The best robot vacuum for a dog home depends on your floors and your biggest headache: embedded hair, long strands wrapped around brushes, scattered toys, or mopping after muddy paws. For an all-rounder, Tom’s Guide’s October 8, 2026 guide names the Roborock Saros 20; for other needs, its picks and RTINGS’ 2026 guide point to different models. Their rankings use different tests, so treat them as evidence about each model’s strengths—not as one directly comparable leaderboard.
Which robot vacuum is best for pet hair?
For the broadest mix of pet-hair pickup and obstacle avoidance, Tom’s Guide names the Roborock Saros 20 its best overall pick. It reports 36,000 Pa suction and a pet-hair score of 80, with strong hair pickup and obstacle avoidance in its own testing; the guide also says the mop missed some sticky spots. Those figures describe that publisher’s specification and test result, not a universal standard.
There is no single best fit for every dog home. A carpet-heavy house may benefit more from a brushroll designed to cut down on wrapping, while a mostly hard-floor home may prioritize mopping. The five recommendations below are organized around those differences. They draw on Tom’s Guide’s guide, last updated October 8, 2026, and RTINGS’ 2026 guide; neither publisher’s ranking should be read as a head-to-head test of every model in this list.

| Best fit | Model | What the cited guide reports | Trade-off to consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best all-rounder | Roborock Saros 20 | Tom’s Guide: 36,000 Pa suction, pet-hair score 80; strong hair pickup and obstacle avoidance | Some sticky mopping spots were missed in Tom’s Guide’s test |
| Value-oriented pick | Eufy Omni C28 | Tom’s Guide: 87% pet-hair test score | Airflow can blow debris out of the cleaning path; navigation can be erratic |
| Carpet pick | Roborock Qrevo Curv 2 Flow | Tom’s Guide: 20,000 Pa suction, pet-hair score 75; handles lighter hair well | Dense, tangled clumps are harder for it to pick up |
| Hard-floor and mopping pick | Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai | Tom’s Guide: 18,000 Pa suction, pet-hair score 82.5; strong mopping | Tom’s Guide describes it as bulky and premium in design |
| Obstacle-handling alternative | MOVA P10 Pro Ultra | RTINGS: especially capable at obstacle handling | RTINGS reports weaker carpet hair pickup |
The values in this table come from two publishers’ separate guides and methods. Suction ratings and pet-hair scores are model-level specifications or test results; they are not population statistics, and scores from different publishers should not be compared as if measured on the same scale.
Best all-rounder: Roborock Saros 20
Choose this if you want one machine for a mix of everyday hair pickup and obstacle handling, and you are willing to treat its mop as a separate capability to judge. Tom’s Guide reports strong hair pickup and obstacle avoidance, but its missed sticky spots are a reminder that a good vacuum result does not guarantee an equally good mopping result.
The 36,000 Pa figure is a specification, while the score of 80 comes from Tom’s Guide’s pet-hair test. Neither number predicts exactly how the robot will perform on your dog’s coat, carpet pile, or shedding pattern. If your home has frequent sticky spills, plan on occasional manual spot cleaning even if the robot runs daily.

Tom’s Guide reports an 87% pet-hair test score for this model, but also notes that airflow can push debris out of the robot’s path and that navigation can be erratic. Those qualifications matter in a dog home: hair pickup is only part of a useful cleaning run if the robot can keep debris in its route and navigate consistently.

Use this pick when the reported hair score is attractive and you can tolerate checking the cleaning pattern. Watch for hair or kibble that gets blown aside, especially along edges or in open areas where the airflow issue is most visible. A high percentage score does not cancel out navigation behavior that may require a second pass.
Carpet pick: Roborock Qrevo Curv 2 Flow
Tom’s Guide identifies this as its carpet option, reporting 20,000 Pa suction and a pet-hair score of 75. Its testing found good handling of lighter pet hair but difficulty with dense tangled clumps. That makes it a more plausible fit for routine, lighter shedding than for a home where thick clumps regularly collect in carpet.
Before choosing it, identify whether the problem is scattered hair or compacted tufts in high-traffic areas. The latter is exactly where the guide found a limitation. Even with a carpet-oriented pick, occasional manual vacuuming may still be needed for embedded or matted hair.

Hard-floor and mopping pick: Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai
For homes dominated by hard floors, Tom’s Guide reports strong mopping and a pet-hair score of 82.5 for this model, alongside 18,000 Pa suction. The guide calls its design bulky and premium; assess the physical size and dock footprint against your available space rather than assuming a feature-rich machine will fit every room.
This is the clearest choice among the five when wet cleaning is a major reason to buy. Still, mopping performance and dry pickup are separate questions. Check whether the robot can reach beneath your furniture and whether the dock has a practical parking location before paying a premium for features you may not be able to use fully.
Obstacle-handling alternative: MOVA P10 Pro Ultra
RTINGS describes this as especially capable at obstacle handling, but weaker at carpet hair pickup. It may suit a household where avoiding objects is a higher priority than extracting hair from carpet. RTINGS’ guide does not provide a comparable pet-hair score or suction figure in the cited findings here, so those values are not stated.
Obstacle capability is useful for homes with toys, bowls, and other everyday clutter, but it is not permission to leave hazards everywhere. You still get the most predictable cleaning by picking up small objects before a run and checking rooms where your dog spends time.

How should I choose between these picks for my floors and dog?
Start with the surface where hair causes the most trouble, then decide how much you value obstacle handling and mopping. A model that does well on hard floors may not lift embedded hair from carpet equally well, while a carpet-oriented choice can still struggle with clumps or give up advantages elsewhere.
- Map your surfaces. Estimate whether the robot will spend most of its time on hard floors, low-pile carpet, or thicker carpet. Hair that is easy to collect from a hard floor can become embedded in carpet, so do not generalize from one room.
- Describe the hair problem. Light daily shedding, long strands, and dense clumps stress different parts of a machine. Long hair emphasizes brush maintenance; clumps emphasize agitation and carpet pickup.
- Set your obstacle tolerance. If toys and objects are routinely left out, give more weight to the obstacle-focused options, but still plan a quick pickup before cleaning.
- Decide whether mopping is essential. A strong vacuum result does not guarantee strong sticky-spot removal. Treat wet cleaning as its own buying axis.
- Budget for upkeep. A self-emptying dock reduces bin handling but does not eliminate brush, filter, or dock care. Include replacement bags, filters, and brushes only after confirming exact compatibility.
- Mostly hard floors: Consider the Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai if mopping is a priority, or the Saros 20 if you want a broader mix of hair pickup and obstacle handling. Tom’s Guide reports missed sticky spots with the Saros 20, so do not assume its mop is the stronger choice for every type of floor mess.
- Carpet with lighter shedding: The Qrevo Curv 2 Flow is Tom’s Guide’s carpet pick, with good handling of lighter pet hair but difficulty with dense tangles. If the carpet is the main problem, weigh that specific limitation more heavily than a high suction figure.
- Hair wrapping around brushes: Prefer a design with a tangle-reducing brushroll, but plan to inspect and clean it. A brush feature can reduce wrapping; it cannot establish that long hair will never wrap.
- Toys and other objects in the way: Obstacle avoidance varies by model and can vary with floor surface. The MOVA P10 Pro Ultra is RTINGS’ obstacle-focused option here, while the Saros Z70 is another model RTINGS describes as having very good obstacle avoidance—though its performance weakens on carpet.
- Both carpet and obstacles: RTINGS says the Roborock Saros Z70 has strong hard-floor pickup and good carpet pet-hair pickup, although some embedded hair remains. Its obstacle avoidance is very good but weaker on carpet, so it is a candidate for mixed-floor homes rather than a guarantee of flawless cleaning everywhere.
These are different trade-offs, not a universal ranking. A household with hard floors, scattered objects, and a need for mopping has a different priority order from one trying to remove hair embedded in carpet.
Do robot vacuums get tangled with long pet hair?
They can. Rubber-brush or tangle-resistant designs can reduce hair wrapping, but long strands still call for inspection and cleaning; no cited guide establishes a model that eliminates the task.
Brush design is only one part of the decision. RTINGS describes the MOVA P50 Pro Ultra as carpet-capable and equipped with a Tri-Cut brushroll, but notes that hair may still wrap. It also reports inconsistent pet-waste avoidance on carpet. The feature may help manage hair, but it should not be mistaken for a promise that the brush or floor will stay clear without maintenance.
Eufy’s support guidance says its RoboVacs can clean pet hair and advises more frequent roller-brush cleaning for pets with long hair. That is manufacturer guidance, not a comparative independent test showing that every model performs equally well. Check and clear the brush when hair accumulates, especially if pickup declines or strands begin wrapping around the roller.
A practical routine is to inspect the roller after the first few runs, then adjust the interval to your dog’s coat and shedding season. Remove wrapped strands before they form a tight band around the ends, and check the intake and side brushes as well as the main roller. A tangle-resistant design lowers the frequency of this work; it does not make the work disappear.
How well do robot vacuums avoid dog toys and accidents?
Obstacle avoidance can reduce collisions with objects, but it is not a reason to leave every toy or pet accident in the robot’s path. Performance differs by model and surface: RTINGS reports that the Saros Z70’s obstacle avoidance weakens on carpet, while its MOVA P50 Pro Ultra findings describe pet-waste avoidance as inconsistent on carpet.

Before a run, remove toys and other small hazards where practical, and manually clean liquid messes. iRobot’s pet-owner guidance says robots are designed for dry pet messes and that liquid accidents should be cleaned manually first. This advice is specific to the manufacturer’s guidance; it is also a sensible precaution when a robot could spread a wet mess through the room.

That makes it important to set expectations: a listed obstacle-detection feature does not mean the robot can reliably identify every object or pet mess in a real home.
Think of avoidance as risk reduction rather than supervision. Low objects, dark items, cords, and messes on carpet can challenge sensors differently from clear objects on hard flooring. A short pre-run check is still the most dependable way to prevent a robot from dragging a toy, scattering kibble, or spreading a wet accident.
Does self-emptying mean a robot needs no maintenance?
No. A self-emptying dock can reduce routine handling of the robot’s dustbin, but it does not remove the need to maintain brushes, filters, or the dock itself. The available guide findings do not establish a maintenance-free model or provide comparable emptying schedules for these recommendations.
For a dog home, think of a dock as a convenience that changes one chore, not a substitute for checking the machine. Long hair can still wrap around a roller, and the guides’ pet-hair findings do not mean filters or other parts never need attention. Before buying, check which consumables fit the exact model and the specific dock configuration; compatibility is not established for every named model here.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Keep the dock area clear so the robot can return and seal correctly. Empty or replace the dock bag when indicated, clean accessible filter surfaces, and inspect the charging contacts if the robot stops docking reliably. These steps are ordinary upkeep, but they matter more in homes where hair and dander accumulate quickly.
How often should I run my Roomba® robot with pets?
iRobot recommends running its Roomba robot daily to keep up with continuous shedding, dander, and tracked debris. That is the manufacturer’s recommendation, not an independently established schedule for every robot, dog, or home.

Use it as a starting point rather than a rule for all households. Shedding, floor coverage, and how quickly hair or tracked debris builds up differ. A daily run does not remove the need to clear brush tangles or address liquid accidents manually.
Frequent shorter runs can keep loose hair from becoming embedded, but they should be scheduled only when floors are clear of wet messes and small hazards. If your dog tracks dirt in after walks, run the robot after the debris is dry and after you have removed anything it could smear or ingest.
What other models are worth considering?
Two additional models in the cited guides illustrate why a dog owner should match features to the problem rather than chase a single score. Tom’s Guide reports that the Eufy Omni S2 has 30,000 Pa suction and a pet-hair score of 84, alongside odor-related fragrance technology; the guide also notes edge and navigation caveats. RTINGS describes the MOVA P50 Pro Ultra as carpet-capable with a Tri-Cut brushroll, but says hair may still wrap and pet-waste avoidance is inconsistent on carpet.
These are relevant alternatives, but the guide findings do not make them direct replacements for any one of the five picks. The Omni S2’s odor-related feature does not resolve the edge or navigation caveats, and the P50 Pro Ultra’s brushroll does not eliminate hair maintenance. Choose based on the specific limitation you can accept.
RTINGS also lists the Roborock Saros Z70 for strong hard-floor pickup and good carpet pet-hair pickup, with some embedded hair left behind. Its obstacle avoidance is very good overall but weaker on carpet. The Roborock Q7 M5 is a budget alternative with basic hazard detection. These descriptions can help narrow a search, but they do not supply a common score that can be merged with Tom’s Guide’s percentages.
What should I verify before buying?
Prices, regional model names, inventory, and replacement-part compatibility are not established by the cited guide findings. Check the exact model sold in your region, its dock configuration, and compatible bags, filters, and brushes before committing. Compare the current purchase price with the recurring cost of dock bags and filters, but verify those amounts from the retailer and manufacturer because they change by market and model.
Recommended Free Tools
- Confirm that the product name and included dock match the model reviewed; similarly named products or regional versions may differ.
- Check the robot’s dimensions and dock footprint, particularly if considering a bulky design or a home with limited floor space.
- Look for the floor-specific pet-hair limitation, not just a headline suction figure or one test score.
- Confirm consumable compatibility against the exact model and dock rather than assuming parts fit across a product family.
- Plan for manual cleanup of liquid messes and routine brush, filter, and dock care even if the robot empties itself.
- Ask whether the machine can cross thresholds and reach the carpeted rooms where hair accumulates; the cited guides do not establish a universal threshold or clearance specification.
- Check the return policy in case navigation, noise, dock size, or carpet pickup does not suit your layout.
Tom’s Guide’s specifications and pet-hair scores above are its own reported model-level data. RTINGS’ descriptions are separate findings from its 2026 guide. No independent testing across all the listed models is established here, so the practical use of these recommendations is to identify promising fits and the trade-offs to verify for your home—not to claim one controlled, five-model test.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a higher Pa rating mean a robot will pick up more dog hair?
Not by itself. A suction specification is only one product measure, while pickup also depends on floor type, brush design, and the test conditions; use a publisher’s stated hair-pickup result alongside the Pa figure rather than treating suction as a complete ranking.
Are pet-hair scores from different review sites directly comparable?
No common test scale is established for the scores cited here. A percentage from one publisher and a score from another should be read within that publisher’s own testing, not used to declare a precise winner across sites.
Will a robot vacuum remove dog dander as well as visible hair?
The cited guides discuss pet-hair performance and routine debris rather than providing a comparative dander-removal test. If dander control is a priority, these findings alone do not establish which named model performs best for it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDo robot vacuums get tangled with long pet hair?
They can. Rubber or tangle-resistant rollers may reduce wrapping, but long hair still requires inspection and cleaning. Eufy advises more frequent roller-brush cleaning for long-haired pets.
Can I let a robot vacuum clean up a dog accident?
Manually clean liquid accidents first. iRobot says its robots are designed for dry pet messes and that liquid accidents should be cleaned manually before a run.
Does a self-emptying dock remove all maintenance?
No. It reduces dustbin handling, but brushes, filters, dock components, and consumables still need inspection or replacement. Verify parts for the exact robot and dock.
How often should I run my Roomba® robot with pets?
iRobot recommends daily runs to keep up with continuous shedding, dander, and tracked debris. Treat that as manufacturer guidance and adjust for your dog, floors, and how quickly debris builds up.
Is a robot vacuum-mop automatically good at both jobs?
No. Mopping is a separate performance axis. Tom’s Guide found strong mopping from the Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai, while its Saros 20 test missed some sticky spots, so evaluate vacuuming and mopping separately.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Match the robot to the mess you actually have. The Saros 20 is Tom’s Guide’s all-rounder, the Qrevo Curv 2 Flow targets lighter carpet hair, the Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai emphasizes hard-floor mopping, the Eufy Omni C28 offers a value-oriented hair result with navigation caveats, and the MOVA P10 Pro Ultra prioritizes obstacle handling. Whichever you choose, clear hazards, clean liquid accidents manually, and keep up with brush, filter, and dock maintenance.
