There is no one-for-one replacement for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. Ubisoft’s remake launched on July 9, 2026 as a solo Edward Kenway adventure that combines ship combat with stealth and fighting on land. Choose Sea of Thieves if you want a crew, Skull and Bones if ships and builds matter most, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii for flamboyant action, Windrose for survival crafting, Sid Meier’s Pirates! for a classic Caribbean sandbox, or The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition for pirate humor and puzzles.
Those recommendations involve deliberate trade-offs. Resynced has no multiplayer, while the strongest online alternatives require an internet connection; none reproduces its exact blend of authored single-player missions, naval battles and on-foot Assassin play.

What does Black Flag Resynced actually give you?
Resynced is a released remake, not an announced future project. Ubisoft lists July 9, 2026 as its launch date and presents it as the return of Edward Kenway’s story: sailing, boarding, naval combat, stealth and melee exploration in one solo campaign.
That combination explains why comparisons can mislead. A game may match the ocean, the pirate fantasy or the historical setting while dropping the land-based Assassin systems. Another may offer a more sophisticated ship-building loop but no authored on-foot adventure. The right substitute depends on which activity you miss most.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Multiplayer is the clearest dividing line. Ubisoft’s official FAQ states: “Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced does not include a multiplayer mode.” The main campaign can be played offline after its initial connection, although online Animus Hub content still requires a connection. By contrast, Sea of Thieves and the cooperative modes in Skull and Bones are online experiences.
Ubisoft has also reported that the remake sold more than 3 million copies in its first week, including 2 million on day one. Those are publisher-reported launch figures, useful as context for the game’s reach but not evidence that any alternative below is better.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Is Sea of Thieves the best choice for a crew?
Yes, if the part you want is sharing a ship, planning voyages and meeting other crews. It is the most direct recommendation for social pirate play, but it is not an offline replacement for Resynced.
What it shares with Resynced
You sail a working ship, travel between islands and treat the vessel as the center of your adventure. The shared pirate fantasy is stronger here than in most alternatives because the crew itself is part of the play: roles, navigation and encounters emerge from cooperation rather than a fixed solo script.
Where it departs
Steam identifies online co-op, online PvP and cross-platform multiplayer. There is no standalone offline campaign equivalent to Edward’s story. Rare’s PlayStation 5 FAQ describes Safer Seas as a lower-pressure option that permits most content, including story-driven Tall Tales, while excluding some PvP-oriented and other activities. Safer Seas still requires the online game; it is not an offline mode.
Who should choose it?
- Choose it when your priority is a regular crew and emergent voyages.
- Choose Safer Seas when you want story activities with fewer player-versus-player interruptions, while accepting its content limits.
- Skip it if you need a completely offline campaign, stealth missions or a solo hero with a defined ending.
The “2026 Edition” label describes a revised offering, not the game’s original debut. Check the current platform listing for the edition available in your region before buying.
Is Skull and Bones better for ship-first players?
It is the clearest pick when cannons, ship loadouts and captain progression matter more than walking around towns. Ubisoft describes it as a naval action RPG built around ship combat and build choice, playable alone or cooperatively.
What it shares with Resynced
Both games make sailing and naval engagements central rather than decorative. You captain a vessel, choose how to approach encounters and spend time improving your effectiveness at sea.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Where it departs
Skull and Bones is ship-first. Its solo option does not turn it into an authored single-player Assassin campaign, and the available descriptions do not establish an equivalent on-foot stealth-and-fighting loop. Expect your decisions to revolve around ships and their builds instead of Edward’s movement, infiltration and melee toolkit.
Who should choose it?
- Pick it for naval encounters and equipment decisions you can pursue either solo or with friends.
- Pick another game if boarding, swordplay and stealth away from the helm are essential.
- Treat the cooperative option as a way to share naval activity, not as proof that it offers Resynced’s campaign structure.
Does Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii deliver a different kind of pirate action?
Yes. It is the recommendation for players who want a loud, character-led pirate fantasy rather than a historical Caribbean simulation.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →What the adventure is about
The contemporary story follows Goro Majima as he forms a crew, takes a ship into Pacific waters, upgrades that vessel and fights rivals. The pirate framework supports the series’ characteristic humor and action, so the tone is intentionally flamboyant.
What it shares with Resynced
You get a named protagonist, a crew, a ship that can be improved and rival encounters at sea. That gives it a stronger authored-action feel than a pure sailing sandbox.
Where it departs
The setting and mood are modern and heightened, not a grounded Caribbean period adventure. Its appeal is spectacle and personality, not reproducing Edward Kenway’s historical context or Assassin stealth systems. Exact platform and edition availability can change, so verify the current publisher storefront before purchase.
Choose it when “pirate game” means a memorable cast, dramatic set pieces and comic excess. Do not choose it expecting a realistic naval simulator or a direct remake companion.
Is Windrose the right alternative for survival and crafting?
Windrose fits players who want to build a life around the sea rather than follow a finished, linear pirate campaign. The game is described as an early-access PC survival adventure combining ship combat, exploration, crafting, settlement building and optional online co-op.
What it shares with Resynced
Exploration and ship handling remain important, and the ocean is a space you actively work in rather than a backdrop between missions. Optional co-op lets you share that process with other players.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Where it departs
Early access means the feature set, balance and campaign scope are time-sensitive. The available description does not establish a completed story equivalent to Resynced, and it does not establish a console release. Survival needs, resource gathering and settlement decisions replace the remake’s focus on authored stealth and melee sequences.
Who should choose it?
- Choose it if gathering materials, crafting equipment and developing a settlement sound more appealing than replaying a fixed story.
- Choose it only if you are comfortable with an unfinished, changing early-access product.
- Do not buy it on the assumption that a console version or a finished campaign exists; confirm the current PC listing first.
Why still play Sid Meier’s Pirates! after a modern remake?
Because its strength is freedom, not modern presentation. This older Caribbean sandbox lets you sail, find treasure, fight naval encounters and decide whom to serve or raid.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What it shares with Resynced
The setting’s broad pirate fantasy is familiar: a captain, a ship, rival powers and opportunities that arise while moving around the Caribbean. It gives you room to define your goals rather than following only one hero’s path.
Where it departs
It is deliberately classic. Do not expect the remake’s visual detail, cinematic mission staging, stealth systems or contemporary combat feel. Its appeal is the combination of open-ended choices and a compact historical-pirate framework.
Who should choose it?
Pick it when you want to decide which faction to support, whom to raid and how to pursue treasure. Recheck current store compatibility before buying: the game is older, and modern operating-system or storefront support can vary by edition.
Is The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition a pirate game without naval combat?
It is a pirate adventure in theme and writing, not in ship handling. Choose it for comedy, characters and puzzle solving rather than cannons or open-water progression.

What it shares with Resynced
You remain in a recognizably pirate world with memorable characters and a strong sense of place. The Special Edition’s updated presentation makes the classic easier to approach on a modern display than its original release.
Where it departs
The core activity is solving puzzles and advancing a comic adventure. It does not provide naval combat, ship upgrades or an open Caribbean sandbox, and it should not be confused with the separate Return to Monkey Island.

Who should choose it?
Choose it when the phrase “pirate adventure” makes you think of jokes, dialogue and inventive puzzles. If your non-negotiable is sailing, select one of the naval-focused games instead. The cited comparison identifies the PC Special Edition; confirm the edition and compatibility on the current store page.
Which game matches the part of Black Flag you miss?
Use the activity you want to recover as your filter. No pick covers every system in Resynced, so deciding what you are willing to lose is more useful than searching for a universal winner.
| If you miss… | Start with… | Accept this trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| A crew and shared voyages | Sea of Thieves | Online-only structure and limits in Safer Seas |
| Naval combat and loadouts | Skull and Bones | Little evidence of an equivalent on-foot Assassin campaign |
| A named hero and theatrical action | Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii | Modern, comic tone instead of historical Caribbean realism |
| Resource gathering and building | Windrose | Early-access status and PC-only availability in the described listing |
| Free-form Caribbean choices | Sid Meier’s Pirates! | Older presentation and systems |
| Pirate humor and puzzles | The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition | No naval combat or ship-management loop |
Can you play these alternatives offline?
Only Resynced’s main campaign is explicitly described as playable offline after its initial connection. Sea of Thieves is an online game even when you select Safer Seas, and its cooperative design depends on a connection.
Skull and Bones is described as playable solo or cooperatively, but the available material does not establish an offline mode; check its current requirements before assuming solo means disconnected play. Windrose’s optional online co-op suggests a solo path, yet its early-access listing should be consulted for present connectivity requirements. The classic recommendations are the safer starting point when your priority is a self-contained, single-player experience, subject to current storefront compatibility.
What can you buy alongside or instead of the game?
Ubisoft confirms a physical-copy option for the Resynced Standard Edition, so a disc buyer can search for the “Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced PS5 physical edition” listing and verify the platform, region and stock at checkout. That is the reference game itself, not one of the alternatives above.
The limited Collector’s Edition includes console discs, an Edward Kenway figurine, a logbook, brooch, SteelBook, cloth map and shanty sheet. Ubisoft’s official page currently marks it SOLD OUT; an Amazon listing among the named retailers does not prove that stock is available now.

Pick Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii for a character-driven spectacle, Windrose for survival systems, Sid Meier’s Pirates! for classic freedom, and The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition for comic puzzle solving. Resynced remains the only title in this group that combines Edward’s authored solo story, naval battles and on-foot Assassin play in one package.
Frequently asked questions
