Yes: ChatGPT can turn your favorite series, planned attendance days, and event priorities into a personalized convention itinerary much faster than assembling one by hand. Tom’s Guide writer Elton Jones reported using it to plan for Anime NYC 2026, where it organized panels, screenings, guest appearances, and autograph opportunities around his interests. The useful distinction is that ChatGPT can help decide what to look for and how to prioritize it; the convention’s official app and channels remain the place to confirm current schedules, capacity rules, guest appearances, and autograph procedures.
Anime NYC 2026 took place August 20–22 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, so its dates are now past. Jones’s experience is best understood as a case study in planning for a fan convention, not as a current schedule for a future event.

Can ChatGPT plan a fan convention schedule?
It can help create a first-pass itinerary tailored to a fan’s interests and attendance days. In Jones’s Anime NYC example, he provided a long list of anime and manga he follows and asked for must-see panels, screenings, and special events; the resulting plan surfaced relevant guests and programs across his chosen days.
The value is in reducing the work of connecting a large schedule to one person’s priorities. A convention weekend may mix celebrity panels, manga announcements, autograph sessions, artist alley, exclusive merchandise, and cosplay events. Manually comparing event pages and schedules can be time-consuming, and a packed program makes it easy to overlook something appealing. That does not make the generated itinerary an official schedule, reservation, ticket, or guarantee of entry. It is a planning aid. For any future event, use the model to organize priorities, then check operational details with the convention itself.
What did ChatGPT put on the Anime NYC itinerary?
Jones’s plan connected his stated fandoms to specific event recommendations and guest appearances. These examples show the kind of matching a detailed prompt can request; they are not a guide to future Anime NYC programming.

The plan illustrates how a fan’s interests can be translated into a schedule, but the source does not establish that every recommendation was a reservation, a guaranteed meet-and-greet, or an event with open capacity.
What should I tell ChatGPT before a fan convention?
Give it the information that changes what counts as a good plan: the fandoms you care about, which days you will attend, and what kinds of activities matter most. The more explicit the priorities, the more useful the shortlist is likely to be.

List your interests precisely
Name the series, films, games, or creators you would actually choose over other events. If a franchise spans several entries, identify them, as Jones did by listing Dragon Ball along with Dragon Ball Z, GT, Super, and Daima. His other interests included My Hero Academia and My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, The Ghost in the Shell (2026 series), Gachiakuta, Kagurabachi, Kaiju No. 8, Dan Da Dan, Chainsaw Man, Demon Slayer, and Sailor Moon.
State your attendance days
Tell the model exactly which convention days you will be there. An event you cannot attend should not take space in your usable itinerary. If your attendance dates are uncertain, say so rather than letting the plan imply availability.

Ask for the types of events you want considered: panels, screenings, guest appearances, autograph opportunities, or other special events. You can also tell it which categories should take priority if the schedule forces choices. The goal is not to include every vaguely relevant item; it is to surface the events you would most regret missing.
Provide the schedule you want it to use
For a future convention, give ChatGPT the official program or event details you are relying on, if you have them, and ask it to distinguish confirmed information from anything uncertain. Do not assume a generated itinerary has current schedule access or that an event mentioned in a prior year will return. Keep the official source available so you can verify each event yourself.

Ask for a day-by-day plan that ranks relevant events and calls out schedule conflicts. A focused request is more useful than simply asking for “the best convention schedule,” because it specifies your interests, days, activities, and what the output needs to help you decide.
- Give the event and dates. Identify the convention and the days you expect to attend.
- List your fandoms and preferred activities. Include any franchise details that matter, and say whether panels, screenings, guests, or autograph opportunities are your priorities.
- Ask for a ranked, day-by-day shortlist. Request the event name, time, and location only when those details appear in the schedule you supplied or otherwise have a clear basis.
- Ask it to flag conflicts and unknowns. Have it identify overlapping choices and mark missing or unconfirmed details instead of filling gaps with guesses.
- Compare the proposed plan with official convention information. Confirm the schedule and practical participation rules before treating any item as a real plan.
A reusable prompt could read: “I’m attending [convention] on [days]. I’m most interested in [series, creators, or fandoms]. Prioritize [panels, screenings, guest appearances, autograph opportunities, or other events]. Replace the bracketed details with your own information. If the schedule is long, ask for the most relevant options first, then request a closer review of the day or category where you have competing choices.

Jones’s central assessment was that the result was both quick to make and tailored to his interests. He also cautioned that ChatGPT might not get someone into a sold-out panel or shorten autograph lines. Those limits define the proper division of labor: use an AI-generated plan to decide what deserves attention, then rely on official channels for whether and how you can attend.

- Prioritize before the schedule gets crowded. Label events as must-see, strong preference, or optional so a conflict has a clear decision rule.
- Keep related items visible. Ask for panels, screenings, guest appearances, and autograph opportunities separately, rather than treating every recommendation as interchangeable.
- Check each item against the official schedule. Confirm that it is listed for the correct day and that the details you need are still current.
- Revisit the plan when official details change. A prior itinerary cannot establish the current status of an event or guest.
- Leave operational questions to the convention. Confirm capacity, reservations, and autograph procedures through the official app or convention channels.
The most important limitation is practical, not cosmetic: a plan can identify an event you care about without changing its capacity or queue. ChatGPT can organize competing options, but it cannot convert a recommendation into entry or reduce the time spent waiting.
Can I use the same method for Comic-Con or another fan event?
Yes. The same approach can be adapted to events such as Comic-Con, New York Comic Con, Dragon Con, PAX, Star Wars Celebration, and Gen Con: provide the interests and attendance days that matter to you, specify the event types you want prioritized, and ask for a conflict-aware shortlist. The event names are examples of the method’s possible uses, not a claim that any particular convention’s schedule or app works the same way.

For every convention, the generated plan should be treated as a personal organizing layer rather than the authority for event details. The schedule, guest appearances, capacity rules, and participation procedures can differ by event, so verify them through that convention’s official channels.
