No. Skullcandy headphones can connect to your phone for ordinary Bluetooth audio, but the Bose Music app is designed to detect and control supported Bose products. Skullcandy is not included in Bose’s supported-product catalog, so its headphones will not appear in the Bose app’s normal setup flow. Pair the headphones in your phone’s Bluetooth settings instead. If your exact Skullcandy model supports the Skullcandy App, use that app afterward for Skullcandy-specific controls. Models that are not supported by the Skullcandy App can still be used as Bluetooth headphones; they simply do not gain that app’s extra settings.
Can Skullcandy headphones connect to the Bose Music app?
No. The Bose Music app is a manufacturer app for compatible Bose speakers, headphones, earbuds, frames and related devices, not a universal controller for every Bluetooth headset. Bose’s official app information says the app works with listed Bose products, and Skullcandy does not appear in that catalog.

This means there are two separate connections to distinguish:
- Bluetooth connection: your phone sends audio to the Skullcandy headphones.
- App connection: a manufacturer app detects the product and exposes settings, controls or firmware functions. Bose Music supports the Bose ecosystem; the Skullcandy App is the relevant app for compatible Skullcandy models.
Pairing a Skullcandy headset with a phone therefore does not make it eligible for Bose Music. Installing Bose Music, restarting the phone or granting the app more permissions cannot add a non-Bose model to Bose’s supported-product list.

Why won’t my Skullcandy headphones show up in the Bose app?
They do not show up because Bose Music looks for products that Bose has implemented and documented for the app. Bose’s setup instructions tell users to allow the requested permissions, open My Bose, tap the + button, choose Headphones and Frames, and select a Bose headphone. That workflow is for Bose headphones in the Bose ecosystem, not for third-party Bluetooth devices.
A Bluetooth device can be perfectly usable for audio while remaining invisible to an app. The phone’s operating system handles the audio connection, whereas Bose Music needs product-specific communication that Skullcandy headphones do not provide to Bose. The absence of a Skullcandy entry is therefore expected behavior rather than evidence that the headphones are defective.
How do I connect Skullcandy headphones to my phone without the Bose app?
Use the phone’s Bluetooth settings first. The exact button or voice prompt used to enter pairing mode varies by Skullcandy model, so follow the instructions for your headset.
- Put the headphones in pairing mode. Use the model’s documented power or pairing control. Wait for the pairing indication described in that model’s instructions.
- Open the phone’s Bluetooth settings. Stay on the device list while the phone scans for nearby products.
- Select the Skullcandy product name. Tap the matching entry in the Bluetooth list and wait for the phone to report that it is connected or paired.
- Test audio playback. Play a sound and confirm that the phone’s output is routed to the headphones. This is the documented route for basic Skullcandy audio.
- Check app compatibility separately. If your model is listed as compatible with the Skullcandy App, open that app only after the Bluetooth pairing and follow its linking prompts.
Do not open Bose Music as an intermediate step. It is not required for Bluetooth pairing and it will not convert the Skullcandy connection into a Bose app connection.
Can I use the Skullcandy App instead?
Sometimes. Skullcandy’s support instructions require an app-compatible product to be paired with the phone first. After that Bluetooth pairing, you select the Skullcandy product in the phone’s Bluetooth list and then link it in the Skullcandy App.
Support is model-specific. Skullcandy states that some products are not supported because of technical limitations. The following models are identified as unsupported in its support information:

| Skullcandy models identified as not supported by the Skullcandy App | What that means |
|---|---|
| Dime 3, EcoBuds, Smokin’ Buds | Use the phone’s Bluetooth settings for audio; do not expect app linking or app-only controls. |
| Hesh, Hesh ANC, Hesh Evo, Venue | Bluetooth playback remains the practical connection route, but the Skullcandy App does not support these listed models. |
| Indy, Sesh, Sesh Evo, Spoke | Check the phone’s Bluetooth device list rather than relying on app discovery. |
| Jib, Jib True 2, Dime, Dime 2 | Pair directly through Bluetooth; app features are not available for these listed models. |
| Ink’d, Riff Wireless, Barrel | Use the model’s ordinary Bluetooth controls and instructions instead of expecting Skullcandy App support. |
The list is not a substitute for checking your exact model. Product names can be similar, and a small suffix such as “2,” “3” or “ANC” can identify a different product. If your model is not shown as supported in Skullcandy’s current compatibility information, plan on Bluetooth-only operation unless Skullcandy says otherwise.
What is the difference between Bose Music, phone Bluetooth and the Skullcandy App?
Each option serves a different purpose. Choosing the right one prevents you from troubleshooting an app that was never intended to control your headphones.
| Connection or app | Manufacturer compatibility | Basic audio playback | Model-specific settings and controls | Firmware or product management |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phone Bluetooth settings | Works with the phone’s compatible Bluetooth audio devices, including Skullcandy headphones | Yes, once pairing succeeds | Limited to the phone’s standard device and audio options | Not a replacement for a manufacturer app |
| Bose Music app | Supported Bose products listed by Bose | Controls compatible Bose products through the Bose ecosystem | Available for supported Bose models | Available only where Bose provides support for that product |
| Skullcandy App | Only Skullcandy models that Skullcandy marks as app-compatible | Requires the product to be paired to the phone first | Skullcandy-specific features when the model supports them | Depends on the exact model and Skullcandy’s implementation |
The practical rule is simple: use Bluetooth settings to get sound, then use the matching manufacturer app if the model supports it. A third-party headset does not inherit the controls of another company’s app merely because both products use Bluetooth.
What should I do if my Skullcandy headphones are missing from the phone’s Bluetooth list?
First separate a Bluetooth discovery problem from a Bose Music compatibility problem. Bose Music cannot solve a headset that the phone itself cannot see.
If the headphones never appear
- Return to the model’s instructions and deliberately place the headset in pairing mode; simply turning it on may not be enough.
- Keep the phone on its Bluetooth settings screen while scanning, then select the Skullcandy product name when it appears.
- Check that you are selecting the Skullcandy entry rather than a nearby device with a similar name.
If the headphones appear but will not connect
- Cancel the pending attempt and start pairing mode again according to the model instructions.
- Use the phone’s Bluetooth list as the primary control point. Do not switch to Bose Music expecting it to complete a Skullcandy pairing.
- Once the phone reports a successful connection, test audio before opening any companion app.
If Bluetooth works but the Skullcandy App cannot link
Verify the exact model against Skullcandy’s app-support information. A model can provide normal Bluetooth audio and still be excluded from the Skullcandy App because of the technical limitations Skullcandy describes. In that case, the missing app link is a compatibility limit, not a failure of the Bluetooth connection.
If Bose Music keeps prompting you to add a product
That prompt is intended for a supported Bose product. You can dismiss it and continue using the phone’s Bluetooth settings for the Skullcandy headset. Reinstalling Bose Music or repeating the My Bose > + > Headphones and Frames path will not make a Skullcandy model appear.

Can Bose Music provide Skullcandy’s equalizer or firmware controls?
No. Bose Music cannot provide Skullcandy-specific controls because it does not support Skullcandy headphones. Any settings, firmware tools or product features exposed through an app must come from the manufacturer app that supports that model.
For a compatible Skullcandy product, check the Skullcandy App after Bluetooth pairing. For a model that Skullcandy identifies as unsupported, use the controls built into the headset and the standard options provided by the phone. Avoid treating a missing app feature as a hardware fault until you have checked model compatibility.

What if I specifically need Bose Music controls?
Choose a Bose headphone or earbud that appears in Bose’s current supported-product catalog. Bose’s own pairing flow is designed around selecting a supported product in My Bose, so app-dependent features require a model in that catalog.
If you already own Skullcandy headphones, replacing them is unnecessary for ordinary listening: phone Bluetooth remains sufficient for audio. A Bose purchase becomes relevant only when Bose Music controls are a requirement, rather than simply because the phone already has Bose Music installed.
| Your priority | Most appropriate route | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Play music, video or calls through existing Skullcandy headphones | Phone Bluetooth settings | This is the documented way to pair the Skullcandy product for audio. |
| Use Skullcandy-specific app functions | Skullcandy App, if the exact model is supported | Skullcandy requires Bluetooth pairing first and support varies by model. |
| Use Bose Music’s product controls | A supported Bose headphone or earbud | Bose Music is built for products in Bose’s supported catalog. |
Does the phone type change the answer?
No. Android and iPhone users should both begin in the phone’s Bluetooth settings for a Skullcandy headset. The names and placement of settings can differ by operating-system version, but the compatibility boundary does not: Bose Music still targets supported Bose products, while Skullcandy App support depends on the exact Skullcandy model.
Permissions requested by a companion app should be handled within that app’s documented setup. Granting Bose Music permission to scan does not grant it the ability to control a Skullcandy product; permissions allow detection of products the app already supports.

What is the bottom-line compatibility rule?
Think of the headphones and the app as belonging to separate manufacturer ecosystems. Skullcandy headphones can connect to a phone over standard Bluetooth, and compatible models may then link to the Skullcandy App. They cannot be added to or controlled by Bose Music, whose documented product list and setup flow cover Bose devices.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I keep Bose Music installed while using Skullcandy headphones?
Yes. The apps can coexist on the same phone, but Bose Music will not manage the Skullcandy headset. Use the phone’s Bluetooth settings for the Skullcandy connection and open Bose Music only when you are working with a supported Bose product.
How can I tell whether two similarly named Skullcandy products have different app support?
Use the complete model name, including suffixes such as ANC, Evo, 2 or 3, and compare that exact name with Skullcandy’s current support information. Do not assume that app support for one product in a family applies to every product with a similar name.
Why does a companion app need permissions before it can find headphones?
The app uses the permissions requested during setup to scan for and communicate with products it supports. Allowing those permissions can help detection, but it cannot make an unsupported Skullcandy model eligible for Bose Music.

They can still be paired through the phone’s Bluetooth settings for ordinary audio use. App support affects manufacturer-specific controls, not the basic Bluetooth pairing route described for getting sound to the headphones.
