If you want a customizable wireless alternative to Nintendo’s Switch 2 Pro Controller, start with the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller—but update its firmware and accept that its manual does not list NFC or HD rumble support. Choose the PowerA Advantage Wireless for a licensed Switch 2 controller with Hall-effect sticks, motion controls, a C Button and two mappable buttons. Choose the PowerA Advantage Wired when a cable, headset jack and rear buttons matter more than wireless play. The EasySMX S10 is the feature-heavy option whose NFC and wake functions are manufacturer claims, while the 8BitDo Pro 3 Bluetooth offers TMR sticks but has conflicting wake information. An original Nintendo Switch Pro Controller you already own can also pair with Switch 2, so replacing it is not automatically necessary.

What does the official Switch 2 Pro Controller provide?

The official controller is the reference point for feature comparisons, not the only workable choice. Nintendo lists HD rumble 2, motion controls, built-in amiibo support, a C Button, freely mapped GL and GR buttons, and a 3.5 mm headset jack for the Switch 2 Pro Controller. Nintendo describes that new controller as Only for use with the Nintendo Switch 2 system on its official accessories page.

Third-party compatibility does not mean feature parity. A controller can connect and play games while lacking NFC for amiibo, the console’s newer rumble system, headset audio, motion sensing or a particular wake method. Check each function separately rather than treating a Switch 2 compatibility badge as proof that every official feature is present.

Which Switch 2 controller should you choose?

Match the controller to the feature you actually use most. The following decision points avoid buying a pad for a feature it does not include.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Want back buttons, a dock and TMR sticks? Choose the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth, after its firmware update.
  • Want a licensed wireless model with motion and a native C Button? Choose the PowerA Advantage Wireless, while accepting the lack of HD rumble and amiibo NFC.
  • Want a wired controller with a headset jack? Choose the PowerA Advantage Wired and use its dock connection as intended.
  • Want NFC and wake listed by the manufacturer? Consider the EasySMX S10, but treat those as manufacturer claims rather than independently measured results.
  • Want a different stick layout? The 8BitDo Pro 3 Bluetooth has TMR sticks, but its wake documentation is contradictory.
  • Already own the first-generation Nintendo Switch Pro Controller? Pair it with Switch 2 before spending money on another full-size controller.

How do the alternatives differ feature by feature?

This matrix separates connection, controls and missing functions. “Not stated” means the cited product information does not establish that feature; it is not a claim that the feature is impossible.

Is the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth the best customizable wireless option?

Yes, it is the strongest all-round alternative when programmable controls, TMR sticks and a charging dock matter more than NFC or HD rumble. The exact name is important: this recommendation is for the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller, not the similarly named Ultimate 2 Wireless.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What you get

8BitDo lists TMR sticks, motion controls, extra buttons and a charging dock, making this the most complete customization-oriented choice in this comparison. TMR describes the stick-sensing technology; it does not guarantee that drift can never occur or establish a particular lifetime.

What you must do before relying on it

Update the controller firmware. The product information specifies Nintendo Switch 2 system version 20.1.1 or above, so verify the console is on a compatible system version as well. 8BitDo’s support log identifies version 2.01 as improving Switch 2 wake stability; that is a manufacturer firmware note, not an independent wake test.

What is missing

The manual does not list NFC or HD rumble support. That means it should not be selected by someone who expects to scan amiibo or reproduce the Switch 2 Pro Controller’s HD rumble 2 behavior. The manual also does not establish a C Button implementation or a headset jack, so confirm those requirements before ordering.

After applying those firmware and feature caveats, the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth product page is the appropriate model reference for shopping and support. Do not substitute details from another Ultimate 2 variant.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is the PowerA Advantage Wireless the best licensed wireless alternative?

It is the clearest choice for a licensed Switch 2-specific wireless controller with motion controls, a C Button and two mappable buttons. Its trade-off is deliberate: the manual excludes both HD rumble 2 and HD rumble, as well as amiibo NFC.

Controls and compatibility

Hall-effect sticks are the listed stick technology, while motion controls preserve games that rely on tilt or aiming gestures. The two mappable buttons add customization without requiring the larger rear-button arrangement described for some other controllers. PowerA positions the controller specifically for Nintendo Switch 2 rather than as a generic multi-platform pad.

Rumble, NFC and wake limitations

PowerA’s manual states: This controller does not support HD rumble 2, HD rumble, IR camera, or amiibo™ NFC. Those exclusions matter for games that use Nintendo’s newer tactile effects or amiibo scanning. The initial pairing procedure starts by waking the console with the console’s power button, so the instructions do not establish that pressing HOME on a sleeping Switch 2 will wake it.

Battery claim

PowerA lists up to 30 hours of battery life. That is a manufacturer estimate, and the listing notes that variables affect the figure; it is not a measured runtime for every player or game.

Use the PowerA Advantage Wireless listing to verify the current package and compatibility details before purchase.

When is the PowerA Advantage Wired the better choice?

Choose the Advantage Wired when the controller will normally stay connected to the dock and you want a headset jack without paying for wireless hardware. It includes a 3 m (10 ft) USB-A–USB-C cable, a C Button and rear buttons, but it deliberately omits motion controls, rumble and amiibo NFC.

Docked setup

The standard setup runs the included cable from a Switch 2 dock USB port to the controller. The 3 m length suits a sofa or desk arrangement, but it remains a wired connection with no wireless wake behavior.

Handheld connection caveat

The manual also describes direct connection to the console with a separately supplied, suitably specified USB-C–USB-C cable. The included USB-A–USB-C cable is intended for the dock setup, so do not assume it can connect directly to a handheld Switch 2 without an additional cable or appropriate adapter.

Audio and missing sensors

A 3.5 mm headset jack is the model’s standout convenience for docked multiplayer. The absence of motion, rumble and NFC makes it a poor match for motion-heavy games, tactile feedback or amiibo use. The PowerA Advantage Wired information should be checked for the current cable and package description.

Is the EasySMX S10 worth choosing for NFC and wake features?

The S10 is worth considering when the manufacturer-listed feature set is your priority, especially NFC, motion controls, TMR sticks, back buttons and wake support. Those wake and NFC statements come from EasySMX; they are not independent measurements, and the product’s rumble wording is narrower than Nintendo’s.

How its specifications should be read

EasySMX describes the S10’s C Button as a macro configuration rather than presenting it as the same native behavior as Nintendo’s C Button. The listing also describes HD rumble at Switch 1 level, while Nintendo’s official controller uses the term HD rumble 2. Treat those as different feature descriptions, not interchangeable labels.

The manufacturer lists 1000 Hz polling in wired mode and 125 Hz over Bluetooth. These are specification-sheet figures, not independently measured Switch 2 latency results. No conclusion about response time, long-term durability or battery life follows from those numbers alone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What to do if wake fails

EasySMX provides firmware-update instructions for wake problems. Follow the current update procedure supplied with the controller rather than assuming a new console setting will fix it. If wake reliability is essential, buy only after accepting that the available evidence is a manufacturer claim.

Should you buy the 8BitDo Pro 3 Bluetooth for Switch 2?

Buy it only if its TMR sticks and alternative stick layout fit your hands and you can live without a firm wake guarantee. The model is not interchangeable with the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth: the cited information does not establish that it has the Ultimate 2’s dock, extra-button arrangement or other specifications.

The wake-documentation conflict

8BitDo’s firmware log describes Switch 2 shake-to-wake support and a later wake-stability improvement. However, an undated Pro 3 FAQ says Switch 2 wake is unsupported. Because those statements conflict, do not give the Pro 3 an unconditional wake recommendation. Check the current FAQ, firmware notes and package documentation immediately before buying.

What is established

The FAQ identifies TMR sticks. Other features—including NFC, rumble type, audio and rear-button mapping—are not established by the cited material for this model. That uncertainty is why the Pro 3 belongs behind the better-documented choices for most Switch 2 buyers.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can you reuse an original Nintendo Switch Pro Controller?

Yes. Nintendo says an existing first-generation Switch Pro Controller can pair wirelessly with Switch 2 and charge through the Switch 2 dock, so owners do not automatically need a new full-size controller. The compatibility guidance is documented by Nintendo Support.

This is a reuse option rather than proof that the older controller duplicates every Switch 2 Pro feature. The cited compatibility note establishes pairing and dock charging, not a complete feature-by-feature parity list. If you want to hold existing Joy-Con 2 controllers as a conventional pad, Nintendo’s Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip is another accessory option; it does not include Joy-Con 2 controllers.

What about the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C Bluetooth?

Keep the Ultimate 2C separate from the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth. 8BitDo’s firmware log lists a Switch 2 support update for the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth, but the cited information does not establish the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth’s TMR sticks, dock, motion controls or extra-button package for the 2C. Verify every specification by exact model before treating it as an equivalent alternative.

How should you compare C Button, NFC, motion and rumble?

Use a feature-by-feature checklist because these functions are often conflated in store listings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • C Button: Confirm whether it is a native Switch 2 control or a macro assignment. PowerA Advantage Wireless advertises a C Button; EasySMX describes its S10 C Button as a macro configuration.
  • NFC: This is the function needed for amiibo scanning. The PowerA Advantage Wireless manual excludes amiibo NFC, and the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth manual does not support NFC. EasySMX lists NFC as a manufacturer feature.
  • Motion: The Ultimate 2 Bluetooth, PowerA Advantage Wireless and EasySMX S10 list motion controls. The PowerA Advantage Wired explicitly omits them.
  • Rumble: Nintendo’s official baseline is HD rumble 2. PowerA Advantage Wireless excludes HD rumble and HD rumble 2; EasySMX uses “Switch 1-level” HD rumble wording; the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth manual does not list HD rumble support.
  • Headset audio: The PowerA Advantage Wired has a 3.5 mm jack. Audio support is not established in the cited material for the other alternatives.
  • Rear-button mapping: PowerA Advantage Wireless has two mappable buttons, PowerA Advantage Wired has rear buttons, and EasySMX lists back buttons. The Ultimate 2 Bluetooth lists extra buttons without a count in the cited material.

What should you check before ordering?

  1. Read the exact model name. Distinguish Ultimate 2 Bluetooth from Ultimate 2 Wireless, Ultimate 2C Bluetooth and Pro 3 Bluetooth. Similar names do not establish identical controls or compatibility.
  2. Check the Switch 2 system version. The Ultimate 2 Bluetooth product information specifies version 20.1.1 or above.
  3. Decide whether NFC and HD rumble are essential. If they are, remove models whose manuals exclude them instead of assuming a compatibility badge includes them.
  4. Choose docked or undocked use. The Advantage Wired is designed around dock USB; direct handheld use needs a separately supplied, suitably specified USB-C–USB-C cable.
  5. Verify wake behavior. Follow each model’s pairing instructions. PowerA Wireless starts with the console power button, Ultimate 2 wake depends on firmware notes, EasySMX supplies update guidance, and Pro 3 documentation conflicts.
  6. Recheck live retail and firmware details. Manufacturer pages and support logs can change, and a current package may differ from an older listing.

How we picked these alternatives

The selection prioritizes documented Switch 2 compatibility, exact model identification and meaningful differences in controls. It separates wireless, wired and reuse scenarios; records firmware requirements and wake evidence; and treats NFC, motion, rumble, audio and rear-button mapping as independent criteria. Manufacturer specifications are labeled as such, and no ranking is based on unverified input-lag, comfort, battery-endurance, drift-resistance or durability testing.

What are the common setup problems?

The controller connects but will not wake the console

First update firmware where the manufacturer provides an update path. For the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth, confirm the controller firmware and Switch 2 system version; for the S10, use its supplied firmware-update instructions. For the PowerA Advantage Wireless, perform the initial pairing by waking the console with the console’s power button, as described in its manual.

The wired controller does not work in handheld mode

Confirm that the cable is connected to the dock for the standard Advantage Wired setup. Direct console connection requires a separately supplied, suitably specified USB-C–USB-C cable; the included USB-A–USB-C cable is not the same arrangement.

A game does not respond to motion, rumble or amiibo

Check the model’s exclusions rather than changing game settings repeatedly. Advantage Wired has no motion or rumble, Advantage Wireless has no HD rumble or amiibo NFC, and Ultimate 2 Bluetooth’s manual does not list NFC or HD rumble. A connected controller can therefore be functioning normally while lacking the feature a game requests.

Bottom line: which alternative should you buy?

For most buyers, choose the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth after updating firmware if customizable wireless controls and a dock are the priority. Choose PowerA Advantage Wireless for licensed wireless play with motion, Hall-effect sticks and a C Button; choose PowerA Advantage Wired for docked play with a headset jack. Choose EasySMX S10 only with its manufacturer-claimed NFC, wake and polling figures clearly understood, and approach the 8BitDo Pro 3 Bluetooth cautiously because its wake documentation conflicts. If you already own the original Switch Pro Controller, pair it first before buying another controller.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will Hall-effect or TMR sticks prevent drift forever?

No. Hall-effect and TMR describe the sensing method listed by the manufacturer, not a lifetime guarantee. The available specifications do not establish a comparative failure rate or prove that any of these controllers can never drift.

Can every third-party Switch 2 controller wake the console from sleep?

No. Wake behavior is model- and firmware-specific. Some manuals require initial pairing with the console’s power button, some products provide update instructions, and the Pro 3 documentation contains conflicting wake statements.

Does Switch 2 support amiibo through any compatible controller?

Only a controller with the required NFC hardware and software support can scan amiibo. A controller can be fully playable on Switch 2 while omitting NFC, as the PowerA Advantage Wireless manual and Ultimate 2 Bluetooth manual indicate.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I use the included cable from a wired controller directly with the handheld console?

Not necessarily. The Advantage Wired’s included cable is USB-A–USB-C for dock use; direct handheld connection requires a separately supplied, suitably specified USB-C–USB-C cable.

What does “Switch 1-level HD rumble” mean on the EasySMX S10?

It is the manufacturer’s description of the S10’s rumble behavior and is not the same wording as Nintendo’s HD rumble 2 specification. Treat it as a separate feature level rather than evidence of official Pro Controller parity.
