions: the game still needs an internet connection.

Activision’s installation pages for Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare III document standalone downloads and launcher changes, but they do not establish a universal, current offline guarantee across platforms. Do not assume that a campaign-labelled mode in an older or different title will work completely disconnected.
What is the difference between offline play and playing without a paid subscription?
Offline play means the console or PC has no internet connection. Playing without a paid multiplayer subscription means the device is online, but the account does not have the service required for online social or multiplayer features. A game can waive the subscription while still requiring its servers for authentication, updates or campaign access.

The safest answer is title-specific rather than franchise-wide. Use this table as a decision point, then verify the current requirements shown for your edition and platform.

Will the Call of Duty disc work without internet?
A disc is not an offline bypass. For Black Ops 7, Activision states that the physical game requires a Day One update before it can be played. That update is in addition to any console system update and available-content download. The online Campaign requirement remains after installation.

Physical editions also require compatible disc-capable hardware. A Black Ops 7 disc cannot run on a digital-only PlayStation 5 or on an Xbox Series S. Check the console model before buying or inserting a disc; an optical drive accessory or a different edition may be required, and compatibility does not remove the internet requirement.

How do I install the correct Call of Duty title and Campaign?
Use the least destructive sequence below. It avoids deleting saves or buying a second copy before the platform has finished moving the game to its standalone listing.
- Identify the entitlement. Write down the exact title, edition, console generation and account that owns it. Confirm whether access comes from a digital purchase, a disc or a subscription catalogue. On PlayStation 5, cross-gen bundles can show more than one version; Activision warns users to choose the correct PS5 or PS4 build.
- Check hardware compatibility. A disc requires a disc-capable console. A digital-only PS5 and an Xbox Series S cannot read a physical disc. If the hardware is correct, leave the disc inserted while the platform verifies ownership.
- Update the console first. Activision’s Black Ops 7 Installation and Setup guidance says to complete available console system updates. Restart after an update if the platform still reports an old version.
- Allow the game download to finish. The Black Ops 7 disc requires a Day One game update. Keep enough free storage for the base application, updates and selected content; no universal download-size figure should be assumed because packages change by platform, language and title.
- Find the standalone listing. Search the owned title in the platform store or library. Black Ops 6, Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare III are documented as standalone titles, so a missing tile in an older launcher does not prove that the license disappeared.
- Install Campaign content. The base launcher and the Campaign pack can be separate downloads. Open the game’s content-management screen and select Campaign, then wait for the download and any verification step to complete.
- Launch from the correct version. Remove an unneeded cross-generation build from the launch queue only after confirming that the desired version is installed. Starting the wrong build can produce a “not installed” message even when another version is present.
Where are the content-install controls?
Labels differ by title and platform, but the publisher documents several current paths:
- Xbox: For Black Ops 7, use Choose what to install on the game’s installation screen. In the Call of Duty application, open Menu > Manage Files for available install and content controls.
- PlayStation 5: Use Install Options for the title’s optional packs. The exact tiles can differ between a disc entitlement, a digital entitlement and a cross-gen bundle.
- Steam: Open the game’s library entry, choose Properties > DLC and confirm that the Campaign-related item is selected. Steam may queue a separate download after the main application appears installed.
- PlayStation library: For an owned title that is no longer shown in the old launcher, search the account’s library or the platform store for its standalone listing instead of purchasing it again.
Do not treat the presence of a tile as proof that its files are ready. A pack can be selected but still waiting in the download queue, paused by another update or blocked by insufficient storage.

Why does Campaign say “not installed”?
The usual causes are an unselected Campaign pack, an unfinished update or a mismatch between the launcher and the installed title. The message does not automatically mean that you lost ownership.
- Open the platform’s install-management screen and check whether Campaign is listed as installed, queued or available to download.
- Pause other downloads and let the title’s system update and game update complete.
- On Xbox, revisit Choose what to install. On PS5, open Install Options. On Steam, check Properties > DLC.
- From the Call of Duty application, open Menu > Manage Files and select the missing Campaign content.
- Confirm that the installed build matches the console generation and entitlement. A PS4 build launched on a PS5 can show a different content state from the PS5 build.
- Restart the application after installation. Some launchers do not refresh the Campaign tile until a full relaunch.
If the pack repeatedly returns to “not installed,” repair the installation as described below rather than deleting saved data immediately.
Why is my Campaign pack missing or out of date?
Activision has a specific PlayStation 4 remedy for the warning “One or more DLC packs are out of date.” From the console library, open Library > Call of Duty > PlayStation Store > Your Add-Ons, install the game’s listed add-ons, then relaunch. The names and location of add-ons can change with platform updates, so use the current item associated with your owned title.
On other platforms, inspect the game’s downloadable-content list and the in-game Manage Files screen. If a pack is present but paused, resume it; if it is listed as unavailable, check the account and edition that owns the license. Do not download a similarly named pack from a different console generation unless the entitlement covers it.

Why is Call of Duty asking me to buy the game again?
First verify the owning account and the standalone listing; do not repurchase immediately. Activision’s PlayStation guidance for Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare III says to check the primary user’s library for the launcher when the console asks an owner to purchase the game again.

- Sign in with the account that bought the digital edition or redeemed the entitlement.
- Open that account’s library and search for the standalone title, not only the Call of Duty launcher.
- If the copy is disc-based, insert the disc and allow the platform to verify it before opening the store listing.
- Check that the installed version matches the purchased console generation.
- Restore licenses or use the platform’s account-licence refresh option if the title is owned but not displayed. The menu name varies by platform and system software.
There is a separate case for PC Game Pass users. Activision’s August 7, 2026 Modern Warfare III known-issues guidance gives a device-limit check for a “Purchase Modern Warfare III” prompt. If that is your scenario, verify the account’s device limit and subscription entitlement before reinstalling.
How do I fix a failed update, corrupted files or a load that never finishes?
Use repairs from least destructive to most destructive. A cache reset or file-integrity check can correct an incomplete package; deleting saved data can be permanent.
- Restart the platform and router. This clears a stalled queue and renews the network session without touching the installation.
- Confirm free storage. Large updates can fail when the drive has space for the base game but not the temporary update files.
- Clear the console cache. Activision recommends cache-clearing for some failed console loads. Follow the current console support procedure for your model rather than relying on an old button sequence.
- Verify PC files. On PC, use the launcher’s current file-integrity or repair command. It should reacquire damaged or missing files without removing your saves.
- Recheck content selection. A repair can leave optional Campaign packs unselected, so revisit Manage Files, Install Options or Properties > DLC.
- Back up saves before destructive steps. Activision warns that deleting saved data can be permanent. Reserve it for a last resort and only after confirming that cloud synchronization or another backup is current.
If a known installation issue affects your exact platform, use Activision Support’s current status rather than an unofficial workaround. The October 16, 2026 Black Ops 6 installation article and the June 30, 2026 Modern Warfare II/Modern Warfare III articles each describe a first-time PS5 disc-installation issue and direct affected owners to support. Recheck those notices because issue status can change.
Does the Optimized or Minimal texture-streaming setting enable offline Campaign?
No. Activision describes Optimized as higher-fidelity streaming that uses more bandwidth and Minimal as lower-fidelity streaming that uses less. Those settings control texture-streaming behavior; they are not an offline switch.
The independent connectivity requirement in the Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 editions FAQs still applies. Choosing Minimal may reduce bandwidth use while connected, but it does not authorize a disconnected Campaign session.

What should I check before contacting support?
Prepare details that let support distinguish an entitlement problem from a missing file:
- Exact game and edition, including whether it is Black Ops 6, Black Ops 7, Modern Warfare II or Modern Warfare III.
- Platform, console generation and whether the hardware is disc-capable.
- Digital purchase, physical disc, subscription access or a cross-gen bundle.
- Account that owns the license and the account currently signed in.
- Whether the base application, Campaign pack and mandatory updates show as complete.
- The exact wording of the error and whether it appears before or after inserting the disc.
- Available storage and whether the issue occurs on a first-time installation or after a previously working install.
This information prevents a common mistake: applying a DLC fix to an ownership prompt, or deleting files when the real cause is an uninstalled standalone title.
Can any setting or workaround make Black Ops 6 or 7 truly offline?
No supported workaround in the cited Activision material removes the continuous-connection requirement. Offline-mode toggles, texture-streaming choices, disc ownership and the absence of a paid social-play subscription address different systems.
If reliable disconnected play is essential, choose only a title whose current publisher documentation explicitly confirms it for your platform and edition. The inspected support pages do not provide a definitive cross-platform list of older Call of Duty games that work completely disconnected, so verify before travelling or losing access to the internet.
