Yes—if you want to hear your surroundings while exercising or working, the Beyerdynamic Amiron 200 is one of the more practical open-ear true-wireless options. Its ear hooks hold securely for running, its sound is clear at sensible volume, and the case supports both USB-C and wireless charging. The trade-offs are inherent to the open design: people nearby can hear your music, bass and detail are less isolated than with sealed earbuds, and there is no automatic wear detection.
Tom’s Guide’s hands-on review found the Amiron 200 comfortable for office use and secure during runs, with slight movement during hard HIIT. Touch controls reacted too easily when hair or clothing brushed them, although the beyerdynamic app can disable touch input. This review explains the fit, sound, battery, water resistance, controls, connectivity, pricing and alternatives so you can decide whether open-ear listening suits your routine.

What is the Beyerdynamic Amiron 200, and who is it for?
The Amiron 200 is an on-ear, open-ear true-wireless earbud. Instead of sealing the ear canal, each bud rests beside the ear and uses an ergonomic hook to stay in place. That leaves your ear canals open, so you can hear traffic, coworkers, announcements and conversation while audio plays.
That design makes the Amiron 200 most suitable for runners, cyclists who need situational awareness, gym users, and people who dislike the plugged-up feeling of sealed in-ear headphones. It also works well at a desk when you want music without losing awareness of colleagues. It is a poor match for flights, loud public transport or anyone who needs strong isolation, because outside noise remains audible and your music can leak to nearby people.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The short verdict
- Best fit: outdoor exercise, walking, office listening and other situations where awareness matters.
- Main strengths: secure hooks, clear moderate-volume sound, multipoint pairing, long rated battery life and flexible charging.
- Main compromises: audible leakage at higher volume, no wear detection, very sensitive touch controls and limited water protection.
How does the open-ear design affect awareness and sound leakage?
Because the Amiron 200 does not close the ear canal, it preserves a more natural connection with your surroundings than sealed earbuds. You can hear a car approaching or a colleague speaking without pausing playback. The same acoustic opening lets some of your music escape. Tom’s Guide noticed leakage becoming obvious above roughly half volume, which is acceptable outdoors but potentially distracting in a quiet office, library or shared room.
Open-ear listening also changes how you judge sound. External noise competes with the music, so a level that sounds full at home may seem thin beside traffic or gym equipment. Raising the volume restores some detail but increases leakage and can reduce the safety benefit of remaining aware. Start at a moderate level and increase only as much as needed; the reviewer found the clearest, best-defined presentation at lower levels.
The Amiron 200 uses a dynamic driver measuring 18 × 11 × 4.85 mm according to beyerdynamic’s launch data. Its stated frequency response is 20–20,000 Hz, but that specification does not predict how much bass you will perceive in a noisy environment. Fit, ear shape and surrounding sound have a larger effect with an open design than they do with a sealed earbud.
Are the Amiron 200 secure enough for running and HIIT?
The ear hooks are the reason the Amiron 200 works better for running than many loose-fitting open earbuds. Tom’s Guide found them very secure on runs. During more explosive HIIT movements, the buds shifted slightly, but they did not fall out. That makes them dependable for steady running and general training, with a small caveat for rapid burpees, sprints or movements that repeatedly jolt the head.
What to check before a workout
- Place each hook fully around the ear before starting playback; the bud should rest beside the canal rather than press into it.
- Move your head through the motions you expect to perform. If a hook catches on glasses, a hat or hair, adjust those items before the workout.
- Use a level that lets you hear approaching people and equipment. Louder playback defeats the awareness advantage and makes leakage more noticeable.
- After sweating, wipe the earbuds and let them dry before putting them in the charging case.
The hooks add stability but also make the Amiron 200 more visible and less compact than a conventional in-ear bud. People who wear helmets, over-ear hearing protection or tight headbands should check for physical interference before buying.
How good is Amiron 200 sound quality?
At moderate levels, the hands-on review described the sound as clear and well defined. Voices and podcasts should remain intelligible, and music has enough separation for casual listening. The open presentation feels less enclosed than a sealed earbud, which many listeners prefer for long sessions.

There is no acoustic seal to reinforce low frequencies, so bass impact will not match an isolating in-ear model in a noisy setting. The beyerdynamic app provides EQ and other customization, allowing you to adjust the tonal balance rather than relying on a fixed factory profile. EQ cannot remove environmental noise or prevent leakage; it changes the balance of the signal sent to the drivers.
For calls, Tom’s Guide judged the microphone performance better than the reviewer’s AirPods 3 comparison but below the Amiron ZERO. That places the Amiron 200 in the usable category for routine calls, meetings and voice messages, rather than making it a standout choice for demanding professional conferencing in loud surroundings.
How long does the battery last, and how does charging work?
beyerdynamic rates the earbuds for up to 11 hours of playback on a charge and up to 36 hours when the charging case is included. Actual runtime changes with volume, wireless conditions, codec use and other variables, so treat those figures as maximum ratings rather than a guarantee for every session.
Each earbud has a 70 mAh battery and the case has a 480 mAh battery. The case charges through USB-C or on a compatible wireless charging pad. A five-minute top-up is rated for about 90 minutes of playback, useful when you discover an empty case before a run. The launch materials mention wireless charging and the five-minute quick-charge feature; they do not establish that a charging pad is included, so plan to supply your own pad if you want wireless charging.

Charging habits that avoid problems
- Keep the USB-C port dry before connecting a cable.
- Seat both earbuds in the case so their charging contacts align; a bud that is not seated will not receive the case’s charge.
- Use the five-minute boost for a short outing, then complete a full charge when convenient.
- Do not put wet earbuds into the case. IP54 protects the earbuds from limited dust and water splashes, not from water trapped around charging contacts.
What Bluetooth features and app functions are included?
The Amiron 200 uses Bluetooth 5.3 with the HFP, A2DP and AVRCP profiles. It supports the SBC and AAC codecs, multipoint connections for two devices, an advertised range of up to 15 metres, EQ customization and over-the-air firmware updates through the beyerdynamic app.
Multipoint is useful when a phone and laptop are both paired: audio can move between the two without manually repairing each time. The stated 15-metre range is an open-space figure; walls, bodies, crowded wireless environments and the source device can reduce it. Firmware updates are installed through the app, so occasional app access is worthwhile even if you keep the default sound.

Basic setup
- Charge the earbuds and case, then open the case near your phone or computer.
- Open the device’s Bluetooth settings and select Amiron 200 from the available devices.
- Install the beyerdynamic app, add the earbuds, and check for firmware updates.
- Set your preferred EQ and decide whether touch controls should remain enabled.
- Pair the second device for multipoint, then test switching between a call on one device and media on the other.
Menu wording can change with app updates and phone operating systems. If multipoint behaves inconsistently, disconnect the unused device, update the firmware, and pair the second device again.
Are the touch controls and call features easy to use?
The touch controls respond quickly, but Tom’s Guide found them overly sensitive: brushing hair or the side of the head could trigger an action. The app includes an option to turn touch controls off, which is useful if you prefer to control playback from a phone or smartwatch or if your hairstyle causes accidental taps.

Playback therefore does not automatically pause when you remove an earbud, and it does not automatically resume when you put one back. Call quality is adequate for everyday use, with the reviewer ranking it above an AirPods 3 comparison but below the Amiron ZERO. In a windy or loud location, the open construction means you hear the environment as well as the call, so a quiet position remains preferable.
Can you use the Amiron 200 in rain or at the gym?
The earbuds carry an IP54 rating. That rating covers limited dust ingress and water splashes; it is not a submersion rating and does not make the earbuds suitable for swimming, showering or deliberate dunking. Sweat and light splashes are within the kind of use IP54 is intended to address, but heavy rain and water jets deserve caution.
The charging case is the part to protect most carefully. Keep it out of rain and away from sinks, dry the earbuds before storage, and never charge while moisture is present. IP ratings describe laboratory protection conditions, not a promise that repeated exposure will leave every unit unaffected.

How much does the Amiron 200 cost?
beyerdynamic launched the Amiron 200 at a recommended retail price of €179 in 2025. Tom’s Guide reported an Amazon price of $199 in the United States and £159 in the United Kingdom in 2026. Retail prices, promotions and stock vary by country and date, so verify the live price before ordering.
At those prices, you are paying for the open-ear construction, secure hook, multipoint, long battery rating and wireless charging rather than for noise isolation. The value is strongest if you regularly need awareness and dislike sealed earbuds. If your priority is maximum bass, quiet commuting or the smallest possible case, a conventional sealed model may deliver more for the same money.
How does the Amiron 200 compare with other open-ear earbuds?
Open-ear models share the awareness-versus-isolation compromise, but their hooks, clips, battery systems and controls differ. The table below identifies where the Amiron 200 is documented and where a competing model would need to be checked individually rather than assumed to match.
| Buying factor | Amiron 200 | Other open-ear designs |
|---|---|---|
| Environmental awareness | Ear canal remains open; outside sound stays audible | Generally open, but acoustic placement varies by model |
| Running stability | Hooked design; secure in running tests, slight HIIT movement reported | Varies by hook, clip or band design; not stated for unspecified models |
| Leakage | Expected from open construction; noticeable above roughly 50% volume in the review | Varies with driver position and volume; not stated |
| Battery | Up to 11 hours per charge, 36 hours with case | Varies by model; not stated |
| Codecs and multipoint | SBC, AAC and two-device multipoint | Varies by model; verify each specification |
| Water resistance | IP54 | Varies by model; verify the exact rating |
| Controls and wear detection | Touch controls can be disabled; no wear detection | Varies by model; not stated |
| Call quality | Useful for everyday calls; below Amiron ZERO in Tom’s Guide’s comparison | Varies by microphones and placement; not stated |
| Regional launch pricing | €179 RRP; $199 US and £159 UK prices reported in 2026 | Varies by model and market |
Amiron 200 versus Amiron ZERO
The Amiron ZERO uses a clip-style approach, while the Amiron 200 uses hooks. Tom’s Guide describes the ZERO as having shorter battery life and the 200 as better suited to longer listening. Choose the ZERO if a clip is more comfortable with your glasses or hair; choose the 200 if hook security and longer sessions matter more. The review also rated call quality below the ZERO, so frequent callers may prefer the clip-style model after trying both fits.

Advantages
- Hooks keep the earbuds secure for ordinary running.
- Open construction preserves awareness of surroundings.
- Clear, well-defined sound at moderate volume.
- Up to 11 hours per charge and 36 hours with the case.
- USB-C and wireless charging, including a five-minute quick-charge feature.
- Bluetooth 5.3, AAC/SBC support, multipoint and app-based EQ and firmware updates.

Should you buy the Beyerdynamic Amiron 200?
Buy it if environmental awareness is a requirement, you run or train regularly, and you value a stable hook plus long battery life. It is also a sensible office option when moderate leakage is acceptable and you want to hear coworkers without removing an earbud.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Skip it if you need silence on planes, strong bass in noisy streets, automatic pause when removing an earbud, or reliable protection against heavy water exposure. In those cases, the Amiron 200’s open architecture and IP54 limit are fundamental constraints, not settings that an app update can fix.
Final verdict
The Beyerdynamic Amiron 200 is a convincing open-ear workout and everyday earbud. Its secure hooks, clear moderate-volume presentation, multipoint connection, long rated endurance and flexible charging address the practical problems that matter most during active use. Leakage, sensitive controls, the lack of wear detection and only splash-level protection keep it from being a universal replacement for sealed true-wireless earbuds. For runners and office listeners who deliberately want to stay connected to their surroundings, however, the Amiron 200 is a well-balanced choice at its reported regional prices.

Will the Amiron 200 work reliably through walls?
The published range is up to 15 metres in suitable conditions. Interior walls, your body and nearby wireless equipment can shorten that distance, so keep the source device nearby when moving between rooms.
Can I wear the Amiron 200 in heavy rain or while swimming?
No. IP54 is intended for limited dust and splashes, not immersion or water jets. Dry the earbuds before returning them to the case, and keep the case away from rain and standing water.
What should I do if the earbuds pause when I brush my hair?
Open the beyerdynamic app and disable touch controls, then use your phone, computer or watch for playback commands. If the problem continues after disabling touch, remove and re-pair the earbuds.
Are the black, white and sport versions different technically?
The available documentation lists those as color or variant choices but does not establish different drivers, batteries or Bluetooth features. Check the exact regional listing if a sport variant is priced differently.
