There is no defensible, independently tested first-to-fifth ranking in the available evidence. However, five current models stand out as manufacturer-documented candidates for carpet and rug owners: Roborock Qrevo CurvX, Roborock Qrevo Edge Series, ECOVACS DEEBOT X9 PRO OMNI, ECOVACS DEEBOT T80 OMNI, and iRobot Roomba j9+.

Choose among them by looking beyond the headline suction number. Brush agitation, airflow and sealing, carpet recognition, repeat passes, pile-height clearance, pet-hair handling, navigation and (for mop combos) rug protection all affect real cleaning. The specifications below are manufacturer claims, not results from a shared independent test.

What should you look for in a robot vacuum for carpet?

Carpet pickup depends on several interacting parts. iRobot explains that suction is only one factor, alongside agitation, the debris being collected, the air path and how well the system is sealed. A higher Pascal (Pa) figure from one company therefore cannot be treated as proof that its robot cleans better than a model from another company. See iRobot’s explanation of the factors involved in suction performance at iRobot’s Roomba comparison and suction guidance.

  • Agitation and brush design: A roller must work debris out of carpet fibers, and its shape and hair-management design matter as much as airflow.
  • Carpet response: Automatic boost, carpet recognition, repeat passes and carpet-first scheduling can increase the time and power spent on rugs.
  • Pile and edges: Thick or shag carpet can challenge clearance, while curled rug edges can stop a robot or cause it to drag a mop.
  • Navigation: Obstacle recognition and room prioritization reduce missed areas around furniture, cords and pet bowls.
  • Maintenance: A full dustbin, clogged filter or wrapped roller can erase the benefit of a strong motor. Confirm compatible bags, filters and brushes for the exact variant.
  • Wet-cleaning behavior: A combination robot needs a reliable way to keep a rug dry, such as lifting or retracting its mop or allowing no-mop zones.

Use the five models below as a shortlist to investigate, not as a universal performance order.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Which five robot vacuums are documented for carpet?

The table summarizes capabilities and figures stated on the manufacturers’ pages. A suction value is included only with its stated attribution; the numbers were not measured using a common protocol.

Model Carpet features described by manufacturer Published figure or claim
Roborock Qrevo CurvX Automatic carpet suction boost; second cleaning pass per room; carpet-first cleaning options See Roborock’s Qrevo CurvX product page
Roborock Qrevo Edge Series Carpet settings; chassis elevation for mid-to-high-pile carpet; settings require manual activation in the app Roborock states 18,500 Pa suction and 99.5% hair removal on carpet on its Qrevo Edge Series page
ECOVACS DEEBOT X9 PRO OMNI Listed in ECOVACS’s carpet-and-rug category ECOVACS states 16,600 Pa suction on its carpet category page
ECOVACS DEEBOT T80 OMNI Carpet recognition ECOVACS states 18,000 Pa suction on the same category page
iRobot Roomba j9+ Carpet and hard-floor cleaning; room prioritization; obstacle recognition; multi-surface brush system; self-emptying iRobot says the j9+ has 100% stronger suction than Roomba Combo i Series robots on its Roomba j9+ product page

ECOVACS also lists the DEEBOT T30C with a stated 20,000 Pa figure. It is an additional model to investigate, not one of the five candidates above, because the category page does not establish comparative performance.

Is the Roborock Qrevo CurvX a good candidate for carpet?

It is a strong candidate if you want the robot to adjust carpet cleaning without changing a setting every time. Roborock describes automatic carpet suction boost, a second cleaning pass for each room and carpet-first cleaning options on the Qrevo CurvX product page.

Those functions address three common carpet problems: ordinary suction may be insufficient when the robot crosses from hard floor, one pass can leave embedded grit, and mixed-floor homes often need rugs cleaned before hard-floor mopping. Confirm in the app which options are enabled by default and whether a second pass increases noise, battery use or cleaning time in your home.

What to check before buying

  • Test the robot on the thickest rug edge in your home, not only on low-pile carpet.
  • Verify that the carpet-first sequence works with your room map and scheduled cleaning.
  • Check the exact package for dock bags, filters and replacement rollers.

How does the Roborock Qrevo Edge Series handle carpet?

Roborock describes dedicated carpet settings and a chassis-elevation function for mid-to-high-pile carpet. The company also says those settings must be activated manually in the app, so do not assume the robot will select them automatically. Details are on the Qrevo Edge Series page.

Roborock publishes two additional figures: 18,500 Pa suction and 99.5% hair removal on carpet. They are manufacturer-published results; the page’s test conditions should be read before using them to predict performance in a particular pile, fiber or pet-hair load.

When manual control helps

Manual carpet activation can be useful when your map misclassifies a rug, when a high-pile area is cleaned only occasionally, or when you want to limit high-power operation on delicate flooring. It also adds a setup step: after mapping, open the app’s carpet settings and confirm the feature is enabled for the relevant rooms.

What do the ECOVACS DEEBOT X9 PRO OMNI and T80 OMNI offer?

ECOVACS places both models in its carpet-and-rug robot-vacuum category. The category page states 16,600 Pa suction for the DEEBOT X9 PRO OMNI and 18,000 Pa for the DEEBOT T80 OMNI, and describes carpet recognition for the T80. These are ECOVACS specifications, not cross-brand test results; view the details at ECOVACS’s carpet category.

DEEBOT X9 PRO OMNI

The X9 PRO OMNI is worth considering when you want a model explicitly presented for carpet and rugs and prefer a high stated suction figure. The category listing alone does not tell you how it performs on your pile, how often it repeats a pass or how it handles long hair. Ask the retailer or manufacturer for the exact brush, filter and dock consumables included with your regional variant.

DEEBOT T80 OMNI

Carpet recognition is the key documented feature for the T80 OMNI: the robot is described as identifying carpet rather than relying solely on a user-selected mode. Its listed 18,000 Pa figure should still be treated as a model-specific laboratory or marketing specification, not a universal ranking against the Roborock or iRobot figures.

What about mopping on rugs?

The ECOVACS category page describes mop lifting on some DEEBOT models. That description is not a neutral comparison and does not, by itself, confirm the exact behavior of every X9 PRO OMNI or T80 OMNI variant. Before purchase, verify whether your model lifts or retracts the mop, how high it raises it, and whether you can draw no-mop zones around every rug.

Why consider the iRobot Roomba j9+ for carpet?

iRobot describes the Roomba j9+ as cleaning carpet and hard floors with room prioritization, obstacle recognition, a multi-surface brush system and self-emptying features. Those capabilities target homes where rugs share space with furniture, cables and everyday clutter. The product details are on iRobot’s Roomba j9+ page.

iRobot also claims the j9+ delivers “100% stronger suction than Roomba Combo i Series robots.” That is iRobot’s own comparison for this product, not an independent test and not a claim about suction versus Roborock or ECOVACS models. iRobot’s support documentation explains that suction alone does not determine pickup; brush agitation, debris type, airflow and sealing matter too.

Carpet Boost availability

Carpet Boost is not a feature to assume across every Roomba generation or region. iRobot’s compatibility guidance at its parts and Carpet Boost article should be checked against the exact j9+ model and the country in which you will use it.

Why obstacle recognition matters on rugs

Rug tassels, charging cables and pet toys can interrupt a cleaning run even when suction is adequate. Obstacle recognition and room prioritization can reduce those interruptions, but you should still secure loose cords and flatten curled rug corners before the first mapping run.

How should you match a robot to your carpet?

Low-pile carpet and flat rugs

Most of the documented features should be usable on low-pile surfaces. Prioritize accurate edge navigation, a brush that resists hair wrapping and a repeat-pass option if fine grit is tracked indoors.

Medium- and high-pile carpet

Clearance becomes more important than a headline Pa number. The Qrevo Edge Series is the only candidate here for which the source specifically describes chassis elevation for mid-to-high-pile carpet, and that setting requires manual app activation. Measure the tallest pile and confirm the robot can climb from the adjacent hard floor without spinning its wheels.

Pets and long hair

Look for a roller design that can be removed easily, accessible end caps and a maintenance schedule you will follow. Roborock’s 99.5% hair-removal figure for the Qrevo Edge Series is a manufacturer claim under stated test conditions; it should not be generalized to every breed, fiber or room.

Delicate or hand-knotted rugs

Use lower-power or no-go settings if the manufacturer permits them, and inspect fringe, seams and raised motifs. A robot can damage a loose edge by repeatedly catching it even when the carpet itself is not abrasive.

How do you configure carpet cleaning step by step?

  1. Map the home with floors clear. Remove cords, toys and temporary obstacles so the robot records true rug boundaries.
  2. Label each rug and room in the app. Correct labels are important for carpet-first schedules and no-mop zones.
  3. Enable the model’s carpet feature. CurvX users should review automatic boost, second-pass and carpet-first options. Qrevo Edge owners must manually activate the relevant carpet and chassis-elevation settings.
  4. Set cleaning order. Schedule carpeted rooms before wet cleaning when your robot-mop workflow could otherwise leave a damp rug.
  5. Run a supervised first cycle. Watch transitions, tassels, high-pile areas and furniture gaps. Stop the robot if it drags a rug or repeatedly stalls.
  6. Inspect after the run. Empty the bin, check the filter and remove hair from the roller. A maintenance alert is not a substitute for a visual check after heavy shedding.

How should combination robot vacuums treat rugs while mopping?

Never infer rug safety from a model being sold as an “OMNI” or combo system. Confirm the exact model’s behavior: mop lifting, mop retraction, automatic carpet avoidance or user-drawn no-mop zones. The ECOVACS category page mentions mop lifting on some DEEBOT models, but it is not a model-by-model independent assessment.

  • Create a no-mop zone around rugs whose edges curl or whose backing is not water-safe.
  • Check whether the lifted mop still hangs low enough to touch thick pile.
  • For valuable rugs, run a vacuum-only test and observe the robot before allowing any wet cycle.
  • Keep a dry-vacuum schedule separate from mopping if the robot cannot reliably identify every rug.

Can suction numbers be compared across these models?

No. The figures below come from different manufacturer pages and testing methods, so they indicate what each company publishes, not a league table.

Model Published suction or comparison How to interpret it
Qrevo Edge Series 18,500 Pa; Roborock also states 99.5% hair removal on carpet Manufacturer figures; read the page’s test conditions
DEEBOT T30C 20,000 Pa ECOVACS category-page specification; additional candidate, not independently ranked
DEEBOT T80 OMNI 18,000 Pa ECOVACS category-page specification
DEEBOT X9 PRO OMNI 16,600 Pa ECOVACS category-page specification
Roomba j9+ “100% stronger suction than Roomba Combo i Series robots” iRobot’s internal comparison; not a cross-brand Pa measurement

Because there is no shared independent protocol in the cited material, compare the complete system: brush contact, airflow path, sealing, carpet response, navigation and maintenance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should you verify before ordering?

  • Exact variant and region: Names, included docks and app features can differ by country.
  • Carpet controls: Determine whether boost and repeat passes are automatic, manual or unavailable on the exact model.
  • Pile clearance: Compare the robot’s stated operating limits with your thickest rug and transition strip.
  • Mop protection: Confirm lift height, avoidance behavior and no-mop-zone controls.
  • Brush and hair access: Check how the roller is removed and which replacement parts fit your model.
  • Dock consumables: Verify the correct dust bags, filters and brushes before relying on self-emptying.
  • Navigation testing: Look for independent reviews that test cords, tassels, dark patterns and furniture—not only open laboratory floors.
  • Price, stock and warranty: These were not established by the cited product pages; verify current terms with the manufacturer or an authorized seller.

What is the practical verdict?

For automatic carpet attention, the Qrevo CurvX has the clearest documented combination of boost, repeat passes and carpet-first options. The Qrevo Edge Series is the more explicitly configurable choice for mid-to-high pile, provided you are willing to activate its settings manually. The DEEBOT X9 PRO OMNI and T80 OMNI offer prominent manufacturer suction specifications, with the T80 adding documented carpet recognition. The Roomba j9+ emphasizes obstacle handling, room prioritization, multi-surface brushes and self-emptying rather than a cross-brand Pa number.

None can be named the objective “best” without comparable independent tests. Use the feature match, pile height, rug value, pet-hair load and wet-cleaning requirements in your home to narrow the shortlist, then verify current availability, warranty and exact replacement parts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are robot vacuums good for carpets?

They can maintain carpets effectively when the brush, airflow, navigation and cleaning mode suit the pile. Deep embedded soil still may require an occasional manual vacuum, especially on dense or shag carpet.

Will a robot vacuum get stuck on carpet edges?

It can, particularly when a rug corner curls, has a tall bound edge or meets a sharp transition strip. Flatten edges, secure loose corners and supervise the first mapping run before leaving the robot unattended.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How often should I run my robot vacuum on carpets?

Set frequency according to traffic and shedding: high-traffic entries and pet areas generally need more frequent runs than guest rooms. Empty the bin and inspect the roller whenever hair or fine grit noticeably accumulates rather than waiting for a fixed calendar interval.

Do robot vacuums go over rugs?

Most are designed to cross ordinary rugs, but performance depends on pile height, backing, fringe and the height difference at the edge. Test valuable or lightweight rugs in vacuum-only mode and use a no-go zone if the robot moves them.

Do robot cleaners damage carpets?

Damage is uncommon on well-secured, machine-safe carpet, but repeated snagging can affect fringe, loose seams or delicate fibers. Stop the robot if you see pulling, use gentler settings where available and keep wet mopping away from rugs that are not water-safe.
