That means a completed campaign, ship upgrades, collectibles, challenges and other progress made in the original release should not be expected to appear automatically in Resynced. Ubisoft’s official announcements explain the remake, its launch platforms and its Resynced-to-Resynced cross-progression, but they do not state that an original-game save can be imported. Why copying files is not a documented solution
Save files are tied to a game’s save format, platform services and account systems. Resynced was rebuilt on a newer engine, so placing an old save in another installation folder is not a supported conversion method. No third-party converter is identified as an approved or proven workaround in the available information. Ubisoft’s support article states: “Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced supports automatic cross-progression between all platforms.” Read that sentence in context: it concerns Resynced saves moving between Resynced platforms. It is not an announcement of backward compatibility with the 2013 game. The support page also says the same Ubisoft account is required to access a cloud save elsewhere.
How does Resynced cross-progression work?
Cross-progression is useful after you begin a new Resynced save. It is not a bridge from the original game.

- Install or open Resynced on another supported platform. Resynced launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on July 9, 2026, according to Ubisoft’s launch information.
- Use the same Ubisoft account on the second platform. The support documentation says the same account is required to access the cloud save elsewhere.
- Choose the cloud save when prompted. This continues the Resynced playthrough on the other platform; it does not bring over progress from the 2013 release.
The support excerpt does not establish that game ownership, downloadable content entitlements or platform purchases transfer with the cloud save. What does Resynced New Game+ carry over?
New Game+ is now a current Resynced feature, but only for a previous Resynced run. Ubisoft’s October 26, 2026 update article says Title Update 1.0.8 added New Game+. It carries specified gear, upgrades and resources while resetting story and location progress.

Why New Game+ is not a migration workaround
New Game+ requires a finished or otherwise eligible Resynced run to exist first. It is a replay mode inside the remake, not an importer. If your only completed campaign is in the original Black Flag, New Game+ gives you no way to seed that progress into Resynced.

What should I do if I want to keep my old playthrough?
Continue the original game in the environment that supports it. PlayStation says the original PS4 version remains playable on PS5 through backward compatibility, separately from the PS5 remake. That compatibility lets you keep using the old save in the original release; it does not move the save into Resynced.
Keep the original and remake installations conceptually separate
- Label the original release and Resynced as separate games when managing cloud storage or local backups.
- Do not overwrite an original save while experimenting with an unfamiliar utility or manual file copy.

Can I use the same Ubisoft account for both games?
