Block launched “Bitcoin Does” on October 1, 2026, calling it the company’s first major consumer advertising campaign centered on Bitcoin. The national rollout targets people who know what Bitcoin is but have never used it, presenting everyday examples—buying flowers, paying at a shop, or splitting a dinner bill—instead of leading with trading charts or technical explanations.
The campaign is aimed at roughly 60 million “bitcoin-curious” Americans, a Block estimate based on an August 2026 online survey of 8,669 U.S. adults who were aware of Bitcoin. That figure describes the intended audience, not the number of people the ads converted or the campaign’s eventual performance.

“Bitcoin Does” is a consumer-awareness campaign arguing that Bitcoin can function as practical, everyday money. Its creative starts with familiar financial frustrations—including higher prices, rent increases and confusing loan terms—and contrasts them with scenes in which Bitcoin is used for ordinary purchases or payments.
Block’s campaign copy says, “The modern economy makes no sense,” then proposes “a better economy” in which nobody can print more money, dictate where people spend theirs, or take profits through unearned fees. Those are campaign arguments, not independently verified economic conclusions.

Miles Suter, Block’s Bitcoin Lead, described the work as the company’s first major illustration of what a bitcoin-centric financial system could look like. GrandArmy founder Eric Collins said the creative goal was to raise awareness through relatable, everyday scenarios.
Who is Block targeting with “Bitcoin Does”?
Block is targeting people who have heard of Bitcoin but have not yet bought, tried or used it. In Block’s August 2026 survey, about 22% of U.S. adults who had never owned Bitcoin said they were open to buying, trying or using it. Block weighted that survey demographically and used it to estimate an addressable audience of approximately 60 million Americans.

What do the “Bitcoin Does” ads show?
The campaign includes five 15-second films, a 30-second compilation, shorter cutdowns, vertical edits and versions designed to work with the sound off. The settings include a nail salon, a vinyl shop and a flower shop.
Rather than explaining blockchain mechanics, the spots put Bitcoin into recognizable transactions. A flower purchase or a shared restaurant bill is intended to make the idea feel as routine as using a conventional payment app. The approach also lets Block acknowledge financial pressure—such as rising prices or rent—without requiring viewers to understand wallets, mining or network fees before the story begins.

This division matters because “using Bitcoin” can mean several different things. Keeping a balance in an app generally leaves important operational responsibilities with the provider. Self-custody moves signing authority to the user, which can improve control but also makes backup and recovery the user’s responsibility.
What does it mean to hold Bitcoin yourself?
Self-custody means you control the private keys that authorize Bitcoin transactions rather than relying on an exchange or app to hold them for you. A hardware wallet is a dedicated device designed to keep those signing keys isolated from an internet-connected computer or phone during normal use.
The trade-off is responsibility. Before transferring funds, a self-custody user must set up a recovery method, protect it from theft or loss, verify addresses on the device and understand that a provider generally cannot reset a missing recovery phrase. Bitkey is the self-custody product named in Block’s campaign; the campaign does not establish that it is the right choice for every user or disclose a universal price, availability or independent security ranking.
Is Block’s Bitcoin service available in every state?
No. Block says its Bitcoin services are not available everywhere, and it explicitly identifies restrictions in New York. Availability can vary by product, account eligibility and location, so a prospective user should check the current in-app eligibility screen and applicable state requirements before attempting a purchase or transfer.

Block also warns that its Bitcoin services are not FDIC insured and involve risk, including the possibility of monetary loss. The advertising’s everyday-payment scenarios do not remove Bitcoin’s price volatility, transaction risks or the possibility of irreversible mistakes.
What should readers make of the campaign’s economic claims?
The ads are positioning and education, not a neutral evaluation of monetary policy. Statements about money printing, fees or a “better economy” express Block’s point of view. Bitcoin can be used for transfers and payments, but users still need to consider price fluctuations, network costs, merchant acceptance, taxes and the rules that apply in their jurisdiction.
The available public information also does not establish whether “Bitcoin Does” increased purchases, payment volume or retention. Those outcomes would require campaign and operating data that Block has not released.
